Description: In this paper, we investigate the multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problem based on the arithmetic and geometric aggregation operators with hesitant fuzzy linguistic information. Then, motivated by the ideal of traditional arithmetic and geometric operation, we have developed some aggregation operators for aggregating hesitant fuzzy linguistic information: hesitant fuzzy linguistic arithmetic aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic geometric aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic correlated aggregation operators, induced hesitant fuzzy linguistic aggregation operators, induced hesitant fuzzy linguistic correlated aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic prioritized aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic power aggregation operators. Then, we have utilized these operators to develop some approaches to solve the hesitant fuzzy linguistic multiple attribute decision making problems. Finally, a practical example is given to verify the developed approach. Description: In a process using monitoring with p-control charts or np-control charts, due to the uncertainty of the attribute data, traditional control charts may be insufficient. In this case, fuzzy control charts are pertinent control techniques used to capture vagueness. Many studies in the literature are configured with transformation techniques at the decision stage, and in this study, fuzzy control charts are constructed using rules. Therefore, fully fuzzy control charts are first introduced for fuzzy [( p )\tilde]-control charts based on constant sample size and variable sample size, and fuzzy n [( p )\tilde]-control charts are subsequently introduced using decision rules for the process state conditions. Therefore, “rather in control” and “rather out of control” decisions can be considered in monitoring of the process. Description: As generalize of the hesitant fuzzy sets, hesitant interval-valued fuzzy sets (HIVFSs), which permits the memberships of an element to a given set having a few different interval values in [0,1] rather than real numbers, can be considered as a powerful tool to express uncertain information in the human decision making process. Based on the traditional Hamming distance, Euclidean distance, Hausdorff distance, and generalized distance, in this paper, we propose a variety of distance measures for hesitant interval-valued fuzzy sets, based on which the corresponding similarity measures can be obtained. We investigate the connections of the aforementioned distance measures and further develop a number of hesitant interval-valued ordered weighted distance measures and hesitant interval-valued ordered weighted similarity measures. They can alleviate the influence of unduly large (or small) deviations on the aggregation results by assigning them low (or high) weights. Finally, we shall present a numerical example to show potential evaluation of emerging technology commercialization with hesitant interval-valued fuzzy information in order to illustrate the method proposed in this paper. Description: Optimal capacitor placement problem is a significant and precious strategy which can be supposed as an always appropriate solution to reduce the operating costs in the power systems. Nevertheless, as the result of nonlinear and discrete characteristics of this problem, traditional optimization methods can not solve it effectively. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel optimization framework based on shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA) to solve the optimal capacitor placement and sizing problem properly. In this regard, a new modification approach based on the mutation and crossover operators is suggested to improve the local search ability of this algorithm. The effectiveness and satisfying performance of the proposed method is assessed on two IEEE test systems. Comparative results sow the superiority of the proposed optimization method than the other popular methods in the area. Description: This paper considers supply chain models with a manufacturer acting as the leader and two competitive retailers acting as followers under a fuzzy decision environment. The parameters of demand function and manufacturing cost are treated as the triangular fuzzy variables. Two retailers are assumed to pursue two kinds of competitive behavior: Cournot and Stackelberg. For each case, optimum policy of the expected value and two chance-constrained programming models are derived. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the results of proposed models. It is shown that in fuzzy models, the different competitive behaviors of two retailers do not affect the optimal pricing strategies of the manufacturer, and the confidence level of the profits for supply chain members affects the optimal sale price, wholesale price and profits. Description: Today, preference relations are among the most common types of expressing decision maker's preference information found in uncertainty research. Intuitionistic multiplicative preference relation can reflect our intuition more objectively and it was proposed by Xia et al. [20] recently. In this article, we first develop some aggregation operators for intuitionistic multiplicative numbers, such as the intuitionistic multiplicative weighted averaging operator and intuitionistic multiplicative ordered weighted averaging operator. Their desirable properties are also investigated in detail. Furthermore, based on the proposed aggregation operators, we further introduce a group decision making method based on intuitionistic multiplicative preference relations. Finally, a real example about personnel selection is given to illustrate the effectiveness of our method, the numeric comparison between our group decision making method and the ones of Xia et al. [20] are also provided. Description: Artificial life uses biological knowledge and techniques to solve different engineering, management, control and computational problems. Natural systems teach us that very simple individual organisms can form systems capable of performing highly complex tasks by dynamically interacting with each other. In this study, artificial life based approaches are handled and incorporated to enable a real-time water level control. The process was first modelled using NARX type Artificial Neural Network. A fuzzy controller was then attached to the model. For a better performance, fuzzy controller membership function boundary values and action values were optimized simultaneously. The optimization process was performed using genetic algorithm and ant colony optimization algorithm, respectively. Finally, the performance of the controllers was discussed further by considering the system outputs. The developed structure replaces the tedious process of trial-and-error for better combination of fuzzy parameters and can settle the problem of designing fuzzy controller without an expert's experience. Description: In this paper, we first introduce some operations on interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets, such as Einstein sum, Einstein product, Einstein exponentiation, etc., and further develop the induced interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted average (I-IVIFEOWA) operator. We also establish some desirable properties of this operator, such as commutativity, idempotency and monotonicity. Then, we apply the induced interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted average(I-IVIFEOWA) operator based on the data mining to deal with multiple attribute decision making under interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy environments. Finally, an illustrative example about selecting an ERP system is given to verify the developed approach and to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness. Description: Ant colony optimization (ACO) inspires the foraging manner of real ants in digital habitat is a developed meta-heuristic algorithm in medical image processing. Magnetic resonance (MR) images usually contain irregular and complex structures. Applying ACO, the spatial information is exploited in image processing; however, ACO requires a supervisor to define reference food. Fuzzy c-means (FCM) is an unsupervised clustering algorithm used in medical image processing. Standard FCM seldom incorporates spatial information in image segmentation. This paper presents an Unsupervised ACO (UACO) developed