Electrolytic Titration Without an Outside Source of Current. Determination of acids and sulphur, and the electrolytic reduction of manganese, chromium and vanadiumIn electrolytic titration, a chemical substance is neutralized, oxidized or reduced at the electrodes by the electric current. The quantities are then determined from Faraday's Law by multiplying the current intensity by the time. The use of titration solutions is therefore superfluous. One requirement is, however, a good current stability, for which purpose extensive appliances have in many cases been developed. These become unnecessary, however, if the electric current is produced within the analytical vessels themselves by having a zinc electrode, which is separated from the solution by a diaphragm, short-circuited, over an ammeter, with a platinum electrode. The current intensity can easily be regulated by altering the depth of immersion of the zinc electrode.
Notes:
