    Description: Zur gezielten Beeinflussung des Reibungsverhaltens können Wirkflächentexturierungen ein effizientes Hilfsmittel darstellen und waren daher Kern dieser Untersuchungen.Die Wirkung der kanalartigen Mikrotexturen auf tribologische Kenngrößen wie Schmierfilmdicke und Reibungszahl wurde durch Modellbildung auf relevante Texturkenngrößen zurückgeführt. Das Modell liefert einen Ansatzpunkt zur systemspezifischen Auslegung von Texturierungen als Konstruktionsdetail in ölgeschmierten Friktionssystemen.

    Description: This work introduces a novel wireless approach for the data transmission within automotive battery management systems. The main target is the reduction of the wiring harness deployed in a battery. The characteristics of the wireless in-battery channel are investigated by means of measurements and software-based electromagnetic simulations. Different types of antennas and frequency bands are analyzed. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated by means of simulations and prototypes.

    Description: In this book we successfully demonstrate a millimeter-precision laser rangefinder using a low-cost photon counter. An application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) comprises timing circuitry and single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) as the photodetectors. For the timing circuitry, a novel binning architecture for sampling the received signal is proposed which mitigates non-idealities that are inherent to a system with SPADs and timing circuitry in one chip.

    Microstructural stability of nanostructured fcc metals during cyclic deformation and fatigue (2021)

    Description: Nanostructured metals with maximal grain or twin sizes of less than 100 nm have advanced properties like increased strength.As beneficial as these microstructures can be for the strength of materials, they are not infinitely stable. During mechanical loading these metals tend to coarsen and lose their beneficial structure. Besides electron microscopic analysis of fatigued samples, in situ cycling tests were conducted in order to observe structural degradation during mechanical loading.

    Description: In this book a novel optical switch is designed, developed, and tested. The switch integrates optical switching, transparent traffic aggregation/grooming, and optical regener-ation. Innovative switch subsystems are developed that enable these functionalities, including all-optical OTDM-to-WDM converters. High capacity ring interconnection between metro-core rings, carrying 130 Gbit/s OTDM traffic, and metro-access rings carring 43 Gbit/s WDM traffic is experimentally demonstrated. The developed switch features flexibility in bandwidth provisioning, scalability to higher traffic volumes, and backward compatibility with existing network implementations in a future-proof way.

    Description: Neuartige Antriebsprinzipien wie flexible Fluidaktoren erlauben die Entwicklung leichter und vielgliedriger anthropomorpher Hände, deren Größe dem menschlichen Vorbild sehr nahe kommt. Sie schließen die Lücke zwischen Greifern mit eingeschränkter Beweglichkeit und sehr aufwändigen Roboterhänden für die Teleoperation. Ihre Einsatzgebiete sind sowohl Handprothesen als auch humanoide Serviceroboter.Dieses Buch trägt zur Entwicklung von Sensoren für solche Hände bei und zeigt ihre Anwendung am Beispiel von Regelungs- und Greifverfahren. Zusammengestellt werden die Aufgaben, Fähigkeiten und Anforderungen in Anlehnung an die Physiologie und Tätigkeiten der menschlichen Hand. Aus der Analyse und Modellierung des Aktorverhaltens werden weitere Randbedingungen für ein Sensorsystem hergeleitet. Nach der Darstellung der bereits in künstlichen Händen eingesetzten Messverfahren erfolgt die Auswahl, Auslegung und Optimierung von Winkelsensoren, taktilen Kraftsensoren und Sensoren zur Messung des Aktordrucks.Zur Übertragung der Sensorsignale an eine Steuerungseinheit werden unterschiedliche Leitungsmaterialien und Verkabelungsstrukturen bewertet.Die Nutzung der Sensoren wird an Hand verschiedener Regelungsvarianten für einzelne und mehrere Gelenke im pneumatischen und hydraulischen Betrieb demonstriert.Abschließend werden die Funktionen einer Greifsteuerung als Schnittstelle zwischen der Gelenkregelung und einer übergeordneten Robotersteuerung diskutiert.

    Description: In this book, semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) are studied with a view to linear and nonlinear applications in next-generation optical networks. Quantum-dot SOAs can be optimized for linear amplification of signals with different modulation formats and multiplexing techniques. Conversely, bulk SOAs can be easily optimized for operation in the nonlinear regime. However, due to the fast carrier recovery times in QD SOAs we also look into nonlinear applications with these devices.

