Notes: Abstract In this paper, we introduce an analogue of the classical Yang-Baxter equation for general algebraic structures (including nonassociative algebras and vertex operator algebras). Moreover, we give several ways to construct solutions of the equation in case the algebraic structure is graded by an abelian group. In particular, we construct some unitary nondegenerate trignometric solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation for affine Lie algebras by means of our equation.

Notes: Abstract We first recall a canonical procedure for the construction of the invariant differential operators and equations for arbitrary complex or real noncompact semisimple Lie groups. Then we present the application of this procedure to the case of quantum groups. In detail is given the construction of representations of the quantum algebra U q (sl(n)) labelled by n−1 complex numbers and acting in the spaces of functions of n(n−1)/2 noncommuting variables, which generate a q-deformed SL(4) flag manifold. The conditions for reducibility of these representations and the procedure for the construction of the q-difference intertwining operators are given. Using these results for the case n=4 we propose infinite hierarchies of q-difference equations which are q-conformal invariant. The lowest member of one of these hierarchies are new q-Maxwell equations. We propose also new q-Minkowski spacetime which is part of a q-deformed SU(2,2) flag manifold.

Notes: Summary. The goal of this paper is to characterise certain probability laws on a class of quantum groups or braided groups that we will call nilpotent. First we introduce a braided analogue of the Heisenberg–Weyl group, which shall serve as standard example. We introduce Gaussian functionals on quantum groups or braided groups as functionals that satisfy an analogue of the Bernstein property, i.e. that the sum and difference of independent random variables are also independent. The corresponding functionals on the braided line, braided plane and a braided q-Heisenberg–Weyl group are determined. Section 5 deals with continuous convolution semigroups on nilpotent quantum groups and braided groups. We extend recent results proving the uniqueness of the embedding of an infinitely divisible probability law into a continuous convolution semigroup for simply connected nilpotent Lie groups to nilpotent quantum groups and braided groups. Finally, in Section 6 we give some indications how the semigroup approach of Heyer and Hazod to the Bernstein theorem on groups can be extended to quantum groups and braided groups.

Notes: Abstract We show that the algebra of the bicovariant differential calculus on a quantum group can be understood as a projection of the cross-product between a braided Hopf algebra and the quantum double of the quantum group. The resulting super-Hopf algebra can be reproduced by extending the exterior derivative to tensor products.

Notes: Abstract We calculate the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients of SUq(2) by a Woronowicz integration over the group manifold and obtain a representation differing from that reached by working with theq-group algebra. These apparently different results must agree, however, and their equivalence implies aq-identity. On lettingq = 1, we shall obtain two results of different structures for the Clebsch-Gordan coefficients of SU(2) and their equivalence similarly implies an identity among the usual binomial coefficients. With the same approach, one may extend the Woronowicz integral of the product of two irreducible representations to products of many irreducible representations.

Notes: Abstract Since general relativity may be regarded as a non-Abelian gauge theory obtained by gauging the Lorentz group, one may obtain its q-deformation by gauging the q-Lorentz group. The q-dependent action resulting from this construction describes interacting gravitational and spinor fields. This action is invariant under nonlocal q-transformations.

Notes: Abstract A quantum deformation of the Virasoro algebra is defined. The Kac determinants at arbitrary levels are conjectured. We construct a bosonic realization of the quantum deformed Virasoro algebra. Singular vectors are expressed by the Macdonald symmetric functions. This is proved by constructing screening currents acting on the bosonic Fock space.

Notes: Abstract Using the duality and the topological theory of well-behaved Hopf algebras, we construct star-product models of noncompact quantum groups from Drinfeld and Reshetikhin standard deformations of enveloping Hopf algebras of simple Lie algebras. Our star-products act not only on coefficient functions of finite-dimensional representations, but actually on allC ∞ functions, and they even exist for nonlinear (semi-simple) Lie groups.

Notes: Abstract New systems of Laplace (Casimir) operators for the orthogonal and symplectic Lie algebras are constructed. The operators are expressed in terms of paths in graphs related to matrices formed by the generators of these Lie algebras with the use of some properties of the noncommutative symmetric functions associated with a matrix. The decomposition of the Sklyanin determinant into a product of quasi-determinants play the main role in the construction. Analogous decomposition for the quantum determinant provides an alternative proof of the known construction for the Lie algebra gl(N).

Notes: Abstract By deforming the Hamiltonian of a spinless particle in a central potential we set up su q (2)-invariant Schrödinger equations within the usual framework of quantum mechanics. Different deformations correspond to a given Hamiltonian. We explicitly solve different stationary Schrödinger equations for the free particle and for the hydrogen atom, and compare the associated energy spectra.

