    Description: This book proposes an array of 11 key papers aimed at investigating the complex and multifaceted nature of the bio-based economy, focusing both on a conceptual understanding of the transition and on the measurement issues associated with it. More specifically, the papers included in this book can be broadly divided in two groups: (1) those aiming at adding to our understanding of the transition process towards a sustainable bio-based economy; and (2) those aiming at adding to the definition and measurement of the emerging sustainable bio-based economy. The book offers a comprehensive view of the phenomenon, providing a logical framework for understanding the ongoing transition towards a bio-based economy, as well as an overview of existing tools to assess and measure it. Policy-makers will largely benefit from the book, which contributes to taking a further step towards the much-needed transition to sustainability.

    Description: Studies in the fields of bilingualism and second language acquisition have shown that both cognitive and affective psychological factors can influence individuals’ bilingual speech production. More recently, both experimental and variationist studies of bilingual communities have examined the role of social factors on bilinguals’ speech, particularly in cases of long-term language contact and minority-language bilingualism. The Special Issue brings together work on the psychological and/or social factors that influence bilingual speech production as well as work that uses different methodological frameworks. We examine the role of such factors on bilingual speech production in diverse contexts, in order to provide a more holistic account of the ways in which extra-linguistic influences may affect bilinguals’ speech in one or both of their languages.

    Description: The overall focus, scope, and purpose of this Special Issue on outdoor adventure is to provide the current and anticipated future trends, offer innovative ideas for new programs, support decision making for managers to move plans and intentions into action, inspire pioneering staff training and leadership development, incite policy reviews and revisions, promote resource (re)allocation where needed, and stimulate culture shifts among outdoor leaders and managers.     Description: Eating Disorders have traditionally been considered apart from public health concerns about increasing obesity. It is evident that these problems are, however, related in important ways. Comorbid obesity and eating disorder is increasing at a faster rate than either obesity or eating disorders alone and one in five people with obesity also presents with an Eating Disorder, commonly but not limited to Binge Eating Disorder. New disorders have emerged such as normal weight or Atypical Anorexia Nervosa. However research and practice too often occurs in parallel with a failure to understand the weight disorder spectrum and consequences of co-morbidity that then contributes to poorer outcomes for people living with a larger size and an Eating Disorder. Urgently needed are trials that will inform more effective assessment, treatment and care where body size and eating disorder symptoms are both key to the research question.

    Description: Many people are increasingly concerned about economic inequality within their own nations, or between wealthy nations and poor ones. But is today's vast economic inequality best addressed by appeals to ethics, by altering social structures such as taxes and laws, or some combination of the two approaches? This volume brings together leading scholars from across the disciplines who believe today's extreme economic inequality threatens human flourishing and who are determined to address it using their own disciplinary tools. The broadly interdisciplinary volume incorporates contributions from fields as varied as theology, philosophy, economics, education, social work, sociology and law. Our work together illustrates how incorporating a variety of perspectives in a conversation enriches religious and ethical reflection on a significant social ill, and how quantitative and secular fields can help offer practical solutions to contemporary ethical problems.

    Description: Since 2017, the United States and Europe—among many other refugee-hosting countries—have made significant changes in their refugee policies. New visa restrictions, travel bans, and other regulations were imposed by national governments. At the local level, towns and cities responded in different ways: some resisted national policy by declaring themselves “sanctuary cities”, while others supported exclusionary policies. These different responses influenced refugees’ ability to settle and become integrated. The Refugees in Towns (RIT) project at Tufts University explores local urban integration experiences, drawing on the knowledge and perspectives of refugees and citizens in towns around the world. Since 2017, more than 30 RIT case studies have deepened our local knowledge about the factors that enable or obstruct integration, and the ways in which migrants and hosts co-exist, adapt, and struggle with integration. In this Special Issue, seven articles explore urban integration in towns in Europe (Frankfurt-Rödelheim, Germany; Newcastle, UK; Ambertois, France; Italy’s cities; and Belgrade, Serbia) and in North America: Bhutanese refugee-hosting US cities, and Antigonish, Canada. The papers explore how refugees and citizens interact; the role of officials and politicians in enabling or obstructing integration; the social, economic, and cultural impact of migration; and the ways—inclusive or exclusive—locals have responded.

The topics of the selected papers range from clinical to pre-clinical models, as well as in vitro basic research. Scientific areas covered are autism spectrum disorders, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and seizures, with emphasis on epigenetics and experimental models.     Description: O tema deste livro é o processo de formação cultural dos jovens integrantes do assentamento Mário Lago, construído através da luta de famílias de trabalhadores que formam a base de mobilização do Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra, MST, no município de Ribeirão Preto-SP, auto-denominado "capital nacional do agronegócio", em razão de sua projeção nacional e internacional através do complexo de atividades econômicas vinculadas ao contexto da produção agro-industrial. A análise desenvolvida na obra pressupõe os jovens como sujeitos dos processos abertos pela luta política em torno da terra e interlocutores dos grupos com os quais convivem, configurando sua consciência perante o que experimentam no cotidiano. Além disso, identifica as referências ético-políticas construídas junto à comunidade e junto ao MST, os constrangimentos presentes em suas vidas, constituídos pelos limites objetivos e subjetivos da luta, bem como sua capacidade de projetar o futuro.

    Description: This is a collection of published papers from a variety of authors from around the world on the topic of the health and wellbeing of minority sexual orientation and gender identity populations. Some of the included papers focused on health inequality and inequity and some focussed on healthcare delivery. Many showed how health inequities in LGBT+ groups of people were found across a wide variety of political environments and health and wellbeing topics and frequently inadequate healthcare delivery. The increasing interest in research in this area, which has been neglected in the past, shows its growing importance.

[There is ever more research on smart cities and new interdisciplinary approaches proposed on the study of smart cities. Even if rural areas and countryside communities have previously been a subject of concern for robust policy frameworks, such as the European Union’s Cohesion Policy and Common Agricultural Policy Arguably, the concept of ‘the village’ has been largely absent in the debate. As a result, when advances in sophisticated information and communication technology (ICT) led to the emergence of a rich body of research on smart cities, the application and usability of ICT in the context of a village has remained underdiscussed in the literature. Against this backdrop, this volume delivers on four objectives. It delineates the conceptual boundaries of the concept of ‘smart village’. It highlights in which ways ‘smart village’ is distinct from ‘smart city’. It examines in which ways smart cities research can enrich smart villages research. It sheds light on the smart village research agenda as it unfolds in European and global contexts.]

    Description: At this time in world history, numerous scholars have emphasized the importance of having greater diversity in leadership, and specifically having greater representation by women in leadership. In particular, providing women with greater access to higher education—and having role models for women in higher education leadership—has a beneficial ripple effect, given that postsecondary institutions shape the lives of future generations. Individuals, nations, and the world collectively pay a price when women are not given full opportunities to develop and contribute their talents by serving on senior-level leadership teams. This Special Issue, titled “Perspectives on Women’s Higher Education Leadership From Around the World,” offers an array of articles that present research findings from both qualitative and quantitative studies, along with narratives and best practices gleaned from the lived experiences of women in academic leadership from countries on four continents: the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, China, and Saudi Arabia. Taken together, these articles offer a helpful overview of the literature related to women in higher education leadership worldwide, thus addressing previous concerns that much of the research has too often taken a Western perspective that reflects inaccurate assumptions for other cultural contexts.

    Description: After the impact of the 2007 crisis and post-crisis austerity policies, cities are being reconfigured under the auspices of inequality. The objective of this book is to study inequality in the city at different scales and in all territories, from informal settlements and the “urbanization of poverty” in the countries of the South, to the fragmentation of the city or urban segregation as global phenomena in 21st century cities. In line with this, we propose introducing new debates on the city and inequality linked to social movements, urban governance, and the access to and quality of drinking water, among other topics. The issue includes articles on social movements and resistance in Latin American cities, vulnerability in crisis-hit Spanish cities, and the segregation and quality of basic services in US cities.

