    Description: The comparative analysis of the Ady poem "Sírni, sírni, sírni" and the Krleža poem "Tužaljka nad crkvom" convincingly proves the paraphrasic character of the latter and thus the creative reception of the poem of Ady. With the comparative investigation of the motif world and the linguistic archaisms of Ady and Krleža, the facts of the Ady reception, which are everywhere present in the Kerempuh ballads, are made visible.
    Description: Durch die komparatistische Untersuchung des Ady-Gedichtes "Sírni, sírni, sírni" und des Krleža-Gedichtes "Tužaljka nad crkvom" kann man den Paraphrasencharakter des letzteren und damit die kreative Rezeption des Ady-Gedichtes überzeugend beweisen. Mit der komparatistischen Untersuchung der Motivwelt und der sprachlichen Archaismen Adys und Krležas sind die in den Kerempuh-Balladen überall vorhandenen Tatsachen der Ady-Rezeption sichtbar gemacht.

    Description: Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Veränderungen des Polnischen, die innerhalb der Morphemstrukturen bei der Generierung der Flexions- und Derivationsformen vorkommen. Aus der Vielzahl der Veränderungen (z. Bsp. Geminierung oder Tilgung von Elementen, Konsonantenwechsel, etc.) behandelt die Arbeit ausschließlich die Vokalwechsel des Polnischen. Als Vokalwechsel wird hierbei der Wechsel von einem vokalischen Element mit einem anderen vokalischen Element an einer bestimmten Stelle der Morphemstruktur verstanden; hierzu zählt auch der Wechsel zwischen "flüchtigem Vokal" (samogłoska ruchoma) und dem zu tilgenden Element.

    Description: Als eines der bedeutendsten slavischen grammatischen Werke vor J. Dobrovskys 'Institutiones linguae Slavicae' (Wien 1822) bzw. vor M.V. Lomonosovs 'Rossijskaja grammatika' (Sankt-Petersburg 1755/1757/) wird mit Recht die kirchenslavische Grammatik angesehen. Jedoch sowohl bezüglich des Erscheinungsortes (Wilna, Jevje bei Wilna) als auch des Erscheinungsjahres (1618, 1619) sowie der genauen Blätterzahl dieser Grammatik hat es unter Bibliographen verschiedene Meinungen gegeben; die Unterschiede wurden durch eine differenzierte Gestaltung des Titelblattes in den bislang zugänglichen und bekannt gewordenen Exemplare der Grammatik hervorgerufen.

    Description: The book is the first systematic study of the beginnings of psychoanalysis on Polish lands in Galicia (Austria-Hungary) and Congress Poland (Russia) during the partitions of Poland in the years between 1900 and 1918. The birth of the movement was presented on a broad cultural background, as an element of the assimilation processes among Polish Jews. At the same time, Freud's and Jung's theories began to gain popularity in Polish medical, philosophical, artistic and literary circles. By 1918, over a dozen articles on psychoanalysis had been published in Polish scientific and philosophical journals. Freud himself was vitally interested in this process, sending Ludwig Jekels to Krakow in the role of – as he wrote – an "apostle" of his theory in the circles of the Polish intelligentsia.

    Description: Was der Verhaltensbiologie gelungen ist – nämlich die Entwicklung von einer beschreibenden zu einer erklärenden Wissenschaft – das sollte auch Ziel der Linguistik sein. Der Autor zeigt auf, wie sich dieses Ziel im systemtheoretischen Rahmen erreichen lässt. Zunächst ist das Grundlagenproblem unzureichender Begriffsdefinitionen und Testverfahren zu lösen, um zu korrekten Beschreibungen und induktiv abgeleiteten Gesetzmäßigkeiten zu gelangen. Dadurch lassen sich bereits viele neue Erkenntnisse gewinnen. Sodann kann man für empirisch ermittelte Sachverhalte nach Erklärungen suchen, die auf allgemeinen Prinzipien oder Erwartungen beruhen. Diese Suche ist unter anderem dann zumeist erfolgreich, wenn sie durch Symmetriebrüche und eine konsequente Faktorenanalyse erleichtert wird.

