EN: This dataset is composed of the transcripts of four focus group interviews for the Immigrant German Election Study. The project aims to conduct the first Immigrant German Election Study for the federal election in 2017, targeting German citizens with an immigrant background, i.e. people who either migrated to Germany themselves (first generation) or have at least one parent who was born in another country (second generation). The Immigrant German Election Study encompasses a qualitative and a quantitative phase. The first qualitative stage of the project (October 2016 until July 2017) explored the issue and candidate orientations of migrants. The results were used for a publication as well as for the development of the questionnaire for the quantitative stage. The core questions are: Which political issues are classified as important to all Germans/all migrants from the same group? What political issues do Germans of immigrant origin perceive as "left" and "right"? What are the identity contents that Germans of migrant origin associate with being German? We used focus group interviews as the research method in the Duisburg/Cologne area that consisted of 5-6 participants each and lasted for about 90 minutes. The research data originating from the quantitative phase have been archived at GESIS Data Archive.

Description: We provide a database of the coseismic surface ruptures produced by the 21 August 2017 Md 4.0 earthquake that struck the Casamicciola Terme village in the north of Ischia volcanic island (Italy). Despite its small size, the earthquake caused two fatalities and heavy damages in a restricted area of a few square kilometers. The shallow hypocentral depth of the earthquake caused a significant coseismic surface faulting, testified by a main alignment of ruptures mapped for a 2 km end-to-end length along the Casamicciola E-W trending normal fault system, bounding the northern slope of Mt. Epomeo. Casamicciola Terme has been recurrently destroyed in the last centuries by similar volcano-tectonic earthquakes (1762, 1767, 1796, 1828, 1881, and 1883). After the catastrophic 1883 Casamicciola event (2343 casualties), this is the first heavy damaging earthquake at Ischia that provides, for the first time, the opportunity of integrating historical seismicity, macroseismic observations, instrumental information, and detailed mapping of coseismic geological effects. We performed a detailed field surveys in the epicentral region of the 21 August earthquake to describe the ruptures geometry and kinematics of the seismogenetic fault responsible of the earthquake with the aim of contributing to the seismic hazard evaluation and land use planning in the Ischia island, one of the most crowded touristic destinations worldwide. Summarizing our study of ground effects for the 21 August 2017 earthquake is important for improving knowledge on surface earthquake in the volcanic area and contributing to complete the gap of empirical scaling relating to the surface-faulting mechanism due to small-size or moderate earthquakes in volcano-tectonic framework. The collected field observations result in a dataset of 88 georeferenced records describing coseismic ruptures/fractures by features as ID number, time of sample collection, location (latitude, longitude, elevation), type of rupture, type of affected substratum, attitude (dip angle, dip direction, strike), surface offset (opening, throw, strike slip, net slip), kinematics, slip vector attitude, width of the deformation zone.

Description: This dataset consists of archaeological assessments of human land use across parts of the Middle East (Mesopotamia and Arabia) ca. 6000 BP (4000 BCE). The assessments have been made on the basis of published archaeological site locations, zooarchaeological and paleobotanical data, paleoenvironmental reconstructions, radiocarbon dates, and environmental data. Data dating to the time window 4250-3750 BCE have been included in the analysis. References and decision rules informing the assessments are detailed in Morrison et al forthcoming. Information on land use patterns are recorded using a classification system published in Morrison et al forthcoming. The assessments are recorded in a geospatial polygon shapefile consisting of a grid of 8x8 kilometer squares in the Eckert IV projection system. Included text files contain tables with domains (descriptions of the coded values in the attribute table of the shapefile). The data have been produced as part of LandCover6K, a collaborative working group of archaeologists, historians, geographers, paleoecologists and modelers aiming to improve the basis for incorporating past land cover change into earth system models. LandCover6k seeks to do this by producing global reconstructions of past vegetation and human land use through time that are grounded in paleoenvironmental and archaeological data. The present dataset is a regional contribution to this global effort.