by FCM which utilizes the benefits of two algorithms and overlaps their defects. UACO is unsupervised like FCM and incorporates spatial information the same way as ACO. Besides, elapsed time to define food source by FCM in UACO is less than that of an operator in ACO. Adding that, another novelty of the paper is to effectively update pheromone fields. Utilizing a Gaussian spatial function, proposed approach handles noise effects properly, and exploits spatial neighborhood information efficiently in image segmentation. Experimental results show that proposed hybrid UACO by the Gaussian spatial function preserves details of image and is less sensitive to noise. Description: This paper reviews some basic properties of fuzzy, rough and soft sets, and compares soft sets to the related concepts of fuzzy and rough sets. The definitions of soft set intersection and union are revised. The two are based on the Cartesian product of the sets of parameters. It illustrates that one could obtain other specific union and intersection by using some cutting operations to the Cartesian product. The definition of soft set complement is also revised. One is taken by a collection of sets instead of the previous rigid complement. By means of soft mapping proposed by Molodtsov, both fuzzy set and rough set may be considered as a special soft set with specific parameters and set-valued mapping. And then the basic operations of fuzzy and rough sets are reconsidered in the framework of soft sets. With the new insight into soft sets, their connections and differences between soft sets and fuzzy sets, soft sets and rough sets, are discussed. Description: Throughout the paper it is shown that the classical definition of a fuzzy subset carries additional structures. The concept of a fuzzy subset is regarded from an alternative point of view: namely, the characteristic function of a fuzzy subset may be reinterpreted in terms of a Sincov's functional equation in two variables. Since the solutions of a Sincov's functional equation are also closely related to the existence of representable total preorders, an special attention is paid to the relationship between fuzzy subsets and total preorders defined on a universe. Some possible applications of this approach are pointed out in the final section of the manuscript. Description: This paper presents a hierarchical interactive particle swarm optimization (HIPSO) for solving the static multi objective optimal power flow (OPF) considering multi SVC controllers and dynamic economic dispatch (DED). This study introduces a variant of PSO using new mechanism search based dynamic adjustment of PSO parameters coordinated with a hierarchical strategy for reactive power planning stage to improve the performances of the original PSO in terms of solution quality and convergence characteristics. The HIPSO algorithm optimizes a combined control variables such as: active power generations, voltage control of generators, tap transformer and the reactive power of multi SVC Controllers installed at a specified buses to minimize fuel cost, total power loss and voltage deviation while satisfying the generators constraints and power system security. The proposed approach examined and applied to many practical test systems: IEEE 57-Bus, IEEE 118-Bus, 40 generating units and 10 generating units to solving; the static multi objective OPF with quadratic fuel cost function, the economic dispatch considering valve point effects and the dynamic economic dispatch considering both valve point effects and ramp rate limits. Simulation results compared to Matpower, to the standard PSO and others recent metaheuristic methods confirm the effectiveness of the proposed combined approach. Description: We study the asymptotic behavior of the Schrödinger equation in the presence of a nonlinearity of Hartree type in the semi-classical regime. Our scaling corresponds to a weakly nonlinear regime where the nonlinearity affects the leading order amplitude of the solution without altering the rapid oscillations. We show the validity of the WKB-analysis when the potential in the nonlinearity is singular around the origin. No new resonant wave is created in our model, this phenomenon is inhibited due to the nonlinearity. The nonlocal nature of this latter leads us to build our result on a high-frequency averaging effects. In the proof we make use of the Wiener algebra and the space of square-integrable functions. Description: The presence of small inclusions or of a surface defect modifies the solution of the Laplace equation posed in a reference domain Ω 0 . If the characteristic size of the perturbation is small, then one can expect that the solution of the problem posed on the perturbed geometry is close to the solution of the reference shape. Asymptotic expansion with respect to that small parameter – the characteristic size of the perturbation – can then be performed. We consider in the present work the case of two circular defects with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions in a bidimensional domain, we distinguish the cases where the distance between the object is of order 1 and the case where it is larger than the characteristic size of the defects but small with respect to the size of the domain. In both cases, we derive the complete expansion and provide some numerical illustrations. Content Type Journal Article Pages 197-227 DOI 10.3233/ASY-131174 Authors V. Description: In this article, our goal is to prove the existence and uniqueness of solution for 1D and 2D semi-linear hyperbolic equations in a bounded domain with a monotone nonlinear term. We use elliptic regularization and a finite difference scheme in time to build the approximate solutions for the semi-linear hyperbolic equations, and we utilize the regularization method together with the monotonicity and convexity of the nonlinear term to show the existence of the resulting stationary problems. Finally, the existence of the solution for the evolution problem is done by studying the convergence of the approximate solutions and by using the standard Minty method, and the uniqueness is achieved. Description: Interval type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2 FS) can provide us with more degrees of freedom to represent the uncertainty and the vagueness of the real world. In this paper, we investigate the fuzzy multi-attribute group decision making (FMAGDM) problems in which all the information provided by the decision makers (DMs) is expressed as IT2 FS, and the information about attribute weights is incomplete. We introduce the concepts of crisp possibility mean value and present a new method for calculating the possibility degree of two IT2 FS based on the interval-valued possibility mean values. Then, we propose a new method named maximizing deviations method for determine attribute weights information under interval type-2 fuzzy environment. Furthermore, we utilize the obtained attribute weights and the fuzzy possibility degree to fuse the IT2 fuzzy information in the collective IT2 fuzzy decision matrix to get the ranking values of all alternatives. A numerical example is given to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method. Description: Estimation of the Lyapunov Exponents of a chaotic dynamical system is highly dependent on the tools one may use. Function approximators such as artificial neural networks and polynomial based systems posses an approximation error which effectively impacts LEs precision. Thus, we look for an efficient tool in the approximation of partial derivatives of a function and the function is to be critical of importance. In this paper, the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System and its first order derivative are used to model the nonlinear behavior of the chaotic functions. The structures of the Neuro-Fuzzy system and its first-order derivative are constructed according to the training samples. Premise parameters and consequent parameters which have been initialized during a learning procedure are tuned by a deterministic chaotic-based genetic algorithm based on the Logistic map. Four non-linear chaotic dynamics are modeled with the proposed structure trained by the proposed chaotic genetic algorithm and the approximation capability of the proposed structure is studied. It has been shown that the chaotic behavior of the genetic algorithm enhances its capability in parameter tuning and structure optimization of a nonlinear