Ausgangspunkt aller Arbeiten war die Frage nach der Motiviertheit der Attributssetzung, d.h. die Frage danach, warum überhaupt Adjektive verwendet werden und warum gerade die gegebenen verwendet werden. Ein solcher Ansatz impliziert, daß auch nach Restriktionen der Attributssetzung bzw. ihrer Distribution gesucht und die Abgrenzung von konkurrierenden Mitteln näher betrachtet wird.     Description: Es war bekanntlich Vuk Stefanović Karadžić, der mit seinem Werk einen Wendepunkt in der Geschichte der serbischen Sprache und ihrer Orthographie markiert. Dieses Werk, das nicht nur groß ist, weil es Neues brachte, sondern auch, weil es zielsicher in die gesellschaftliche Wirklichkeit hineingetragen wurde, hat nahezu alle progressiven Ideen der Vorläufer Vuks in sich aufgenommen. Einer dieser Vorläufer, dem Vuk wohl am meisten verdankt, was die Reform der serbischen Kyriliza und Orthographie wie die Auffassung des phonologischen Prinzips betrifft, ist Sava Mrkalj, eine ebenso bedeutende wie tragische Persönlichkeit des serbischen kulturellen Lebens am Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts.

    Description: Balickijs Arbeit Materialy dija istorii slavjanskago jazykoznanija, Kiev 1876 (im Vorwort zum Bd. 42 dieser Reihe bereits angekündigt) hat einen Nachdruck wünschenswert erscheinen lassen, da sie einen weitgehend vollständigen Überblick über die kirchenslavischen und russischen Grammatiken der älteren Zeitperiode (16. Jh. 1872) gibt und somit weitere Quellen zum Studium der ostslavischen Sprachwissenschaft erschließen kann. Die vorliegende kommentierte Bibliographie behandelt sowohl die in russischer als auch in westeuropäischen Sprachen erschienenen Grammatiken des Russischen und Kirchenslavischen und stellt insofern eine sinnvolle Ergänzung zu Kul'mans "Iz istorii russkoj grammatiki", Petrograd 1917 (Nachdruck als Bd. 42 dieser Reihe) dar. Insbesondere sind die Kommentare Balickijs zu den in deutscher Sprache verfaßten Grammatiken von Jacob Rodde, Johann Heym, Johann Severin Vater und August Wilhelm Tappe hervorzuheben.

    Description: The merchants of the medieval Hanse monopolised trade in the Baltic and North Sea areas. The authors describe the structure of their trade system in terms of network organisation and attempts to explain, on the grounds of institutional economics, the coordination of the merchants’ commercial exchange by reputation, trust and culture. The institutional economics approach also allows for a comprehensive analysis of coordination problems arising between merchants, towns and the ‘Kontore’. Due to the simplicity and flexibility of network trade the Hansards could bridge the huge gap in economic development between the West and the East. In the changing economic conditions around 1500, however, exactly these characteristics proved to be a serious limit to further retain their trade monopoly.

    Description: The three-part work provides a first synthetic account of the history of the Polish intelligentsia from the days of its formation to World War I. Part one (1750–1831) traces the formation of the intelligentsia as a social class in the epoch of Enlightenment. It stresses the importance of the birth of bureaucratic institutions that created the demand for the educated stratum. It analyses the results of the collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in 1795 – the ominous event that transformed the political geography of East Central Europe. The work combines social and intellectual history, tracing both the formation of the intelligentsia as a social stratum and the forms of engagement of the intelligentsia in the public discourse. Thus, it offers a broad view of the group’s transformations which immensely influenced the course of the Polish history.

