    Description: Extracurricular internships are a constant component of teacher training in Germany, despite their geographically and historically diverse organisation. A discussion of their contribution to the professionalisation of prospective teachers is still lacking, as is an attempt to present the variety of possible designs. This volume addresses both gaps by first discussing from a theoretical perspective the significance of extracurricular internships in the context of continuous professional development in teacher training programmes. Based on the professional internship in North Rhine-Westphalia, exemplary insights are then given into various university internship concepts and diverse projects and collaborations, and initial empirical findings on the contribution of extracurricular practical experience are presented. Based on the conceptual and methodological tools of the transnational turn and on archives, fully exploited for the first time by the research team, this book enriches knowledge of the phenomena of globalization. It does so in a field, education, which is currently one of those most invested in globalization, but whose sociogenesis in the era of its first period of institutionalization remains to be explored more profoundly.     Description: This open access book examines the facilitation of pre-service and in-service educators’ research thinking that equips them to be responsive to the unfolding uncertainties of the 21st century, and to likewise prepare their own students. It addresses several key areas, including: articulating the contemporary need for research thinking across teacher education; showcasing diverse yet conceptually connected strategies that all use the Research Skill Development (RSD) framework; providing an explicit scaffolded approach; and extending knowledge of the 'Models of Engaged Learning and Teaching' (MELT) conceptual framework. This book also addresses the contemporary topics of social media for learning, digital literacy, education research as cultural work and formations of communities of practice, with cross-cutting themes of scaffolded development and formative assessment of research skills. It highlights how research thinking is not only vital for PST (Preservice Teachers), I-ST (In-Serivce Teachers) and university educators, but also models for them how to scaffold the research thinking of their own students. This book's use of the RSD, as a shared conceptual framework across the chapters, emphasises the overlaps between ways of thinking in the different learning areas in which education occurs, without masking the differences. Likewise, the interdisciplinary work that comprises Education is informed by the RSD conceptual framework as used in a variety of disciplines.     Description: In diesem Open-Access-Buch wird ausgehend vom aktuellen Forschungsdiskurs der didaktische Einsatz von Erklärvideos im Sachunterricht untersucht. Der Sachunterricht stellt aufgrund seines umfassenden Bildungsauftrags ein herausforderndes Betätigungsfeld für Lehrkräfte dar. Das audiovisuelle Medienformat Erklärvideo kommt dabei zunehmend zur Anwendung. Anhand einer explorativen qualitativ-empirischen Studie mit österreichischen und deutschen Grundschullehrkräften wird ein Rahmenmodell zum Erklärvideoeinsatz im Sachunterricht entwickelt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sowohl die Schulschließungen im Zuge der Coronapandemie als auch der individuelle Umgang mit dem Bildungsauftrag des Sachunterrichts Motive für den Einsatz von Erklärvideos darstellen. Es werden Vorgehensweisen bei der Auswahl bzw. Gestaltung von Erklärvideos sowie didaktische Zielsetzungen und situationsspezifische Umgangsformen mit dem Medium identifiziert. Einflussfaktoren für die Nutzung von Erklärvideos sind die Verfügbarkeit passender Angebote, die technische Ausstattung sowie personenbezogene Faktoren wie persönliches Interesse und Medienkompetenz. Qualitätsvolle Erklärvideos im Sachunterricht können bei zweckmäßigem Einsatz als geeignete Bildungsressourcen für die Lernenden und als didaktisches Werkzeug für die Lehrenden betrachtet werden.