Car ce nouveau sujet d’exposition recouvre de nouveaux questionnements autour de l’identité collec­tive des sociétés contemporaines. Aux Etats-Unis, au Canada, en Australie ou en France, comment des institutions spécifiques abordent-elles l’histoire de l’immigration ? Comment la rattachent-elles au fait national ? Quel dis­cours d’inclusion tissent-elles ? Quel imaginaire social les traverse ? Rencontrant les mémoires de migrants, la muséographie devient moyen de reconnaissance, vecteur de visibilité. Musée réceptacle d’une communauté ethni­que. Musée virtuel documentant en ligne le passé d’une ville d’immigrants. Politique d’exposition sur la diversité des mémoires à l’échelle d’un espace régional... Autant d’expé­riences mises ici en perspective par des universitaires et des conservateurs français et étrangers. Mais ces thèmes n’émergent pas sans débat ni dissensus. Et ce qui se joue à cette occasion gagne à être évoqué au regard d’autres héritages conflictuels. D’où les analyses sur les limites de la prise en charge patrimoniale de l’esclavage aux Antilles, le point de vue indigène dans les « sociétés de colons », ou les affrontements mémoriels à propos du passé colonial français. Enfin, c’est hors des murs du musée qu’il faut regarder. Car c’est aussi par l’action cultu­relle au sens large que passent de tels enjeux. Du travail d’associa­tions de terrain pour promouvoir les mémoires de « l’autre » ou des « Suds » auprès du grand public, jusqu’aux projets en gestation à l’échelle européenne autour du patrimoine des migrations.

Les acteurs économiques s'efforcent donc sans relâche d'« expliciter les qualités marchandes, c'est-à-dire calculables en termes monétaires, d'un journal, d'un travailleur intermittent, d'un corps d'agneau, d'une cocotte-minute, d'une transmission téléphonique ou du fonctionnement d'un hôpital », etc. Produit d'une longue réflexion collective, ce livre dirigé par François Vatin s'attache à étudier la genèse de la valeur économique dans ces dispositifs de mesure. Cherchant à penser l'économie en amont du marché, il offre une contribution originale au renouveau de la sociologie économique française. Un exemple en forme de clin d'œil à La Fontaine éclaire cette démarche novatrice : « L'agneau est dès sa naissance un être composite, engagé dans plusieurs existences parallèles. Il ne cesse jamais d'être un véritable agneau, bien vivant et bêlant, mais l'éleveur l'élève pour qu'il devienne ce qu'il est déjà : un agneau mort qui devra convaincre les clients des supermarchés ou celui des boucheries de luxe, un agneau dont le prix se dessine sur ses flancs comme l'ombre rétroprojetée des grilles de paiement utilisées par les abattoirs pour fixer la rémunération de l'éleveur. » S'appuyant sur les exemples les plus divers, les auteurs soulignent combien les processus de mesure affectent la nature même des biens et des services offerts à la consommation. Ils éclairent ainsi d'une lumière originale l'économisation du monde à l'œuvre dans nos sociétés contemporaines.

Given the increase of internet use among youth, researchers have started to pay attention to cyberspace, understanding that it may be a fertile ground for bullying behaviors, specifically, what is known as cyberbullying. “Family, Bullying and Cyberbullying” examines the association of several family variables with bullying in offline and online environments during childhood and adolescence.     Description: Higher education has been considered both an ‘engine’ for innovation and a ‘catalyst’ for sustainability development; the integration of both the innovation engine and sustainability catalyst roles are discussed in a recently published Special Issue on the theme of Higher Education in Innovation Ecosystems in the journal Sustainability. Based on 16 articles contributing to the Special Issue from various perspectives, the Special Issue editors have developed an overarching framework about the relationships between higher education and innovation ecosystems. In the framework, we re-define the concept of innovation ecosystem and identify emerging roles of universities in developing sustainable innovation ecosystems. Re-conceptualization of innovation ecosystems In the editorial of the Special Issue, innovation ecosystem is defined as: co-innovation networks in which actors from organizations concerned with the functions of knowledge production, wealth creation, and norm control interact with each other in forming co-evolution and interdependent relations (both direct or indirect) in cross-geographical contexts and through which new ideas and approaches from various internal and external sources are integrated into a platform to generate shared values for the sustainable transformation of society. Compared with most commonly cited definitions of innovation ecosystem, our definition highlights three new aspects of interactions in co-innovation networks: cross-sectoral, transnational, and indirect, drawing insights from the literature including innovation, geography, and biology studies. The roles of universities in innovation ecosystems The emerging roles of universities in innovation ecosystems are as follows: (1) The role of universities is changing from being a central player in technology transfer to being an anchor in knowledge exchange; (2) universities are assuming a new role in trust-building between actors in innovation ecosystems; and (3) universities are not merely an entrepreneurial universities but are also institutional entrepreneur in the innovation ecosystem. The three emerging roles all indicate that universities are becoming the catalysts for sustainable development in innovation ecosystems. Knowledge exchange is crucial for sustainability; trust is the foundation of the sustainable networks; social entrepreneurship is indispensable for sustainable social change. Evidence in wider contexts A total of 44 authors from 10 countries contributed to the discussions on the changing roles of higher education in innovation ecosystems from varying perspectives. They also report transformations within higher education and universities’ responses to both external and internal transformations. When addressing these issues, the studies provide both theoretical and methodological contributions to the research on higher education in innovation ecosystems. The 16 articles can be generally placed into four categories: (1) new demands for universities arising from the transformation in society toward innovation ecosystems, (2) transformations within higher education responding to emerging societal demands, (3) dynamics of the interaction of university with other innovation actors in a transnational context, and (4) academic and student mobility for higher education innovation. Calling for a new research agenda While societal changes demand broader roles of universities, they also call for and leads to substantial changes within the internal fabric of the university. The innovations in both society and the universities necessitate a renewed understanding of higher education in society, which has become a new research agenda in studies on innovation in higher education. We hope our Special Issue will inspire and encourage more scholars to join the research field.

    Description: La question de la capacité de la sociologie à se constituer comme science est banale et revient régulièrement. Comme souvent dans un tel cas, la multiplicité des réponses obscurcit d’autant plus le débat que chacun le croit définitivement tranché et se sent autorisé à camper sereinement sur ses positions. Le dossier est ici à nouveau ouvert, dans une perspective non plus polémique mais analytique. L’idée de normativité scientifique – c’est-à-dire de système de normes commentant l’activité des chercheurs – en est le fil conducteur. Divers auteurs, sociologues pour la plupart, mais aussi philosophe comme Gilles Gaston Granger ou Pierre Livet, ont accepté de confronter des points de vue issus des diverses traditions et pratiques de la recherche sociologique. Quantitativisme et qualitativisme, phénoménologie et positivisme, ces étiquettes qui, parmi tant d’autres, définissent souvent des camps retranchés et des langages irréductibles, ne sont ici que des positions également pertinentes à partir desquelles les divers auteurs engagent le dialogue. L’enjeu n’est pas de consacrer le triomphe d’une approche sur une autre ni de mettre en scène une sociologie rêvée, mais de procéder au travail commun de réflexivité qu’exige son exercice quotidien.

    Description: Sustainability is an urgent developmental task for our society and is attracting increasing attention. Therefore, higher education institutions (HEIs) are also called upon to deal theoretically, conceptually, methodically, critically, and reflectively with the associated challenges and the processes and conditions of transformation in order to contribute to sustainable development. How can complex organisations such as HEIs succeed in initiating and maintaining the process of sustainable development within their own institutions and make it a permanent responsibility? How can as many protagonists as possible be persuaded to get involved in sustainable development? This book deals with the promotion of sustainable university development and provides an overview of how universities can be organised sustainably and how sustainable development can be implemented in their various functional areas. In the sense of a “whole-institution approach”, which encompasses entire HEIs, the focus is not only on the core areas of teaching (higher education for sustainable development) and research (sustainability in research) but, also, on the operational management of HEIs. In addition, this book focuses on sustainability governance and transfer for sustainable development at HEIs as cross-disciplinary issues.

