    Description: Colombia ha enfrentado una historia de violencia y desigualdad, con líderes asesinados, masacres y abusos perpetrados por grupos paramilitares, guerrillas y fuerzas estatales. Un ejemplo reciente son las manifestaciones del paro nacional a finales de abril de 2021, surgidas por el aumento de impuestos de productos esenciales y que fueron marcadas por la brutal represión policial. La violencia y despojo de tierras han sido experiencias cotidianas en la vida de muchos colombianos, particularmente en las zonas rurales y empobrecidas. En este libro, Eduardo Restrepo argumenta que la desigualdad y violencia en Colombia están arraigadas en un orden moral jerarquizado que produce existencias »dispensables«, marcadas por el desprecio y la indiferencia. Aunque el análisis se centra en ese país, sugiere que esta dinámica también puede ser relevante en otros países de América Latina. Restrepo aboga por la importancia de un compromiso ético-político en la elaboración de narrativas más comprensivas sobre los problemas sociales y las luchas por el cambio.

    Description: En esta obra se aborda la situación de violencia y desigualdad que enfrentan los periodistas en América Latina, centrándose en el caso de México por ser este el país en donde se ha asesinado a un mayor número de comunicadores en los últimos 22 años. El enfoque se dirige hacia los periodistas de frontera, aquellos que trabajan en los márgenes físicos, políticos, económicos, culturales y tecnológicos de un territorio, y cuya condición no puede entenderse únicamente como un reflejo de lo que ocurre a nivel nacional o internacional, ya que presentan características propias y particularidades que los modelos existentes no logran explicar. Además, se explora el contexto histórico y político en el que los periodistas han ejercido su labor, incluyendo las transiciones democráticas y los regímenes autoritarios, y se destaca el impacto de la guerra contra el narcotráfico en la violencia ejercida hacia ellos en México. La autora enfatiza en la necesidad de adoptar nuevos marcos de análisis para comprender la situación de los periodistas de frontera, tomando en cuenta los márgenes del estado, la esfera pública a nivel microlocal y la capacidad que tienen para enfrentar las crisis.

Hace perceptibles las prolongaciones de silenciadas o legitimadas violencias políticas tanto en el individuo como en el tejido social trastornado por perturbadoras marcas que desbaratan la existencia y la convivencia. Las expresiones cinematográficas no hacen referencia al ayer únicamente, sino que, sobre todo, cuestionan las pautas convencionales empleadas para articular pasado, presente y futuro a fin de explorar horizontes posibles. Como detonadoras de memoria y generadoras de conciencia, robustecen diferentes modi memorandi que tratan el pasado violento demasiado activo aún.

    Description: La autoría en autobiografías escritas por personas de origen africano, esclavizadas en América durante los siglos XVIII y XIX, no es carente de conflictividad. Durante siglos el uso del Yo, como voz referencial de autor fue una entidad privilegiada mediante relatos impresos elaborados por los propios protagonistas mientras se daba por sentado que el resto de vidas solo merecían permanecer confinadas en ámbitos estrictamente privados por ser consideradas vacías, vulgares, irrelevantes, dignas de ínfima atención pública. Gerardo Cham aborda los casos de tres autores y a una autora, cuyas narrativas testimoniales tuvieron gran difusión desde que fueron escritas: Olaudah Equiano, Mary Prince, Juan Francisco Manzano y Mahomma Gardo Baquaqua.

With a creative and innovative perspective on »things we think we know«, Milan van Lange presents a computer-assisted historical investigation into the role of emotions in dealing with consequences of World War II in the Netherlands. By »emotion mining« digitised sources, van Lange shows where emotions were present and how they were expressed and discussed in the political engagement with people who experienced long-term effects of the war, such as former collaborators and war criminals, the resistance, and war victims.

    Description: Worin liegen die ästhetischen Eigenlogiken der Gattung des Genrebildes, also Darstellungen von Alltagsszenen mit anonymen und meist typisierten Figuren? Seit dem 16. Jahrhundert wurde diese Gattung in der Malerei populär. Sie erlangte ihr künstlerisches Profil in einem Prozess des Dialogs mit und der Abgrenzung von der Reproduktionsgraphik, der Historienmalerei sowie den anderen im Entstehen begriffenen Bildgattungen. Die Beiträger*innen bereichern die kunsthistorische Forschung zum europäischen Genrebild von der Frühen Neuzeit bis zur Moderne um ikonographische, rezeptionsästhetische und bildwissenschaftliche Aspekte. Dabei stellen sie insbesondere Bildphänomene und künstlerische Strategien der Temporalität, der Ambiguität und der Latenz als spezifische Dimensionen dieser Gattung ins Zentrum ihrer Analysen und liefern so eine Neuperspektivierung der Genremalerei.

Digital hate is ancient but novel, deploying the Internet to boost its allure and broaden its appeal. To understand the logic of hate, Luke Munn investigates four objects: 8chan, the cesspool of the Internet, QAnon, the popular meta-conspiracy, Parler, a social media site, and Gab, the »platform for the people.« Drawing together powerful human stories with insights from media studies, psychology, political science, and race and cultural studies, he portrays how digital hate infiltrates hearts and minds.

La región ha sido el principal blanco de sus impactos socioecológicos negativos, pero también el escenario de las fuerzas más poderosas de resistencia. El autor aborda tres dimensiones críticas de este proceso, incluyendo la nueva geoeconomía y geopolítica del capital, las resistencias en la frontera extractiva y las alternativas propuestas por los gobiernos formados en el »ciclo progresista« en la política, y construidos desde abajo por las comunidades indígenas y no indígenas en la frontera. Finalmente, cierra con una reflexión sobre la posibilidad de una transición postextractivista a un otro mundo de solidaridad social y armonía con la naturaleza, en condiciones de justicia social y ecológica.