    Description: In diesem Open-Access-Buch geht der Autor der Frage nach, warum Technik als wesentlicher Bestandteil der Kultur in der Bildung nur eine untergeordnete Bedeutung hat und begründet mit Hilfe technikphilosophischer Analysen einen Kulturreihenansatz für die Auswahl von Inhalten für den Technikunterricht. Aus dem Doppelauftrag von Schule, Persönlichkeitsbildung und Enkulturation wird zunächst ein Interaktionsmodell für Bildung und Erziehung abgeleitet. Das Problem der Inhaltsauswahl jeder Fachdidaktik wird mit einem Modell zur Verknüpfung von Allgemeiner Didaktik und Fachwissenschaften gelöst. Darin wird die Technikphilosophie als fehlende Bezugswissenschaft identifiziert, um Aussagen zum Wesen der Technik zu ermöglichen. Durch die Analyse technikphilosophischer Ansätze wird der Technikbegriff um eine ästhetische und eine Sinn- und Wertperspektive erweitert. Aus diesem Technikbegriff ergeben sich pädagogische Perspektiven für den Technikunterricht, die schließlich über einen Kulturreihenansatz zu einem Kern Technischer Allgemeinbildung führen. Durch den Kulturreihenansatz wird begründet umrissen, wie die kulturelle Bedeutung der Technik bildungswirksam werden kann.

    Description: Based on a qualitative, longitudinal and constructivist research approach, the project at hand explores the decision-making process within the inclusive transition from secondary school I to further education from the perspectives of teenagers with disabilities and parents (with/without disabilities). The narratives of 5 families (3 teenagers with disabilities, 3 fathers, 5 mothers with/without disabilities) are of interest. The interviews were conducted three times (every year) during the transition-/decision-making process along the method of intensive interviewing (Charmaz 2014). The analysis of the qualitative data (32 interviews) was based on the coding process according to Charmaz (2014). Through data analysis three types of decision-making could be identified (giving up decision, forcing decision, taking over decision) as subforms of two higher-level decision-making mechanisms named make an independent decision and make a(n) (independent) decision with support. The expectation of an independent decision-making individual is central for teenagers with disabilities and their parents. Different types of “volition” are connected to the decision-making processes, depending on if the teenagers with disabilities make an independent decision (really want it), make a decision with support ((don’t) want it) or make a decision owing to given opinions (have to). Due to the longitudinal research design the educational trajectories of teenagers with disabilities are also reconstructed.
    Description: Ausgehend von einem qualitativ, längsschnittlich und konstruktivistischen Forschungsdesign untersucht die vorliegende Studie das Erleben von Entscheidungsprozessen am inklusiv verstandenen Übergang von Sekundarstufe I in weitere schulische Bildung aus Sicht von Jugendlichen mit Behinderung und Eltern (mit/ohne Behinderung). Im Mittelpunkt stehen die Erzählungen von 5 Familien (3 Jugendliche mit Behinderung, 3 Väter, 5 Mütter mit/ohne Behinderung), die im Übergangs-/Entscheidungsprozess drei Mal im Abstand von einem Jahr mittels intensiv interviewing (Charmaz 2014) befragt wurden. Zur Auswertung des qualitativen Datenmaterials (32 Interviews) wurde auf die Kodierschritte von Charmaz (2014) zurückgegriffen. Die Datenanalyse offenbart drei Varianten des Entscheidens (entscheiden abgeben, entscheiden forcieren, entscheiden müssen) als Ausdifferenzierungen der übergeordneten Entscheidungsformen selbstständig entscheiden und unterstützend (selbstständig) entscheiden. Zentral ist die Erwartung eines selbstständigen Entscheidungssubjekts, an der sich die Jugendlichen mit Behinderung und Eltern orientieren. Damit einher gehen unterschiedliche Varianten des Wollens, wenn Jugendliche mit Behinderung als Entscheidungssubjekte selbstständig (es wirklich wollen), mit Unterstützung (es (nicht) wollen) oder innerhalb vorselektierter Optionen (es müssen) eine Wahl treffen. Durch das längsschnittliche Forschungsdesign können zudem die Bildungsverläufe der Jugendlichen mit Behinderung nachgezeichnet werden.

