    Description: The Gender-Sensitive University explores the prevailing forces that pose obstacles to driving a gender-sensitive university, which include the emergence of far-right movements that seek to subvert advances towards gender equality and managerialism that promotes creeping corporatism. This book demonstrates that awareness of gender equality and gender sensitivity are essential for pulling contemporary academia back from the brink. New forms of leadership are fundamental to reforming our institutions. The concept of a gender-sensitive university requires re-envisioning academia to meet these challenges, as does a different engagement of men and a shift towards fluidity in how gender is formulated and performed. Academia can only be truly gender-sensitive if, learning from the past, it can avoid repeating the same mistakes and addressing existing and new biases. The book chapters analyse these challenges and advocate the possibilities to ‘fix it forward’ in all areas. Representing ten EU countries and multiple disciplines, contributors to this volume highlight the evidence of persistent gender inequalities in academia, while advocating a blueprint for addressing them. The book will be of interest to a global readership of students, academics, researchers, practitioners, academic and political leaders and policy makers who share an interest in what it takes to establish gender-sensitive universities.

Diese Arbeit soll von ihm handeln, und besonders von einem Werk, das beinahe nicht zur Kenntnis genommen wird. Es soll eine gänzlich in Vergessenheit geratene Begegnung wieder ans Licht kommen: die Begegnung zwischen dem Autor Trediakovskij, dessen Rolle in der Literaturgeschichte unterschätzt wird, und einem Roman John Barclays, der "Argenis", dem in ganz Europa populärsten Roman des 17.     The System of the Inquisition in Medieval Europe (2021)

    Description: This book reexamines the origins and growth of the medieval inquisition which provided a framework for the large-scale operations against religious dissidents. In the last quarter of the twelfth century, the papacy launched concerted efforts to hunt out heretics, mostly Cathars and Waldensians, and directed operations against them all across Latin Christendom. The bull of Pope Lucius III Ad abolendam of 1184 became a turning point in the formation of the inquisitorial system which made both the clergy and the laity responsible for suppressing any religious dissent. From a comparative perspective, the study analyzes political, social and religious developments which in the High Middle Ages gave birth to the mechanism of repression and religious violence supervised by the papacy and operated by bishops and, starting from the 1230s, papal inquisitors, extraordinary judges delegate staffed mostly by Dominican and Franciscan friars.

    Description: What is it that unites the European Union as a polity? Why is it necessary to democratise the EU? Can EU politicisation help democratising the EU? Why do EU citizens in referenda seemingly vote against the EU? And how can a European identity develop? To tackle these questions, this book makes a theoretical, conceptual and empirical contribution to the study of EU politicisation, democratisation, identity formation, and the ways these three are related to one another. The results of a thorough comparative analysis of two prototypical cases, namely French and German national EU discourses and in particular the discourses on the Treaty on a Constitution for Europe (TCE) in 2005, are discussed in relation to more current events such as Brexit and the French elections of 2022. The book thus develops key concepts and theoretical models and delivers profound findings on EU democratisation, identity, politicisation and contestation and their interrelations. Es handelt sich dabei um den ältesten erhaltenen ostslavischen Sammelband, der neben Werken der Übersetzungsliteratur auch Werke ostslavischer Herkunft, das Skazanie von Boris und Gleb, das Skazanie von den Wundern der beiden Heiligen Roman und David und die Vita des Feodosij Pečerskij enthält. Dazu kommen aus der ältesten Zeit des slavischen Schrifttums die Vita des Slavenapostels Method und die Laudatio für Kyrill und Method, ferner eine Homilie über Christi Himmelfahrt, die seit Kalajdovič als Originalwerk des Exarchen Johannes gilt.