network. Furthermore, the proposed method comprising the adaptive neuro-fuzzy network with its first order derivative is validated in modeling the chaotic behavior of four chaotic functions. Modeling error, optimization parameters and computation time are analyzed to verify the statements and presentations. Description: In general, weights of experts play a very important role in multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM), how to objectively determine experts' weights is an interesting research topic. Recently, many corresponding methods have been proposed to derive experts' weights, but none of them simultaneously capture the decision information from both the ranking and magnitude two aspects. This paper presents a novel approach for determining weights of experts in intuitionistic fuzzy group decision making based on consistency maximization by simultaneously considering the ranking and magnitude of decision information. The main contributions of this paper are threefold: (1) from the perspective of the ranking of decision information, the group ranking consistency (GRC) index is defined to measure the consistency between each individual decision and the ideal decision of group; (2) from the perspective of the magnitude of decision information, the group assessment consistency (GAC) index is also defined for measuring the consistency between each individual decision and the ideal decision of group; (3) a bi-objective linear programming model to determine the experts' weights is constructed on basis of the idea that the final results of MAGDM problem should be consistent and reflect the common will of the group to the greatest extent, which is solved by transforming into a parametric linear programming model using the weight average approach. Description: Biomass is an important primary source of renewable energy source. Producer gas, a derivative of Biomass, comprises of tar and particulate content which is harmful and critical parameter for IC engine application, which influences the design of filter. Numerous researchers have developed various types of filter for gas cleaning system in order to reduce the tar content and particulate in producer gas. In this work, an experimental investigation has been carried out on the newly developed hybrid compact filter using two different feeds such as rice husk and wood. The experimental results obtained were used to justify the newly developed system with adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS). The data has been collected taken from an experimental database of a 20 kW open core downdraft TNAU(Tamil Nadu Agricultural University)-modified gasifier with compact hybrid filter system. A comparison between the predictions of ANFIS model with other available model in literature is presented. The ANFIS results reveal that the model delivers the tar and particulate content with an accuracy of 99.98%. The test results prove the possibility to develop and evaluate an ANFIS based model to predict tar content and particulate for any filter design under varying input conditions. Description: Since Narasimhan's first application of Fuzzy Set Theory to Goal Programming (GP) in 1980, much research into fuzzy GP has been carried out. In fuzzy GP studies, although several researchers remained loyal to using the traditional GP representation, the majority have followed the fuzzy programming approach. Among fuzzy-programming-based studies, only the studies of Tiwari et al. and Lin seem applicable when the objectives have relative importance. However, both have disadvantages. Because the former model uses the add operator, some of the objectives may not be preferred at the optimal solution even they have heavy weights. The latter model is based on the max-min approach, which does not guarantee a non-dominated solution. In this study, a weighted Fuzzy GP model is presented to overcome these disadvantages, along with the shortcomings of other existing models. The model is modified from Lai and Hwang's augmented max-min model, which is guaranteed to reach a non-dominated solution. The superiority of the model over the existing approaches is demonstrated using numerical examples chosen from the literature. Description: We present an infrastructure for describing and handling uncertainty and vagueness in a combination of Description Logics and rules in the Semantic Web. More concretely, we apply fuzzy set theory to hybrid MKNF knowledge bases, and establish fuzzy hybrid MKNF knowledge bases, which is sound with respect to the classical two-valued semantics. Furthermore, we discuss some fundamental properties of fuzzy semantics, and characterize fuzzy MKNF models of general MKNF knowledge bases. We also provide characterizations of fuzzy MKNF models of positive and stratified MKNF knowledge bases in terms of a fixpoint operator and an iterative fixpoint semantics, respectively. Finally, we describe a special case of fuzzy nondisjunctive positive MKNF knowledge base, in which the truth value of a modal atom can be computed in polynomial time in the data complexity. Description: In this paper, the development of an improved Takagi Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model for identification and chaotic time series prediction of nonlinear dynamical systems is proposed. This model combines the advantages of fuzzy systems and Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) filters, which are autoregressive moving average models, to create internal dynamics with just the control input. The structure of Fuzzy Infinite Impulse Response (FIIR) is presented, and its learning algorithm is described. In the proposed model, the Butterworth analogue prototype filters are estimated using the obtained membership functions. Based on the founding orders of the analogue filters, the IIR filters could be constructed. The IIR filters are introduced to each TS fuzzy rule which produces local dynamics. Gustafson–Kessel (GK) clustering algorithm is used to generate the clusters which will be used to find the number of the IIR parameters for each rule. The hybrid genetic algorithm and simplex method are used to identify the consequence parameters. The stability of the obtained model is studied. To demonstrate the performance of this modeling method, three examples have been chosen. Comparative results between the FIIR model on one hand, and the traditional TS fuzzy model, the neural networks and the neuro-fuzzy network on the other hand. The results show that the proposed method provides promising identification results. Description: Interval-valued hesitant fuzzy sets (IVHFSs), as an extension of hesitant fuzzy sets, can account for the membership degrees of an element to a given set having a few different interval values, which provides an intuitionistic description on the differences among decision makers. We derive the properties and relationships of fundamental operations on IVHFSs for Algebraic t-norm and t-conorm. Furthermore, we present the operations based on Archimedean t-norm and t-conorm and investigate their properties. The results obtained using the two types of t-norms and t-conorms could be useful for applications of IVHFSs in information aggregation and decision making. Description: There are several methods in the literature to deal with the sensitivity analysis of fuzzy linear programming (FLP) problems. In this paper, the shortcomings of some existing methods are pointed out and to overcome these shortcomings, a new method is proposed to handle the sensitivity analysis of that kind of FLP problems in which the elements of the coefficient matrix of the constraints are represented by real numbers, and the remaining parameters are represented by symmetric trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. To the best of our knowledge, till now there is no method in the literature to deal with the sensitivity analysis of such FLP problems without converting them to the crisp linear programming problems. The advantages of the proposed method over existing methods are discussed. To illustrate the approach a numerical example is examined by using the proposed method and the obtained results are discussed. The method is easy to understand and to apply for dealing with the sensitivity analysis of the same problems occurring in real life situations. Description: In this paper a generalized form called fuzzy games on augmenting systems with fuzzy characteristic functions is introduced, where