    Description: The financial and economic crisis that hit Europe in 2009 brought out the precariousness of the monetary union, accentuating the economic disequilibrium among European nations and strengthening Euro-skepticism. The crisis served as a catalyst for long-standing and unresolved problems: the creation of a singly monetary area with intergovernmental control, the final act in the construction of a Europe economically united but without a government and a state; the consequent discrepancy between forming a consensus that remains in large part national and the political dynamics in Europe; the sustainability of a monetary union in the absence of an economic-social union, which presents again the long-standing debate between "monetarist" countries and "economist" countries.This book aims at placing current events within a long-term framework composed of a mosaic of multidisciplinary contributions that can provide the reader with keys which are adequate for an understanding of these events and useful for opening up new horizons.The book begins with a look at 20th-century monetary unification projects in an attempt at reconstructing the long road toward the single currency: the first monetary unification projects in the 1950s and 1960s; the turbulence of the 1970s; the new impetus given by the European Monetary System to the cohesion among European countries; the causes of the 1992 crisis; and the long struggle for the Monetary Union, which would end at Maastricht. Finally, it focuses on the most recent events – the creation of the Eurozone and its crisis – starting from the turbulent years of the first decade of the new millennium and ending on May 31, 2016, just before the Brexit referendum.The book focuses on analyzing the strategies undertaken during the monetary unification process, underscoring, on the one hand, the conviction of the Founding Fathers of the EMU that a single currency would favor further progress toward a more stringent economic and political integration, and on the other the continuing national resistance to the transfer of sovereignty from the national states to the European Union.

    Description: This book is rooted in the author’s experience as an interviewer and researcher in the Mauthausen Survivors Documentation Project – the biggest European oral history project devoted to a single Nazi concentration camp system, realized in the years 2002/2003 at the University of Vienna. Over 850 Mauthausen survivors have been recorded worldwide, more than 160 of them in Poland, and over 30 by the author. The work offers an in-depth analysis of Polish survivors’ accounts, sensitive to both, form and content of these stories, as well as their social and cultural framing. The analysis is accompanied by an interpretation of (Polish) camp experiences in a broader biographical and historical perspective. The book is an interpretive journey from camp experiences, through the survivors’ memories, to narratives recalling them − and backwards.

This is not the first time that technological changes affect the book trade. Both the printing press and industrialized production methods vitally changed the book industry in their time. With a macroscopic, comparative approach, this book looks at the transitional phases of the book of the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries to locate distinctive patterns in the acceptance of new technologies. Using specific book value categories, which shape the acceptance context of innovations in book production, helps us find continuities and discontinuities of these patterns.     Description: Über die Ikone zu Kalbensteinberg handelte vor 250 Jahren der bekannte Polyhistor und Universalgelehrte Johann Alexander Döderlein (1675 - 1745), der auch das Lyzeum zu Weißenburg leitete, in einer für seine Zeit beachtlichen Schrift. Gestützt auf die Mithilfe von Sachverständigen jener Zeit der vorwissenschaftlichen Slavistik, ist Döderleins Bemühen bis auf den heutigen Tag die einzige Untersuchung dieses in vieler Hinsicht rätselhaften Denkmals einer mittelfränkischen Landgemeinde geblieben. Es lag nahe, das Thema mit den wissenschaftlichen Methoden unserer Zeit zu bearbeiten. Fragen der Vorlage, der Textlesung, der Sprache und der Schrift mußten im Vordergrund des Unterfangens stehen.

    Description: 〈P〉Die vorliegende Untersuchung der Nominalisierung, d.i. der Bildung der Nomina im Gegenwartspolnisch stellt einen Versuch dar, diese beiden Gebiete, d.i. die Phonologie und die Wortbildung zusammenhängend darzustellen, indem u.a. der Wortbildung ein wortphonologisches Regelsystem vorausgeschickt wird, das das Funktionieren hauptsächlich der morphologisch motivierten Alternationen zeigt und somit auch in die Wortbildung einbezogen werden kann. Den theoretischen Rahmen dieser Untersuchung bildet im weitesten Sinne die sog. Erweiterte Standard-Theorie der Generativistik, die ungeachtet der Tatsache angewandt wird, daß sie - als Standard-Theorie - besonders zwischen Rhein und Elbe - sicherlich durch "Überstrapazierung" besonders in den 70-er Jahren - an Beachtung verloren hat. Im Falle der Nominalisierung im Polnischen bietet sie in ihrer erweiterten Form jedoch die Möglichkeit, die Wortbildung des Polnischen in ihrer Eigenart beschreibungsadäquat darzustellen. 〈/P〉

