Description: In this work we try to make an approach to the shared history between two brothers countries and not always friends such as Portugal and Spain and the atlantic projection that has presided over much of its historical evolution and is also an essential part of its contemporary foreign policy. A dialogue that also acquires different nuances, since the same concept of atlanticity has different connotations for Spain and Portugal. From these various perspectives, Spain and Portugal continue to have an important mission in the challenges in today's world as interlocutors and transmission belts between different global spaces. This historical evolution and the new challenges of the atlantic world are intended to be addressed in the texts of the authors presented to them in this dossier and that address very diverse historical periods from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. Facing the most diverse possible perspectives, whether political, geostrategic, economic, social and cultural.

Description: Public sector accounting (PSA) and reporting was subject to considerable national reforms during the last decades and is in the focus of the European Commission aiming to harmonize the accounting systems of its Member States by developing European Public Sector Accounting Standards (EPSAS). Therefore, the topic is of high relevance for both academia and practitioners. This book provides different views about PSA in Europe as of today. It spans topics such as history of PSA, its differences to private sector accounting and finance statistics, as well as budgeting. A main part is devoted to International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) by addressing their spread, conceptual framework and selected public sector specific standards, including a case study. Also, consolidated financial reporting is covered by drawing examples. This textbook is not only of use for students and researchers, but interested readers that seek for broad perspectives on PSA such as practitioners and members of intergovernmental organisations. It intends to complement university teaching modules on PSA as those accessible for free under www.offene.uni-rostock.de/online-course-european-public-sector-accounting.

Description: Throughout History, networks of scientists and knowledge exchange have been formed, and scientific mobility has been promoted both at the level of the academy and at political level. In the 1940s the “Europe of mobility” began to be drawn through, among other things, the creation of centers of critical reflection, involving not only academics but also intellectuals and politicians, who would contribute to the design of a “Europe of Education” and, in a broad sense, of a Europe of Knowledge. In this context, this collective volume gathers original contributions that focus on education and citizenship; History books; the ERASMUS program, both the academic and the military; the European credit transfer system; memory and heritage.

Description: This volume provides an interdisciplinary, multifaceted view of a key period of the making and remaking of the European artistic, cultural and political landscape at the turn from the eighteenth to the nineteenth century. It focus on the relationships between Lisbon and Turin as a prime analyzer of the main forms of sociability and circulation of objects, knowledge, tastes, styles of government and public policies upon which a new European geopolitical panorama was erected, extending as well to the overseas territories. The variety of approaches deployed in the volume are unified by a broad notion of cultural history which includes on an equal footing the visual and the scientific, the material and the political culture. The studies in this volume underline the crucial importance of the transfer of tastes and habitus, and the associated emergence of new forms of sensibility, in shaping the transition from Enlightenment to the Post-Napoleonic Europe.

Description: The book "Interdisciplinary visions of Europe and the World", is a tribute to Maria Manuela Tavares Ribeiro. This timely tribute is the just recognition of her work and her intellectual and human dimension. This work represents a sample, on the one hand, of the diversity within the Europeanism, Atlanticity and Globalization Group, and on the other, of how it is possible to establish interdisciplinary bridges between the many scientific areas represented in the research group. To embark on an interdisciplinary adventure is to depart from our comfort zone. It is an adventure, because the path can be winding, the difficulties are often greater than were expected, and the result is normaly unpredictable. It generates discomfort, because the practice of interdisciplinarity obliges us to understand different languages, to explain several times what seems obvious, to consensualize concepts, to negotiate methods, to compromise in principles that were considered, from the point of view of each science, unquestionable.

Description: The EURO-HEALTHY project (Shaping EUROpean policies to promote HEALTH equitY) is a three-year Horizon 2020 research project launched in January 2015 aiming to advance knowledge of policies that have the highest potential to enhance health and health equity across European regions with particular focus on urban areas. Within the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, the call “Foresight for health policy development and regulation” underpinned the need for more meaningful information, particularly on the regional health inequalities within the EU. Consequently, EURO-HEALTHY developed a comprehensive and structured framework of analysis, integrating and quantifying key factors impacting population health and health inequalities, taking the EU’s diversity into account and foreseeing the impact of policies. Following a socio-technical approach, the sound methods were built through highly participatory processes involving a large group of multidisciplinary experts and key stakeholders at different geographical levels. The methods were applied to analyse health and identify geographical health inequalities in 269 NUTS 2 regions, ten selected metropolitan areas and two city case studies. In this publication, we present some of the main findings, conclusions and recommendations of the EURO-HEALTHY project. The booklet consists of: I) Profiles of each Work Package summarizing their work and II) Fact sheets that present an overview of evidence on thematic areas going from the relationship between health status and a wide range of determinants, to specific methodological aspects including the evaluation of health and of policies with potential to promote health and health equity. Our desire is that the evidence shared in this informative booklet would be a starting point for policymakers and concerned stakeholders to enhance their understanding on what are the drivers of health inequalities in Europe and, thus be a trigger to an extended dialogue on what are the policies having the highest benefit in promoting more equitable and healthy environments at different levels (European, regional and local).
