Summary The system of fundamental hydrodynamic and thermodynamic equations of ideal baroclinic fluids is converted for isentropic processes into a complete system of conservation principles, by deriving to new conservative field parameters. In addition to the specific entropy andErtel's formulation of the potential vorticity theorem there appear three further hydrodynamic field parameters which are constant and conservative. In principle, any number of such conservation principles can be derived, howver, only a limited number are independent of each other. The possibility of a prognostic application is suggested.