the player payoffs are fuzzy numbers, and their participation levels are real numbers in [0, 1]. Based on the defined restriction difference on fuzzy numbers, the explicit expression of the Shapley value is provided, and an axiomatic system is researched. Meantime, some properties are discussed. In order to better understand fuzzy games on augmenting systems with fuzzy characteristic functions, we further introduce and investigate fuzzy games on augmenting systems with multilinear extension and fuzzy characteristic functions. Description: Ensuring secure communication in mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is the main challenging task due to the network characteristics. In this paper, we apply fuzzy logic method and method of ant colony optimization (ACO) to establish a secure routing path with minimum delay for mobile ad hoc network. The ACO algorithm is used to establish a virtual backbone connecting cluster heads (CHs). The general ACO algorithm is modified to allow selection of routing path, based on trust value of the nodes lying in the routing path and delaying experienced in the path. The procedure uses a fuzzy logic controller to evaluate the trust value of the nodes based on node's QoS parameters: energy drain rate, lifetime of the node, packet drop rate and packet forwarding status of the node. The behavior of the protocol under various attacks is analyzed. Experimentation shows that the algorithm results in secure shortest routing path for data communication. Additionally, the packet drop rate and routing delay of the proposed routing protocol in presence of malicious nodes is fewer compared to secure cluster based routing protocol (SCBRP) and Fuzzy Logic based Security Level routing protocol (FLSL). Description: A grid computing environment provides a type of distributed computation that is unique because it is not centrally managed and it has the capability to connect heterogeneous resources. A grid system provides location-independent access to the resources and services of geographically distributed machines. An essential ingredient for supporting location-independent computations is the ability to discover resources that have been requested by the users. Because the number of grid users can increase and the grid environment is continuously changing, a scheduler that can discover decentralized resources is needed. Grid resource scheduling is considered to be a complicated, NP-hard problem because of the distribution of resources, the changing conditions of resources, and the unreliability of infrastructure communication. Various artificial intelligence algorithms have been proposed for scheduling tasks in a computational grid. This paper uses the imperialist competition algorithm (ICA) to address the problem of independent task scheduling in a grid environment, with the aim of reducing the makespan. Experimental results compare ICA with other algorithms and illustrate that ICA finds a shorter makespan relative to the others. Moreover, it converges quickly, finding its optimum solution in less time than the other algorithms. Description: A fuzzy associative memory is a fuzzy logic tool for pattern recognition or control problems. Fuzzy inference systems based on fuzzy associative memory have a wide range of practical applications. These systems need to be determined how to form and how many membership functions for each input variable by analyzing its histogram. This paper proposes an algorithm for optimizing their membership functions by a threshold set and a method that finds out optimal membership functions whereby classification effects of the fuzzy inference systems can be improved. The algorithm is associated with a measure of useful degree of input membership functions to increase accurate classification rates of the system. The paper also based on the experiment to show criteria for collecting training data to improve the effect of recognition or classification of the fuzzy inference systems. To confirm the effectiveness, the proposed algorithm is applied to a pattern recognition problem with the iris data through a fuzzy inference system based on fuzzy associative memory. Description: In this paper we study nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems with singular nonlinearities whose simplest example is −div (|∇u| p−2 ∇u)=f/u γ in Ω, u=0 on ∂Ω, where Ω is a bounded open set in R N (N≥2), γ〉0, 1〈p〈N, 0≤f∈L m (Ω), m≥1. The main difficulty is due to the right hand side f(x)/u γ , since u=0 on the boundary. In order to overcome this “obstacle”, we approach our above model problem thanks to the smooth Dirichlet problems u n ∈W 1,p 0 (Ω): −div (|∇u n | p−2 ∇u n )=min(f(x),n)/(|u n |+1/n) γ and we prove that there exists a solution u as limit (in a suitable topology) of the sequence {u n }. To be more precise, we prove that the above model problem has a suitable solution u for every f in L 1 (Ω) and for every γ〉0 and how the regularity of u depends on the summability of f, on p and on γ. Description: In the present paper we give a procedure by which we generate a fuzzy ideal (resp. a fuzzy filter and a convex fuzzy sublattice) by a fuzzy set in a lattice. And we prove that a convex fuzzy sublattice generated by a fuzzy set is an intersection of a fuzzy ideal and a fuzzy filter generated by the same fuzzy set in a lattice. Moreover, the homomorphic image and pre-image of a fuzzy ideal (fuzzy filter and convex fuzzy sublattice) generated by a fuzzy set are studied. In particular, we prove that the set of convex fuzzy sublattices of a modular lattice can form a modular lattice. Finally, as an application of our main result, we give an interesting example in BCK-algebras. Description: Support Vector Machines (SVM) has recently received a great deal of attention in regression and classification problems for crisp data. However, the fuzzy structure of the system should be considered if available information is uncertain or imprecise. In this paper, a new approach called Hybrid Fuzzy Support Vector Regression (HF-SVR) is introduced for the linear and non-linear fuzzy regression modeling. According to the proposed algorithm, parameter estimates are obtained from the solutions of two optimization problems by using the basic idea underlying SVM and the least squares principle. Furthermore, different learning machines for non-linear fuzzy regression can be constructed according to the selection of kernel function. In order to compare HF-SVR with the previously published fuzzy support vector regression methods, the data sets used in these papers are adopted. Based on the findings obtained from the numerical applications, it is determined that proposed method gives remarkable results according to the measure of mean square error. With the development of supply chain management, we can settle the contradiction through flexible and effective supply chain operation and it relies on rational supply chain resource integration (SCRI). However, supply chain operation in MC has special characters, mainly reflected in the random order information and the outstanding changes of collaborative benefits and risks which will influence the SCRI process and the collaborative psychology and negotiation state between two integration sides. Through analyzing the integration framework from the relations of integration input and output, this paper gives a deep analysis on multi-stage dynamic game process about SCRI in MC from the view of balancing the benefits and risks among both negotiation sides and points out that the integration is a collaborative game process. Through dividing the game process reasonably, this paper describes the game stage features and the index changes of resource individuals' psychological expectations and appeals of their benefits and risks by fuzzy membership functions, and then puts forward a dynamic game decision method. Finally, testing by an application case, the method is feasible and effective. Description: In this paper, by a new ranking method of interval numbers which has a total order, interval cooperative games and some relevant definitions are firstly redefined, two important theorems are presented respectively to discuss the existence of the interval core and to prove the relations between the interval core and the interval dominance core. Then on the condition that the profit value of any coalition is not fully used to allocate, a generalized interval cooperative game and its solution