    Description: This chapter provides an overview of state-of-the-art research revolving around China’s use of economic and financial means to serve foreign policy objectives with normative implications, defined here as normative economic statecraft. The chapter’s overview of China’s use of economic statecraft reveals its breadth and diversity. China also indirectly challenges existing international norms of economic governance by its alternative modus operandi. As China does not always proclaim its challenge to existing norms, this paper suggests an analytical distinction between stated and concealed normative objectives. Much of China’s challenge to global economic governance norms is concealed. Research on China has revitalized old debates on economic statecraft and geoeconomics, and reoriented their focus from economic coercion (e.g., sanctions) to economic inducements, and alternative institutions and norms. This subfield of China studies thus has a scholarly impact beyond the area studies specialization

    Description: Die vorliegenden Untersuchungen sind der Nominalkomposition als Teilsystem des Wortbildungssystems gewidmet. Anhand eines Vergleichs des Nominalkompostionssystems vor der Revolution und des heutigen sollten Entwicklungstendenzen in diesem Teilsystem der Wortbildung festgestellt werden. Im Zusammenhang damit wird der Versuch unternommen, die sprachimmanenten Bedingungen für das erscheinen jenes besonderen Typs von Komposita zu analysieren, die russisch als "složnosokraščennye slova" bezeichnet werden und deutsch meist als "Kurzwörter" bekannt sind.

    Description: The author of this thesis is aware that the above-mentioned contrastive studies deal extensively with the aspect and action type issues from their respective perspectives. Nevertheless, she has decided to take a stand on this topic herself. 1. The essay is a Germanic work that represents certain areas of the German language in contrast to Polish. 2. The aim of the work is a linguistic text analysis and not the description of the language systems. For the purposes of the essay, various texts have been selected and analyzed and described according to certain principles. Therefore, the results of the study are text corpus related. 3. The broad definition of aspectuality enables the comparison of different phenomena that are not only related to the verbal level but also take into account the contextual sentence and text levels. 4. Both translation directions Polish-German and German-Polish will be considered in the paper. Not only Polish, but also German original texts provide pertinent signals that need to be described and that can usually be found again in the translation.
    Description: Die Verfasserin dieser Arbeit ist sich dessen bewusst, dass die oben erwähnten kontrastiven Untersuchungen die Aspekt- und Aktionsartproblematik aus ihrer jeweiligen Sicht ausführlich behandeln. Trotzdem hat sie sich entschieden, selbst Stellung zu diesem Thema zu nehmen. 1. Die Abhandlung ist eine germanistische Arbeit, die bestimmte Bereiche der deutschen Sprache im Kontrast zum Polnischen darstellt. 2. Das Ziel der Arbeit ist eine linguistische Textanalyse und nicht die Beschreibung der Sprachsysteme. Für die Zwecke der Abhandlung wurden verschiedene Texte ausgewählt und nach bestimmten Prinzipien analysiert und beschrieben. Von daher sind die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung textkorpusbezogen. 3. Die breite Definition der Aspektualität ermöglicht den Vergleich verschiedener Phänomene, die sich nicht nur auf die verbale Ebene beziehen, sondern auch die kontextuelle Satz- und Textebene berücksichtigen. 4. Beide Übersetzungsrichtungen Polnisch-Deutsch und Deutsch-Polnisch werden in der Abhandlung berücksichtigt. Nicht nur polnische, sondern auch deutsche Originaltexte liefern nämlich aspektuelle Signale, die es zu beschreiben gilt und die in der Regel auch in der Übersetzung wieder zu finden sind.

    Description: During the Middle Ages, rulers from different regions aspired to an idea of imperial hegemony. On the other hand, there were rulers who deliberately refused to be «emperors», although their reign showed characteristics of imperial rule. The contributions in this volume ask for the reasons why some rulers such as Charlemagne strove for imperial titles, whereas others voluntarily shrank from them. They also look at the characteristics of and rituals connected to imperial rule as well as to the way Medieval empires saw themselves. Thus, the authors in this volume adopt a transcultural perspective, covering Western, Eastern, Northern and Southern Europe, Byzantium and the Middle East. Furthermore, they go beyond the borders of Christianity by including various caliphates and Islamic «hegemonic» rulers like Saladin.

