    Ctenochaetus marginatus (Valenciennes) (Pisces: Acanthuridae) en la Isla de Gorgona: Primer registro del género para el Pacífico colombiano (2010)

    Description: The genus Ctenochaetus is reportad in the waters of the Colombian Pacific based on two specimens of C. marginatus (Valenciennes) collected in 1993 at Gorgona Island (2°59' N, 78° 12' W). These specimens differ inseveral morphometric characteristics from thosepreviously examined. Such differences appear to be an artifact of the small number of specimens formerly examined and the consequent narrow ranges reportad. We suggest that temperature variability affects the distribution of C. marginatus in the tropical eastern Pacific.
    Description: El género es Ctenochaetus reportad en las aguas del Pacífico colombiano a partir de dos especímenes de C. marginatus (Valenciennes) recogidos en 1993 en la Isla Gorgona (2 ° 59 'N, 78 ° 12' W). Estos ejemplares difieren inseveral características morfométricas de thosepreviously examinados. Estas diferencias parecen ser un artefacto del pequeño número de muestras examinadas anteriormente y reportad los rangos estrechos consecuente. Sugerimos que la variabilidad de la temperatura afecta la distribución de marginatus C en el Pacífico tropical oriental.

    Description: Se lista un total de 81 especies de peces del orden Anguilliformes conocidas de la costa norte colombo-venezolana, 66 de ellas de la plataforma continental. Se destacan los registros de Anguilla rostrata (Lesueur) y Echiophis punctifer(Kaup), que son nuevos para el Caribe colombiano.

    Description: Se registra por primera vez el cangrejo gecarcínido Gecarcinus (Johngarthia) planatus para la Isla de Gorgona, extendiendo su rango de distribución en más de 3.200 Km. Se discute brevemente su zoogeografía y el papel de las corrientes como posible mecanismo de dispersión.
    Description: The gecarcinid crab Gecarcinus (Johngarthia) planatus is reponed for the first time for Gorgona Island, extending its distributional range more ritan 3,200 km to the south. The zoogeography of the crab and the role of the California Current and the Ecuatorial Countercurrent in its distribution are discussed briefly.

    Description: El presente trabajo contiene una lista de las especies de Majidae colectadas en la bahía de Piscadera al Sur de Curasao. De las 16 especies encontradas solo una (Stenorhynchus seticornis) había sido reportada para esta Bahía, según los trabajos de Rathbun, (1924, 1925). De estas especies cinco no se habían mencionado en trabajos anteriores para Curacao.
    Description: The present paper contains a list of 16 species of spider crabs (Majidae: Brachyura) that were collected at Piscadera Bay, Curacao, Only one of the species (Stenorhynchus seticornis) had previously been reported frora this place (Rathbun, 1925). Five of the species reportedherein appear to be new for Curacao.

    Description: Une espèce de Céphalopode a été identifiée pour la première fois dans les eaux tunisiennes; il s'agit de Ocythoe tuberculata Rafinesque, 1814, un octopode pélagique peu fréquent en Méditerranée et capturé dans la région nord de Tunisie. Le spécimen, de taille de 31.5cm, est parmi les plus grandes femelles mentionnées de l'espèce dans la littérature.
    Description: تمّ التّعرّف لأوّل مرّة بشمال المياه التّونسيّة على صنف من الرّأسيّات الأرجل لم نعهده من قبل على سواحلنا وهو الأخطبوطOcythoe tuberculata Rafinesque, 1814 من الأصناف العائمة والنّادرة بالبحر المتوسّط؛ واستنادا على المراجع، فالحيوان المتعرّف عليه والبالغ من الطول 31.5 صم، يعتبر من أكبر الإناث حجما لهذا الصنف.
    Description: A species of Cephalopod has been identified for the first time in the north of Tunisian waters; it is about Ocythoe tuberculata Rafinesque, 1814, an uncommon pelagic octopus in the Mediterranean. The animal of 31.5 cm length mantle is among the biggest female reported from the species.

    Description: Se efectúa una revisión de los cinco volúmenes de la FAO sobre peces comerciales del Atlántico centro-occidental, confirmándose la presencia en el sur del Caribe de 39 especies que no son registradas de esta zona o cuyo rango de distribución no incluye ciertas áreas donde han sido encontradas. Seis de éstas son citadas por primera vez para el Caribe colombiano.
    Description: FAG's five volumcs on the commercial fishes of the western central Atlantic are reviewed. The existence of 39 species not reported from certain areas of the southern Caribbean is confirmed in this paper. Six of these are reported for the first time from the Colombian Caribbean.

    Description: El presente artículo da una descripción detallada de la elaboración y del "curado" de cuerdas de curricán, utilizadas anteriormente para la pesca en Taganga, un pueblo pescador en la costa norte de Colombia. Antes del "curado", estas cuerdas de fibras de algodón y de fabricación industrial, eran o destorcidas o torcidas a mano nuevamente, o tensionadas y envueltas con una cuerda más delgada del mismo material. El "curado" que siguió a estas operaciones se efectuó tanto en una cocción de corteza de las raíces zanconas de mangle, y/o por medio de un frote de estas cuerdas con los hypocotylos del mismo árbol (Rhizophora manglr). Por medio de las técnicas aquí descritas, los pescadores aspiraban a aumentar la resistencia de sus aparejos de pesca en el agua de mar.
    Description: The present paper gives a detailed description of the elaboration and curing of curricán Unes, formerly used as fishing lines in Taganga, a small fishing village on the northem coast of Colombia. These lines, made of cotton fibers and produced industrially, were disassembled and then retwisted by hand, or tightened and then carefully covered with a thinner string of the same material. The curing {"curado") that followed these operations was achieved by immersion of the lines into a boiled infusión of the bark of the prop roots of mangroves (Rhizophora mangle) and/or a rinsing with the hypocotyls of the same trees. By means of the techniques mentioned, the fishermen sought to improve the resistance of their fishing gear to sea water.