concepts, such as generalized interval core, generalized interval dominance core are proposed. Further more, some extended theorems to discuss the existence and the relations about its solution concepts are developed. Finally, by a specific example, the reasonableness and validity of the above theoretical notions are verified. Description: We consider a boundary value problem generated by Sturm–Liouville equations on the edges of a star-shaped graph. Thereby a continuity condition and a condition depending on the spectral parameter is imposed at the interior vertex, corresponding to the case of damping in the problem of small transversal vibrations of a star graph of smooth inhomogeneous strings. At the pendant vertices Dirichlet boundary conditions are imposed. We describe the eigenvalue asymptotics of the problem under consideration. Description: This paper presents the “Tell me What I Need” (TWIN) Personality-based Intelligent Recommender System, the goal of which is to recommend items chosen by like-minded (or “twin”) people with similar personality types which we estimate from their writings. In order to produce recommendations it applies the results achieved in the personality from the text recognition research field to Personality-based Recommender System user profile modelling. In this way it creates a bridge between the efforts of automatic personality score estimation from plain text and the field of Intelligent Recommender Systems. The paper describes the TWIN system architecture, and results of the experimentation with the system in the online travelling domain in order to investigate the possibility of providing valuable recommendations of hotels of the TripAdvisor website for “like-minded people”. The results compare favourably with related experiments, although they demonstrate the complexity of this challenging task. Description: In this paper, a new perspective is presented for prediction of chaotic time series by combining the phase space reconstruction and fuzzy approach. Before applying time series to the predictor system, the reconstruction parameters, including embedding dimension and time delay, are determined in an off-line manner by using nearest neighbor and mutual information methods. Then, the structure of the fuzzy system is specified and the input number of fuzzy system is set to the embedding dimensions. According to the embedding dimension and time delay, the phase space is reconstructed point-by-point at the entry of the fuzzy system. Fuzzy system is composed of two separated parts: predictor and tracker. The predictor part forecasts the next point for new entry with fine-tuned parameters using the last step, and the tracker part adjusts the parameters for the next step. This adjustment is done iteratively. The proposed method is compared with some references' results. Simplicity and appropriate speed with sufficient accuracy are the advantages of this method. Description: We study the mean field limit of nonrelativistic quantum many-boson systems with delta potential in one-dimensional space. Such problem is related to the semiclassical limit of a second quantized Hamiltonian with an interaction given by a quartic Wick product. In this framework, we show that the evolution of coherent states is semiclassically given by squeezed coherent states under the action of a time-dependent affine Bogoliubov transformation. Results similar to those stated by Hepp [Comm. Math. Phys. 35 (1974), 265–277] and Ginibre-Velo [Comm. Math. Phys. 66 (1979), 37–76 and 68 (1979), 45–68] are proved. Furthermore, we show propagation of chaos for Schrödinger dynamics in the mean field limit using the argument of Rodnianski–Schlein [Comm. Math. Phys. 291 (2009), 31–61]. Thus, we provide a derivation of the cubic NLS equation in one dimension. Content Type Journal Article Pages 123-170 DOI 10.3233/ASY-2011-1064 Authors Z. Description: In this paper we consider the nonclassical initial and initial-boundary value problems for second-order evolution equations with nonlocal initial conditions. We study the existence and uniqueness, in suitable abstract spaces, of solution of vector-valued distributions for such problems. We also present an algorithm of approximation of the solution of nonclassical problem with nonlocal initial conditions by a sequence of solutions of the corresponding classical problems. As an example we investigate the case of nonclassical hyperbolic equations and systems. In this particular case we show that the existence and uniqueness of solutions rely on algebraic properties of the ratios of values of the time variable in the nonlocal initial conditions and sizes of the spatial domain. Description: We consider a Schrödinger operator HA D with a non-vanishing radial magnetic field B=dA and Dirichlet boundary conditions on the unit disk. We assume growth conditions on B near the boundary which guarantee in particular the compactness of the resolvent of this operator. Under some assumptions on an additional radial potential V the operator HA D −V has a discrete negative spectrum and we obtain an upper bound of the number of negative eigenvalues. As a consequence we get an upper bound of the number of eigenvalues of HA D smaller than any positive value λ, which involves the minimum of B and the square of the L 2 -norm of A(r)/r, where A(r) is the specific magnetic potential defined as the flux of the magnetic field through the disk of radius r centered in the origin. Description: In quality control, such as other statistical problems, we may confront imprecise concepts. One case is a situation in which specification limits are two fuzzy sets. In such a fuzzy environment, the product is not qualified with a two valued Boolean view, but to some degree depending on the quality level of the product and the strictness of the decision maker. This matter can be cause to a justified judgment in decision making on manufacturing processes. The generalized process capability indices C [( p )\tilde] , C [( pk )\tilde] and C [( pm )\tilde] can be helpful and necessary for measuring the fuzzy quality in an in-control process. In this paper, the generalized Taguchi index C [( pm )\tilde] is proposed to provide an assessment of the ability of the fuzzy process to be clustered around the target value. Considering fuzzy specification limits we present four approximate 100(1 − γ)% confidence intervals for the generalized process capability index C [( pm )\tilde] in this paper. Then, we obtain several fast computable 100(1 − γ)% confidence intervals for C [( pm )\tilde] , where the fuzzy specification limits are linear, normal or elliptic. An industrial example is given to show the performance of the proposed method. Description: We consider the two-dimensional Euler equation with periodic boundary conditions. We construct time quasi-periodic solutions of this equation made of localized travelling profiles with compact support propagating over a stationary state depending on only one variable. The direction of propagation is orthogonal to this variable, and the support is concentrated on flat strips of the stationary state. Description: The authors have developed a system to assist clinicians reliably assess, at an early post-insult stage, the degree of disability the patient will ultimately experience. Physician decision processes offered to date, especially those relative to diagnosis and patient treatment, suffer from the inability to incorporate all useful data on the patient. We present a computational intelligence algorithm based on fuzzy clustering (the theory of fuzzy sets and systems) techniques to aid the physician to evaluate the complete representation of information emanating from the measured kinetic, kinematics and electromyographic data from the patient. The fuzzy clustering technique helps develop membership functions as an optimization task. The calculated membership grades are organized in the form of optimized partition matrix. As the optimization method operates on available data, it attempts to reflect their characteristics in the resulting constructs, e.g. a distribution of the prototypical values of the clusters. Description: Subjective factors and nonlinear characteristics, inherent in the importance identification for a fault tree in the reliability and risk analysis, make it necessary for fuzzy (or possibilistic) approaches to accommodate the quantificational assessment of epistemic uncertainty in a practical problem when data and