Description: Behavior of different planar multilayer periodic structures due to plane wave excitation has been studied using the transfer matrix method. Multilayer structure is composed of odd number of slabs and the layers at odd locations have same characteristics and layers at even locations have same characteristics. For each structure, layers at odd locations are of chiral nihility metamaterial whereas three different cases are considered for layers at even locations, i.e., dielectric, chiral and chiral nihility. Effects of polarization rotation due to the optical activity of material's chirality is studied with respect angle of incidence and frequency in THz region. Chiral nihility adds property of transparency to the structure for normal incidence. Chiral nihility-chiral nihility structure for normal incidence yields transparency whereas same structure for oblique incidence yields total rejection at higher frequencies. Description: The contact behavior between a transversely isotropic piezoelectric material and a rigid-conducting punch of flat-end was analyzed under the condition that there is no biased-electric potential applied to the punch. Two limiting cases were studied; one was for semi-infinite piezoelectric materials and the other for piezoelectric films with contact radius much larger than the film thickness. Analytical relationships were derived between the indentation load and the indentation depth and between the indentation-induced potential and the indentation depth. Both the indentation load and the indentation-induced potential are proportional to the indentation depth. For the adhesive contact, the pull-off force is proportional to the 3/2 power of the punch radius for semi-infinite piezoelectric materials and to the square of the punch radius for piezoelectric films. The piezoelectric charge coefficient determined from the contact deformation of a piezoelectric film with contact radius much larger than the film thickness is only dependent on dielectric constant and piezoelectric constant. Description: This paper deals with the novel structure and coupling analysis of a 3-degrees of freedom (3-DOF) conical magnetic bearing. The conical stators of the bearing are designed symmetrical to provide the axial control exclusively, and the radial stators are separated by nonmagnetic material between X and Y channels, so the magnetic flux path can be separated among different channels. The configuration and working principle of the bearing are provided, and the mathematical model is derived based on the bias and control magnetic circuits. In order to evaluate the degree of force coupling between different channels, the concept of coupling factor is proposed, which is defined as the ratio of force variation caused by coupling to the original force when there is no coupling. The coupling factors are analyzed not only among the translational movement of X, Y and Z channels but also between the translational and rotational degrees of freedom. The calculation results show that although the component coupling factors of each magnetic poles are a little larger, the resultant ones in X, Y and Z directions of the designed bearing are all less than 4%. Therefore, the magnetic forces and torques of different channels are weakly coupled, and it is convenient for the control of the magnetic bearing. Description: In order to improve recycling quality of asphalt mixtures based on microwave heating, thermoelectric coupling theory is researched. Heat conduction equation is built according to Fourier's Law. Series model, parallel model and Maxwell model are studied to solve thermal conductivity of asphalt mixtures. Radiation field model of pyramidal horn antenna is set up and mean value of electric field intensity is measured by experiment. Thermoelectric coupling model is built on the basis of dielectric property of asphalt mixtures. Numerical simulation is performed for the model. It is found that influence of asphalt-aggregate ratio on temperature field is not distinct. Average temperature of asphalt mixtures is related to microwave power and increases with microwave power linearly. The asphalt mixtures using diorite as aggregate have a strongest adsorption capability to energy. The result can simulate hot in-place regeneration process, and has important significance to improve regeneration quality of asphalt mixtures. Description: This work provides a distributed fault-tolerant event region detection algorithm for wireless sensor networks. The proposed algorithm can identify faulty and fault-free sensors and ignore the abnormal readings to avoid false alarm. Moreover, every event region can also be detected and identified. Simulation results show that fault detection accuracy (FDA) is greater than 92%, false alarm rate (FAR) is near 0%, and event detection accuracy (EDA) is greater than 99% under uniform distribution. FDA is greater than 92%, FAR is less than 1.2%, and EDA is greater than 88% under random distribution when sensor fault probability is less than 0.3.

Description: Pupylation, one of the most important posttranslational modifications of proteins, typically takes place when prokaryotic ubiquitin-like protein (Pup) is attached to specific lysine residues on a target protein. Identification of pupylation substrates and their corresponding sites will facilitate the understanding of the molecular mechanism of pupylation. Comparing with the labor-intensive and time-consuming experiment approaches, computational prediction of pupylation sites is much desirable for their convenience and fast speed. In this study, a new bioinformatics tool named EnsemblePup was developed that used an ensemble of support vector machine classifiers to predict pupylation sites. The highlight of EnsemblePup was to utilize the Bi-profile Bayes feature extraction as the encoding scheme. The performance of EnsemblePup was measured with a sensitivity of 79.49%, a specificity of 82.35%, an accuracy of 85.43%, and a Matthews correlation coefficient of 0.617 using the 5-fold cross validation on the training dataset. When compared with other existing methods on a benchmark dataset, the EnsemblePup provided better predictive performance, with a sensitivity of 80.00%, a specificity of 83.33%, an accuracy of 82.00%, and a Matthews correlation coefficient of 0.629. The experimental results suggested that EnsemblePup presented here might be useful to identify and annotate potential pupylation sites in proteins of interest. A web server for predicting pupylation sites was developed.

Description: In this paper, we investigate the multiple attribute decision making (MADM) problem based on the arithmetic and geometric aggregation operators with hesitant fuzzy linguistic information. Then, motivated by the ideal of traditional arithmetic and geometric operation, we have developed some aggregation operators for aggregating hesitant fuzzy linguistic information: hesitant fuzzy linguistic arithmetic aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic geometric aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic correlated aggregation operators, induced hesitant fuzzy linguistic aggregation operators, induced hesitant fuzzy linguistic correlated aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic prioritized aggregation operators, hesitant fuzzy linguistic power aggregation operators. Then, we have utilized these operators to develop some approaches to solve the hesitant fuzzy linguistic multiple attribute decision making problems. Finally, a practical example is given to verify the developed approach. Description: We used a one-dimensional simulation program Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator in 1 Dimension (SCAPS-1D) to investigate Copper-Indium-Gallium-Diselenide- (CIGS-) based solar cells properties. Starting with a conventional ZnO-B/i-ZnO/CdS/CIGS structure, we simulated the parameters of current-voltage characteristics and showed how the absorber layer thickness, hole density, and band gap influence the short-circuit current density (), open-circuit voltage (), fill factor (FF), and efficiency of solar cell. Our simulation results showed that all electrical parameters are greatly affected by the absorber thickness (w) below 1000 nm, due to the increase of back-contact recombination and very poor absorption. Increasing hole density (p) or absorber band gap () improves and leads to high efficiency, which equals value of 16.1% when p = 1016 cm−3 and  eV. In order to reduce back-contact recombination, the effect of a very thin layer with high band gap inserted near the back contact and acting as electrons reflector, the so-called back-electron reflector (EBR), has been investigated. The performances of the solar cells are significantly improved, when ultrathin absorbers (w 〈 500 nm) are used; the corresponding gain of due to the EBR is 3 mA/cm2. Our results are in good agreement with those reported in the literature from experiments.

Description: The problem of exponential stability for the uncertain neutral Markovian jump systems with interval time-varying delays and nonlinear perturbations is investigated in this paper. This study starts from the corresponding nominal systems with known and partially unknown transition rates, respectively. By constructing a novel augmented Lyapunov functional which contains triple-integral terms and fully utilizes the bound of the delay, the delay-range-dependent and rate-dependent exponential stability criteria are developed by the Lyapunov theory, reciprocally convex lemma, and free weighting matrices. Then, the results about nominal systems are extended to the uncertain case. Finally, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