Notes: Abstract The quantum commutationsRTT=TTR and the orthogonal (symplectic) conditions for the inhomogeneous multiparametricq-groups of theB n ,C n ,D n type are found in terms of theR-matrix ofB n+1 ,C n+1 ,D n+1 .A consistent Hopf structure on these inhomogeneousq-groups is constructed by means of a projection fromB n+1 ,C n+1 ,D n+1 .Real forms are discussed; in particular, we obtain theq-groups ISO q,r (n+1,n−1), including the quantum Poincaré group. The inhomogeneusq-groups do not contain dilatations when the parameters satisfy certain conditions. For example, we find a dilatation-freeq-Poincaré group depending on one real parameterq.

Notes: Abstract We study the possibility of defining the (braided) comultiplication for the GL q (N)-covariant differential complexes on some quantum spaces. We discover suchdifferential bialgebras (and Hopf algebras) on the bosonic and fermionic quantum hyperplanes (with additive coproduct) and on the braided matrix algebra BM q (N) with both multiplicative and additive coproducts. The latter case is related (forN = 2) to theq-Minkowski space andq-Poincaré algebra.

Notes: Abstract Multiparameter quantum gl(N) is not a rigid structure. This Letter defines an essential deformation as one that cannot be interpreted in terms of a similarity transformation, nor as a perturbation of the parameters. All the equivalence classes of first-order essential deformations are found, as well as a class of exact deformations. This work provides quantization of all the classical Lie bialgebra structures (constantr-matrices) found by Belavin and Drinfeld for sl(n). A special case, that requires the Hecke parameter to be a cubic root of unity, stands out.

A finite expression for the universal T-matrix, identified with the dual form and expressing the generalization of the exponential map of the classical groups, is obtained for Fun p,q (GL(1∣1)). In a representation with a colour index, the T-matrix assumes a form that satisfies a coloured graded Yang-Baxter equation.

The necessary and sufficient conditions for an irrep to be finite-dimensional are given.

Notes: Abstract A q-difference analog of the sixth Painlevé equation is presented. It arises as the condition for preserving the connection matrix of linear q-difference equations, in close analogy with the monodromy-preserving deformation of linear differential equations. The continuous limit and special solutions in terms of q-hypergeometric functions are also discussed.

Notes: Abstract By weakening the counit and antipode axioms of aC *-Hopf algebra and allowing for the coassociative coproduct to be nonunital, we obtain a quantum group, that we call aweak C *-Hopf algebra, which is sufficiently general to describe the symmetries of essentially arbitrary fusion rules. This amounts to generalizing the Baaj-Skandalis multiplicative unitaries to multipicative partial isometries. Every finite-dimensional weakC *-Hopf algebra has a dual which is again a weakC *-Hopf algebra. An explicit example is presented with Lee-Yang fusion rules. We briefly discuss applications to amalgamated crossed products, doubles, and quantum chains.

Notes: Abstract TheZ 2 graded Yangian Yq(gl(M |N)) associated with the Perk-SchultzR matrix is introduced. Its structural properties, the central algebra in particular, are studied. AZ 2-graded associative algebra epimorphism Yq(gl(M |N)) → Uq (gl(M |N)) is obtained in explicit form. Images of central elements of the quantum super-Yangian under this epimorphism yield the Casimir operators of the quantum supergroup Uq(gl(M |N)) constructed in an earlier publication.

Notes: Abstract Although there is no empirical motivation for replacing the commutators of dynamically conjugate operators in quantum mechanics byq-commutators, it appears possible to construct a consistent mathematical formulism based on this idea. To examine such a possibility further, we have studied the relation of this proposal to the Schwinger action principle, since the entire quantum mechanical formulism may be inferred from this principle. In particular, we have discussed the quantum transformation theory within this framework.

Notes: Abstract We show that the differential complex Ω B over the braided matrix algebra BM q (N) represents a covariant comodule with respect to the coaction of the Hopf algebra Ω A which is a differential extension of GL q (N). On the other hand, the algebra Ω A is a covariant braided comodule with respect to the coaction of the braided Hopf algebra Ω B . Geometrical aspects of these results are discussed.

Notes: Abstract We investigate the notion of secondR-quantization - a suitable deformation of the standard second quantization which properly takes into account the nontrivial exchange properties characterizing generalized statistics. We also perform theR-quantization of a class of unitary one-particle representations relevant for the description of symmetries. The Euclidean covariance of anyons is analyzed within this context.

