Beschreibung: During the VII Ecuadorian Expedition to Antarctic in the Guayaquil - Valparaíso - Guayaquil route (december/97 - march/98), oceanographic stations were performing to register cuali-cuantitative variations of phytoplankton of Southeastern Pacific Ocean during "El Nino" 1997-98 conditions. The biomass of phytoplankton is measured chlorophylls "a" levels showed lower concentrations between 0.015-04 mg/m³ to the 100m depth. The phytoplankton composition in december/97, registered the most dominance of diatoms at southward Gulf of Guayaquil with lower concentration at 20° S, the main species were Chaetoceros affinis, Skeletonema costatum, Rhizosolenia imbricata, Ch, leavis, R. alata var curvirrostris, Climacodium biconcavum, R. styliformis. The dinoflagellates species had the widest distribution in the area studied (3°16'-31°23'S) with rank of temperature between 27.54°C and 17.67°C, were Ceratium incisum, C. carriense, C. breve, C. teres, C. falcatiforme, C. euuarcuatum, C. pavillardi, Dinophysis caudata, Ornithocercus steinii, O. Thumi, O. magnificus, Pyrocystis fusiformis, Protoperidinium quarnerense, P. cf conicum, P. longipes, P. ocanicum, P. pedunculatum, Prorocentrum micans, Podolampas bipes, and some Epiplocides reticulata, Eutintinnus lusussundae, was indicators of oceanic waters advanced to chilean area. At to 30° S, the dinoflagellates were most dominant groups, with C. tripos, C. furca, C. pentagonum var subrrostrum, Goniodoma polyedricum, G. polygramma, species.

Beschreibung: The present study is based on the plankton samples collected in the cruise carried out by the Oceanographic Institute of the Equatorian Navy during september 2001. For this study 10 zooplankton samples was analyzed and corresponding to five coastal stations, located approximately in a transect between 81 W and from 1° N to 3°S. 8,208 organisms belonging to 23 families, 43 genus and 97 copepods species were identified. For each station was obtained the percentages of males and females, and the total average for the five stations too. Of the total of identified species 72.51% corresponded to females specimens and 27.49% to males specimens. The distribution of the copépodos species was associated to the conditions oceanographic that were presented during september of 2001. The copepods species of the south of the coast of the Ecuador, they were conformed mainly by species of cold waters, associated to a strong influence of the Humboldt Current that would have contributed to the displacement of characteristic species of cold waters, from the costs of Chile and Perú toward the costs of Ecuador. While in waters of intermediate temperatures, they were species conformed mainly by a transition fauna between cold waters of the south and the warm of the north. On relationship to the station more to the north, the copepods were conformed mainly by species of warm waters. This way, new expectations about the study of biological indicators in the oceanography one could wait, with the analysis and study of the climatic variability and their effect in the populations of the plankton in the ocean.

Beschreibung: The present paper deals with the bioecology study of the ichthyoplankton at the fixed sampling site "La Libertad" located 10 miles offshore of Salinas-Peninsula de Santa Elena, Ecuador. Plankton samples analysed were collected every 20 days, from february to december 1997, onboard of boats belonging to the National Army. During 1997 the following dominant families of fish larvae were found: Scaenidae (18%), Engraulidae (9%), Bregmacerotidae (6%) and others beloging to the suborden Pleuroronectoidei (8%). The Clupeidae family decreased from 17% (until 19969) to 2% during the "El Niño" event 1997. The highest concentration of fish larvae was found during june, july and august, between 490 and 700 org.m², fish eggs were found in february, 23000 org.m² and june, august and octuber. The following species larvae of commercial value were found in the present study: Cetengraulis mysticetus (chuhueco), Scomberjaponicus (macarela) and Sardinops sagax (sardina del sur). In relation to the past years, important changes in the composition of species of ichthyoplankton and zooplankton were found specially into planktonic foraminifera. The dominant species in the planktonic foraminifera group were: Globigerinoides sacculifer, G. ruber, Globoquadrina dutertrei, Globigerinella aequilateralis which are related to warm, oceanic and poor nutrient waters, properties observed in surface water from february to december 1997 with light mix of cool water as is indicated by the increase of Globigeina bulloides during july, august, september and november 1997. In general, according to biological markers, the "El Niño" 1997 event conditions has shown rising effects in the zooplanktonic fauna up to december, effects associated to morphologic changes in the population of foraminifera and the presence of larvae of tropical and oceanic fishes.

