Die Tosylate I, n = 7 und 8, liefern nach Formolyse und anschließender alkalischer Esterhydrolyse quantitativ die zugehörigen Carbinole VI; bei optisch aktivem I, n = 7, vollzieht sich die Umsetzung mit 100-proz. Retention, wie es ein Phenonium-Ion als Zwischenstufe verlange. Die Acetolyse von I, n = 7, ergibt 83% VI, n = 7, mit 89-proz. Retention neben 9% Olefin VII, n = 7. Auch die Formolyse von I, n = 9, ist von Olefinbildung begleitet. Die Formolyse des β-Tetralyl-tosylats. (I, n = 6) führt zu Gemischen von β-Tetralol, 1.2- und 1.4-Dihydronaphthalin; bei der Acetolyse und Hydrolyse tritt zusätzlich noch α-Tetralol auf. Die produktbestimmenden Schritte der Solvolysen werden diskutiert.