    Description: Cyberbullying has emerged as a major issue across societies and for schools, parents, children, and national governments (see Smith and Steffgen, 2013). Despite some similarities with traditional, or face-to-face (f2f) bullying (Mc Guckin, Cummins and Lewis, 2010), there is sufficient difference to warrant this contemporary and detailed examination of the issues related to cyberbullying—from a perspective that draws upon the most pertinent research and informed opinion from key researchers and thinkers from across the globe. Collectively, these papers demonstrate how scholars and policy makers, from disparate disciplinary or stakeholder starting points, are progressing in their understanding of each other’s language and requirements—thus facilitating the important move towards a more coherent and understandable agenda that seeks to minimize the potential risks to children and young people, understand the relationships between involvement in cyberbullying and associated biopsychosocial factors, in order to implement integrated and evidence-informed intervention and prevention programmes.

[In recent years, advanced nanocomposites have attracted a great deal of attention from materials engineers and industrialists due to numerous advantages, including the use of a small amount of nanofillers to significantly enhance the material properties of resulting nanocomposites, widespread applications in a range of fields, such as automobiles, aerospace and aerocrafts, building structures, biomedical devices, etc., as well as easy processibility based on current manufacturing technologies, such as melt compounding, solution casting, in situ polymerisation and electrospinning. Advanced nanocomposites reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene oxides (GOs), nanoclays, nanocellulose, and nanofibres demonstrate excellent multifunctional properties, consisting of better mechanical, thermal, electrical, and barrier properties. The key issue is still the encountered challenge of homogeneous filler dispersion in morphological structures for tailored advanced nanocomposites. Hence, processing-structure-property nanocomposite relationship is crucial for their future development as innovative hybrid material systems. This Special Issue will address above-mentioned points in relation to manufacturing, characterisation, and properties of advanced nanocomposites to offer an insight into this new composite family with the incorporation of nanofillers, nanoparticles, and nanomaterials in order to eventually achieve the nanotechnological "bottom-up" scheme.

    Description: La participation de plus en plus importante de la recherche scientifique aux activités économiques tend à constituer progressivement la Science, y compris dans ses institutions publiques, en enjeu économique essentiel. Or, le rapprochement entre la science et l’industrie est aussi un rapprochement géographique, le voisinage concret d’établissements industriels avec des laboratoires ou des instituts de formation pouvant déboucher sur des collaborations et des échanges. Quelle est l’importance réelle de ces relations locales au-delà des discours euphoriques sur les technopoles, zones d’innovation ou parcs technologiques ? Comment varient-elles d’un site à l’autre ? Comment se construisent-elles concrètement ? Quelles sont les logiques humaines et sociales qui sous-tendent leur développement ? L’analyse de la constitution des pôles français de science appliquée ainsi que de l’évolution des relations locales entre les institutions scientifiques et les entreprises montre à quel point il s’agit d’un phénomène de fond inscrit dans des temporalités plus importantes qu’on ne le croit généralement : certains sites précurseurs des sciences appliquées (Grenoble, Nancy, Toulouse...) restent parmi les plus importants, tant pour le potentiel de recherche appliquée que pour les collaborations locales entre la science et l’industrie. Au-delà du constat de la force de ces échanges locaux et de leurs variations entre les pôles scientifiques, se pose la question des logiques sociales qui les rendent possibles et en résultent tout à la fois. À travers le jeu des trajectoires individuelles et des réseaux locaux se dessinent des systèmes d’action locaux qui forment le cadre des relations entre les organisations. On perçoit alors que derrière le laboratoire ou l’entreprise, ce sont les hommes qui sont à l’œuvre dans ce rapprochement à la fois chaotique et inéluctable entre les sources du savoir et celles de la richesse.

    Description: L’expérience de la musique est omniprésente - on pourrait presque dire banale - dans nos sociétés contemporaines. Cette familiarité masque en réalité de profondes mutations : rapport individuel et collectif à la musique remanié, pratiques anciennes remodelées, traditions réinventées. Or ces transformations affectent peut-être au premier chef les musiciens eux-mêmes. C’est à analyser les réagencements de la pratique musicienne que s’attache cet ouvrage. L’auteur s’appuie particulièrement sur l’expérience singulière des musiciens de bars et des musiciens d’ambiance. Parce qu’ils doivent jouer un répertoire déjà constitué, et si possible connu de tous, ces musiciens ont en effet une pratique qui se situe au croisement des cultures musicales populaires et des cultures musicales médiatiques. Cet entre-deux fournit l’occasion d’étudier les interactions musiciennes, saisies par l’auteur à plusieurs moments de l’expérience musicale - que le musicien soit seul avec son instrument, en répétition, en concert ou en studio. L’enquête sociologique permet alors de saisir les contours d’un imaginaire contemporain en mutation : celui de la figure du musicien.

    Description: O espaço pode ser entendido como uma mediação interativa entre as formas do ambiente construído, resultantes da transformação da natureza, e a vida social que as anima, cuja dinâmica de produção articula dialeticamente as dimensões do percebido, do concebido e do vivido. Assim, o processo de produção e os modos de apropriação do espaço metropolitano de Brasília são os focos de presente análise. Como a configuração espacial de Brasília, marcada pelas descontinuidades do tecido metropolitano e pelas grandes distâncias delas decorrentes, influencia no uso do espaço-tempo quotidiano por parte dos habitantes de sua periferia goiana e oferece possibilidades e/ou limites à realização do direito à cidade? Para responder a essa questão, a realidade da metrópole é discutida em dois aspectos principais: um primeiro, concernente à compreensão do espaço metropolitano como produto sócio-histórico, resultado da concepção dos elaboradores do projeto de construção de uma nova capital para o Brasil e da prática espacial - deles e daqueles que se apropriam desse espaço, também atuando em sua produção - que resultou naquilo que hoje conhecemos como Brasília e seu espaço metropolitano; e um segundo, atinente à passagem da análise do plano discursivo ao plenamente vivido, ou seja, a partir da demonstração, por meio de ideias, conceitos, informações e constatações, de qual espaço metropolitano se trata, busca-se adentrar esse espaço à escala do quotidiano a fim de tentar mostrar o espaço vivido: aquele do qual se apropriam os habitantes de uma periferia distante e supostamente menos integrada que são, na verdade, parte constituinte da metrópole.