Beschreibung: During the study one collected superficial water samples in 12 stations distributed in the Aeolian Bay of the Baltra, Galapagos Islands to determine the primary productivity and secundary on the chain it would feed, the samples of plankton were collected during days 9 to the 13 of march of 2005. In relation to the biomass cellular one identified 24 species in the superface waterproof cloak and 84 species were determined in the samples of network of 50u. In the phytoplankton community, the diatoms prevailed dominant and in smaller concentration the dinoflagelados groups, silicoflagellates, cocolithoforids. In counts cells the dominant species in the area in study were Gymnodinium sp., Filamentos sp., Coscinodiscus excentricus, Thalassiotrix frauenfeldii. In the netwoork samples (50u), the typical water species were registered with high productivity characteristics; Corethron criophyllum, Chaetoceros peruvianus. As far as the zooplanktony productivity a greater biomass collected with the network of 335u in comparison with the network of 600u was determined, and it stands out that the hight biomass of zooplankton was in station 4. Additionally a proportional relation inversely between the abundances of Eggs of fish and taxa of Quetognatos was observed. As far as the species of Quetognatos the presence in abundance order was observed Sagitta neglecta, S. bedoti, S. pacifica, these species are typically of wet season.

Beschreibung: The present study was carried out during the wet and dry seasons in the rivers Teaone, Esmeraldas, Petrolero Terminal and Palmas, for which stablished that a variability exists temporary space as for the abundance and composition of the communities zooplankton, especially the species of the taxa Chaetognatha, Cladocera, Caridea. The area of major productivity zooplanctónica associated with a high diversity was in the zone of Petrolero Terminal of Esmeraldas during the wet season. In the area Petrolero Terminal there was high abundance of Quetognatos's species represented by the dominancia of S. bedoti and S. neglecta in the wet season and during the dry season the dominancia was od S. enflata and S. minim which con be related principally by the seasonal variation of the parameter salinity, whereas the temperature was kept in a range of 25.9° to 28.4 °C during 2 season in study. The low zooplankton abundance and diversity registered in the river Teaone, there being registered the presence of scanty specimens of Macrobranchium rathbunae in the wet season. In the river Teaone were observed high values of potential of hydrogen in comparison with other areas in study, for what, it might catalogue that this area is in conditions of a deterioration of the quality of the waters, by light indications towards a pollution product of the antropogénica activities.

Beschreibung: Scientific investigations in Antarctica are, for many different reasons, a challenging and fascinating task. Measurements, observations and field operations must be carefully planned well in advance and the capacity of successfully meeting the goals of a scientific project is often related to the capacity of forecasting and anticipating the many different potential mishaps. In order to do that, experience and logistic support are crucial. On the scientific side, the team must be aware of its tasks and be prepared to carry out observations in a hostile environment: both technology and human resources have to be suitably selected, prepared, tested and trained. On the logistic side, nations, institutions and any other organisation involved in the expeditions must ensure the proper amount of competence and practical support. The history of modern Italian Antarctic expeditions dates back to the middle 80’s when the first infrastructures of “Mario Zucchelli Station”, formerly Terra Nova Bay Station, were settled at Terra Nova Bay, Northern Victoria Land. Only a few years later, the first geodetic infrastructures were planned and built. Italian geodetic facilities and activities were, ever since, being constantly maintained and developed. Nowadays, the most remarkable geodetic infrastructures are the permanent Global Positioning System (GPS) station (TNB1) installed at Mario Zucchelli and the GPS geodetic network Victoria Land Network for DEFormation control (VLNDEF) entirely deployed on an area extending between 71° S and 76° S and 160° E and 170° E. These facilities do not only allow carrying out utmost geodetic investigations but also posses interesting capacities on the international multidisciplinary scientific scenario. In order to fully exploit their potentiality, management and maintenance of the infrastructure are crucial; nevertheless, in order to perform high quality scientific research, these abilities must be coupled with the knowledge concerning a proper use and a correct processing of the information that these infrastructures can provide. This work focuses on the different methods that can be applied to process the observations that are performed with GPS technique in Northern Victoria Land, aiming at reaching the highest accuracy of results and assuring the larger significance and versatility of the processing outcomes. Three software were used for the analysis, namely: Bernese v.5.0, Gipsy/Oasis II and Gamit/Globk. The working data sets are (i) the permanent GPS station TNB1 observations continuously performed since 1998 and (ii) the five episodic campaigns performed on the sites of VLNDEF. The two infrastructures can be regarded as neat examples of standard geodetic installation in Antarctica. Therefore, the technological solutions that were adopted and applied for establishing the GPS permanent station and the VLNDEF geodetic network as well as the data processing strategies and the data analysis procedures that were tested on their observation will be illustrated in detail. The results will be presented, compared and discussed. Furthermore, their potentials and role in geodetic research will be carefully described; their versatility will also be highlighted in the foreground of a multidisciplinary Antarctic international scientific activity.
