Notes:
Summary Forty patients with essential hypertension were treated with a new beta-blocking agent, 4-2 (2-hydroxy-3-isopropyl-amino-propoxy)-indole, pindolol (Viskén®). Pindolol caused a significantly greater reduction of blood pressure in most of the patients than a placebo and the effects persisted for some time after its withdrawal. There were few side effects. Its mode of action and a safe dosage regime are discussed.
