Description: Radiocarbon was measured on mono-specific samples of between 30 and 350 individual foraminiferal tests taken from five different sediment cores. Single samples were taken at each depth with the aim of developing a down-core age-depth model. For cores GeoB10058-1, GeoB10054-4, GeoB10066-7 and OR1-1218-C2-BC, radiocarbon dating was performed by Accelerated Mass Spectrometry (AMS) using a Mini Carbon Dating System (MICADAS) (Wacker et al. 2010) at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven, Germany, and following standard operating procedures. Samples were measured using a graphite target, except for the single sample from OR1-1218-C2-BC with only 30 specimens, for which a gas target was used. Blanks were processed and correction performed according to a procedure in Sun et al. (2020). Radiocarbon dating of the bulk samples from core SO213-84-2 was carried out on the 15th of May 2014, at NOSAMS, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Keck Carbon Cycle AMS Laboratory, University of California, Irvine.

Description: Samples for dissolved (〈0.2 µm) copper (Cu) in deep-sea pore waters from the Clarion Clipperton Zone, eastern German license area for polymetallic nodule mining in the Pacific Ocean, were collected with a multicorer in 2018 during cruise SO262. Samples were obtained at 2 cm intervals for the upper 20 cm of sediment through centrifugation and filtration through 0.2 µm polycarbonate syringe filters for trace metal analyses. The goal of this was to assess trace metal concentrations in pore waters and spatial heterogeneity. Samples were analyzed in 2019 by quadrupole ICP-MS in kinetic energy discrimination (KED) mode.

Description: This data set presents dissolved copper (dCu) and copper-binding ligand (L) data for deep-sea pore waters in the Peru Basin, south east equatorial Pacific Ocean and the Clarion Clipperton Zone (CCZ) in the central equatorial Pacific Ocean. Samples were taken during cruises SO242, SO262, and SO268 using rhizons with a pore size of 0.12-0.18 µm. Several depths from one multicorer liner were pooled to get sufficient sample volume. dCu was determined by either ICP-MS analysis in kinetic energy discrimination mode or by competitive ligand equilibration–adsorptive stripping voltammetry (CLE-AdCSV). Cu speciation in the samples was also determined with CLE-AdCSV using salicylaldoxime (SA) as the added ligand. For each titration, the concentration of complexing ligands ([L]) and corresponding conditional stability constants (logK) were determined using the fitting software named ProMCC. The free copper ion (Cu2+) and bioavailable Cu' (Cu2+ + inorganic copper) were also calculated. Data was fitted using both the one-ligand and two-ligand complete complexation-fitting model. The model with the best fit and thus the least fitting error was used for data interpretation - this was always the one-ligand model. Side reaction coefficients and stability constants of SA of each sample were provided by van den Berg's ion-pairing model for seawater (EXCEL worksheet - ion-pairing model for seawater, written by C.M.G. van den Berg in 2014) using sample specific salinity values measured in the lab, a SA concentration of 5 µM, an ambient temperature of 21˚C, and a pH of 8.1.

Description: A set of eight ice-tethered buoy systems (2019O1 to 2019O8) were deployed by the Akademik Fedorov in the Northern Laptev Sea in early October 2019 as part of the MOSAiC Distributed Network. Each buoy consisted of 5 Seabird SBE37IMP Microcat CTDs mounted along an inductive modem tether at depths of 10, 20, 50, 75 and 100m. The buoys were installed on stable sea ice floes (designated as “M-sites”) at a distance of 15-35 km around the main MOSAiC ice camp, and co-located with Snow Buoys, Ice Mass Balance Buoys and D-TOP ocean profilers. The individual instruments were programmed to record oceanographic data internally at 2-minute intervals. The surface unit of the buoy prompted the instruments for an additional measurement every 10 minutes, which was then transmitted to a base station via iridium along with GPS position and time, as well as surface temperature. After a several months long drift through the Central Arctic Ocean, 4 out of 8 buoys were recovered in August 2020, and the internally recorded data from the CTDs were secured. The attached zip archive comprises the unprocessed 10-minute data transmitted by buoy 2019O7 (.txt file). Since this buoy was not recovered, additional data from the individual CTDs is not available. A processed and quality controlled version of this dataset will be supplemented and linked to upon completion. A link to a data paper describing the processing will be given below.

Description: This is a dataset of a hot-wire anemometer package attached to a tethered balloon. The tethered balloon was operated from an ice floe next to Polarstern during leg 1, 2, and 3 of the MOSAiC (Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate) expedition. The tethered balloon measurements were taken on 35 days between 2019-12-06 and 2020-05-06 (during polar night and spring). The dataset includes vertical profiles of turbulence measurements up to typically around 600m (~200m to ~1450m).

Description: During the “Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC)” in 2019/2020 a Distributed Network (DN) of autonomous stations (buoys) was installed on the sea ice and drifted across the Arctic Ocean. This network consisted of 〉200 individual devices ranging from simple position buoys to complex and interdisciplinary multi-sensor platforms. Most (complex) measurements were performed on sea ice floes (sites or nodes) by co-located instruments. These sites were called medium (M) and large (L) sites. In addition, autonomous instruments were operated in the Central Observatory (CO), which consisted of the research ice breaker Polarstern and the adjacent ice camp. Initially, 4 L and 9 M sites were installed around the CO in a distance of up to 40 km. However, their distances and relative positions changed over time due to the drift of the ice pack over time. Over the course of the MOSAiC expedition, 3 different COs were established because of re-locations of RV Polarstern: CO1 started with the first drift of Polarstern on 04 October 2019; CO2 started with the second drift on 19 June 2020; and CO3 started with the third drift on 21 August 2020.