    Description: Why did »equality« become prominent in European societies based on hierarchy during the Enlightenment? What does »equality« imply for societies, politics, or legal systems? The contributors to this volume draw on various historical case studies, from visionary practices in revolutionary France and the collection of data on the poor in 19th-century Germany, to claims raised under the minority regime of the League of Nations and the anti-discrimination politics of the UN and India. The dynamics of universalizing equality are contrasted with a concept asserting that equality must be limited to and by order. The contributions thus explore concepts of equality from the perspectives of history and law and show that practices of comparing were essential when it came to imagining others as equal, fighting discrimination, or scandalizing social inequalities.

    Description: Abordar la existencia de unas clases medias negras en Colombia no sólo es difícil sino un aparente contrasentido, un oxímoron, porque la gente negra es imaginada como inevitablemente pobre y de »clase baja«. Pero ¿acaso no existen otras experiencias de clase dentro de esta población? Para responder al vacío investigativo sobre este grupo social este libro examina la configuración de las clases medias negras desde finales de los años treinta del siglo xx, a partir de las historias de vida de miembros de tres generaciones de familias originarias de la región del Pacífico y el Caribe que se identifican como parte de esta clase. Esta indagación se hace desde una perspectiva interseccional, que asume que no se puede entender el funcionamiento de las relaciones de poder que dan forma a estas experiencias desde un solo marco explicativo (de clase, género o raza), y que para hacerlo se deben considerar sus mutuas interrelaciones y afectaciones.

In this book, Thomas Jurczyk conducts a diachronic comparison of the meaning and application of two notions and their related word fields that are commonly associated with a broader comparative notion of holy, namely the Ancient Armenian term »surb« and its related words and the English word field associated with »holy«. To compare these two semantic fields, his methodological approach operates on the principle of distributional semantics and applies, among others, tools and methods from the field of corpus linguistics.

Las redes prometen horizontalidad y participación, pero suelen generar movimientos de alta intensidad y corta duración. Esta crisis ecológica se ha visto ahondada con la profundización del modelo económico neoliberal y del neoextractivismo, el cual ha generado una disputa por los bienes comunes. Al mismo tiempo en distintos territorios de la región se están desarrollando alternativas agroecológicas, cooperativas, redes de economía solidaria, eco-tecnologías apropiadas y nuevas construcciones societales basadas en paradigmas como el buen vivir, que van sembrando esperanzas de evitar el colapso, bajo el desarrollo de sociedades en movimiento que reflexionan y actúan en defensa de la madre tierra.

Transition policies increasingly aim at promoting self-regulation and constructing employable subjects. Stephan Dahmen explores the practical regulation of biographical transitions in activation programs for the young unemployed by focusing on the interactive accomplishment of activation work. The study reveals how the critical tensions of activation policies are continually re-interpreted and adapted to local contingencies and describes the various organisational technologies used for creating employable subjects.

    Description: What distinguishes an adventure novel from a historical novel? Can the same text belong to several genres? More to one than to another? Have some existing genres been overlooked? To answer these and similar questions, José Calvo Tello combines methods from Linguistics (lexicography), Literary Studies (genre theory), and Computer Science (machine learning, natural language processing). Located in the interdisciplinary field of Digital Humanities, this study analyzes a newly developed corpus of 358 Spanish novels of the silver age (1880-1939), which includes authors like Baroja, Pardo Bazán, or Valle-Inclán. Calvo Tello's key result is a graph-based model of literary genre that reconciles recent theoretical approaches.

La relación entre las culturas populares y la cultura de masas ha cambiado radicalmente en este siglo, de un modo que los textos clásicos no podían prever. La cultura de masas se ha transformado en el gran organizador y jerarquizador cultural; pero las culturas populares siguen señalando en América Latina un exceso, algo que persiste fuera de lo mediático. Este ensayo toma inspiración de esa obra importante de Winter, rastreando lo que él llama las »visiones de transformación parcial«, que coexistían temporalmente con las grandes narrativas de transformación social, pero después perdieron su lugar propio en el record histórico. Trabajadores agrícolas en Chinandega, minifundistas en Morazán, y obreros fabriles en Montevideo, en medio de graves crisis sociales-económicas y políticas conquistaron espacios para defenderse, pero también de crear nuevas relaciones sociales y una experiencia de trabajo colectiva y libertadora.

    Description: En el contexto de la profunda crisis civilizatoria que vive la humanidad, se da igualmente una severa crisis de las izquierdas en diferentes partes del mundo. Las propuestas alternativas que fueron representadas por los denominados gobiernos progresistas en América Latina, en lo fundamental, fracasaron en términos de los objetivos que se transformadores que se propusieron. La incapacidad de la izquierda »oficial« para reflexionar crítica y autocríticamente sobre estas experiencias impide aprender de éstas, con lo cual no puede sino profundizarse la crisis de dicha izquierda como alternativa al capitalismo y, más ampliamente, a civilización en crisis.

    Description: El debate acerca de la Reforma Previsional, aprobada en diciembre de 2017, inicia la actual crisis política en la Argentina. El proceso parlamentario evidenció fuertes tensiones, que se acentuaron, pocos meses después, en torno al acuerdo con el Fondo Monetario Internacional. El texto aborda las posiciones en juego y su inscripción en formaciones discursivas antagónicas, a partir de los modos de referir al afuera del recinto, las memorias que se activan y la semiotización de las emociones. El texto puede interesar a analistas del discurso y a cientistas sociales interesados tanto por el despliegue discursivo de las representaciones como por la historia argentina reciente.