    Description: This chapter highlights the relevance of text categorisation for research in legal translation by focusing on institutional translation settings, namely: the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), and their corresponding adjudicative bodies.1 After briefly reviewing recurrent issues and models of legal text classification (section 2), a multidimensional approach is applied to the multilingual text production of the three representative institutional translation settings during three years over the span of a decade (2005, 2010 and 2015), as part of the project “Legal Translation in International Institutional Settings: Scope, Strategies and Quality Markers” (LETRINT) (section 3). The resulting subdivisions are integrated into a categorisation matrix and discussed as a way of illustrating the relative nature and implications of text classifications. The fine-grained description of corpus design and representativeness, technical aspects of corpus compilation and full taxonomies of genres are not addressed in this chapter.

Since their publication as a continuation novel in "Moskovskiy Žurnal" from 1791-1792 (in the following MŽ 1) they are considered both the first realization of the "novyj slog" (new language / new style) as well as the beginning of Russian sentimentalism. Both assumptions are controversial. The present work should contribute to the clarification of contentious questions by providing a detailed description of the syntactic facts in the main work of Karamzin for the first time.
    Description: N. M. Karamzins "Pis'ma russkogo putešestvennika" (im folgenden PRP) nehmen in der Geschichte der russischen Sprache und Literatur einen besonderen Platz ein. Seit ihrem Erscheinen als Fortsetzungsroman im "Moskovskij Žurnal" von 1791-1792 (im folgenden MŽ 1) gelten sie sowohl als erste Realisierung des "novyj slog" (neue Sprache/neuer Stil) als auch als Beginn des russischen Sentimentalismus.     Description: The present study is a comprehensive analysis of the evolution of the system of long and short adjectives in Old Russian, a profound language change to which very little previous research has been devoted. It is generally assumed that in prehistoric Slavic, the system was purely grammatical with the long form denoting definiteness and the short form denoting indefiniteness. The present study finds, on the basis of evidence collected from Old Russian chronicle texts, that even the earliest of these sources display a substantially transformed system no longer reflecting the opposition between definiteness and indefiniteness, but governed by parameters of information structure.

    Description: This book provides an overview of the modifications and interaction of the Second-Language Learning discursive formation and the Identity discursive formation over four centuries of Russian history. It proposes an explanatory model in which small-scale linguistic detail is combined harmoniously with larger-scale language units in order to illuminate matters of cultural importance in their linguistic guise. Hallmark of its interdisciplinary scope is the isomorphic interpretation of image and text. Compositionally, interdisciplinarity pours into a nonlinear narrative; this narrative follows a spiral, redefining on a higher level and in a different setting distinctions, which were first discovered on a lower level with the theoretical devices of other disciplines. The lower coil of the helix accommodates the complementary argumentations of anthropology and lexical semantics; the higher one brings the conclusions to the plane of discourse analysis and semiotics

    Description: European culture has been greatly influenced by the Christian Church and Greek and Roman culture. However, the peoples of Europe’s remote past, whom the Greeks, Romans, and their medieval heirs called the «barbarians», also left their mark. Closely examining ancient and medieval narratives and the codifications of laws, this thoughtfully conducted comparative study sheds light on the illiterate societies of the early Germanic and Slavic peoples. The picture that emerges is one of communities built on kinship, neighborly, and tribal relations, where decision making, judgement, and punishment were carried out collectively, and the distinction between the sacred and profane was unknown.

    Description: ‘What is Europe? It’s not just a series of banknotes’, an interviewee remarked when asked about European heritage. Our study of European Capitals of Culture (ECoC), one of the main European heritage programmes, proceeds in the same spirit, informed by the complex and disputed discussions of what Europe is (see, for example, Sassatelli 2002 ) and how, within such shifting grounds, European heritage might be interpreted (see, for instance, Delanty 2017 ; Niklasson 2017). Described by some as large- scale bottom- up cultural programming (Immler and Sakkers 2014 ), the ECoC programme has seen several cities across Europe compete for the title of European Capital of Culture for more than three decades now. Our research has focussed on three cities, Valletta as ECoC 2018 , Plovdiv as ECoC 2019 and Galway as ECoC 2020. We are conducting a discourse analysis of the submitted bids as the key documents related to each city’s participation in the programme; we are then investigating four common themes that emerge from this analysis: Europe, heritage, diversity and future.