information are very limited. After investigating the intuitive interpretations, possibilistic information semantics, measure-theoretic terms and entropy-like models, a new axiomatic index of importance measure for fault trees is proposed based upon possibilistic information entropy, which adopts the possibilistic assumption in place of the probabilistic one. An example of the fault tree is provided along with the concordance analysis and other discussions. The more conservative numerical results of importance rankings that involve more choices could be viewed as “soft” fault identification under a certain expected value. Finally, possible extension to the evidence space and further research directions are discussed. Description: Ranking of fuzzy numbers is one of the practicable operators that plays an important role in fuzzy mathematical, decisions and engineering procedures. There is considerable work in ranking of fuzzy numbers that have been improved over time. However, some strong ranking methods need to calculate complex and lengthy mathematical calculations in their ordering processes. In this paper, we represent a novel ranking method of trapezoidal/triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs) based on the shadow length which is simply coded in any programming language. On the other hand, many fuzzy numbers ranking methods give the same order for fuzzy numbers in any level of risk taking of a manager. So we insert the risk taking factor (RF) to order fuzzy numbers and provide a reasonable range of fuzzy numbers comparison through wide levels of the RF. We have also applied and compared several useful examples and ranking methods to depict the reasonable performance of our proposed algorithm. Description: Selection of appropriate Software Development Life Cycle(s) can increase projects success. Depending on the selected SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), one can decrease development time/cost, minimize overhead and risk exposure, manage uncertainty, improve quality, promote client relations, and provide better project tracking and control. Despite the benefits of using suitable SDLC(s), it is generally difficult to select the most appropriate one. There is not enough information in the literature about the criteria and how to take them into account to select appropriate SDLC(s). Frequently used SDLCs and their comparative properties were elicited from literature, Internet and experts according to the criteria to select appropriate SDLC(s). A Fuzzy Logic (FL) system was developed according to the elicited knowledge about the criteria and their affect on selecting suitable SDLCs in various cases. Fuzzy input/output variables, membership functions and fuzzy rules were defined and generated according to the elicited knowledge. The FL system was tested for various inputs and improved according to the test results. In this paper presents a proposed Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) chip utilized a novel Membership Function Circuit (MFC) which can be made programmable. This membership function features of large dynamic range, high current driving, high noise immunity and is simply tunable by setting some voltages on IC pins. Each input of controller has five membership functions and output has seven singletons. A new structure for Min/Max operators, and also, a new current-mode divider circuit with very small area, very low power consumption and high speed and accurate are presented, which are compatible to the proposed MFC, are also given. This controller is a general-purpose two-input one-output fuzzy controller that can be implemented in 0.08-mm 2 in 0.35-μm CMOS technology (BSIM3v3). For general control tasks, input-output inference of FLC is voltage/voltage. The maximum delay in output of FLC is about 67-ns that correspond to 15-MFLIPS (Fuzzy Logic Inference per Second) and power consumption is 2.5-mW. Description: In structural stability analyses, determining the critical buckling load is a crucial issue. Regression, fuzzy logic and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) algorithms can be used to determine critical buckling loads. This study compares the results of different approaches for column buckling load prediction. Regression, Fuzzy logic and ANN algorithms were employed in the analyses, representing material properties to take uncertainties into account and the results were compared. The results show that uncertainties play an important role in stability analyses and should be considered in the design. The elastic modulus results predicted by regression, fuzzy logic and ANN are also compared to those obtained using empirical results of the buildings codes and various models. These comparisons show that obtained results in the present study give closer results than the different design codes. Therefore, proposed models can be used for critical buckling loads and regression, fuzzy logic and ANN have strong potential as a feasible tool for estimating column buckling loads within the range of input parameters considered. Description: In this paper we introduce a new sequential sampling plan based on sequential probability ratio test for fuzzy hypotheses testing. In order to deal with uncertainty happened, the triangular fuzzy number (TFN) is used to express the fuzzy phenomenon of the sampling plan's parameters. In this plan the acceptable quality level (AQL) and the lot tolerance percent defective (LTPD) are TFN. For such a plan, we design a decision criterion of acceptance and rejection for every arbitrary λ-cut and a particular table of rejection and acceptance is calculated. This plan is well defined, since, if the parameters are crisp, it changes to a classical plan. Description: This paper presents a proposal for channel equalization of non-linear time varying communication channels that uses strategies based on quasi type-2 fuzzy sets. Both triangular and trapezoidal quasi type-2 fuzzy equalizers are designed by means of an incremental design approach. A comparative experimental study among several fuzzy equalization architectures is carried out, showing that the equalizer based on trapezoidal quasi type-2 fuzzy sets exhibits the best performance for low and medium levels of uncertainty. The results of this work also suggest that high order fuzzy sets make the equalization process more robust to the variability of the communications channel. Description: A robotic system including the robot manipulator and motors is highly nonlinear, heavily coupled and multivariable in a non-companion form. To guarantee stability of the tracking control, a multivariable fuzzy controller may be designed; however the controller becomes computationally extensive. In contrast, a PD fuzzy controller is computationally simple in a decentralized structure; however a precise performance may not be provided. To remove the shortcoming, this paper presents a novel fine-tuning fuzzy control of robots which is computationally simple with a guaranteed stability. Its performance is better than the PD fuzzy controller due to having the fine-tuning ability. Unlike the adaptive fuzzy control which adapts all fuzzy rules, the fine-tuning fuzzy control adapts only one fuzzy rule. The convergence analysis is efficiently used to obtain a simple design with high-accuracy response, robust tracking performance and guaranteed stability. Simulation results using an articulated electrically driven robot manipulator shows superiority of the fine-tuning fuzzy control over the PD fuzzy control in the set point and tracking control. Description: The development of neuro-fuzzy systems by integrating neural networks and fuzzy systems is desired because such systems can adjust fuzzy membership functions and produce fuzzy inference rules by case-learning without the need for experts or experiments. It has been applied to various fields, but there has been no detailed study of the various neuro-fuzzy models applicable to rule generation. In this paper, an experimentally verified five-layer and three-phase network is presented, which shows the effectiveness with which the neuro-fuzzy system automatically determines membership functions and selects activation fuzzy rules using both system identification and vibration control examples in engineering applications. Description: This paper proposes the analysis and design of TS fuzzy robust PID control based on gain and phase margins specifications for uncertain nonlinear dynamic