    Description: O objetivo desta coletânea é demonstrar como a organização de corpora linguísticos diferentes atende aos diversos tipos de pesquisa linguística, sejam eles centrados numa mesma língua – abordando diferentes fenômenos dessa língua – ou focados em outras línguas naturais. A obraagrega sete pesquisas linguísticas de diferentes estudiosos – que se amparam em aportes teóricos também diversos –,as quais têm como base para coleta de dados a organização de algum tipo de corpus linguístico. De enfoque tanto sincrônico quanto diacrônico, de cunho variacionista e também formalista, os trabalhos englobam os quatro níveis básicos de análise linguística: o fonológico, omorfológico, o semântico e o sintático. Talita de Cássia Marine apresenta, no primeiro capítulo, uma análise descritivo-comparativa do sistema de pronomes demonstrativos do Português do Brasil e do Português de Portugal. Ela analisa cartas de leitoras da revista brasileira Capricho, e da portuguesa Ragazza, para caracterizar a configuração, se ternária ou binária, em que se encontram tais pronomes nas referenciações anafóricas no uso contemporâneo da língua. No capítulo 2, Caroline Carnielli Biazolli avalia o uso de textos jornalísticos como fonte de extração de dados para o estudo de processos de variação e mudança linguística. Seu foco é a posição dos clíticos pronominais, adjungidos a lexias verbais simples e a complexos verbais, e o corpus são textos do jornal A Província de São Paulo (atualmente O Estado deSão Paulo), entre 1880 e 1920. O terceiro capítulo, de Juliana Bertucci Barbosa, apresenta um estudo diacrônico de textos do Português Brasileiro do século 16 ao 20, que procura, entre outros objetivos, verificar valores semânticos do Pretérito Perfeito Simples e do Perfeito Composto do modo Indicativo da língua. Leandro Silveira de Araújo, autor do capítulo 4, baseia-se em um corpus constituído de entrevistas radiofônicas, representativas de umagrande cidade de cada região dialetal da Argentina para estudar o uso doPretérito Perfecto Compuestono espanhol falado no país. No quinto capítulo Alexandre Monte analisa a presença ou a ausência da marca formal de plural no verbo na relação sujeito/verbo, com o objetivo de compreender os fatores linguísticos e sociais que condicionam/determinam a variação linguística no âmbito da concordância verbal. O corpus da pesquisa é uma amostra da língua falada de uma comunidade periférica de São Carlos, interior de São Paulo. As Cantigas de Santa Maria, de Afonso X compostas na segunda metade do século 13 em galego-português, e OsLusíadas (1572), de Camões serviram de corpora para Juliana Simões Fonte e Gladis Massini-Cagliari no estudo apresentado no capítulo 6. As autoras analisam rimas da poesia remanescente de períodos passados da Língua Portuguesa para demonstrar a contribuição de textos poéticos no estudo das vogais do Português Antigo. O último capítulo resume os resultados da tese de doutorado de Daniel Soares da Costa, que organiza a obra. Ele apresenta uma nova proposta metodológica, baseada em uma conexão entre a música e a linguística como ferramenta para a coleta de dados relativos à prosódia de línguas mortas. O autor toma as versões transcritas por Anglés (1943) das cem primeiras Cantigas de Santa Maria de Afonso X para analisar a atribuição do acento lexical e secundário no Português Arcaico.

    Description: 'The Future of Catholic Theological Ethics' undertakes a search for new ways of making Catholic theological ethics relevant. It engages with a ground-breaking publication 'Reframing Catholic Theological Ethics' (Oxford University Press, 2016) by Joseph Selling, Emeritus Professor of Moral Theology, Catholic University Leuven. Selling opens the volume with a summary of the approach he developed in the above work. The papers presented here cover several major themes that, traditionally, Catholic theological ethics have considered but, according to the authors of the papers, need revisiting. Amongst these themes are: conscience, virtue, natural law, authority, ecumenism, the human person and the theology of theological ethics. The writers represent a variety of approaches, geographical locations and while most of them are Roman Catholic, there is an imbedded ecumenism and interreligious and inter-cultural slant in several discussions. The authors agree that Catholic theological ethics, in order to be relevant, it needs to become more context-sensitive, ecumenical, practice-based, experience-oriented, continuously discerning, pedagogically wide-ranging and theologically articulate. It must be unceasingly willing to review and renew its method as well as revisit its key concepts. It must neither dismiss its long tradition nor stick to its single interpretation.

    Description: Now more than ever, as a worldwide STEM community, we need to know what pre-collegiate teachers and students explore, learn, and implement in relation to computer science and engineering education. As computer science and engineering education are not always “stand-alone” courses in pre-collegiate schools, how are pre-collegiate teachers and students learning about these topics? How can these subjects be integrated? Explore six articles in this book that directly relate to the currently hot topics of computer science and engineering education as they tie into pre-collegiate science, technology, and mathematics realms. There is a systematic review article to set the stage of the problem. Following this overview are two teacher-focused articles on professional development in computer science and entrepreneurship venture training. The final three articles focus on varying levels of student work including pre-collegiate secondary students’ exploration of engineering design technology, future science teachers’ (collegiate students) perceptions of engineering, and pre-collegiate future engineers’ exploration of environmental radioactivity. All six articles speak to computer science and engineering education in pre-collegiate forums, but blend into the collegiate world for a look at what all audiences can bring to the conversation about these topics.

The COVID-19 pandemic’s disruption “forced” everyone to use technology for teaching and learning purposes, supporting synchronous and/or asynchronous teaching and learning processes. This book aims not only to present successful practice examples from before or during the COVID-19 pandemic, but also to provide useful information to university teachers, assisting them in further understanding the higher education context, demands and challenges of digital education.     Description: Higher education institutions (HEIs) have a unique role and responsibility for the future and for driving the development of a sustainable society. HEIs are charged with the task of fostering sustainability in the leaders of tomorrow, developing solutions and methods for addressing a sustainable future and ensuring that knowledge is contributed to society. HEIs must also ensure that their everyday operations and practices are consistent with a sustainable future, and that they work toward holistically integrating sustainability into both the mission of a university and its daily tasks. This Special Issue builds on papers presented during the 2018 International Sustainable Campus Network Conference and also includes other contributions. The articles reflect the many aspects of sustainability in higher education institutions and illustrate innovation in approach, outcomes, and impact. The papers cover a range of perspectives on sustainability both on and around campuses. These include organization and management issues, networking and city partnership themes, and metrics and indicators related to sustainable development goals. The Special Issue also includes papers on education, student involvement, and gender issues. Select articles include results from surveys and desktop research; others depict approaches on experimentation, living labs, and action research.

    Description: Por que é importante investigar a indexação durante a catalogação? A resposta é que, por meio de tal procedimento, é possível conhecer as realidades de bibliotecários e usuários. A pesquisa apresentada neste livro se destaca por dois motivos: trata-se de um trabalho coletivo, com objetivos, fundamentação teórica e metodológica comuns; adota uma abordagem sociocognitiva que não só evidencia a tarefa de indexação de assuntos na catalogação de livros por catalogadores, como também privilegia e entrelaça as diferentes visões dos usuários do catálogo, discentes, docentes, pesquisadores, bibliotecários de referência e dirigentes de bibliotecas - grupos que fazem parte do contexto sociocognitivo dos catalogadores, pois são usuários dos resultados da tarefa que realizam. Esta é uma obra de referência para os profissionais de biblioteconomia.

    Description: As reflexões elaboradas neste livro fazem parte dos resultados de tese de Livre Docência em Geografia Urbana da UNESP, campus de Rio Claro que abordou o consumo como categoria de análise. Por meio do entendimento do consumo procurou-se compreender os principais impactos na produção do espaço urbano, na atualidade. Observadas as metrópoles de São Paulo, Lisboa, Seoul e Dubai, construiu-se um pensamento que considera a metrópole como espaço-sedutor. Nesta construção, elaborou-se uma leitura das paisagens do consumo nas referidas metrópoles e várias foram as contradições encontradas nas relações de consumo e na produção do espaço urbano. O reconhecimento das articulações entre a produção, a circulação, o comércio e o consumo, dentro do processo de generalização da mercadoria, também ganhou importância, e assim outros conflitos foram apontados.

    Description: Les migrants internationaux pauvres ont compris le refus d’hospitalité des nations riches. Un grand nombre d’entre eux - autour de 200 000 annuellement pour la France, 600 000 pour l'Europe - ne se présentent plus à nous comme é- ou immigrants, mais comme transmigrants. En perpétuel mouvement entre nations, ils sont devenus les colporteurs du capitalisme marchand moderne. Qui serait plus qualifié que les transmigrants pauvres pour offrir aux grandes firmes mondiales le vaste marché des pauvres, leur milieu naturellement proche, en passant en Europe, à leurs risques, des produits totalement hors taxes et hors contingentements ? Les majors de l’électronique du Sud-Est asiatique ne s'y sont pas trompés en développant l’économie mondiale « horizontale » du poor to poor, « l’entre-pauvres ». À la rencontre des pauvres, ils circulent en France dans les quartiers enclavés, accueillis par des jeunes descendants des immigrants des années 60, qui se reconnaissent de moins en moins dans l’histoire collective que la nation leur propose. Le cosmopolitisme né de ces côtoiements engendre, parmi ces jeunes, une nouvelle sorte d’étrangers qui suivent, sur les chemins européens, les transmigrants du poor to poor, et collaborent aux initiatives des nouveaux migrants internationaux en inaugurant des dispositifs sociaux originaux. Pour certains la route entre les nations, dans un contexte de mondialisation et de transformation des migrations, devient une perspective de « sortie par le bas ».

