Nachdem bereits von WALDEN und CENTNERSZWER)1 und von anderen2) festgestellt worden war, daß verflüssigtes Schwefeldioxyd ein gutes Lösungs- und Ionisierungsmittel ist, wurden in einer Reihe vorhergehender Arbeiten3) von uns die Untersuchungen wieder aufgenommen und die Gesichtspunkte dargelegt, unter denen sich die Chemie der in verflüssigtem Schwefeldioxyd gelösten Substanzen zwanglos und systematisch behandeln läßt. Die schwache Eigenleitfähigkeit des flüssigen Schwefeldioxyds wurde auf eine geringe Dissoziation in doppelt positiv geladene SO-Ionen und in doppelt negativ geladene SO3-Ionen zurückgeführt 2 SO2 ⇄ (SO)++ + (O·SO2)-- ⇄ (SO)++ + (SO3)-. Auf dieser Grundlage konnte ein „Sulfitosystem“ der Verbindungen entwickelt werden, die sich in flüssigem Schwefeldioxyd gelöst zueinander verhalten, wie Säuren, Basen und Salze in Wasser. Dieses „Sulfitosystem“ entspricht also dem „Aquosystem“ der Verbindungen in Wasser und dem „Ammonosystem“4) der Verbindungen in verflüssigtem Ammoniak. Es wurden u. a. „säurenanaloge“ und „basenanaloge“ Stoffe untersucht und mit ihnen in flüssigem Schwefeldioxyd Umsetzungen durchgeführt, welche den Neutralisationen in Wasser entsprechen. Durch derartige und andere Reaktionen ließ sich ferner auch die Konstitution und das Verhalten der bisher nicht bekannten, substituierten und nicht substituierten Thionyl-diammonium-Verbindungen z. B. des Thionyl-diammonium-Chlorids [(NH3),SO]Cl2, des Thionyl-ditriathylammonium-Sulfits {[(C2N5)3N]2SO}SO3 u. a. m. klarstellen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit sollen nun weitere Reaktionen mitgeteilt werden, welche die Ähnlichkeit der Verhältnisse in den beiden Lösungsmitteln „Wasser“ und „flüssiges Schwefeldioxyd“ abermals erkennen lassen. Es werden Oxydations- und Reduktionsvorgänge, Bildungen von Komplexverbindungen und das amphotere Verhalten von Aluniiniumsulfit Al2(SO3), „säurenanalogen“ und „basenanalogen“ Schwefeldioxyd-Lösungen gegenüber behandelt.