    Description: The central “epoch-typical key problems” (Klafki 1993) that school education should address include the global challenges of socially produced inequality within our societies as well as the careful and responsible use of resources, both now and in the future. In view of this, as well as rapid processes of social change and increasingly complex challenges, the innovative capacity of the school as an institution is gaining in importance, because it has the task of enabling children and young people to actively shape an ecologically sustainable, economically efficient and socially just environment, considering global aspects. The presented dissertation ties in with this educational mission in schools. Based on findings that indicate that, firstly, education for sustainable development (ESD) is not yet sufficiently structurally anchored in schools and teaching, especially in the primary school sector, and secondly, that teachers and their motivation are decisive in the transfer of innovations and the implementation of programmatic models of school education, the present work investigates the question of which biographical dispositions and motives are evident in primary school teachers, implementing ESD in subject “Sachunterricht”. Thus, the work lies at the intersection of biographical professionalization, sustainability and school implementation research. In the theoretical references, the discourse on sustainability and corresponding educational concepts as well as approaches of implementation, innovation, implementation research as well as (biographical) professionalization research are used. For the empirical study, problem-centered interviews with primary school teachers in Lower Saxony were conducted and evaluated using sequence analysis based on objective hermeneutics. The aim is to reconstruct different case-specific patterns of orientation and interpretation as well as motives in relation to the implementation of ESD and to investigate connections between biographical and social structures and the motives for implementing education for sustainable development in “Sachunterricht” among teachers.
    Description: Als zentrale „epochaltypische Schlüsselprobleme“ (Klafki 1993), denen sich schulische Bildung zuwenden sollte, können u.a. die globalen Herausforderungen der gesellschaftlich produzierten Ungleichheit innerhalb unserer Gesellschaften sowie der sowohl gegenwärtig als auch zukünftig schonende und verantwortungsvolle Umgang mit Ressourcen gelten. Angesichts dessen sowie rascher gesellschaftlicher Wandlungsprozesse und zunehmend komplexerer Herausforderungen gewinnt die Innovationsfähigkeit der Institution Schule an Bedeutung, denn ihr kommt die Aufgabe zu, Kinder und Jugendliche zur aktiven Gestaltung einer ökologisch tragfähigen, wirtschaftlich leistungsfähigen und sozial gerechten Umwelt unter Berücksichtigung globaler Aspekte zu befähigen. An diesen schulischen Bildungsauftrag knüpft die vorgelegte Dissertationsschrift an. Ausgehend von Befunden, die darauf verweisen, dass erstens insbesondere im Grundschulbereich Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE) in Schule und Unterricht noch nicht hinreichend strukturell verankert ist und zweitens Lehrkräfte und ihre Motivation entscheidend beim Transfer von Innovationen und der Implementierung programmatischer Leitbilder schulischer Bildung sind, wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit der Frage nachgegangen, welche biographischen Dispositionen und Motive sich bei Grundschullehrkräften zeigen, die BNE im Sachunterricht umsetzen. Damit liegt die Arbeit im Schnittfeld von biographischer Professionalisierungs-, Nachhaltigkeits- und schulischer Implementationsforschung. In den theoretischen Bezügen werden zunächst der Diskurs um Nachhaltigkeit und entsprechende Bildungskonzeptionen sowie ferner Ansätze der Implementations-, Innovations-, Umsetzungsforschung sowie der (biographischen) Professionalisierungsforschung herangezogen. Für die empirische Untersuchung wurden problemzentrierte Interviews mit Grundschullehrkräften in Niedersachsen geführt und sequenzanalytisch in Anlehnung an die Objektive Hermeneutik ausgewertet. Ziel ist es, unterschiedliche fallspezifische Orientierungs- und Deutungsmuster sowie Motivlagen in Bezug auf die Umsetzung von BNE zu rekonstruieren und Zusammenhänge zwischen biographischen und sozialen Strukturen und den Motiven zur Umsetzung von Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung im Sachunterricht bei Lehrer*innen zu untersuchen.