    Description: I. S. Turgenev's predilection for the use of quotes, but also for allusions to other arts, such as painting or music, is not to be overlooked. Recent research has repeatedly pointed to the intertextuality of Turgenev. The novella "Faust" and the sketch "Gamlet Ščigrovskogo uezda" from the cycle "Zapiski ochotnika" are suitable objects of investigation inasmuch as they have significant similarities both in their intertextuality and in the structure of the text. The parallels begin with the clear marking of the intertextual reference in the title and range from similarities in the narrative form to thematic and argumentative equivalences.
    Description: I. S. Turgenev's Vorliebe für die Verwendung von Zitaten, aber auch für Anspielungen auf andere Künste, etwa Malerei oder Musik, ist nicht zu übersehen. In der neueren Forschung ist wiederholt auf die Intertextualität bei Turgenev hingewiesen worden. Die Novelle "Faust" und die Skizze "Gamlet Ščigrovskogo uezda" aus dem Zyklus "Zapiski ochotnika" sind insofern geeignete Untersuchungsobjekte, als sie sowohl hinsichtlich ihrer Intertextualität als auch in der Textstruktur überhaupt deutliche Ähnlichkeiten aufweisen.     Description: V. K. Trediakovskij hat an der FEOPTIJA in den Jahren 1750-54 gearbeitet. Zu der Zeit hatte die Bewunderung für A. Popes "Essay on Man" (1734) in Europa ihren Höhepunkt erreicht. Tred. hat das Poem aber schon früher aus französischen Übersetzungen, deren erste 1737 erschienen war, kennengelernt. Es liegt deshalb nahe, dem Einfluß Popes auf Tred. nachzugehen und zu prüfen, wie sich die Gattungsmerkmale des Lehrgedichts, das zwischen 1730 und 1760 in Westeuropa in Blüte stand, in der Feoptija ausgeprägt haben. Das geschieht im 3. Kapitel der vorliegenden Arbeit.

Zum einen ist das auch heute immer noch für den linguistisch interessierten Bohemisten und Slavisten unentbehrliche Werk antiquarisch kaum zu erhalten. Zum anderen bietet dieser Sammelband einen guten methodischen Einstieg in zahlreiche Probleme der tschechischen Sprachwissenschaft. Die Grundbegriffe der Linguistik, die tschechische Elementargrammatik und Lesekenntnisse im Tschechischen sind allerdings notwendige Voraussetzungen hierfür. Die Auswahl der Beiträge erfolgte in erster Linie nach dem Gesichtspunkt, welche Texte sich für Veranstaltungen in der Bohemistik am besten eignen.

    Description: US society has controversially debated civil-military relationships and war trauma since the Vietnam War. Civic activists today promote Indigenous warrior traditions as role models for non-Native veteran reintegration and health care. They particularly stress the role of ritual and narrative for civil-military negotiations of war experience and for trauma therapy. Applying a cultural-comparative lens, this book reads non-Native soldiers’ and veterans’ life writing from post-9/11 wars as «ceremonial storytelling.» It analyzes activist academic texts, «milblogs» written in the war zone, as well as «homecoming scenarios.» Soldiers’ and veterans’ interactions with civilians constitute jointly constructed, narrative civic rituals that discuss the meaning of war experience and homecoming.

Analyseobjekt dieser Arbeit sind nun die mehr als 600 Textvarianten, die in den fast 50 betroffenen Ausgaben aufgefunden wurden.Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist, daß die Sprache Zoščenkos das Zentrum seiner Kurzgeschichten bildet; sie dient nicht nur der sprachlichen Verpackung der Aussage, sondern ist ein entscheidender Teil von ihr, indem erstens die Sprachverwendung ohne direkte auktoriale Eingriffe die Aussagen des Erzählers in Zweifel zieht und zweitens sie selbst zum Objekt der Kritik wird. 〈/P〉 〈P〉 〈/P〉

    Description: The author analyzes modern Russian history from a new perspective. Due to the ideological heritage of the XIXth and XXth centuries, the social settings of the sociopolitical history of the USSR (1917–1945) have not been fully identified. Detailed examination of ideological and political concepts shows that the revolution of 1917 became not a middle class, proletarian movement, but rather a plebeian one. The misjudgment by the new power enabled growth but caused tremendous losses of human lives and material damages. Socialization of economy and strict centralization led to a new social structure and established terror as an instrument for social reorganization. WWII revealed the necessity of a correction of these developments, but the events of the Cold War circumvented any further considerations.
