    Millimeter-Wave Radio-over-Fiber Links based on Mode-Locked Laser Diodes (2021)

    Beschreibung: Radio communications in the range of 60 GHz enable multi-Gigabit/s network access in indoor environments. Due to the propagation characteristics of such signals only very short range radio transmission is feasible. In order to distribute these signals across large distances, analog transmission over optical fiber is considered. In this work, mode-locked laser diodes serve as optoelectronic oscillators for the generation of such signals. Their system-relevant properties are studied in detail.

    Beschreibung: Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde eine Plattform zur individuellen Ansteuerung einer Vielzahl thermisch aktivierter Mikroventile und aktoren, auf Grundlage eines Phasenüberganges, zum Einsatz in der Mikrofluidik entwickelt. Ventile dienen dazu den Fluidstrom in komplexen mikrofluidischen Systemen, aus Einsatzgebieten wie der Biologie, Chemie oder Biotechnologie, zu manipulieren. Mit steigender Komplexität der Mikrosysteme steigt auch die Anzahl der benötigten, individuell steuerbaren Mikroventile.

    Beschreibung: The aim of this work was to identify the patterns that can induce heating around implanted cardiac pacemakers during MRI and to develop strategies to counteract them. Two approaches were taken: computer simulations of the occurring electromagnetic field distributions and in-vitro experiments using phantoms in real MRI devices, both for conventional bore-hole and new open MRI systems. Using the open MRI, the observed heating could be reduced significantly.

Die charakteristischen Schwingungseigenschaften, bedingt durch das usammenwirken von Spiel, auskragender Last und Schwerkraft, werden experimentell untersucht und durch ein 5-Massen-Modell sehr gut abgebildet.Sowohl mit aktiven als auch mit passiven Maßnahmen lassen sich die Schwingungen schnell und deutlich reduzieren.

Mit Hilfe des Kanalmodells können drahtlose Zugkommunikationssysteme unter Berücksichtigung der hohen Zeitvarianz in optimaler Weise ausgelegt werden. Aus der Untersuchung verschiedener Einflüsse werden richtungsweisende Regeln für die Auslegung solcher Systeme abgeleitet und ein entsprechendes OFDM-System vorgeschlagen.

Durch die Einhaltung von Mindestabständen und Mindestholzdicken soll hierbei ein Versagen des Holzes durch Aufspalten verhindert werden. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde ein Verfahren entwickelt, mit dem sich die Anforderungen an Abständen und Holzdicken effizienter und zuverlässiger als bisher bestimmen lassen.

    Beschreibung: Fracture of storage particles is considered to be one of the major reasons for capacity fade and increasing power loss in Li-ion batteries. In this work, we tackle the problem by merging a coupled model of mechanical stress and diffusion of Li-ions with a phase field description of an evolving crack. The novel approach allows us to study the evolution of the Li concentration together with the initiation and growth of a crack in an arbitrary geometry and without presuming a specific crack path.

    Beschreibung: Within the bioliq®-process, the organic phase of straw pyrolysis condensates can be gasified directly, while the aqueous phase can be mixed with char to form a slurry, which also can be gasified. For production and storage, several mixers and stirrers are examined. Grinding the porous and elongated char particles decelerates sedimentation and also reduces the viscosity. Thus, higher concentrated slurries can be mixed, which leads to higher stability.

Diese Risiken und die Gewissheit, dass Rumänien und seine Städte wieder von einem Starkbeben betroffen werden, bildeten die Motivation der Arbeit, erkennend, dass Schadensminderung mit moderner Wissenschaft und Technik sowie mit konsequenter Implementierung des Wissens möglich und aussichtsreich ist.

Due to the highly dynamic oscillatory motion, the stiffness requirements to the tool structure and the basic machine have to be considered, which is the main purpose of this work. Based on these results, a concept of a mechanical adaption of the oscillating disc cutting process to an excavator attachment tool will be developed and tested on a prototype.