    Description: Os artigos apresentados neste volume da coleção "Desafios Contemporâneos" têm como objetivo refletir sobre os problemas atuais que marcam o diálogo com o campo acadêmico e científico da Comunicação. Os 18 artigos reunidos aqui contemplam a área de Comunicação e envolvem diferentes linhas de pesquisa. A iniciativa teve como fim expor não apenas as discussões gerais sobre o campo, mas também a experiência singular e atuante dos pesquisadores da Unesp dedicados ao estudo da Comunicação. Três eixos nortearam a organização dos artigos. Entre os temas abordados estão a comparação entre as linguagens jornalística e publicitária, a censura judicial à liberdade de imprensa, o desafio teórico-metodológico na aplicação da antropologia interpretativa ao campo da comunicação, conjunturas e desafios da educação superior em comunicação no Brasil, a focalização da vida operária no cinema de Leon Hirszman pelo filme Eles não usam black-tie, entre outros.

    Description: Interrogar sobre o passado de uma das principais atividades educativas na escolarização inicial de crianças – o ensino de leitura e escrita – é o objetivo central desta obra. Entre as várias contribuições relevantes do livro, uma coletânea de 14 ensaios que abrangem mais de um século, da década de 1870 aos dias atuais, sobressai-se a importância da própria temática para a compreensão da cultura escolar. Os estudos põem em destaque cartilhas, livros de leitura, manuais, textos, artigos publicados em jornais e periódicos, polêmicas em torno dos métodos de ensino e a atuação de quem produziu e problematizou sobre o ensino de leitura e escrita no país. Estão contemplados tanto os interesses econômicos e comerciais subjacentes à produção de materiais para esse ensino quanto as tensões políticas que envolveram as disputas dos educadores, o que permite ao leitor aproximar-se das tematizações, concretizações e normatizações que ao longo do tempo pautaram o debate político e pedagógico sobre a alfabetização no Brasil. O primeiro texto da coletânea trata do método de alfabetização de Thomaz Paulo de Bom Sucesso Galhardo, autor da Cartilha da infância, publicada entre a década de 1880 e o ano de 1992. Seguem-se estudos sobre as experiências de Antonio da Silva Jardim (1860-1891), João Köpke (1852-1926), Ramon Roca Dordal (1854-1938) e Carlos Alberto Gomes Cardim (1875-1938), Arnaldo de Oliveira Barreto (1869-1925), Francisco Vianna (1876-1935), Theodoro de Moraes (1877-1956), Antonio Firmino Proença (1880-1946), Renato Fleury (1895-1980), Lourenço Filho (1897-1970), Antônio D’Ávila (1903-1989), Bárbara V. de Carvalho (1915-2008), Emilia Ferreiro (1935) e João Wanderley Geraldi (1946).

    Description: Ce livre constitue le bilan des recherches archéologiques menées sur plusieurs sites islamiques de la vallée du Flumén, entre Huesca et Saragosse, dans l’ancienne Marche Supérieure d’al-Andalus. Parmi ceux-ci, une attention particulière a été accordée à un établissement connu sous le nom de Las Sillas, à Marcén. La fouille de ce site a révélé la présence d’un important établissement des xe-xie siècles associé à une petite mosquée, ainsi qu’un abondant mobilier qui permet d’entrevoir les activités et l’existence quotidienne des populations rurales à l’égard desquelles les sources arabes se montrent généralement silencieuses. Fondé à l’époque du califat omeyyade (929-1031) et abandonné peu avant la reconquista de la région à l’aube du xiie siècle, ce « village » et les autres établissements étudies traduisent bien la profonde islamisation des campagnes de la vallée de l’Ebre et l’influence des grands lignages urbains en milieu rural.

Para isso, levanta e discute ideias comumente encontradas em textos educacionais “ditos construtivistas”, artigos e obras de seus críticos e, ainda, nas concepções que emergem no discurso de professores, buscando identificar equívocos, distorções e congruências. O principal objetivo da autora é mostrar como o Construtivismo tem sido “desconstruído” na área educacional e recolocar a teoria piagetiana em seus espaços próprios – os da Epistemologia e Psicologia. Ela procura analisar as concepções que considera falsas ou simplesmente desvirtuadas sobre o Construtivismo no âmbito educacional a partir do interior da teoria, ou seja, recorrendo a argumentos que se apoiam nos “propósitos, questões e conceitos que informaram o trabalho científico de Piaget”. O livro foi dividido em três partes. A primeira, intitulada “Construtivismo, psicologia e educação” trata de elucidar os conceitos-chave da teoria piagetiana, recordar como o Construtivismo veio a tornar-se uma corrente hegemônica na Psicologia e mostrar sua trajetória na educação brasileira. A segunda parte (“Uma pesquisa sobre os desvios do Construtivismo em professores do ensino fundamental”) apresenta dados quantitativos acerca desses “desvios”, os principais equívocos dos professores e uma interpretação sobre as causas de tal “assimilação deformante”. A terceira parte, “Piaget e seus intérpretes”, é dedicada aos intérpretes de Piaget, incluindo seus críticos. Aborda os “recados” enviados aos professores por autores construtivistas e os “pecados” contidos em certas ideias que se transformaram, inclusive, em slogans, além de questionar mais um caso de “assimilação deformante”.

    Description: A inclusão escolar de alunos com deficiência impõe-se como tema a ser pesquisado para propor práticas adequadas à nova realidade educacional. Alunos com deficiência visual, por exemplo, começaram a frequentar espaços sociais como a escola sem que antigos paradigmas de normalização de comportamentos tenham sido revistos. Neste livro, Eder Pires de Camargo analisa os saberes que professores do ensino médio devem mobilizar para incluir alunos com deficiência visual em atividades de ensino. Toma como exemplo a interessante experiência de uma disciplina de graduação – Prática de Ensino – na qual futuros licenciados estruturaram e implementaram novas práticas de ensino para turmas mistas. A originalidade e contribuição deste trabalho está em propor atividades desenvolvidas por futuros professores e avaliá-las durante os cursos de licenciatura.

    Description: Contrairement à ce que l’on croit souvent, le marché ne fait pas que dissoudre des liens mais en crée de nouveaux. Partout, communautés de clients, sites de rencontre, régulations marchandes, cartes de fidélité, cadeaux d’entreprise, associations professionnelles, outils du marketing viral, réseaux sociaux électroniques, contrats commerciaux, inventent et font proliférer des formes de liens inédites à partir de la rencontre entre les partenaires de l’échange. Il convient donc d’étudier comment le marché « fait » et « défait » société, et donc « refait » cette dernière, et d’explorer in fine les conséquences de telles transformations.     Description: Voici un livre engagé qui veut témoigner d’un attachement à une culture spécifique, la culture occitane. Loin d’être associée à une vision rétrograde, cette culture surgit du plus profond de chacun d’entre nous. On trouvera ici des témoignages de la vie quotidienne en langue occitane : langue du travail, langue de la vie familiale, langue des échanges sociaux… mais aussi langue de la création inventive, de l’imaginaire fécond. Tout ce patrimoine continue à être transmis : même si la transmission familiale a baissé, la langue reste encore parlée et surtout comprise. L’occitan, langue de culture et de création depuis les troubadours, a traversé les siècles : le renouvellement de la littérature continue de nos jours et des auteurs contemporains explorent de nouveaux genres. On peut affirmer que la culture occitane participe à la pluralité des cultures en France. Car si notre rôle (on pourrait même dire notre obligation) est de mettre en valeur la culture occitane, nous n’en négligeons pas pour autant la culture française dans laquelle nous nous reconnaissons aussi. Ce livre offre 31 articles de spécialistes de toute provenance (universitaires et érudits locaux) qui, avec un regard nouveau, refusent l’enfermement régionaliste. Si le but d’un tel livre est de faire connaître le patrimoine lodévois lié à la langue et d’en démontrer sa richesse, son impact dépasse largement le cadre restreint d’une simple monographie. Il parle de la réalité culturelle occitane qui s’insère dans la culture européenne. Il est certain que le public lodévois sera le premier étonné d’une telle richesse. Par sa diversité, son cadre ouvert, son bilinguisme, cet ouvrage s’adresse à un public très large qui saura y trouver un immense intérêt et en utiliser éventuellement sa vaste documentation.