systems with time delay. The input-output data set of the uncertain nonlinear time delay dynamic system is decomposed into several input-output spaces by Gustafson-Kessel (GK) clustering algorithm, which are used to compute several linear submodels by least squares algorithm, and grouped in a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy inference system. From the gain and phase margins specifications, in the frequency domain, analytical formulas are derived for fuzzy model based robust PID control design via Paralel and Distributed Compensation (PDC) strategy, considering the influence of the time delay. The main contribution of the paper is the proposal of two theorems related to necessary and sufficient conditions for fuzzy robust control design. The first theorem shows that the robust PID controller in the i-th rule of the fuzzy robust PID controller guarantees the gain and phase margins specifications for the corresponding linear model. The second theorem shows that the robust PID controller in the i-th rule of the fuzzy robust PID controller guarantees the stability for all linear models. A simulation example illustrates the efficiency of the fuzzy controller for control of a single link robotic manipulator when compared to others control methods. The experimental results for real-time fuzzy robust PID control of a termic process are obtained to demonstrate the effectiveness and practical viability of the proposed strategy. Description: This paper is concerned with scattering by a smooth compact obstacle in R d . The main results are that for certain classes of obstacles knowledge of the scattering amplitude in only one or two pairs of incident and reflected directions suffices to recover the Taylor series of a boundary defining function for the obstacle at a point. Thus certain obstacles with real analytic boundaries can be determined. Content Type Journal Article Pages 315-335 DOI 10.3233/ASY-2012-1130 Authors T.J. Description: The paper is devoted to optimization of resonances associated with 1-D wave equations in inhomogeneous media. The medium's structure is represented by a nonnegative function B. The problem is to design for a given α∈R a medium that generates a resonance on the line α+iR with a minimal possible modulus of the imaginary part. We consider an admissible family of media that arises in a problem of optimal design for photonic crystals. This admissible family is defined by the constraints 0≤b 1 ≤B(x)≤b 2 with certain constants b 1,2 . The paper gives an accurate definition of optimal structures that ensures their existence. We prove that optimal structures are piecewise constant functions taking only two extreme possible values b 1 and b 2 . This result explains an effect recently observed in numerical experiments. Then we show that intervals of constancy of an optimal structure are tied to the phase of the corresponding resonant mode and write this connection as a nonlinear eigenvalue problem. Description: We consider a three-dimensional body whose energy couples mechanic, electric and thermic effects. By using an asymptotic approach we establish the associated bi-dimensional dynamic model for a thermopiezoelectric plate. The computation of the new constitutive laws shows that pyroelectric effect (coupling of the electric field and the temperature) can appear in the limit 2D model even though the 3D dielectric displacement field does not present any coupling with the temperature. Pyrokinetic effect (coupling of elastic and temperature fields) is exhibited by the same way. Description: Spectral asymptotics of linear periodic elliptic operators with indefinite (sign-changing) density function is investigated in perforated domains with the two-scale convergence method. The limiting behavior of positive and negative eigencouples depends crucially on whether the average of the weight over the solid part is positive, negative or equal to zero. Description: We study the homogenization of elliptic equations stated in L 2 -space with degenerate weight. Both coefficients of the differential operator and the weight are ε-periodic and highly oscillating as ε tends to zero. Under minimal hypotheses on the coefficients and the weight we prove estimates of order ε and ε 2 for L 2 -norm of the difference between the exact solution and its appropriate approximations by L 2 -norm of the right-side function. The spectral method based on Bloch decomposition is used. In the case of nonunique solution provided that the weight is not regular we consider estimates for any of so-called variational solutions. Description: In fuzzy models, redundancy may be present in the form of similar fuzzy sets, especially in the construction of a fuzzy system from a set of given training examples. In this paper, a simple formula for calculating the degree of similarity of Trapezoidal membership functions is derived in order to merge similar membership functions and hence to obtain a more transparent rule-base with a minimum number of membership functions. A simplification algorithm by using the proposed similarity measure has been applied to fuzzy models of nonlinear functions approximation. Description: This paper presents a joint optimization of the supply chain network in which supplier selection, lateral transshipment, and vehicle routing are involved. Separate consideration of these decisions involved probably offers only poor-quality local optimal solutions. The contribution of this paper is to study the cost minimization of the supply chain network involving the three decisions simultaneously, using both vertical and preventive lateral transshipment, and considering both single objective and multi-objective approach with the following objectives: (a) minimize the total ordering cost incurred by the wholesaler, (b) maximize the amount of savings on the different products, and (c) find the best sequence for delivering various kinds of products to different retailers. A stochastic search technique called fuzzy logic guided genetic algorithms (FLGA) is proposed to solve the problems. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the FLGA, several search methods are compared with the FLGA through simulations in the single objective approach. In the multi-objective approach, two multi-objective evolutionary algorithms entitled Nondominated Sorting Genetic Algorithms 2 (NSGA2) and Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm 2 (SPEA2) are adopted for comparison with the FLGA. Results show that the FLGA outperforms others in all three considered scenarios for both single objective and multi-objective approaches. Description: The weld quality is generally controlled by the welding parameters. In gas metal arc welding process, the welding parameters are inter related and the adjustment of one parameter may affect another parameter and hence it is considered as a non-linear process. The non-linear nature of the welding system makes it difficult to implement a conventional control method. Fuzzy logic control is an attractive alternative approach. The performance of fuzzy controller will be very much dependent on the knowledge provided to the system. Therefore in recent years, more research has been devoted to augment the approximate reasoning method of fuzzy systems with genetic algorithms. In the present work, genetic algorithm tuned conventional controller is implemented for gas metal arc welding system. Its performance is compared with that of genetic algorithm based fuzzy logic controller. Content Type Journal Article Pages - DOI 10.3233/IFS-120650 Authors V. Description: With respect to multiple criteria group decision making problems with conflicting and non-commensurable criteria, it is generally difficult to find an alternative that meets all the criteria simultaneously. By extending the fuzzy VIKOR method, this study provides a rational and systematic process for developing the best alternative and compromise solution under the interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy environment. Furthermore, a fuzzy cross-entropy approach is proposed to state the discrimination measure between optional and optimal interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers. Finally, to expatiate on the practical value of the method proposed, an illustrative example is presented to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness over existing TOPSIS method. Description: We study, on weighted Riemannian model manifolds, well