Description: Parasites exhibit a range of life-history strategies that influence spatial and temporal disease dynamics, epidemiology development and, through this, the genetic diversity and spatial structure of their populations, and the evolutionary dynamics within populations. Parasites exhibit a range of life-history traits, including different life-cycle complexity, dispersal and survival strategies, transmission modes, and dispersal ability. These are important determinants of the frequency and predictability of interactions with host species. These determinants are also involved in the ability of parasites to adapt to varying ecological factors including changes in the abiotic environment, evolution of agrosystem characteristics, and direct or indirect competition with other co-occurrence parasites species. The aim of this Research Topic is to collect studies on plant pathogen life history traits and adaptation to environmental constraints.

Description: The current eBook collection includes substantial scientific work in describing how insect species are responding to abiotic factors and recent climatic trends on the basis of insect physiology and population dynamics. The contributions can be broadly split into four chapters: the first chapter focuses on the function of environmental and mostly temperature driven models, to identify the seasonal emergence and population dynamics of insects, including some important pests. The second chapter provides additional examples on how such models can be used to simulate the effect of climate change on insect phenology and population dynamics. The third chapter focuses on describing the effects of nutrition, gene expression and phototaxis in relation to insect demography, growth and development, whilst the fourth chapter provides a short description on the functioning of circadian systems as well as on the evolutionary dynamics of circadian clocks.

Description: Dataset: SAB CTD Profiles for STP, DO, pH
Description: Vertical profiles of depth, conductivity, salinity, temperature, pH, and dissolved O2 were measured on selected dates from 7 June 2018 to 10 August 2021 in nearshore shelf waters off Charleston, SC. The survey area was located in the region of 32° 42’ N, 79° 50’ W and 32° 51’ N, 79° 09’W. Profiles were obtained using a YSI 6820 sonde deployed by hand. These data were used to map the physical structure of the water column and assess inputs of groundwater effects on phytoplankton and benthic microalgae. Results may be of interest to others conducting research projects off Charleston, SC. Data were collected and interpreted by Jay Pinckney at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. For a complete list of measurements, refer to the full dataset description in the supplemental file 'Dataset_description.pdf'.
