    Description: Das niedersächsische Nordhorn war historisch lange eine Hochburg der Kommunistischen Partei Deutschlands (KPD) sowie später der Deutschen Kommunistischen Partei (DKP), bis in die 1990er-Jahre hinein konnten sie hier lokalpolitische Ämter erringen. Von welchen Kontextbedingungen hing der lokale Erfolg der Nordhorner DKP ab? Wie fügte sich die Partei historisch in die Protestgeschichte ein und welches sind die zentralen Charakteristika der örtlichen gegenkulturellen Szene? Diesen Fragen geht die vorliegende FoDEx-Studie nach. Sie skizziert die zentralen Charakteristika und langfristigen Entwicklungstendenzen der linksradikalen bzw. linken Szene vor Ort und setzt diese in Bezug zum stadtpolitischen Erbe der Textilindustrie Nordhorns und der andauernden materialistischen Konfliktlinie. In einer mehrschrittigen Analyse werden wichtige Resonanz- und Verständigungsräume ebenso beleuchtet wie das individuelle Akteurshandeln vor Ort.

    Description: This study treats ecotourism in National Protected Areas of Lao PDR as a “recreational frontier” which instrumentalizes the recreation of human natures in capitalism’s centers for that of nonhuman natures at capitalism’s (closing) frontiers. This world-ecological practice of ecorational instrumentality – i.e. of nature domination in the name of “Nature” – presents a remedy for capitalism’s crisis that is itself crisis-ridden, enacting a central tension of ecocapitalism: that between “conservation” and “development”. This epistemic-institutional tension is traced through the preconditions, modes and effects of ecotourism in Laos by gradually zooming from the most general scale of societal nature relations into the most detailed intricacies of ecotouristic practice. The combination of Bourdieu, Marx and Critical Theory enables a systematic analysis of the recreational frontier as enactment of various contradictions deriving from the “false-and-real” Nature/Society dualism.

    Description: Este libro resulta de una inquietud compartida por once colegas activos en ocho países, a ambos lados del Atlántico:mostrar la interconexión múltiple de diversos tópicos de la relación América Latina – el Caribe – Europa en una obra editorial de divulgación internacional.El comercio, la ciencia y la técnica posibilitan esta interconexión. De hecho, este conjunto de artículos atinge lo que Horst Pietschmann designacomo «un amplio proyecto, subdividido en distintos proyectos parciales» cuando analiza la historia atlántica. Entre las fuentes que respaldan la amplia temática presentada aparecen analizados documentos de archivo, epistolarios, hemerografía y bibliografía junto a memorias, pinturas, fotografías, genealogías, obras civiles, postales y lápidas de cementerios. El legado de artistas, científicos, comerciantes, diplomáticos, historiadores, viajeros y familias, ha posibilitado esta compilación que, remontando desde finales del siglo XVIII hasta comienzos del siglo XX, ofrece aquí, en simultáneo, tanto la conceptualización del mundo atlántico, la visión civilizadora del desarrollo social y de los efectos económicos de la emancipación americana, como la visión artística de la Ilustración sobre la exótica producción tropical, la dilatada representación del paisaje latinoamericano y los intereses de la expansión europea exhibidos en exposiciones universales. Además, este legado facilitó una relectura de los proyectos globales y agendas personales, familiares y políticas, existentes detrás de expediciones, estudios científicos y empresas mercantiles que fomentaron la transferencia de conocimientos y técnicas, el turismo, la diplomacia y los negocios entre América Latina, el Caribe y Europa.     Description: The production of Giordano da Pisa (1260-1310) offers an excellent example for assessing the relationship between a Dominican preacher and his lay audience. His preaching presents simultaneously all the features that make it possible to regard it as a document of how the preacher and the public may have influenced each other. This paper illustrates how the friar proposes a social model and individual behaviours in the relationship between the ideal world and reality.

    Description: The liberal professions are subject to an ever changing legal basis and thus constantly undergo minor or major amendments. A fundamental innovation in the current law governing the liberal professions of tax consultants is the authorization to work as in-house tax consultants. Since 2008, the Tax Consultancy Act has made possible to pursue the profession of in-house tax advisor, while lawyers were allowed to work in-house for decades already, with the last amendment of the legal regulations from 2016. This paper deals with the various legal and practical implications of the interactions between the freelance activity as a tax consultant and the activity of in-house tax consultants in an employment relationship. A detailed comparison of the legal basis for tax consultants with that of in-house lawyers is of special interest in light of the current ambiguous legal situation. Special focus is a thorough analysis of the legal question whether or not an in-house tax adviser can be exempted from the obligatory pension insurance.

    Description: The increased detection of doping in professional sports has led to a strengthening of the discussion on the legal aspects of doping. So far criminal and/ or verbandsrechtliche questions were the focus. For example the question of whether and how sponsorship contracts may be terminated in cases of misconduct of the sponsored. First, it examines how appropriate cancellation clauses could be like. Second, consider the conditions under which, even without explicit rules for doping a termination in accordance with general principles of contract law is concerned. It also discusses the legal consequences of termination, and in particular its relationship to other contractual consequences of doping, such as claims for damages or penalties.

    Description: What was the impact of the armies of the King of Spain on one of the territories of its composite monarchy during the centuries of the early modern age? What changes took place in the relations of power between the local institutions and the Madrid headquarters, between the Lombard corps and the city of Milan, between the representatives of the territorial corps and the power élites, as a consequence of the grievous burden represented by the military costs necessary for running the war? These are some of the questions that the author attempts to answer through study of the phenomenon of the military garrisons, an exceptional vantage point for observing the fine line that, in the ancient regime, divided the "military" and "civilian" worlds, which were not yet separated by the high walls and barbed wire of modern barracks.

    Description: Peripheries are processes and places in which conditions and actors constantly shift. The contingent forms of peripheries in this book are assembled around embodied identities and are rooted in specific genealogies: peripheries as urban fringes, periphery countries in the modern world-system theory, and peripheral urbanization. Through these genealogies, the heterogeneous forms of peripheries acquire layered meanings that decenter urban theory. Since no form can exist outside historical relations of power, it is critical to apply methodological approaches that can address the political agency emerging from embodied identities.
