    Beschreibung: The italian Auschwitz memorial in Florence has been the basis for a didactic project where a fourth class in the vocational institute "Saffi" studies the exhibition for acting as a guide for visitors. There was a integration between historic and touristic content and competencies. As there was no book able to illustrate the exhibition, Luca Bravi experience was pivotal. The pandemy has interrupted the project at the step where students would have served as guides.

    Beschreibung: The aim of this work is to identify the factors which contributed to create Lourdes' success. This analysis starts from the comparison between the 18 apparitions in Lourdes with some similar and contemporary episodes occurring in France, but with a somewhat different outcome, intended as success among the pilgrims. The initial historical, political and cultural contextualization work is accompanied by the analysis of some key aspects of the Catholic Church of that time. In reference to the purpose of the text, two areas are analysed more in-depth: medical science and literature, both closely connected with the question of miracles.

    Beschreibung: In the context of the intense religious and social renewal known as “Gregorian Reform”, the Camaldoli Hermitage and the Vallombrosa Abbey, both located in the Tuscan territory, gave rise to two movements of reform inspired by the spirituality of the respective founders, which later became congregations belonging to the benedictine family. Motivated by common instances, the Camaldolese and the Vallombrosan Orders were similar in some of their essential features and in the dynamics of their expansion. This statement has been the starting point of this work, which aims to formulate a comparative overview of the territorial spread of these reforms in Tuscany, by recording the known settlements and making an inventory of the religious communities interested by this phenomenom, in order to gather a broad range of examples of the way these movements interacted with the local situations in the different areas of the region. The text is enriched by a carthographic appendix illustrating the chronology of these congregations’ development in medieval Tuscany.

    Beschreibung: Contrary to a common conviction, original sin is one of the fundamental Patristic issues, because it is the starting point of Patristic anthropology and sets the stage for the need for salvation. The Church Fathers before Augustine did not used the term "original sin", but described its reality, having the greatest possible feeling for the mystical unity of mankind with its first ancestor. As regards the issue of the unity of human nature in Adam, the East and the West speak with one voice, which is first to be found in Irenaeus’ works.The purpose of this work is to address the Patristic issue of the unity of humankind in Adam – the concept present in both Eastern and Western Christianity - that can be traced back to Irenaeus.

    Beschreibung: In the central centuries of the Modern Age, Latin was the official language of the Church of Rome, but from the analysis of papal edicts and decrees, it emerges that Vernacular was preferred as common language. While opposing the Lutheran doctrine, which favoured to the use of vernacular both in the Scriptures and in the liturgy, and keeping the knowledge of the mysteries of the faith only for those able to understand Latin, Italian bishops and inquisitors used vernacular to transmit papal edicts and conciliar decrees. What topics required complete understanding? Was there loyalty to the originals, or were the margins of interpretation exploited to contain the repressive hold imposed by the post-Tridentine papacy?

    Beschreibung: The Museums of educational heritage - especially those established in University Departments – represent an extraordinary resource for scientific research, education, and the Third Mission, which is aimed at promoting collaboration, dialogue and exchange between the University and its territory to generate knowledge and benefit of social, cultural, and economic nature as well. Within the Third Mission precisely lies Public History defined as "the communication of history outside academic environments" (AIPH 2018). In this framework the paper presents some examples of educational projects and activities carried out with local schools and communities by the "Mauro Laeng" Museum of school and education at the University of Roma Tre, and by the "Paolo & Ornella Ricca" Museum of school history at the University of Macerata. The final aim is to provide a methodological approach, project ideas, and operational tools for inspiring schoolteachers and professors, university researchers and museum educators.

On one side the paper aims at highlighting the contribution rom and sinti gave to Resistance and ti-fascist movement, on the other side it shows sinti and rom's resistance against prejudices and stereotypes which determine their present. The riappropriation of their communitarian history as their national history can be considered as a powerful tool for building people's identity as citizens and it marks a path toward sharing and inclusion.

    Beschreibung: This essay discusses the formation of “Italian travellers to Iran” as both a popular idea and scientific category. In the three decades after the Second World War, Italy and Iran were going through deep transformations and entered a phase of intense political, economic and cultural relations. In this context, scholarly interests and political agendas jointly contributed to a representation of past travellers as the manifestation of an imagined and almost eternal connection between the two civilizations. This narrative served to rhetorically enhance the role played by both countries in the history of mankind, and the contribution they could still give to humanity as nations among nations. However, these events may have also left their mark on how the history of connections between Italy and Iran, and the history of Iranian studies in Italy, are represented in scholarly milieus.

    Beschreibung: This paper aims to give an account of some of the manuscripts related to Lothar. In its first section an attempt is made at retracing a set of books that could have belonged to Lothar’s library, nowadays known only from secondary sources. In the second section some display codices are discussed, either commissioned by Lothar, or dedicated to him, such as Lothar’s Gospel Book MS Par. lat. 266 or those traditionally referred to as the «Lothar-Gruppe», whose actual connection both to Lothar and to each other is questioned here. The third and last part of the paper contains some considerations on the manuscripts produced during the years of Lothar’s government in Italy, that essentially coincide with the second quarter of the ninth century.

    Beschreibung: The book brings to light a little-known story: the arrival in Italy of thousands of Moriscos exiles, descendants of Arab-Muslim origin, settled for centuries in the Iberian peninsula, baptized following the Christian Reconquista (1492), often accused of crypto-Islamism and betrayal of the homeland, eventually expelled and deported from Spain (1609-1614). What are the obstacles encountered by refugees along the journey of their exodus? What is the behavior of the authorities with respect to the landings? And in what terms have the refugees interacted with the local populations? These are current questions to ancient problems that Italy, in its political fragmentation, has already experienced.

    Beschreibung: In 1882, Nocentini published Il primo sinologo: P. Matteo Ricci. The first secular biography of the famous Italian Jesuit to China, it posed important questions about the origins of sinology and the role of Matteo Ricci as an early modern Italian traveller in Sino-western relations. Nocentini’s rereading of Matteo Ricci and travel literature in Italy in the late nineteenth century is examined through theories proposed by Derrida, Barthes and Nabokov. These theories provide an interpretative approach to understand the rereading carried out in Nocentini’s work, as they are intended as a process of interpretation and reinterpretation, as well as appropriation of the original meaning.

    Beschreibung: Dealing with episcopal culture in Milan during Lothar I’s age (822-855), that is the age of Archbishop Angilbert II (824-859), is a difficult task, because of the lack of sources and uncertain origin of many extant manuscripts. As a matter of fact, Angilbert II shared a common cultural background with his transalpine colleagues, but he had to face the loss of the schools in Milan and to rebuild a cultural system which could also improve the political role of his see to the detriment of Pavia. This paper analyses some main features of his cultural policy: the activity of masters accustomed to the new ideas of Carolingian schools, in particular the role played by Hildemar and his library in Civate; the renewal of St. Ambrose’s cult and Angilbert’s iconographical choices on the golden altar of Sant’Ambrogio, in connection with literary activity in Milan (as for the case of bishop Mansuetus’ letter copied in Montpellier, Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire, Faculté de medicine, H 233).
