Description: Wood is one of the traditional materials used in construction applications, and there is a wide range of engineered wood products available for construction. Engineered wood is a wood product derived from wood waste and byproducts such as sawdust from hardwoods and softwoods. Engineered wood types include particleboard, plywood, fiberboard, oriented strand board (OSB), laminated veneer lumber (LVL), glued laminated timber (GLT), and cross-laminated timber (CLT). This book provides a detailed introduction to the development history of engineering wood and its raw materials, applications, and advantages and disadvantages. It also compares different types of engineering wood and discusses modification of engineering wood, testing standards for mechanical properties of engineering wood, anti-corrosion, and degradation.

Description: Plastics are crucial materials that are used in daily life. They are manufactured and used until they become waste that negatively impacts the environment and public health. These plastic wastes break down into small particles known as microplastics (MPs) via changes in environmental conditions (i.e., sunlight, temperature, weathering, and irradiation). This reduction in size increases the toxic potential of MPs. This book provides a comprehensive overview of MPs, including the challenges and advances in their effective removal from our environment.

Description: This book examines a new field of nature-mimicked nanotechnology and chemical manipulation, focusing on the mechanisms, principles, and manufacturing of self-cleaning surfaces and describing how these materials can be created for scalable production. Self-cleaning ability on the topmost surfaces of materials increases a product’s value for applications in microfluidics, lap-on-chip, microreactors, air purification, and more. An easy way to obtain self-cleaning properties is by creating superhydrophobic surfaces so water droplets can roll down, picking up dirt particles on the way. This book provides a comprehensive overview of self-cleaning properties in nanotechnology. It includes six chapters that address such topics as the fabrication and applications of biomimetic superhydrophobic materials, self-cleaning surfaces of different plants, self-cleaning polyurethane surfaces, self-cleaning approaches using plasma, and laser technology for superhydrophobic self-cleaning applications.