    Description: Que sait-on de l’expérience des jurés populaires amenés à siéger en cour d’assises et à juger des personnes accusées d’avoir commis un crime ? Pour le citoyen ordinaire, devenu « juge d’un jour », cette expérience lui révèle le monde social sous diverses facettes et l’interpelle sur sa capacité et sa légitimité de juger. Les interactions entre les jurés et les juges professionnels, en l’occurrence les présidents de cour d’assises, mettent en relief des rapports de pouvoir et de domination, sur fond de rituel judiciaire. Lors du délibéré, le fait que les jurés soient censés juger des faits et de la peine selon leur « bon sens » et leur « intime conviction » tandis que les magistrats jugeraient selon le « droit » et la « raison » révèle une hiérarchie subtile au sein de cette association échevine. Os projetos apresentados neste livro realçam explicitamente a importância da extensão universitária como elo responsável pela ligação da pesquisa científica de qualidade e inovadora, desenvolvida no âmbito da universidade, e a série de problemas (ambiental, econômico, educacional, de relacionamento humano, de sustentabilidade, etc.) que se apresentam na sociedade brasileira. Uma relação que se retroalimenta através de interações dialógicas, seguindo o princípio de que a construção do conhecimento deve ser feita a partir dos diversos saberes. Ao assumir esse princípio, a Universidade pública, através de suas ações extensionistas, torna-se mais sensível e porosa para as discussões dos problemas, das carências e dos desafios presentes e permanentes na sociedade brasileira. Nesse sentido, é relevante notar que o conjunto dos capítulos rechaça o entendimento da extensão universitária como uma ação assistencialista ou como prestadora de serviços. O pressuposto norteador é de uma extensão universitária que é portadora de uma ação transformadora em direção à justiça social e ao aprofundamento da democracia, dada sua capacidade de intervenção na dinâmica do território em que atua.

    Description: This book, a Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, has been curated by three leading international experts on the topic. Following their editorial, there are 14 contributions on the topic of interventions against bullying, including cyberbullying, and similar abusive behaviors such as dating violence. Some contributions also assess positive or protective factors such as well-being, self-efficacy, and school climate. Eight of the contributions directly assess the effects of an intervention, with pre/post test designs and experimental and control groups. The other contributions examine a range of relevant topics, such as teacher attitudes and pupils’ confidence in intervening rather than being passive bystanders. Ten countries are represented among the authors. Most of the articles are about secondary schools (pupils, or teachers), but there are also contributions on early childhood, primary school, and university. This book will be of interest and relevance not only to researchers but also to teachers and educational practitioners concerned with pupil safety and well-being in school, and provides practical ways to reduce bullying and its harmful effects.

    Description: Growing evidence shows that a dietary pattern inspired by Mediterranean dietprinciples is associated with numerous health benefits. A Mediterranean-typediet has been demonstrated to exert a preventive effect toward cardiovasculardiseases, in both Mediterranean and non-Mediterranean populations. Part ofthese properties may depend on a positive action toward healthier metabolism,decreasing the risk of diabetes and metabolic-syndrome-related conditions.Some studies also suggested a potential role in preventing certain cancers. Finally,newer research has showed that a higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet isassociated with a lower risk of cognitive decline, depression, and other mentaldisorders.     Description: The Mississippi River Delta is home to more than two million people and is a hub for energy, transportation, and petrochemical industry of national importance in the United States. It is also home to 40% of coastal wetlands in the contiguous United States, which provide natural habitats for hundreds of species of fish and wildlife, as well as for millions of migrating birds in North America each year. However, this delta has been losing land at a rapid speed and its existence is being seriously threatened. A number of factors have contributed to the current situation, including reduced riverine sediment supply, coastal land erosion, subsidence, and sea level rise. In an attempt to determine resilience of the Mississippi River Delta, this book collected 14 articles that present the latest assessments of the river delta in five aspects: 1) riverine processes and sediment availability, 2) sediment deposition and land creation, 3) wetland loss, saltwater intrusion and subsidence, 4) community resilience and planning, and 5) review and synthesis. This holistic approach to investigating a river delta as a coupled natural-human system can be applicable for assessing other populated and industrialized deltaic regions in the world.

    Description: International migration, particularly to Europe, has increased in the last few decades, making research on aspects of this phenomenon, including numbers, challenges, and successes, particularly vital. This Special Issue highlights this necessary and relevant area of research. It presents 37 articles including studies on diverse topics relating to the health of refugees and migrants. Most articles (28) present studies focusing on European host countries. The focus on Europe is justified if we take into consideration the increased number of refugees and migrants who have come to Europe in recent years. However, there are also articles which present studies from countries in other continents. The topics discussed in the Issue include healthcare utilization, infectious diseases, mother and child health, mental health, and chronic diseases. Finding from the included articles indicate that further development of guidelines and policies at both local and international levels is needed. Priorities must be set by encouraging and funding in-depth research that aims to evaluate the impact of existing policies and interventions. Such research will help us formulate recommendations for the development of strategies and approaches that improve and strengthen the integration of migrants and refugees into the host countries.

    Description: Blended learning is not a new topic for educational research in Higher Education (HE). However, before the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, blended learning was studied by a "niche" of researchers and educators interested in technology integration in teaching and learning. It was not difficult to meet HE professionals who had never or only poorly reflected on the topic of how to integrate digital technology in teaching and learning before March 2020. All in all, this special issue provides a deeper understanding of what Blended Learning will be in the near feature, encompassing not the simple combination of online and physical presence, but a combination of delivery tools and media used to provide information and to support interaction, a combination of different methods of instruction and teaching/learning, and a combination of learning contexts.

    Description: Este livro reúne o material destinado às crianças dos primeiros anos do ensino fundamental. A Escola do Meio Ambiente (EMA) está situada numa área composta por cerrado, floresta estacional semidecidual, mata paludosa e floresta implantada de eucalipto, abrigando nascentes e a represa abastecida pelo Ribeirão Lavapés, que atravessa a zona urbana de Botucatu. A partir de investigações realizadas em conjunto com a escola, foram sendo obtidos dados sobre animais silvestres que frequentam as matas e as suas trilhas, por meio de visualização, vestígios, pelos seus rastros, além de imagens obtidas de câmeras fotográficas colocadas em diferentes locais no período noturno. A segunda etapa do trabalho foi realizada por meio de pesquisa de referências científicas sobre esses animais que vivem e passam pela mata da escola, para que fossem criadas as histórias e as ilustrações de cada espécie. Assim, esta edição apresenta 16 narrativas, com o objetivo de mostrar para as crianças que é preciso conhecer o lugar em que vivem e ter uma relação com a natureza para conhecer as espécies animais que estão muito próximas: tatu-galinha, capivara, lobo-guará, sabiá-laranjeira, alma-de-gato, tamanduá-bandeira, tucano, quero-quero, suçuarana, periquitão-maracanã, serelepe, ouriço-cacheiro.