    Micromechanical Modeling and Simulation of Forming Processes (2021)

    Description: The deep drawing of an aluminum alloy used in the packaging industry for the beverage can manufacturing process is investigated. In this work, the effective constitutive behavior is based on a crystal plasticity model in combination with a non-linear Hashin-Shtrikman type homogenization scheme in which a reference stiffness controls the stress and strain fluctuations. The simulation results are compared to experiments in terms of deep drawing earing profiles, texture evolution, and localization.

    Modelling the human cardiac fluid mechanics (2021)

    Description: We present a virtual heart model simulating the flow in the left human ventricle and in the aorta. Because of the lack of in vivo structure data of the human ventricle, the active ventricle movement is given by a time-dependent ventricle model that is derived from in vivo image data of a nuclear spin MRT tomograph of a healthy human heart. The passive part of the virtual heart model consists of a model aorta and vena cava, and of heart valves. As the movement is due to the flow in the inactive region of the heart, a coupling of flow and structure is necessary in the model to take into account the deviation of the aorta and the closing and opening of the heart valves. The flow calculation is performed with a finite volume method, while the structure of the aorta is calculated using the finite element method. The flow resistance of the time simulation in the body is taken into account with a circulation model. In the outlook of the article, we show how the virtual heart model can be used to predict flow losses due to pathological ventricle contraction defects in an unhealthy human heart.

Im Fokus der Arbeit lag die Optimierung der Kathode für Betriebstemperaturen 〈 600°C. Nanoskalige La0.6Sr0.4CoO3-[delta] Dünnschichtkathoden wurden untersucht, wobei mit Hilfe von Mikrostrukturoptimierung und bedingt durch oberflächliche Sekundärphasen extrem hohe Leistungsfähigkeiten erzielt werden konnten. Auch konnte erstmalig die elektrochemische Kathodenreaktion in 5 Teilprozesse unterteilt werden.

    Novel Aggregated Solutions for Robust Visual Tracking in Traf?c Scenarios (2021)

    Description: This work proposes novel approaches for object tracking in challenging scenarios like severe occlusion, deteriorated vision and long range multi-object reidenti?cation. All these solutions are only based on image sequence captured by a monocular camera and do not require additional sensors. Experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate an improved state-of-the-art performance of these approaches. Since all the presented approaches are smartly designed, they can run at a real-time speed.

    Description: All-optical signal processing will be used in future communication networks. We discuss a new and generic scheme for such devices. The basic configuration comprises an asymmetric resonator within an active or passive nonlinear medium. This arrangement enables all-optical flip-flop operation and switching with a reduced threshold. In addition, a novel optical isolator concept based on resonator asymmetries is is introduced. The model is also applicable to photonic crystal based resonators.

    Active and Passive Plasmonic Devices for Optical Communications (2021)

    Description: A short introduction to the theory of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) is given. The application of the SPPs in on-chip signal processing is discussed. In particular, two concepts of plasmonic modulators are reported, wherein the SPPs are modulated by 40 Gbit/s electrical signals. Phase and Mach-Zehnder modulators employing the Pockels effect in electro-optic organic materials are discussed. A few micro-meter long SPP absorption modulator based on a thin layer of indium-tin-oxide is reported.

    Determining Cycle Times for Packing in Distribution Centres (2021)

    Description: Scope of this work is to determine cycle time formulas for packing in distribution centres. No such formulas exist today, even if it is the second most important process after picking. Based on examining packing, morphological boxes showing time influencing parameters are derived. The most significant parameters are identified using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Cycle times are determined and applied to cases. These prove that the formulas can be used to calculate the time required for packing.

Many pixel spectra are mixtures of pure materials’ spectra and therefore need to be decomposed into their constituents. This work investigates new decomposition methods taking into account spectral, spatial and global 3D adjacency information. This allows for faster and more accurate decomposition results.

    Description: The most commonly used measurement technique for electrophysiology is the patch clamp technique. While this measurement technique allows the precise investigation of the communication taking place through ion channels, it has some undesirable drawbacks such as the local destruction of the plasma membrane, a low success rate and an elaborate experimental procedure. To avoid these drawbacks, in this work a new non-invasive microfluidic platform for electrophysiological research (NIMEP) was developed with regard to the activity of ion channels. This novel approach is based on the non-invasive measurement of the total current through the cell membrane and provides a possibility for an automated investigation of the individual cells. In addition, the investigated cell can be used for other applications, since the cell remains in an intact state before and after the test.