Investigations were focussed on the distribution of arsenic in sediments and shallow groundwater of two representative study sites. All results were combined in an effort to develop a conceptional model describing the mobility of arsenic in West Bengal aquifers.

In this study an analytical model with a high spatial resolution, designed for stochastic simulations of flood-related precipitation, is developed, evaluated and applied to different investigation areas in Germany.

    Beschreibung: ECG recordings provide diagnostic relevant information on the de- and repolarisation sequences of the heart. A modification of the repolarisation sequence is assumed to cause Torsades de Pointes. Especially drug induced effects on the repolarisation processes are in focus, since some non-cardiac drugs have been associated with sudden cardiac death in the 1990s. The analysis of the ventricular repolarisation using a set of parameters depicting the morphology of the T-wave is introduced in this work. Therefore, new methods of fully automatic patient-specific QRS detection, beat classification and precise T-wave delineation are presented. Using these methods, medical studies are investigated regarding the modification of the T-wave by different compounds. Also the impact of the heart rate on the morphology of the T-wave is part of this research.The reliable identification of ventricular ectopic beats allows an analysis of the influence of these beats on subsequent heart beats. It turned out that the morphology of subsequent heart beats can significantly be changed. This might give new information on the proarrythmical risk of ventricular ectopic beats.

Die Arbeit stellt ein neuartiges Verfahren zur Entschwefelung vor, bei dem nur der für die Brennstoffzelle bestimmte Teil des Einsatzstroms verdampft und in der Gasphase mit rezykliertem Wasserstoff aus der Brenngaserzeugung entschwefelt wird. Initially, several surface modification techniques described in literature were implemented and optimized for impedimetric biosensors but their individual limitations rendered them unsuitable for this biosensor platform. A novel method based on photobleaching was developed and tested showing satisfactory results.

Further increase of SOFC efficiency can be achieved by microstructural optimization of the oxygen-ion conducting electrolyte and the mixed ionic-electronic conducting cathode. By application of nanoscaled thin films, the exceptionally high efficiency allows the realization of mobile SOFCs.

Emissions were examined in detail. In addition, the flame propagation is evaluated experimentally.

The results indicate that the strength of the anticipatory electrodermal activity is systematically related to situational factors of a traffic situation. In addition, a model was derived that postulates an inverted U-shaped relationship between driver’s experience and anticipatory electrodermal activity.

    Beschreibung: To estimate the reachable specific energy and power of aqueous Li-air batteries, a physical based model was developed, which for the first time includes the microstructure of Li-air cells. Parameters like solid/liquid interface resistances were quantified with help of a newly developed setup. Simulations based on the developed model revealed that even conservative estimations promise an increase in the specific energy by at least a factor of two compared to present Li-ion batteries.

The capability of the sensor to discriminate between polymerized and unpolymerized coatings on metal substrates down to a coating thickness of less than 16µm is demonstrated and and proved by reference measurements.

    Omnidirectional Stereo Vision for Autonomous Vehicles (2021)

    Beschreibung: Environment perception with cameras is an important requirement for many applications for autonomous vehicles and robots. This work presents a stereoscopic omnidirectional camera system for autonomous vehicles which resolves the problem of a limited field of view and provides a 360° panoramic view of the environment. We present a new projection model for these cameras and show that the camera setup overcomes major drawbacks of traditional perspective cameras in many applications.

    Beschreibung: Hot-electron bolometers are fast and low noise radiation detectors which can be used for many different applications. The aim of this work was to optimize the fabrication process of hot-electron bolometers and gain a deeper understanding of the underlying processes. To achieve this, the fabrication of the superconducting thin films was optimized and the superconducting properties of the films were analyzed. Detectors fabricated using the results showed a record value for the noise temperature.

    Beschreibung: We have developed a microfluidic two-layered channel system based on polycarbonate to investigate the transmigration of cancer cells under flow conditions and defined shear rate using live cell microscopy. The two layers are separated by a porous membrane with an endothelial monolayer on top of the membrane to mimic the blood vessel wall. To extend the measuring capabilities of our microfluidic chip, gold electrodes were structured on the membrane using optical lithography and chemical etching.