posedness of the Cauchy problem for a class of quasilinear parabolic equations with a coefficient which can be singular at infinity. We establish uniqueness or non-uniqueness of bounded solutions, under suitable assumptions on the behavior at infinity of the singular coefficient and on the Green function for the weighted Laplace–Beltrami operator. Description: We consider the Stokes problem in a domain with holes periodically distributed with a period ε. The size of the holes is of the order of ε, a small parameter going to zero. On the boundary of the holes we prescribe a Robin-type condition depending on a parameter γ. The aim is to give the asymptotic behavior of the velocity and of the pressure of the fluid as ε goes to zero. The study for a problem of this type was done in Math. Meth. Appl. Sci. 19 (1996), 857–881, via classical homogenization methods. In this work we use the periodic unfolding method in perforated domains (see C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, Série 1 342 (2006), 469–474; Portugaliae Mathematica 63(4) (2006), 467–496; Asymptotic Analysis 53(4) (2007), 209–235; in: Multiple Scales in Problems in Biomath., Mech., Physics and Numeric, Gakuto Int. Series, Math. Sci. App., Vol. 31, Gakkokotosho, 2009, pp. 37–68, and SIAM J. Math. Anal. 44(2) (2012), 718–760), which allows us to consider a general geometric framework. We give the limit problems corresponding to different values of γ (Darcy, Brinkmann or Stokes type problems). Description: In this paper we consider the high frequency diffraction of electromagnetic waves by a strictly convex obstacle. We restrict ourselves to the case of an obstacle in 2D and to the diffraction of a TE or TM wave. The aim of this paper is to present simultaneously with the same notations, unknowns and special functions the boundary layer analysis of this problem with stretched variables using the intuition of the solutions and the microlocal analysis way of construction of an adapted parametrix. We concentrate on the case of diffraction, i.e. studying the representation of a creeping wave on the boundary, which occurs in the case of the study of a glancing point. We use both methods to derive the exact solution near a diffractive point, obtaining results in terms of suitable Airy functions. Description: We study a parabolic problem set in a domain divided by a perforated interface. The pores alternate between an open and a closed state, periodically in time. We consider the asymptotics of the solution for vanishingly small size of the pores and time period. The interface condition prevailing in the limit is a linear relation between the flux (on either side) and the jump of the limiting solution across the interface. More exactly this behaviour only takes place when the relative sizes of the relevant geometrical and temporal parameters are connected by suitable relations. With respect to the stationary version of this problem, which is known in the literature, we demonstrate the appearance of a new admissible asymptotic standard. More in general, we describe the precise interplay between the geometrical and temporal parameters leading to the quoted interface condition. This work represents a preliminary mathematical investigation of a model of selective transport of chemical species through biological membranes. Description: In real world dataset, there are often large amount of discrete data that the concern is the interpolation and/or extrapolation by an approximation tool. Therefore, a training process will be actually used for definition and construction of the approximator parameters. Huge amount of data may lead to high computation time and a time consuming training process. To this concern a fast learnt fuzzy neural network as a robust function approximator and predictor is proposed in this paper. The learning procedure and the structure of the network is described in detail. Simplicity and fast learning process are the main features of the proposing Self-Organizing Fuzzy Neural Network (SOFNN), which automates structure and parameter identification simultaneously based on input-target samples. First, without need of clustering, the initial structure of the network with the specified number of rules is established, and then a training process based on the error of other training samples is applied to obtain a more precision model. After the network structure is identified, an optimization process based on the known error criteria is performed to optimize the obtained parameter set of the premise parts and the consequent parts. At the end, comprehensive comparisons are made with other approaches to demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is superior in term of compact structure, convergence speed, memory usage and learning efficiency. Description: In this paper, we investigate the multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problems with hesitant interval-valued fuzzy information. We first introduce some operations on hesitant fuzzy sets, such as Einstein sum, Einstein product, Einstein exponentiation, etc., and propose the hesitant interval-valued fuzzy sets. Then, we further develop some new Einstein aggregation operators with hesitant interval-valued fuzzy information, such as the hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein weighted average (HIVFEWA) operator, hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein weighted geometric (HIVFEWG) operator, hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted average (HIVFEOWA) operator, hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted geometric (HIVFEOWG) operator, induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted averaging (I-HIVFEOWA) operator and induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted geometric (I-HIVFEOWG) operator. Then, we apply the induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted averaging (I-HIVFEOWA) operator and induced hesitant interval-valued fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted geometric (I-HIVFEOWG) operator to deal with multiple attribute decision making under the hesitant interval-valued fuzzy environments. Finally, an illustrative example is given to verify the developed approach and to demonstrate its practicality and effectiveness. Description: Condition monitoring is a prevalent method to improve the Reliability, Accessibility, Maintainability and Safety level of a system. By using this method, detection and diagnostics of imminence or persistence faults, will be viable. The ability of detecting imminent faults, it will be possible to prevent any breakdowns via preventive maintenance, which leads to improve Reliability and Accessibility and functional lifetime expansion of the system. In recent years, monitoring systems have gained much consideration for boosting the quality of equipment operations in railway systems. In this paper, we employed Neuro-Fuzzy Network (NFN) for fault detection and diagnostics in a typical audio frequency track circuit, which is a combination of knowledge-based and data-based systems. It has the merits of both fuzzy systems and neural networks. In other words, NFN is capable of interacting with low precision data and has the learning ability of a neural network. For the realization of the method; a typical track circuit has been modeled and simulated. Healthy and faulty data have been used for training the algorithm. When put to work, occurrence of fault modes or their imminence is detected and localized with a good precision by the algorithm. Description: In this study, we present a new method for ranking generalized trapezoidal fuzzy numbers based on the incenter and inradius of a triangle. The proposed method is simple and easy to apply to real life problems. The method can also rank crisp numbers and fuzzy numbers with the same centroid point. Description: In this paper, deriving the fuzzy weights of criteria from the fuzzy pair-wise comparison matrix with triangular fuzzy elements is investigated. In the proposed method we first use the ranking function to convert the triangular fuzzy data into crisp one. Then by using the goal programming method we derive the fuzzy weights of criteria. We propose two new methods, and it is shown that these methods are able to derive the weights of criteria in the case of crisp elements. We compare the results of the presented method with some of the existing methods. The approach is illustrated by some numerical examples.