    Description: European politics has provided clear signals: the next round in the process of EU enlargement with the accession of the Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) will come. Since expectations concerning the costs and benefits of integration are varied, it is our aim to contribute to this discussion by undertaking an empirical assessment of integration. Firstly the extent of potential free labour mobility between the CEEC and the EU is assessed using an econometric model. On that basis, different integration scenarios, i.e. trade liberalisation, capital transfers and labour migration are simulated using a computable general equilibrium model. Our results suggest that migration flows will be moderate and that integration is likely to cause positive welfare effects in the CEEC and negligible effects in the EU.

    Description: The concerns not only of the Slavic minorities are gaining in significance with the forthcoming eastward enlargement of the European Union. The Russians or Ruthenians are a Slavic ethnic group, which is mainly located in the Carpathian region as a border area between Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine, an excellent example of this, as their culture and language not only in a historical and religious, but also developed in a linguistic border or transition area. Only at the turn of the last century did they succeed in gaining greater attention for their language and culture. In the course of the last century, the development of their language has fluctuated regionally between oppression and normalization / codification. This was accompanied by the weakening or strengthening of Russian identity, which experienced an unexpected boom at the end of the 20th century after the end of the communist regime.
    Description: Die Anliegen nicht nur der slavischen Minderheiten gewinnen mit der bevorstehenden Osterweiterung der Europäischen Union an Bedeutung. Die Russinen oder Ruthenen sind als slavische Volksgruppe,die vor allem im Karpatenraum als Grenzgebiet zwischen Polen, Ungarn, der Slowakei und der Ukraine beheimatet ist, ein hervorragendes Beispiel dafür, da sich ihre Kultur und Sprache nicht nur in einem historischen und religiösen, sondern auch in einem sprachlichen Grenz- bzw. Übergangsgebiet entwickelt hat. Erst um die vorletzte Jahrhundertwende gelang es ihnen, ihrer Sprache und Kultur größere Aufmerksamkeit zu verschaffen. Im Laufe des letzten Jahrhunderts schwankte die Entfaltung ihrer Sprache regional zwischen Unterdrückung und Normierung/Kodifizierung. Damit einher ging die Schwächung bzw. Stärkung russinischer Identität, die am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts nach dem Ende der kommunistischen Regime eine unerwartete Blüte erlebte.

    Description: Traditional arts practices and festivals have attracted increasing and diverse attention in the European context since policymakers discovered ‘culture’ as a resource in the 1980s (see, e.g., Kilday 1998 ). Their impact on their respective communities of practice, modes of production and exchange value in contemporary European society is under the spotlight from various angles within the newly emerged fi eld of ‘festival studies’, which is deeply connected to policy issues (Frost 2016 ). Their characteristic is the shift from (love) semantics to a specific (love) rhetoric. Love discourses in the textual presentation are no longer constituted through the traditional narration of love stories or stories about love, but through a practice of love-speech. As a result, language no longer functions as a means of description, but itself becomes the object of description and reflection. Examining this phenomenon in conjunction with the theme of love discourses is the main interest of the work.
    Description: Liebesdiskurse, so die Grundthese der Arbeit, figurieren in Narbikovas Texten als textkonstituierend. Deren Charakteristikum ist die Verschiebung von (Liebes-)Semantik hin zu einer spezifischen (Liebes-)Rhetorik. Liebesdiskurse werden in der textuellen Darstellung nicht mehr über das traditionelle Erzählen von Liebesgeschichten bzw. Geschichten über die Liebe konstituiert, sondern durch eine Praxis des Liebe-Sprechens. Sprache fungiert demzufolge nicht mehr als Mittel der Beschreibung, sondern avanciert selbst zum Gegenstand von Beschreibung und Reflexion. Der Untersuchung dieses Phänomens im Konnex mit dem Thema der Liebesdiskurse gilt das wesentliche Interesse der Arbeit.