Notes: Abstract The relation between the set of transformations $$\mathfrak{M}_q (2)$$ of the quantum plane and the quantum universal enveloping algebra U q (u(2)) is investigated by constructing representations of the factor algebra U q (u(2))* $$\mathfrak{u}(2))$$ . The noncommuting coordinates of $$\mathfrak{M}_q (2)$$ , on which U q (2) * U q (2) acts, are realized as q-spinors with respect to each U q (u(2)) algebra. The representation matrices of U q (2) are constructed as polynomials in these spinor components. This construction allows a derivation of the commutation relations of the noncommuting coordinates of $$\mathfrak{M}_q (2)$$ directly from properties of U q (u(2)). The generalization of these results to U q (u(n)) and $$\mathfrak{M}_q (n)$$ is also discussed.

Notes: Abstract Let $$\mathfrak{g}$$ be a finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra and Uq( $$\mathfrak{g}$$ ) the associated quantum group (q is a nonzero complex number which we assume is transcendental). IfV is a finitedimensional irreducible representation of Uq( $$\mathfrak{g}$$ ), an affinization ofV is an irreducible representationVV of the quantum affine algebra Uq( $$\hat {\mathfrak{g}}$$ ) which containsV with multiplicity one and is such that all other irreducible Uq( $$\mathfrak{g}$$ )-components ofV have highest weight strictly smaller than the highest weight λ ofV. There is a natural partial order on the set of Uq( $$\mathfrak{g}$$ ) classes of affinizations, and we look for the minimal one(s). In earlier papers, we showed that (i) if $$\mathfrak{g}$$ is of typeA, B, C, F orG, the minimal affinization is unique up to Uq( $$\mathfrak{g}$$ )-isomorphism; (ii) if $$\mathfrak{g}$$ is of typeD orE and λ is not orthogonal to the triple node of the Dynkin diagram of $$\mathfrak{g}$$ , there are either one or three minimal affinizations (depending on λ). In this paper, we show, in contrast to the regular case, that if Uq( $$\mathfrak{g}$$ ) is of typeD 4 and λ is orthogonal to the triple node, the number of minimal affinizations has no upper bound independent of λ. As a by-product of our methods, we disprove a conjecture according to which, if $$\mathfrak{g}$$ is of typeA n,every affinization is isomorphic to a tensor product of representations of Uq( $$\hat {\mathfrak{g}}$$ ) which are irreducible under Uq( $$\mathfrak{g}$$ ) (in an earlier paper, we proved this conjecture whenn=1).

Notes: Abstract Exponential solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation give rise to generalized Schubert polynomials and corresponding symmetric functions. We provide several descriptions of the local stationary algebra defined by this equation. This allows us to construct various exponential solutions of the YBE. The B n and G 2 cases are also treated.

Notes: Abstract The gauging of free differential algebras (FDA's) produces gauge field theories containing antisymmetric tensors. The FDA's extend the Cartan-Maurer equations of ordinary Lie algebras by incorporating p-form potentials (p〉1). We study here the algebra of FDA transformations. To every p-form in the FDA, we associate an extended Lie derivative l generating a corresponding ‘gauge’ transformation. The field theory based on the FDA is invariant under these new transformations. This gives geometrical meaning to the antisymmetric tensors. The algebra of Lie derivatives is shown to close and provides the dual formulation of FDA's.

Notes: Abstract The finite-dimensional irreducible representations of the Yangian of sl2 are parametrized by their highest weights, which are monic polynomials in one variable. In this paper, we give a formula for the character of such a representation which depends only on its highest weight, and is an analogue of the classical Weyl character formula.

Notes: Abstract To a given coherent family of virtual representations of a complex semiesimple Lie algebra we associate elsewhere a coherent family of virtual representations of the corresponding quantum group at roots of unity. We also proposed a conjecture there that under some hyptoheses the members of the family in a certain positive cone are actually modules (and not just a virtual module, i.e., a difference of two modules). The validity of this conjecture for A 2 and B 2 has been verified by the author. In this paper we solve the problem for A 3.

Notes: Abstract This paper is a survey on classical Heisenberg groups and algebras, q-deformed Heisenberg algebras, q-oscillator algebras, their representations and applications. Describing them, we tried, for the reader's convenience, to explain where the q-deformed case is close to the classical one, and where there are principal differences. Different realizations of classical Heisenberg groups, their geometrical aspects, and their representations are given. Moreover, relations of Heisenberg groups to other linear groups are described. Intertwining operators for different (Schrödinger, Fock, compact) realizations of unitary irreducible representations of Heisenberg groups are given in explicit form. Classification of irreducible representations and representations of the q-oscillator algebra is derived for the cases when q is not a root of unity and when q is a root of unity. The Fock representation of the q-oscillator algebra is studied in detail. In particular, q-coherent states are described. Spectral properties of some operators of the Fock representations of q-oscillator algebras are given. Some of applications of Heisenberg groups and algebras, q-Heisenberg algebras and q-oscillator algebras are briefly described.
