Notes: Abstract Magnetization measurements on a ceramic YBaCuO sample were carried out. TheM(H, T) dependence has demonstrated some peculiarities which we assume are connected withH j1,H j2,H c1 fields. By analyzing the magnetization in the field region betweenH j1 andH j2 within the framework of the critical state model, one obtains the dependence of the intergranular critical current density on field and temperature.

Notes: Abstract Composites of Ag-YBa2Cu3O7−x were synthesized and carefully characterized for crystal structure and microstructure by X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, SEM, TEM, and EDAX techniques in order to investigate the effect of Ag additions on the superconducting properties of 123 compounds. The a.c. susceptibility data show thatT c (onset) of 123+Ag composites vary between 90.2 and 91.8 K. TheJ c values we measured for 123 material without silver were in the range of earlier reported values for the pure 123 material. Whereas there is a relatively small increase in the critical current for the YBCO/Ag2O ratio of 3, the variation of the grain size of the composites shows that theseJ c changes are due to slight variations in the grain size rather than any dramatic effect of Ag inclusions as speculated earlier.

Notes: Abstract Superconducting films of the high-T c compound Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+y , have been grown on (111)-oriented gadolinium gallium garnet substrates by a liquid-phase technique. The films show a very high degree of preferential orientation with thec-axis perpendicular to the substrates. The onset of the resistive transition was 85 K while zero resistance was obtained at 78 K. Results concerning the critical current properties of the films are described. Measurements of the paraconductivity effects on the electrical resistivity above the superconducting transition due to thermodynamic fluctuations are also reported.

Notes: Abstract Submicrometer epitaxial films of YBa2Cu3O7(YBCO) on (100) LaAlO3 were made by coevaporation and furnace annealing. Samples from more than a dozen runs are used in this study. The zero resistance transition temperature (T c) is high (89 or 90 K) if the film composition is phase pure (Ba/Y=2, Cu/Y=3) or if it is enriched in Ba and Cu. For these compositions the critical current density (J c) at 77 K has an average value of 2×105 A cm−2, with a tendency for decreasingJ c with increasing film thickness (0.2 to 0.8μm). Variations inJ c are not correlated with deviations from ideal stoichiometry. Steeper slopes of the resistance-temperature curves above 100 K and lower values of the room-temperature resistivity are associated with high values ofJ c. If the film composition is enriched in Y relative to Ba and Cu,T c decreases by several degrees.

Notes: Abstract Transport properties in pellets of YBCO and BISCO are studied before and after 6.5-MeV proton implantation. The average critical current was strongly enhanced but in one case also weakened, probably due to the unfavorable interaction with the pre-irradiation defect structure. Characteristic parameters are compared and discussed.

Notes: Abstract The critical currents and normal resistances of the small bridges from yttrium-based high-T c superconducting ceramics have been measured. The characteristic voltage of these bridges was found to be approximately 20 μV. This effect can be explained if, between the ceramic grains, there are contacts of an order of one crystalline cell in size.

Notes: Abstract The magnetic flux distribution from a transport superconducting current flowing through an YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) thin film bridge is observed using a ferrimagnetic garnet indicator with in-plane magnetic anisotropy. After switching off the current from the maximum value that provides the electrically detected critical regime, the expected remanent flux was not observed. The only place where the irreversible magnetization takes place is a linear defect that crosses the bridge and thus reduces the electrically measured critical current compared with the value that could be reached without macroscopic defects. The observed reversibility of the main part of the sample is explained on the basis of theoretical calculations of the current-induced flux penetration: Perceptible penetration and trapping of the flux might be observed only upon the application of a current higher than approximately half the maximum critical current that could be reached in such a thin film without macroscopic inhomogeneities.

Notes: Abstract Flux creep characteristics ofc-axis-oriented Bi2Sr2CaCu2O x thin films grown by the method of electron beam evaporation of stoichiometric target and subsequent annealing have been investigated in the absence of external magnetic field. A decrease of the pinning potential with decreasing temperature is obtained fromI–V curves. This result is explained by the presence of the spatially nonlinear pinning potential.