    Description: Regional disparities and spatial clustering are ubiquitous in today’s world. This study contributes with empirical findings on the distribution of European research and patenting activity since the 1980s at the regional level. Besides a general theoretical part, it offers a quantitative clustering analysis, which makes use of EPO patent applications and a harmonized regional and technological classification. Moreover, the pan-European study incorporates a structural analysis of inter-regional co-patenting networks at the regional and technological level that covers the 1990s and 2000s. Finally, European regional income and growth disparities are addressed by placing emphasis on the spatial distribution of research activity and the regional settlement structure.

    Description: This monograph book offers a new interpretation of northern European art of the fifteenth century. The author presents it as a conglomerate of objects-things which act on the recipient in a specific – material and spatial – way. He analyzes macro-scale objects that impose movement on the viewer, and micro-scale objects that encourage manipulation. Inspired by the anti-anthropocentric concept of “returning to things” (B. Latour, A. Gell and others), the author searches for the “agency of things” in late-medieval art objects, which evoke specific liturgical, devotional, propaganda-political behaviors, or establish the status of social owner of the object that once co-created the network of material and spiritual culture. This methodologically innovative approach is part of the latest research in early art in Western Europe and the United States.

It looks at elite level dynamics in China and discusses elements of power concentration including personalization, administrative centralization, and state control over economic assets. There is a general trend of deepening autocratization during Xi Jinping’s regime. Institutional arrangements in existing institutions such as Party bodies and the People’s Liberation Army, innovation of new institutions, and purges of opponents show a clear trend of power concentration. Before the Xi era, the central government shared power with regional administrations and China’s level of fiscal decentralization was relatively high in international comparison. More recently, the tide has turned towards increasing centralization. In the economic realm, China’s development model has many features ensuring Party control. New forms of control such as the social credit system have emerged along with traditional measures, such as state control of the financial sector and special arrangements guiding state-owned companies.

Recognising that heritage is inherently political and used by diverse actors as a tool for re-imagining communities, identities, and borders, and for generating notions of inclusion and exclusion in Europe, the book also considers the idea of Europe itself as a narrative. Chapters tackle issues such as multilevel governance of heritage; geopolitics of border-crossings and border-making; participation and non-participation; and embodiment and affective experience of heritage. Creating and Governing Cultural Heritage in the European Union advances heritage studies with an interdisciplinary approach that utilises and combines theories and conceptualizations from critical geopolitics, political studies, EU and European studies, cultural policy research, and cultural studies.     Description: In the present monograph the author tries to get to the bottom of the traditional view that in Bulgarian there is a morphological category with the meaning 'rendering of foreign speech', called renarrative. However, the analysis of the formative-meaning relationship has shown that neither the given paradigm has this meaning nor does the expression of the corresponding concept necessitate the application of the forms, but rather the explication of the meaning 'renarrative' as well as that of the so-called admirativ u.a.m. only at the level of expression. The forms under discussion are one building block next to another, which has the semantic invariant 'state constancy' as its content and merges into the morphological category 'Tempus' as a perfect and / or pluperfect (variant). Apart from the discussion of the term 'mode', the origin of this mode of expression as well as the position of Bulgarian are examined in detail from a typological point of view.
    Description: In der vorliegenden Monographie unternimmt die Autorin den Versuch, der traditionellen Auffassung auf den Grund zu gehen, daß es im Bulgarischen eine morphologische Kategorie mit der Bedeutung 'Wiedergabe fremder Rede', genannt Renarrativ, gibt. Die Analyse der Formativ-Bedeutung-Beziehung hat allerdings ergeben, daß weder das vorgegebene Paradigma diese Bedeutung aufweist noch der Ausdruck des entsprechenden Konzeptes die Anwendung der Formen notwendig macht, sondern die Explikation der Bedeutung 'Renarrativ' wie auch die des sog. Admirativs u.a.m. erst auf der Äußerungsebene erfolgt. Bei den zur Diskussion stehenden Formen handelt es sich um einen Baustein neben anderen, der die semantische Invariante 'Zustandskonstatierung' zum Inhalt hat und als Perfekt- bzw. Plusquamperfekt(variante) in der morphologischen Kategorie 'Tempus' aufgeht. Außer der Diskussion des Terminus 'Modus' wird die Herkunft dieser Ausdrucksweise sowie die Stellung des Bulgarischen aus typologischer Sicht ausführlich beleuchtet.