Anhand von sechs Gruppendiskussionen mit Teams, aus der Heimerziehung, wird mittels der Dokumentarischen Methode rekonstruiert, dass die Fachkräfte sich im Zuge des öffentlichen Diskurses unter Generalverdacht gestellt fühlen. Empirisch kann gezeigt werden, dass das Thema sexuelle Gewalt durch diesen und fünf weitere Anlässe für die Fachkräfte relevant wird (Ausbildung, biografische Betroffenheit, institutionelle Bedingungen, Tatverdacht/Gewalttaten und kindliche Bedürfnisse nach Versorgung und Nähe). Der subjektiv wahrgenommene Generalverdacht geht für die Fachkräfte einher mit der Angst vor Repressalien gegen die eigene Person oder Kolleg*innen. Kindliche Bedürfnisse nach Nähe werden für die Fachkräfte vor dem Hintergrund zum Risiko. Gehen sie den Bedürfnissen fachlich angemessen nach, glauben sie Gefahr zu laufen, sexueller Gewalt bezichtigt zu werden. Sie stehen vor einem professionellen Dilemma und müssen den Schutz der eigenen Person gegen die Nähebedürfnisse der Kinder und Jugendlichen abwägen. Die Folge ist distanziert(ere)s und technokratisches Handeln, welches je nach konzeptioneller Perspektive unprofessionell und im Hinblick auf die Bedürfnisse der Kinder und Jugendlichen verletzend sein kann. Um der Herausforderung zu begegnen, haben die Fachkräfte Bewältigungsstrategien entwickelt. Diese sind davon abhängig, (1) ob die Fachkräfte sich vorstellen können, dass eine*r ihrer Kolleg*innen sexuelle Gewalt verübt, (2) inwieweit sich Fachkräfte für ein Nähebedürfnis der Kinder und Jugendlichen verantwortlich fühlen (familienanalog vs. nicht familienanalog) und (3) wie sich der Umgang der Organisation mit der medialen Thematisierung darstellt. Als ein weiterer Ergebnisstrang kann in der Arbeit gezeigt werden, dass sexuelle Gewalt durch eigene Kolleg*innen nicht, bzw. nur sehr schwer vorstellbar ist. Diese „Undenkbarkeit“ ist in die Sprache der Beforschten eingeschrieben. Die Arbeit zeigt, wie dieser fehlende Wahrnehmungshorizont das Handeln der Fachkräfte beeinflusst. Dies ist ein Open-Access-Buch.

    Description: The late 1960s can be described as a time of democratic awakening and social upheaval, also regarding discussions on education. Taking this period of critique and questioning as a starting point, the work proceeds to examine knowledge movements. Knowledge circulation and knowledge transformation processes between political and educational practice as well as educational theory are analysed on the basis of 9 biographical narratives of people who were active in educational or political practice projects around 1968. The first theoretical part of this thesis outlines the historical context and introduces the state of research on '1968 and pedagogy'. Subsequently, the thesis introduces its knowledge-historical theoretical approaches, from which the concept of knowledge movements developed for this thesis emerges. The first part of the thesis concludes with the presentation of the methodical and methodological premises, explains theoretically the applied procedure of an integrative coupling of discourses and biographies and shows the form of practical application in the work. The second part of the thesis includes the presentation of the empirical results and along inductively identified thematic strands, various aspects of new perspectives that can be considered as (co-)inspired/stimulated by the critical-alternative pedagogical milieu that are examined in greater detail. The third part of the paper presents the results and links them back to the theoretical premises. Thus, it is shown how knowledge of the discursive space of the critical-alternative pedagogical milieu changed through its discursive entanglements with the established educational science and how the established educational science entered a communicative process of opening through the confrontation with the new forms of knowledge. For educational science, the results and documented processes can thus can thus serve as a sample for contemplation and be referred to introspectively in the context of today's processes of theory formation or research. Disciplinary continuities and discontinuities were shown and hence it is possible to revise/identify trends or demarcations via the knowledge-historical findings of the work.