    Description: Segundo livro de Nashieli Rangel Loera sobre o tema, Tempo de acampamento conduzo leitor através do mundo das ocupações, retratando a vida, experiências e objetivos de homens e mulheres que decidem conquistar um pedaço de terra no Brasil por meio dos movimentos populares organizados. Como metodologia, a autora optou por acompanhar no campo a trajetória de duas famílias, avaliando-as segundo as categorias nativas para compreender o significado que conferem às suas próprias experiências: tempo de acampamento,tempo de barraco, tempo de luta e tempo de reforma. Rangel Loera, porém, acompanhou, simultaneamente, o percurso de outros tantos homens e mulheres, a maior parte entre 2002 e 2009, desde os seus primeiros acampamentos. Quando encerrou o trabalho de campo, ela constatou que muitos dos seus interlocutores continuavam a vida peregrina e passou a questionar sobre que outros motivos, além do projeto de “pegar um pedaço de terra”, levariam aquelas pessoas para o mundo das ocupações. Muitos dos integrantes dos movimentos, a autora pontua, almejam também “manter os filhos junto deles” e principalmente “tirá-los da violência da cidade”, enquanto outros buscam um novo sentido para a vida esgarçada e a possibilidade de reconstruí-la. No trajeto até a eventual concretização do sonho as famílias mudam várias vezes de acampamento, voltam para a cidade e retornam, em poucos meses, para as ocupações, desenhando um trajeto caótico de sofrimento, perdas e obrigações cumpridas.

    Description: Contrairement au cliché, hélas encore trop répandu et auquel il est plus nécessaire que jamais de tordre définitivement le cou - ce à quoi s’emploie cet ouvrage -, il y a des individus au Japon… Il y a dans ce pays des singularités, fortes et originales, et pas uniquement dans le domaine artistique ; il y a des individus qui mènent des combats pour leurs droits, et ces combats nourrissent et renforcent la démocratie japonaise. La question de l’individu, qui est depuis le xixe siècle au centre de la réflexion sur la modernité japonaise, est toutefois aujourd’hui âprement discutée au Japon même. Ce qui rend plus complexe encore la perception que l’on peut en avoir. On assiste en effet dans ce pays, au travers de la montée en puissance des idées néolibérales et néoconservatrices, sinon nationalistes, à une tentative de redéfinition de l’individu et des droits individuels qui pourrait aboutir à terme à des changements importants dans la nature même de sa démocratie. Outre l’affirmation de l’existence d’individus japonais, et plus exactement comme condition même de l’existence de ceux-ci, ce sont donc toutes ces questions que l’on trouvera traitées dans cet ouvrage dont l’ambition est de défricher un domaine jusqu’ici peu étudié.

Il signifie la probabilité qu’un enfant d’ouvrier né dans les années soixante a d’obtenir un diplôme d’ingénieur dans les années quatre-vingts. La sociologie s’est longtemps préoccupée des raisons de l’échec scolaire en milieu populaire ; mais, du même coup, elle a négligé les raisons d’éventuelles réussites qui, deux siècles après la Révolution française, restent, à vrai dire, marginales. Qui est cet enfant d’ouvrier sur cinq cents qui réalise une brillante scolarité ? Pourquoi celui-ci réussit-il alors que tous échouent ? Qui sont ses parents et grands-parents ? Quelles sont les raisons sociales et familiales de ce succès exceptionnel ? Quelles en sont les données structurelles et sociétales ? Peut-on repérer quelques-unes des “recettes” de la réussite scolaire en milieu populaire ? Le projet social que se donne la lignée familiale, du fait d’une trajectoire sociale souvent instable et frustrante (mobilité sociale descendante du père par rapport au grand-père, non-respect de l’homogamie entre le père et la mère, immigration familiale, descendance restreinte, arrêt prématuré des études parentales...) est l’élément fondamental et structurant que l’auteur place au centre d’une analyse “socio-généalogique”.

    Description: Este livro resgata o processo de elaboração, percurso e desenvolvimento da Campanha Nacional de Educação Rural (CNER), criada em 1952 e extinta em 1963, no contexto histórico que a ensejou, articulada às ideias hegemônicas do período, determinantes da ação do Estado e de setores da sociedade civil. Movimentos de organizações internacionais e a política nacional pela expansão do desenvolvimento econômico e modernização rural, aliam a educação a essas finalidades. A Campanha adota orientações pedagógicas da Educação de Base e do Desenvolvimento de Comunidade, pressupostos do funcionalismo e do neotomismo, com respaldo da Igreja Católica. Conhecimentos teóricos e técnicos pretendiam ofertar vida compatível com a dignidade humana e com os ideais democráticos para a cidadania. A pesquisa investiga os processos de conquista da cidadania, na perspectiva da contradição, ao explicitar avanços e retrocessos na relação educativa do programa. A análise considerou o conjunto de fontes documentais produzidas para e pela Campanha, como periódicos e acervo iconográfico, localizados em bibliotecas e arquivos. As categorias de análises contemplam temas emergentes para atender às demandas do campo, como: educação, habitação, saúde, lazer e promoção da educação política, para educação dos costumes, para além da alfabetização. O desenvolvimento da cidadania e da democracia pretendidas fundou-se em situações educativas pontuais e na resolução de conflitos sociais mais voltados para os indivíduos e os grupos, e menos como processos decorrentes do interior das práticas sociais. Contudo, a política foi relevante naquele contexto, pois, se não fosse a nossa cultura de descontinuidades e articulação das políticas sociais, as condições de vida e trabalho no campo poderiam ser outras.

    Description: The quality of drinking water is paramount for public health. Despite important improvements in the last decades, access to safe drinking water is not universal. The World Health Organization estimates that almost 10% of the population in the world do not have access to improved drinking water sources. Among other diseases, waterborne infections cause diarrhea, which kills nearly one million people every year, mostly children under 5 years of age. On the other hand, chemical pollution is a concern in high-income countries and an increasing problem in low- and middle-income countries. Exposure to chemicals in drinking water may lead to a range of chronic non-communicable diseases (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular disease), adverse reproductive outcomes, and effects on children’s health (e.g., neurodevelopment), among other health effects. Although drinking water quality is regulated and monitored in many countries, increasing knowledge leads to the need for reviewing standards and guidelines on a nearly permanent basis, both for regulated and newly identified contaminants. Drinking water standards are mostly based on animal toxicity data, and more robust epidemiologic studies with accurate exposure assessment are needed. The current risk assessment paradigm dealing mostly with one-by-one chemicals dismisses the potential synergisms or interactions from exposures to mixtures of contaminants, particularly at the low-exposure range. Thus, evidence is needed on exposure and health effects of mixtures of contaminants in drinking water. Finally, water stress and water quality problems are expected to increase in the coming years due to climate change and increasing water demand by population growth, and new evidence is needed to design appropriate adaptation policies.This Special Issue of International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH) focuses on the current state of knowledge on the links between drinking water quality and human health.

    Description: Cet ouvrage regroupe les actes d’un colloque qui s’est déroulé à Saragosse, du 20 au 22 novembre 2006, avec la collaboration de la Dirección General de Patrimonio Cultural del Gobierno de Aragón, de la Casa de Velázquez, du laboratoire Framespa (UMR 5136 du CNRS - Université de Toulouse 2-Le Mirail) et du Departamento de Cultura de la Diputación Provincial de Huesca. Cette seconde manifestation de la série Villa était consacrée aux relations entre les villes et les campagnes au cours du haut Moyen Âge dans la vallée de l’Ebre et elle regroupait une douzaine d’historiens et d’archéologues français et espagnols. Le programme suivi au cours de ces journées répondait à un itinéraire géographique allant des confins pyrénéens à la vallée de l’Ebre, et de l’Ebre à la Méditerranée. Les communications et les débats ont permis d’apporter d’importants éléments de réponse à la question de la transition entre l’Antiquité tardive et le Moyen Âge, parmi lesquels on retiendra le lent déclin des villes et les nouvelles formes de peuplement rural à partir des vie-viie siècles, l’impact majeur de la conquête arabo-berbère dans ces régions au début du viiie siècle, et la renaissance progressive du fait urbain à partir des ixe et xe siècles.