Zur Regelung eines Prozesses anhand seines nicht zugänglichen Zustands werden echtzeitfähige und robuste Beobachtermodelle mittels statistischer Modellierung erstellt, um den Prozesszustand aus wenigen observablen Messgrößen zu rekonstruieren. Die Zustandsverfolgung und die optimale Prozessführung werden mit einem generischen Prozessmodell zur allgemeinen Beschreibung der Prozessbeziehungen, die bei der Anwendung auf einen Prozess durch Anpassung auf konkrete Daten ausgeprägt werden, umgesetzt. Die Machbarkeit der generischen Prozessmodellierung wird durch Anwendung auf mehrere Prozesse des Tiefziehens unterschiedlicher Komplexität und einen Prozess des Widerstandspunktschweißens demonstriert.

    Description: Sowohl bei der Fertigung industrieller Zwischenprodukte als auch bei der Produktion von Konsumgütern treten vielerlei glänzende bzw. spiegelnde Oberflächen auf. Während bei technischen spiegelnden Oberflächen, wie z.B. Press- bzw. Gusswerkzeugen oder optischen Bauelementen, die Funktionalität des Werkstücks durch Oberflächendefekte gefährdet ist, stehen bei Produkten für den Endkunden, wie z.B. Armaturen, Musikinstrumenten oder lackierten Autokarosserien, ästhetische Aspekte im Vordergrund. Gerade im Bereich der Automobilindustrie sind die Qualitätsansprüche der Endkunden in den letzten Jahren enorm gestiegen, so dass marktübliche Verfahren zur Qualitätssicherung allmählich an ihre Grenzen stoßen.Ein Messverfahren, das den gestiegenen Anforderungen an Genauigkeit und Geschwindigkeit weitgehend gerecht wird, ist die Deflektometrie. Sie ist dem menschlichen Verhalten beim Prüfen spiegelnder Oberflächen nachempfunden. Aufbauend auf dem deflektometrischen Messprinzip wurden im Rahmen dieser Arbeit Algorithmen entwickelt, welche die Planung eines deflektometrischen Messaufbaus automatisieren. Für eine präzise Messung geringer Krümmungsänderungen wurden darüber hinaus Methoden vorgestellt, welche die Phase der optischen Abbildungsfunktion analysieren. Weiterhin wurden Verfahren entwickelt, welche die punktweise Fokusänderung messen. Diese zeichnen sich durch eine hohe Geschwindigkeit aus und ermöglichen eine empfindliche Erkennung von Defekten mit geringer lateraler Ausdehnung (Blasen, Einschlüsse) in Echtzeit. Die Leistungsfähigkeit der entwickelten Verfahren wurde dabei nicht nur in Simulationen demonstriert, sondern auch an Hand von realen, industrierelevanten Oberflächen, wie Karosserieteilen, Linsen und Spiegeln.

Das Lehrbuch beabsichtigt nicht, das Gebiet der Aerothermodynamik umfassend zu behandeln. Es umfaßt die Stoffauswahl einer vom Erstautor über mehr als einem Jahrzehnt gehaltenen Spezialvorlesung, die dem Wissensstand eines Maschinenbaustudenten im 8. Semester angepaßt ist, der erfahrungsgemäß noch keine Berührung mit der Nichtgleichgewichts-Thermodynamik und gaskinetischen Betrachtungsweise der Strömungsmechanik hatte. Die Mitautoren haben im Rahmen ihrer Dissertationen den Vorlesungsstoff weiter vertieft und insbesondere in den numerisch orientierten Kapiteln die neuesten Ergebnisse eingearbeitet. Damit wird auch der im Beruf stehende Ingenieur für seine praktische Projektarbeit in den Hyperschall-Technologieprogrammen und Projekten zahlreiche Anregungen finden können.Der Lehrstoff gliedert sich in Einführungskapitel über die Grundlagen und Eigenschaften von Hyperschallströmungen und die Grundbegriffe der Nichtgleichgewichts-Thermodynamik heißer Gase. Es folgen die Kapitel ""Verdünnte Strömungen"" und ""Kontinuumsströmungen"", in denen den gaskinetischen und kontinuumsmechanischen Grundgleichungen , ausgewählten numerischen Lösungsmethoden und der Modellierung der Luftchemie ein besonders breiter Raum eingeräumt wurde. Das Lehrbuch schließt mit dem Kapitel über einige ausgewählte Hyperschall-Projekte und Technologieprogramme unter Einbeziehung der Versuchsanlagen und Großrechner-Verbundsysteme ab.

