Description:
A new method (SCRAP) has been used for the analysis of neutron powder diffraction data as an alternative to the Rietveld profile refinement method, which has been shown to give incorrect values for the standard deviations of the parameters. The new method involves the determination of estimates for the Bragg intensities, which enables the standard deviations of the parameters to be estimated reliably. The results of a number of analyses for data sets of varying complexity are presented. Both methods of analysis have been used, together with an integrated intensity method if the peaks are resolved, and this has confirmed both the validity of the new method and the limitations of the Rietveld method.