    Description: This chapter makes an empirical contribution by studying whether the launch of BRI has led to a shift in Central Asian attitudes towards and perceptions of China. We discuss the interaction between China and each of the five Central Asian states, highlighting local attitudes towards and perceptions of the big neighbour. We focus on economic interaction, infrastructure and education initiatives as they are among the main pillars of the BRI agenda, while acknowledging that cooperation on political, diplomatic, and security issues has been no less important for shaping perceptions of China in Central Asia. One limitation of our analysis should be mentioned. It is difficult to separate BRI analytically from other ongoing projects within the bilateral cooperation between China and the Central Asian countries, “as many bilateral agreements are now being brought under the Silk Road and BRI umbrella” (Dave 2018, p. 100). We attempt to overcome this limitation by tracing changes in attitudes towards and perception of China in general since 2013, when BRI was announced, and whether the change can be attributed to the promotion of BRI.

    Description: The aim of the research is to demonstrate, using the example of the field of semantics, that the political lexicism of the Russian language of the twentieth century, despite its variability, forms a historical and supra-ideological unity, which continues to be closely linked to the lexicon of a general discourse. The following questions set the framework for the analysis: 1) How uniform and complex is the system of meanings in the political lexic of the Russian language in the twentieth century; 2) how continuous has the semantic development of this vocabulary area been; 3) what general regularities has the development process followed; 4) how does the political lexicon relate to the overall lexical-semantic system of the Russian language or to the overall system of international political lexicism?
    Description: Ziel der Forschungsarbeit ist es, am Beispiel des Bereiches der Semantik nachzuweisen, daß die politische Lexik der russischen Sprache des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts trotz ihrer Variabilität eine historische und überideologische Einheit bildet, die weiterhin eng verbunden ist mit der Lexik eines übereinzelsprachlichen Gesamtdiskurses. Folgende Fragen geben der Analyse den Rahmen vor: 1) Wie einheitlich und komplex ist das System der Bedeutungen in der politischen Lexik der russischen Sprache im zwanzigsten Jahrhundert; 2) wie kontinuierlich ist die semantische Entwicklung dieses Wortschatzbereiches verlaufen; 3) welchen allgemeinen Regularitäten ist der Entwicklungsprozeß gefolgt; 4) in welchem Verhältnis steht die politische Lexik zum lexikalisch-semantischen Gesamtsystem der russischen Sprache bzw. zum Gesamtsystem der internationalen politischen Lexik.

    Description: This book is a collection of contributions to a symposium which was organized by the Southeast Europe Association (Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft) on the topic "Women in the Balkans/Southeastern Europe" and held on 3rd and 4th November 2014 in Munich. It reflects on the present situation of women in the Balkans/Southeast Europe which has experienced fundamental changes since the end of the communist/socialist regime and the transition towards a market oriented economy as well as the wars in former Yugoslavia. These fundamental changes and war time experiences have not only implicated disorders in political and social status, but also a backlash in terms of return to patriarchal values as well as to traditional gender relations and hierarchies. A perception of gender roles following traditional patterns and a concept of femininity reducing women to their bodies, open sexism in media, the so called "sex industry" and "women markets" plus the ban of abortion, increased domestic violence and trafficking in women have been combined with neoliberal values, right ideology, neo-patriarchy and the ruling concept of masculinity. On the other hand, women have also used their chance to create their own business, not to forget female subcultures. Women`s participation in decision-making, especially in political parties, and their representation in the public scenery is an important indicator for the degree of their emancipation. Bringing together women engaged on women`s issues in different areas - from the academia, the Non-Governmental Organisations and civil society, and policy makers - is bound to result in a variety of perspectives and views.