    Description: Die späten 1960er Jahre können als eine Zeit des demokratischen Aufbruchs und des gesellschaftlichen Umschwungs, auch bezogen auf die Thematisierungen von Bildung und Erziehung, bezeichnet werden. Diesem Zeitraum der Kritik und des Infragestellens als Ausgangspunkt nehmend, knüpft die Arbeit an, um Wissensbewegungen zu untersuchen. So werden, anhand von 9 biographischen Erzählungen mit Personen, die um 1968 in pädagogischen oder politischen Praxisprojekten aktiv waren, Wissenszirkulations- und Wissentransformationsprozesse zwischen politischer und pädagogischer Praxis sowie erziehungswissenschaftlicher Theorie analysiert. Im ersten theoretischen Teil der Arbeit wird einführend zunächst der historische Kontext umrissen und der Forschungsstand zu ‚1968 und Pädagogik‘ vorgestellt. Anschließend führt die Arbeit in ihre wissensgeschichtlichen theoretischen Zugänge ein, aus denen das für diese Arbeit entworfene Konzept von Wissensbewegungen hervorgeht. Der erste Teil der Arbeit schließt mit der Vorstellung der methodologischen und methodischen Prämissen, erläutert theoretisch das angewendete Verfahren einer integrativen Kopplung von Diskursen und Biographien und zeigt die Form der praktischen Anwendung in der Arbeit auf. Der zweite Teil der Arbeit umfasst die Darstellung der empirischen Ergebnisse und entlang von induktiv identifizierten Themensträngen werden verschiedene Aspekte neuer Perspektiven, die als durch das kritisch-alternative pädagogische Milieu mit angeregt betrachtet werden können, näher in den Blick genommen. Im dritten Teil der Arbeit werden die Ergebnisse vorgestellt und an die theoretischen Prämissen rückgekoppelt. So wird dort aufgezeigt, wie Wissen des Diskursraums des kritisch-alternativen pädagogischen Milieus sich durch seine diskursiven Verschränkungen mit der etablierten Erziehungswissenschaft veränderte und sich auch die etablierte Erziehungswissenschaft über die Auseinandersetzung mit den neuen Wissensformen in einem kommunikativen Prozess der Öffnung begab. Für die Erziehungswissenschaft können die Ergebnisse und dokumentierten Prozesse somit eine Kontemplationsfolie bieten, um sich im Kontext heutiger Prozesse der Theoriebildung oder der Forschung selbstreflexiv auf diese zu beziehen. Disziplinäre Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten konnten sichtbar gemacht werden und so ist es möglich über die wissensgeschichtlichen Erkenntnisse der Arbeit Trends oder Abgrenzungen gegenzulesen.

