Notes: Abstract The Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ system samples doped with Sn on Cu sites were synthesized. Resistivity temperature dependence, X-ray powder diffraction and photoemission experiments have been performed. Suppression of superconductivity in the Sn-doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ system has been observed. X-ray photoemission measurements show that Sn ion enters the lattice. Our results reveal that Sn ions are mostly in bivalent states.

Notes: Abstract It is well established that for an alkali-doped C60 sample to be superconducting, the oxidation state C 3− 60 must be satisfied. It has been found previously that T c is proportional to crystal parameter a in a face-centered cubic (fcc) structure. It is thus desirable to intercalate the largest possible size of molecule that can contribute one electron into every interstitial space. The successful process of such doping depends on our understanding the interaction among the dopants and C60. We introduce a fabrication scheme of three steps successive doping using alkali (A) and halogen (H) elements along this line. While A 3C60 is superconducting, A 3−x (AH) x C60 was found to be non-superconducting in the second step and the sample became superconducting again after doping with A′, leading to stoichiometric ratio of A 3−x (AH) x A′ x C60. We present an explanation based on interaction among dopants and C60 and analyze the process of ionization of dopants, which is consistent with our experimental finding reported here.

Notes: Abstract The Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ system samples doped with Pr on Ca sites were synthesized. Resistivity temperature dependence, X-ray powder diffraction, and photoemission experiments have been performed. Both X-ray diffraction and photoemission measurements show that Pr ion enters the lattice with a valence higher than 3+, which supports the hole-filling mechanism of the suppression of superconductivity.

Notes: Abstract The temperature dependence of the relaxation rate of crystal-field excitations in the high-T c superconductors HoBa2Cu4O8 and HoBa2Cu3O x (6.4 〈 x 〈 7) was investigated by inelastic neutron scattering techniques. The data show clear evidence for the opening of an electronic gap in the normal state at T* 〉 T c in the underdoped regime as well as for slightly overdoped samples. For HoBa2Cu4O8 T* increases from 170 to 220 K upon oxygen isotope substitution (16O vs 18O). This huge isotope shift (which is absent in NMR and NQR experiments) suggests that the mechanism leading to an isotope effect on the pseudogap has to involve a time scale in the range 10−8 ≫ τ 〉 10−13 s.

Notes: Abstract We measure the real and imaginary parts of the ac magnetic permeability of YBa2Cu3O7−δA x (A = Cl, F, H) ceramics and powders as functions of temperature and ac magnetic field amplitude H 0, applying uncommonly low and widely ranged excitation fields (1 mOe ≤ Ho ≤ 200 Oe). We determine the temperature dependence of two loss peaks, H p(T) ∼ (T c − T)2.7 at low fields in ceramics and H m(T) ∼ T s0 − T at higher fields in both powders and ceramics. The extrapolated field H p(0) and characteristic temperature T c depend on x and δ, whereas H m(0) and T s0 depend mainly on δ. The real part of the permeability indicates a two-step flux-penetration process with two threshold fields for flux penetration. The latter govern the temperature dependence of maxima in the imaginary part as well as the peaks' widths. We propose a field-dependent percolation description of this process, derived from a previous temperature-dependent percolation model. It involves two penetration depths, the classic Ginzburg–Landau one and a low-field abnormally large penetration depth due to chemical disorder. Correspondingly, two types of vortices describe high- and low-field dissipation peaks.

Notes: Abstract The electronic structure of Sr-doped La2CuO4 has been investigated by means of cluster calculations. The results indicate changes in the energies of the molecular orbitals when a copper atom is in the neighborhood of a Sr; in particular, the spin-orbit coupling is altered. It is shown that the Cu nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time depends crucially on this coupling when measured along the direction perpendicular to the CuO2 planes. It is argued that the results presented here are compatible with recent experimental observations.

Notes: Abstract We summarize some of the main results on photoemission spectroscopy in the field of high-T c superconductivity, beginning with a discussion of several open questions. We then briefly analyze our experiments that illustrate the role of doping and of intentionally introduced disorder (by electron bombardment) in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x single crystals.

Notes: Abstract Persistent photoconductivity is an interesting and unusual property of high temperature superconductors. Illumination of these compounds can lead to a change in doping that is persistent at low temperature and relaxes back to its initial value at elevated temperatures. This photodoping can give rise to an improvement of superconducting properties, which is contrary to the illumination effects in conventional superconductors. Furthermore, these photo-induced effects can also be used to probe and modify the properties of grain boundaries in grain boundary Josephson junctions. This paper reviews the experimental data and proposed theoretical models related to these photoinduced effects.

Notes: Abstract The Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ system samples doped with Pr on Ca sites were synthesized. Resistivity measurements, x-ray powder diffraction, and photoemission experiments were performed. The experiment results show that Pr ions entered the lattice and chemical environment plays a major role in the shift of core-level spectra and valence-band spectra.