Bondarko is based, which is undoubtedly suitable, with particular attention to the grammatical categories, but also the relevant factual links (i.e., morphological and syntactic categories) to prepare the material for the acquisition of the foreign language Russian onomasiologisch. Such an approach, an essential component of a so-called active grammar, is needed to complement the semasiological approach, which is still often in the foreground.
    Description: Die Bedeutung des Lehrwerkes liegt darin, daß es auf einem ausgereiften theoretischen Ansatz, der " Petersburger" funktionalen Grammatik, die maßgeblich mit dem Namen von A.V. Daily life and work no longer take place primarily in a local and national context, but increasingly in a European and transnational frame – a process of ‘horizontal Europeanisation’ which, while increasing the life chances of European citizens, also brings about conflicts among them.     Description: Questions are communicatively on an equal footing with statements. However, while the greatest number of syntactic studies deal with formal and functional aspects of declarative sentences, so far only a handful of Slavic works have been devoted to the structural features of interrogative sentences in Slavic languages. The present work shows that - contrary to the first impression - there are many relevant subtle differences in the syntax and use of supplementary questions in Slavic languages, which have to be integrated into a theory of questioning. For reviewing generalizations that v. a. Developed in formal syntax descriptions, the author uses data from extensive corpora and individual interviews as well as collected acceptability judgments from controlled experimental studies. Specifically, the work deals with Russian, Polish and Czech with the position of question expressions in simple supplementary questions, the possibilities of sentence entanglement and the syntax of questions with multiple question expressions. In addition to the surface form, the contextual and communicative function of the structure types is also taken into account.
    Description: Fragen stehen kommunikativ gleichberechtigt neben Aussagen. Während sich aber die größte Zahl syntaktischer Studien mit formalen und funktionalen Aspekten von Deklarativsätzen beschäftigt, wurden bisher nur wenige slavistische Arbeiten den strukturellen Merkmalen von Fragesätzen in slavischen Sprachen gewidmet. Die vorliegende Arbeit zeigt, daß - entgegen dem ersten Eindruck - viele relevante einzelsprachliche Feinunterschiede in der Syntax und Verwendung von Ergänzungsfragen in slavischen Sprachen auftreten, die in eine Theorie der Fragesatzbildung integriert werden müssen. Zur Überprüfung von Generalisierungen, die v. a. in formalen Syntaxbeschreibungen entwickelt wurden, zieht der Autor Daten aus umfangreichen Korpora und Einzelbefragungen sowie erhobene Akzeptabilitätsurteile aus kontrollierten experimentellen Studien heran. Im Einzelnen befaßt sich die Arbeit anhand des Russischen, Polnischen und Tschechischen mit der Position von Frageausdrücken in einfachen Ergänzungsfragen, den Möglichkeiten der Satzverschränkung und der Syntax von Fragen mit mehreren Frageausdrücken. Neben der Oberflächenform wird auch die kontextuelle und kommunikative Funktion der Strukturtypen berücksichtigt.

Another question is, how did he, when he created one, come to his Slovenian written language?

