    Description: Primary school is considered very worthy for all learning process; actually, one of its goals is to assist pupils in developing basic skills, such as writing, reading a numeracy, before dealing with other subjects for a successful lifelong learning career. This book aims to provide ideas and suggestions in order to improve teaching in Mathematics at primary school, by collecting some studies submitted at IV edition of the Seminar “INVALSI data: a research and teaching tool” held in Roma in November 2019. Thanks to INVALSI data, researchers and teachers can strengthen the necessary partnership to wonder about numeracy learning processes and to improve teaching activities.

    Description: INVALSI Statistical Service has been organizing the Seminar “INVALSI data: a research tool” for many years. It’s an event which is becoming more and more important for all those who have an interest in discussing and sharing ideas, studies and experiences, from different points of view, about what INVALSI data could tell for teaching and research to several stakeholders. In this issue, the main core topic is about academic achievement and its conditioning factors. Educational results are both outcomes of single student’s engagement and consequence of a more complex process which involves the family, the school community and the wider context. This book has ten chapters and it includes some studies and researches, based on different theoretical and methodological approaches, made during the III edition of the Seminar, held in Bari from 26th to 28th October 2018, which could be a helpful insight in order to explore and deepen the main issue.

    Description: One of the main goals of the Italian National Evaluation System, since its establishment in 2013, is to strengthen the link between improvement and evaluation. Over the years, after some resistance, schools began to reflect about their activities and organization, having thus the real chance to explore new enhancing paths. This increasing awareness has contributed to broaden studies and educational research. The Seminar “INVALSI data: a research tool” organized for several years by the Statistical Service of INVALSI, gives also to headmasters and teachers (in addition to researchers) the opportunity to show and share ideas, suggestions, best practices, and trials.     Description: The Improvement Plan (better known as PdM, that is Piano di Miglioramento) was introduced in school agenda in 2015. Since then, both teachers and administrative staff have worked in a process of change and enhancement in two main areas: teaching/learning and organization/management ones. Consequently, it began to flourish implementing projects in order to find the best solutions to reach the main school goal: providing the educational success to all students, with respect for their several differences.     Description: Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development is a shared action plan for people, for the planet and for prosperity, adopted in September 2015 by the 193 United Nations (UN) Member States. The guidelines of this journey are summarized by 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the associated 169 Targets approved by the UN, with the shared aim to reach them by 2030. The volume, composed of 7 chapters, discusses 3 of the SDGs: to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, to achieve gender equality and to reduce economic inequality within and across national borders. The INVALSI database provided a valuable resource to the authors to investigate the characteristics of the Italian school system. We wish the volume reading encourages the discussion about possible ameliorative interventions and it is a starting point to measure potential progress.

    Description: Starting from the binomial education/nature, the book explores issues relating to the broad field of outdoor education, in a choral analysis that aims to restore the plurality of approaches, choices and possible nuances. The text, in fact, develops the reflection in different directions through perspectives that come from different disciplinary fields (anthropological, architectural, biological, geographical, naturalistic, pedagogical and didactic, psychological, ethical...), but all aimed at overcoming reductionist visions that risk to reduce the debate on the subject and not guarantee the possibility of impact and change. What emerges is a legitimate and credible multi-faceted approach which, rather than synthesising and reducing, opens up further fields of research in a public debate that can no longer be delayed.     Description: Over the years, interest in data has always grown and, aware of their centrality, many institutions, both public and private, share their data to facilitate the work of all those who wish to use them to interpret phenomena. In the education field, the data produced by INVALSI undoubtedly have a leading role, both at a sample and census level. The availability of data on learning achievements and living conditions of students (the so-called “context data”), as well as on the professional and operational conditions of teachers and School Managers, collected through specific questionnaires, is a valuable source of information based on which it is possible not only to plan improvement interventions in the didactic field, but also to undertake stimulating paths of educational research. This volume hosts four research papers, presented within the III Seminar “INVALSI data: a research tool”, which took place in Bari from 26 to 28 October 2018. Thanks to the INVALSI data, the authors conducted interesting in-depth analysis of various aspects relating to the Italian education system.