    Beschreibung: Zahlreiche Anwendungen erfordern das Lokalisieren der Emissionsquelle bestimmter Luftbeimengungen. Beispiele hierfür sind die Leckageer-kennung in Gefahrenstofflagern und die Luftqualitätsüberwachung von Deponien. Die Grundlage einer solchen Quellenlokalisierung stellen räumlich verteilte Online-Konzentrationsmessungen dar, die beispiels-weise durch so genannte Elektronische Nasen ermöglicht werden.In dem vorliegenden Buch werden ausgehend von einem geometrischen Zugang neue, zweistufige Verfahren zur Quellenlokalisierung für die Ausbreitung durch turbulente Diffusion und Advektion vorgestellt.Grundidee des geometrischen Zugangs ist es, zunächst für jeden Sensor die Menge aller Punkte zu bestimmen, auf der sich aus der Sicht des einzelnen Sensors die Quelle befinden kann. Durch Bilden der Schnittmenge für mehrere Sensoren lässt sich dann daraus der Quellort ermitteln. Die entwickelten Verfahren umgehen die numerischen Schwierigkeiten der klassischen ausgangsfehlerbasierten einstufigen Verfahren (Maximum-likelihood-Schätzung) und liefern zudem Aussagen zur Existenz und Eindeutigkeit von Lösungen, zur Lage von Mehrfachlösungen sowie zur geeigneten Platzierung der Sensoren für die Quellenlokalisierung.Zahlreiche Simulationen und Experimente in einem industriellen Chemikalienlager belegen die Leistungsfähigkeit der neuen Verfahren.

    Beschreibung: Throughput in manual order picking systems with narrow aisles suffers from congestion as pickers cannot pass each other. Only few models incorporate congestion but they have very strict assumptions. In this work, queueing theory is used to analyze systems with traversal routing as well as different storage policies. The models are able to estimate throughput for many alternative designs in a relatively short amount of time. New guidelines for narrow-­aisle order picking systems are introduced.

Die Überwachung der Gefahrenbereiche erfolgt berührungslos, mit Infrarot-, kapazitiven Sensoren und einem Kamerasystem. Die einzelnen Informationen werden in einem Bayesschen Netz fusioniert. Parallel hierzu läuft die Gefahrenanalyse. Das System arbeitet zuverlässig und ausreichend schnell. Das vorgestellte System ermöglicht eine Steigerung der Arbeitssicherheit.

    Beschreibung: Ziel dieser Arbeit war die Entwicklung integriert optischer Polymersensoren. Dazu wurden, auch durch Massenfertigungstechnologien, verschiedene Integrationskonzepte umgesetzt. Ein Schwerpunkt lag auf der Integration photonischer Kristallschichten mit Kanälen in Teflon und Polymethylmethacrylat. Zudem wurde die Geometrieoptimierung photonischer Kristallschichtkavitäten diskutiert. Hier wurde ein genetischer Algorithmus entwickelt, der eine bisher unbekannte Kavitätengeometrie liefert.

    Beschreibung: In this book, a new procedure to analyze lithium-ion cells is introduced. The cells are disassembled to analyze their components in experimental cell housings. Then, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, time domain measurements and the Distribution function of Relaxation Times are applied to obtain a deep understanding of the relevant loss processes. This procedure yields a notable surplus of information about the electrode contributions to the overall internal resistance of the cell.

    Beschreibung: In this work, a maskless lithography device based on a micro-mirror array was designed and built. Single projection frames are seamlessly projected next to each other. Microfluidic chips of several cm² size comprising channels of 50 µm have been built of various polymers via direct lithography and casting. Also, bio-chemical ligand patterns comprising 256 different ligand densities have been created in a few seconds on a 5 mm² substrate with pixel sizes of a few µm.
