Description:
Changes of heights and temperatures of the standard pressure surfaces of 40 anticyclones were examined. The average decreasing High was associated with rising constant-pressure surfaces above 850 mb, rapidly rising temperatures from the ground to 250 mb, and slowly falling temperatures above. The average increasing High was associated with a rise of all constant-pressure surfaces, slowly rising temperatures from 850 to 300 mb, and falling temperatures above 300 mb. In most cases increasing Highs had a northward component of motion; decreasing Highs a southward component.