    Description: In this chapter, I explore the regulation of alternative and traditional medicine, in order to reflect on how particular temporalities shape, and are shaped by, the interface between law and medicine. This chapter makes two key points: first, it argues that both biomedicine and law have relied on a particular sense of ‘modernity’ as a linear temporal process; in turn, this has been key in developing both crude, and more subtle, social patterns of power, dominance, and exclusion that continue to impact on contemporary societies. Second, it argues that as law increasingly engages in the regulation of other types of medicine, it continues to emulate biomedical models and assumptions as to what ‘modern medicine’ should look like, including its temporal features. This chapter is written as I am starting a large investigation of the multiple ways in which traditional and alternative medicines apprehend and are apprehended by law in several states in Europe and Africa.2 Although the project has several aims, my interest in the field came, in part, from the ambivalent and complex ways in which the idea of ‘modernity’ seemed to be shaping the field and, in turn, how law and medicine as institutions were involved in this ambivalence. It is useful, to ‘set the scene’ of this chapter, to return to this briefly.

    Description: The first level of the present work is methodologically concerned with the planned Prague corpus of spoken Czech. Spoken texts are recorded, fixed in writing and arranged according to linguistic and sociological criteria and evaluated. The goal is to sketch the current situation in spoken Czech from the recordings and thus to contribute to the above-mentioned discussion about the relationship between ST vs. ST. GT. The second level of this study complements the evaluation of the linguistic material. Sociological data collected by questionnaires and data provided by the same speakers in the field of ST: 1) knowledge (cognition); 2) degree of positive evaluation; 3) but above all the readiness (Konation) of the speaker for use of the ST examined. The attitude of the Czechs to their standard language, secondary to their Koine, is here in the foreground. This publication makes an important contribution to the intensified discussions about Standard Czech and Common Czech (Bohemian Koiné) since the political change in the Czech Republic.
    Description: Die erste Ebene der vorliegenden Arbeit tangiert in methodischer Hinsicht das geplante Prager Korpus des gesprochenen Tschechisch. Gesprochene Texte werden aufgenommen, schriftlich fixiert und nach sprachlichen und soziologischen Kriterien geordnet und ausgewertet. Das Ziel ist es, anhand der Aufnahmen die aktuelle Situation im gesprochenen Tschechisch zu skizzieren und somit einen Beitrag zur oben geschilderten Diskussion um das Verhältnis ST vs. GT zu leisten. Die zweite Ebene dieser Studie komplementiert die Auswertung des sprachlichen Materials. Mit per Fragebögen erhobenen soziologischen Daten und Angaben derselben Sprecher werden im Bereich des ST: 1) Kenntnisse (Kognition); 2) Grad der positiven Evaluation; 3) vor allem aber die Bereitschaft (Konation) der Sprecher zur Verwendung des ST untersucht. Die Einstellung der Tschechen zu ihrer Standardsprache, sekundär zu ihrer Koine, steht hier im Vordergrund. Diese Publikation leistet einen wichtigen Beitrag zu der seit der politischen Wende in Tschechien intensiviert geführten Diskussion um das Standardtschechische und Gemeintschechische (böhmische Koiné).

    Description: The subject of the present study is the word formation theory in one of the oldest grammars of the Russian language, the instruction in 1705-29 to learn the Slavonic-Russian language, "For the benefit, especially the Teutschen Nation, aufgesetze" by Johann Werner Pause. The "instruction" is a central text of the so-called "dolomonovskij period rusistiki", i. the leisure of grammatical codification of Russian before the appearance of the first Russian grammar printed for native speakers, the "Rossijskaja grammatika" (1755/57) M.V. Lomonosov.
    Description: Gegenstand der vorliegender Untersuchung ist die Wortbildungslehre in einer der ältesten Grammatiken der russischen Sprache, der in den Jahren 1705-29 entstandenen Anweisung zur Erlernung der Slavonisch-Russischen Sprache, "Zum Nutzen, sonderlich der Teutschen Nation, aufgesetze" von Johann Werner Pause. Bei der "Anweisung" handelt es sich um einen zentraler Text des sogenannten "dolomonovskij period rusistiki", d.h. der Freizeit der grammatischen Kodifikation des Russischen vor dem Erscheinen der ersten für Muttersprachler gedruckten Russische-Grammatik, der "Rossijskaja grammatika" (1755/57) M. V. Lomonosovs.