    Description: This book holds key papers from the fifth conference and community workshop of the International Polar Tourism Research Network (IPTRN), held in the village of Raufarhöfn (population 160) in Northeast Iceland at the end of August 2016.     Description: Tabac, alcool, drogues illicites : ces consommations toxiques constituent pour bien des adolescents l’expression d’un mal-être qu’expliquent en partie l’absence de statut social et le manque de réelles responsabilités citoyennes des jeunes d’aujourd’hui. D’où l’existence, chez eux, d’un singulier rapport au temps. L’emprise et la pression du quotidien ne leur permettent pas de vivre sereinement leur présent et rendent du même coup difficile la construction d’un avenir qui leur apparaît comme incertain et angoissant. De sorte que les jeunes, lorsqu’ils consomment du tabac, de l’alcool et des drogues illicites, recherchent et se créent un "temps à-côté"... Quelles sont les trajectoires qui mènent à ces comportements ? Garçons et filles sont-ils "égaux" en la matière ? Comment financent-ils ces pratiques ? Quel rôle joue le groupe dans ces apprentissages ? Quels en sont les lieux, les moments privilégiés ? "Défonce" ou plaisir, quête de limites ou, paradoxalement, d’une forme de stabilité, quelles significations donner à ces expériences ? Enquêtes par questionnaires, entretiens approfondis, observation participante auprès de groupes d’adolescents et de professionnels de la prévention, ont permis à Sophie Le Garrec de répondre à ces questionnements multiples. En réinscrivant la population étudiée et ses pratiques dans le contexte socio-économique et dans les configurations sociétales qui sont les leurs, l’auteur offre ici la première étude sociologique des polyconsommations toxiques adolescentes.

    Description: Neste livro considerou-se a Análise do Discurso uma disciplina que apresenta princípios metodológicos capazes de contribuir para a compreensão e delimitação de campos científicos e sociais, pois é por meio do jogo de enunciados, permeado por posições ideológicas colocadas em jogo no processo histórico social, que o texto (oral e escrito) é produzido, ou seja, a Arquivística relaciona-se com formações discursivas e formações ideológicas e estão relacionadas ao seu processo de construção histórica. Assim, propõe-se a apresentação de elementos histórico-conceituais que ressaltem as diferenças e semelhanças entre a esfera teórica e a esfera institucional na Arquivística. O problema configurou-se em buscar sistematizar e identificar o discurso institucional e a teoria Arquivística, construindo um paralelo histórico entre o percurso da área em tradições cruciais para a prática e a teoria Arquivística na atualidade. Por meio da análise das práticas teóricas e profissionais a respeito da representação Arquivística na atualidade pelos autores de três correntes selecionadas (brasileira, canadense e espanhola) e como os mesmos são trabalhados nas instituições Arquivísticas federais destes países. Deste modo, objetivou-se por meio do quadro teórico-metodológico da Análise do Discurso compreender como se comportam, se constroem e se desenvolvem esses conceitos na Arquivística, visando a uma possível sistematização conceitual e discursiva da disciplina. Esta análise acorreu em primeira instância a partir de uma análise teórico-histórica das tradições e em segunda instância atores específicos e fundamentais, no caso teórico e das instituições Arquivísticas que centralizam e demarcam o campo de atuação dos arquivistas no caso, os Arquivos Nacionais ou gerais. Chegou-se a delimitação de possíveis formações discursivas na Arquivística uma relacionada ao “tradicionalismo” e outra ao “reformismo”. Conclui-se que a Arquivística possui formações discursivas complexas construídas ao longo de sua trajetória institucional e teórica

Our intention is to show that the religious experience has long been an important part of Hinduism, and should not be dismissed or considered as irrelevant. As a body of scholarship, these articles refine our understanding of the range and variety of religious experience in Hinduism.     Description: O presente estudo inscreve-se no campo das políticas públicas para a infância destacando a questão da educação infantil como um dos direitos da criança. Atualmente, a criança é reconhecida como sujeito pleno de direitos, ganhando a infância maior visibilidade na sociedade, respaldada por dispositivos legais de âmbito internacional. Em contrapartida, os discursos teóricos e a realidade de milhares de crianças em todo o mundo têm revelado o estado paradoxal da condição da criança e da efetivação dos seus direitos. Portanto, o objetivo deste estudo foi o de analisar as concepções de criança, seus direitos e educação infantil apresentadas pelas educadoras das creches de Franca, e de que forma essas categorias são manifestadas nas práticas institucionais. A construção da pesquisa, referenciada na abordagem qualitativa, teve como aporte teórico-metodológico a teoria das representações sociais e o emprego de questionários e entrevistas semiestruturadas como instrumentos metodológicos para a coleta dos dados empíricos, posteriormente analisados pela técnica da análise de conteúdo. Com base nas análises desenvolvidas, constatou-se nos discursos e nas ações das profissionais representações da criança como um sujeito marcado pela condição de "vir a ser", dependente do adulto, frágil e inocente, associadas a um modelo de educação infantil escolarizante e preparatório de futuras aprendizagens. Desta forma, as representações acerca das categorias criança, direitos e educação infantil não favorecem, efetivamente, para que as crianças exerçam a condição de sujeitos de direitos e protagonistas nos espaços institucionais, e para que as creches sejam legitimadas enquanto espaços de exercício da cidadania da infância.

    Description: The eminent Harvard educationalist Howard Garner writes a preface to the Place Model within his Good Project Blog which provides a preface to this timely book. Professional is a slippery term, open to willful abuse, misuse and misunderstanding – as evidenced by the ways in which this chameleon term can be used as both a compliment and an insult. In this book academics from a range of professional fields deconstruct ‘professional’ and reimagine professionals in an age of rapid change where professionals are both increasingly in demand and frequently under threat. Several deploy the lens of Clarke’s Place Model to examine professions including teaching, midwifery, social work, journalism, and optometry. Some papers are empirical and some are based around using the Place Model as a thought experiment. All turn a critical eye on professionals and all find them to be, like all humans, neither devils nor divines (Maya Angelou), but at their best a combination of two indispensable characteristics, trustworthiness and expertise.

    Description: O fenômeno dekassegui tem se destacado no Brasil pelo expressivo contingente de descendentes de japoneses que se desloca para o Japão, em busca de trabalho e de uma poupança financeira, e retorna novamente. Muitos refazem esse ciclo mais de uma vez, em sucessivas idas e vindas, caracterizando um movimento pendular. Esse livro, derivado de uma dissertação de mestrado, aborda a experiência de retorno ao Brasil, do migrante dekassegui, particularmente dos filhos desses migrantes, que acompanharam seus pais nessa saga migratória, ainda pequenos, alguns tendo nascidos no Japão. São relatados e analisados casos de crianças e adolescentes, destacando-se suas dificuldades e desafios no processo de integração ou de reintegração à cultura brasileira, que emergem principalmente no contato deles com o ambiente escolar. O desamparo psíquico no processo de adaptação/readaptação dos filhos de dekasseguis na chegada ao Brasil pôde ser identificado nas crianças e também nos próprios pais dekasseguis. Os pais sentem-se desamparados antes mesmo de retornarem para o Brasil. São inúmeras as dificuldades da família dekassegui na chegada ao Brasil, potencializadas por um sentimento de estranhamento do ambiente que antes era bastante familiar e de um estranhamento de si mesmo. Além disso, os pais se defrontam com a questão da identidade cultural de seus filhos, fortemente enraizada na cultura japonesa, o que não se tornava tão evidente quando viviam no Japão. A língua será o principal indicador das raízes mais profundas da identidade cultural dos filhos e o desafio maior a ser enfrentado. Também o fator idade, o tempo de permanência no exterior e o grau de escolaridade em que essas crianças se encontram no ato da imigração acabam contribuindo para as dificuldades de adaptação/readaptação à escola. No entanto, apesar de muitas dificuldades e desafios a serem enfrentados, os dekasseguis e seus filhos trazem consigo, no retorno, um capital cultural inestimável que precisa ser valorizado e aproveitado.