    Description: The deformation behavior of steels is strongly influenced by their microstructure which is a result of the alloying elements and thermal treatments. In this work, the microstructure and the deformation behavior of a non-alloyed deep drawing DC04 steel was investigated. The microstructure was analyzed during heat treatment by EBSD, then microcompression experiments were performed on selected microstructural units and then bulk steel samples were mechanically tested by tensile experiments.

    Description: This work describes the OFDM-based MIMO Radar-Communication System, intended for operation in a multiple-user network, especially the automotive sector in the vehicle-to vehicle/infrastructure network. The OFDM signals however are weak towards frequency offsets causing subcarrier misalignment and corrupts the radar estimation and the demodulation of the communication signal. A simple yet effective interference cancellation algorithm is detailed here with real time measurement verification.

    Description: Viele verschiedene Verfahren ermöglichen den automatischen Entwurf von Entscheidungssystemen bei Unsicherheit. Dazu gehören neben Methoden des maschinellen Lernens auch neuronale Netze und statistische Verfahren. Unterschiedliche Konsequenzen von Fehlentscheidungen werden dabei nur in wenigen Fällen berücksichtigt. Die Möglichkeit, Entscheidungen bei widersprüchlichen oder unzureichenden Informationen an einen Experten zu delegieren ist ebenfalls in den meisten Entwurfsverfahren nur ansatzweise abgebildet.Diese Arbeit trägt zur Weiterentwicklung von Verfahren zur automatischen Generierung von Fuzzy-Entscheidungssystemen bei. Die Bewertung der Entscheidungssysteme erfolgt dabei auf der Basis der Entscheidungstheorie. Über eine Kostenmatrix werden die Konsequenzen von Fehlentscheidungen modelliert. Die Kosten der Merkmale, die das Entscheidungssystem verwendet, werden optional in die Bewertung einbezogen. Für alle Entwurfsschritte des Fuzzy-Systems werden entscheidungstheoretische Bewertungsmaße entworfen und ihre Anwendung an anschaulichen Beispielen demonstriert. Für die Möglichkeit der Delegation von Entscheidungen an einen Experten wird ein neues Inferenzverfahren auf der Basis der Evidenztheorie entwickelt. Zur Reduktion der Merkmalskosten wird die Entwurfsmethodik für Fuzzy-Systeme um ein Verfahren zum Entwurf von mehrstufigen Regelbasen erweitert. Bei mehrstufigen Regelbasen werden nicht alle Merkmale für jede Entscheidung ausgewertet.Die Leistungsfähigkeit der entwickelten Maße und Verfahren wird anhand von Benchmark Datensätzen und einem realitätsnahen Beispiel aus der Robotik demonstriert. Der Vorteil der Interpretierbarkeit der Fuzzy-Systeme wird an einem Beispiel gezeigt.

    Description: Der Band widmet sich einer Brems-Ausweich-Assistenz. Zunächst werden Situationen identifiziert, in denen Ausweichen einen Sicherheitsvorteil liefert. Darauf werden Systemkonzepte erarbeitet, mit denen der Fahrer auf die kritische Situation und die Ausweichoption aufmerksam gemacht und während des Fahrmanövers unterstützt wird. Probandenstudien zeigen, dass die Unfallhäufigkeit signifikant reduziert werden kann. Damit werden weitere Möglichkeiten zur Steigerung der Verkehrssicherheit eröffnet.

Die Kenntnis der thermischen Belastung spielt bei der Auslegung von Hochtemperaturbauteilen eine entscheidende Rolle. Gegenstand dieser Arbeit ist die Bereitstellung eines Monte Carlo Berechnungsverfahrens, welches den dreidimensionalen Strahlungswärmeaustausch in Verbrennungsräumen vollständig wiedergibt und die Rückkopplung mit dem Verbrennungsprozess erfasst.

A new and highly resolved health damage cost assessment framework is developed and applied, notably in order to evaluate the influence of site-dependent and generic methodological choices.     Description: The late Middle Ages witnessed the transformation of the county of Holland from a peripheral agrarian region to a highly commercialised and urbanised one. This book examines how the organisation of commodity markets contributed to this remarkable development. Comparing Holland to England and Flanders, the book shows that Holland’s specific history of reclamation and settlement had given rise to a favourable balance of powers between state, nobility, towns and rural communities that reduced opportunities for rent-seeking and favoured the rise of efficient markets. This allowed burghers, peasants and fishermen to take full advantage of new opportunities presented by changing economic and ecological circumstances in the late fourteenth and early fifteenth centuries.
