    Current Electoral Processes in Southeast Asia. Regional Learnings (2023)

    Description: While Southeast Asia is completing a strong geopolitical sequence and the region remains a strategic area in the relations of influence in the Indo-Pacific, several countries are also focused on electoral agendas and the domestic political dynamics they impel. The Philippines saw a presidential election (May 2022) for which an assessment has yet to be made, while the general elections in Malaysia (November 2022) and the presidential one in Timor-Leste (April 2022), followed by the legislative elections in May 2023, open up new dynamics that have yet to be consolidated. The elections showed important contrasts between countries. The results of the polls in 2023 did not lead to political renewal, but in Thailand (legislative elections, 14 May) the electoral process was marked by uncertainty, while in Cambodia (legislative elections, 23 July) it wasn’t much surprise. In Indonesia (general elections in February 2024), the campaign is still open, and the results could lead to very different directions. This book, Current Electoral Processes in Southeast Asia - Regional Learnings, provides an opportunity for experts from six countries to decipher the issues and consequences of these elections (including the future ones). Moreover, based on a regional perspective, it tries to draw comparisons, parallels and contrasts, and to identify broad regional trends in the functioning of electoral systems and the political institutions on which they are based. Current Electoral Processes in Southeast Asia - Regional Learnings follows on from a seminar organised by IRASEC and Heinrich Böll Stiftung-Southeast Asia Regional Office, hosted by the Faculty of Political Science of Chulalongkorn University and with the support of the King Prajadhipok’s Institute, who provided a simultaneous translation in Thai language.

Cette collection permet de suivre au fil des ans l’évolution des grands enjeux contemporains de cette région continentale et archipélagique de plus de 680 millions d’habitants, et d’en comprendre les dynamiques d’intégration régionale et de connectivités avec le reste du monde. L’Asie du Sud-Est 2023 propose une analyse synthétique et détaillée des principaux événements politiques et diplomatiques, ainsi que des évolutions économiques, sociales et environnementales de l’année 2022 dans chacun des onze pays de la région. Ce décryptage est complété pour chaque pays par un focus sur deux personnalités de l’année et une actualité marquante en image. L’ouvrage propose également cinq dossiers thématiques qui abordent des sujets traités à l’échelle régionale sud-est asiatique : les ressorts institutionnels de l’approche de santé intégrée One Health, le vieillissement de la population et sa prise en compte par les politiques publiques, les câbles sous-marins au cœur de la connectivité sud-est asiatique, l’aménagement du bassin du Mékong et ses multiples acteurs, et les enjeux politiques et linguistiques des langues transnationales.     Description: Fritz Bauer ist als der Staatsanwalt in die Geschichte der Bundesrepublik eingegangen, der den Auschwitz- Prozess initiiert und in einer Vielzahl weiterer Fälle die Verfolgung von NS-Verbrechen in die Wege geleitet hat. In Büchern, Aufsätzen, Zeitungsartikeln, Interviews und Reden in Hörfunk und Fernsehen reflektierte er die gesellschaftliche und politische Lage der Bundesrepublik in der Nachkriegszeit. Daneben formulierte er ein kriminalpolitisches Programm, in dem er Ziel und Zweck des Strafrechts grundlegend infrage stellte. Bauer hat in diesen Schriften oft Positionen bezogen, die für seine Zeit ungewöhnlich waren; zugleich zeigen sie, wie eng er dem Denken seiner Zeit verbunden war. Sie gewähren Einsicht in Diskussionen der frühen Bundesrepublik und führen eindrucksvoll vor Augen, wie sich Bauer als Jurist, Remigrant, jüdischer Intellektueller und Sozialdemokrat einmischte und Gehör verschaffte. So eröffnen seine »Kleinen Schriften« aus heute meist unzugänglichen Zeitungen und Zeitschriften, den Blick auf die Brüche in Bauers Biografie, auf Exil und Remigration als Schlüsselerfahrungen. Fritz Bauer (1903–1968) war eine der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeiten im Kampf für die juristische Ahndung der NS-Verbrechen in den 1950er- und 1960er-Jahren in der Bundesrepublik. Von den Nationalsozialisten ins Exil getrieben, kehrte Bauer 1949 nach West-Deutschland zurück und setzte sich als hessischer Generalstaatsanwalt für die Demokratisierung des Landes ein.     Les nouveaux paysages urbains de Singapour dans la Malaisie rurale (2022)

    Description: Singapour et Johor, l’État malaisien voisin, entretiennent des liens étroits du fait de leur histoire commune et d’intenses interactions économiques et sociales. Résidents d’une métropole mondiale moderne, les Singapouriens bénéficient d’un fort pouvoir d’achat mais doivent aussi faire face à des coûts de la vie élevés. En comparaison, Johor, et plus particulièrement la région métropolitaine de Johor Bahru, leur offre des prix compétitifs aussi bien pour le logement, la consommation courante, que pour les activités de loisirs. Au-delà de l’avantage économique, l’État voisin représente aussi un espace qui aurait conservé des aspects du Singapour d’antan tels le kampung (village traditionnel) et la nature “sauvage”. Dans cette perspective, se sont établies à Johor de nouvelles fermes agrotouristiques recréant des paysages associés à la ruralité et offrant aux visiteurs des espaces, des personnages et des expériences à l’opposé de ce qui est considéré comme urbain. Pour autant, ces lieux ayant été fabriqués à l’image des attentes d’un public citadin, ce livre émet l’hypothèse que ces espaces font partie intégrante de l’urbanisation. Ainsi, si la plupart des études urbaines sont centrées sur les espaces bâtis tels que les villes et les zones commerciales ou industrielles, l’auteure offre ici un nouveau regard sur l’urbain en dehors de ces paysages bâtis conventionnels.

Mit Hilfe eines ethnographischen Ansatzes wird ein lebendiges Bild der elterlichen sozialen Interaktionen innerhalb und außerhalb des chinesischen Schulumfelds gezeichnet. Die Studie zeigt die Bedeutung sozialer Interaktionen auf und erörtert sie im Zusammenhang mit dem sozioökonomischen Hintergrund ihrer Migrationsverläufe; How do parents cooperate with each other, what value do they attach to their interaction and how is the degree of cooperation related to social status? The study takes a close look at the social relationships among various groups of Chinese parents at a Chinese Mandarin language school in a metropolitan city in Germany. Taking an ethnographic approach, it captures a vivid picture of the parental social interactions in and outside the Chinese school setting. The study reveals the significance of social interactions, discussing it in relation to the parents’ socioeconomic backgrounds and individual migrant trajectories.