    Description: Dieses Buch setzt sich mit alltäglicher Lebenssituation als Gegenstand pädagogischer Sprachdiagnostik auseinander und ist im Diskurs über Diagnostik und Förderung sprachlich-kommunikativer Kompetenzen zu verorten. Es wurde untersucht, welche Faktoren zur Konstruktion der alltäglichen Lebenssituation beitragen. Außerdem wurde ein Analyseverfahren für die pädagogische Sprachdiagnostik entwickelt, erprobt und evaluiert. Die Ergebnisse zeigen auf, dass Faktoren wie eigenaktives Handeln des Subjekts oder zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen zur Konstruktion alltäglicher Lebenssituation beitragen. Außerdem weisen die Befunde darauf hin, dass mit Anwendung eines in einer Alltagssituation durchgeführten problemzentrierten Interviews Informationen zur alltäglichen Lebenssituation eines sprachbeeinträchtigten Kindes erfasst werden können. Diese Informationen werden anhand des entwickelten Auswertungsleitfadens handlungstheoretisch analysiert. Daraus lassen sich Bedingungen der alltäglichen Lebenssituation rekonstruieren, um pädagogische Sprachfördersituationen zu gestalten, die auf die Erweiterung der sprachlichen Handlungsfähigkeit in der alltäglichen Lebenssituation gerichtet sind. This handbook attempts to answer these questions from a theoretical, historical, and comparative perspective, bringing together 44 contributions written by 71 expert researchers and practitioners in this field. The first part provides an overview of the social enterprise movement, its evolution, and the different forms entities can take to meet global challenges, overcoming the limits of what governments and states can do. The second part focuses on the emergence of benefit corporations and the growing importance of sustainability and societal values, while also analyzing their different legal forms and adaptation to their regulatory environment. In turn, the last part presents the status quo of purpose-driven companies in 36 developed and emerging economies worldwide. This handbook offers food for thought and guidance for everyone interested in this field. Treten Störungen im Unterricht auf, sind Lehrpersonen oft gefordert, unter Affekt und Zeitdruck zu handeln. Im Umgang mit Unterrichtsstörungen werden ihre Wahrnehmung und ihr Handeln durch implizite, versteckte Orientierungen beeinflusst. Weiter nehmen unterschiedliche Unterrichtskontexte bzw. didaktische Arrangements eine zentrale Rolle bei der Produktion und Rezeption von Unterrichtsstörungen ein. Rekonstruiert wurden unter anderem drei Typen des Umgangs von Lehrpersonen mit Unterrichtsstörungen. Die Ergebnisse der Studie tragen zur gezielten Reflexion des Umgangs mit Unterrichtsstörungen bei und richten sich sowohl an interessierte Personen aus Forschung und Wissenschaft als auch an Lehrpersonen und Dozierende.

    Description: This open access book represents a journey documenting the development of tools and methodologies over 3 decades and asks where the future lies. It further develops seminal work carried out under the auspices of the Capacity building in Sustainability and Environmental Management (CapSEM) project co-funded by the EU Erasmus programme from 2016-2019 as well as research projects such as IGLO-MP2020, SUSPRO, and SISVI. It gathers existing paradigms of environmental management within the relevant frameworks which have driven the way in which this discipline has developed. It seeks to both challenge and support the way in which business sectors have approached this previously, with a more holistic and overarching model being provided, moving through four very distinct levels. It therefore provides not only a different approach, but a different way of thinking. Systems thinking is characterized by four levels: Process, Product Value Chain, Organisational and Systemic which combines Material Flow Analysis (MFA), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Industrial Ecology (IE) principles. In its practical application, Corporate Social Responsibility, for example, thus becomes an integral part of a much wider business strategy and impacts on all business activity, not added value for its own sake, but a valuable component in a wider toolbox as a fundamental part of any business strategy and plan, changing, flexing and developing over the years. The book is divided into 4 parts: moving from context and background, to the theoretical model or toolbox, onto its practical application in case studiesandculminates in looking at the future and potential developments. It represents the multi-disciplined collaboration at NTNU and beyond, exemplifying its use in a wealth of business sectors and a range of stakeholders from construction to textiles to wind power as outlined in the European Circular Action Plan.

    Description: This is an open access book which focuses on different aspects of education, employment, and successful integration of migrants in three countries: Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. The chapters in this book reflect on these issues from micro, meso and macro perspectives; some are based on interviews with migrants and people who work with them, others on documents and literature about migration. There are different pathways for skilled migrants to vocations. Some start working in their previous vocations after arriving in the new environment. Some re-enter their professions but on a lower level. Some can re-train themselves in a new vocation, and some will go to further education, as studies in different chapters of this book suggest. Common for successful integration seems to be several intertwined factors: the target language competence, strong motivation and agency, supporting networks and supporting persons, as well as structural opportunities of the new environment. The book’s editorial board takes an eclectic view, hoping to start an academic debate about what ‘successful integration’ means. While discussions about the integration of migrants tend to focus on integration failures, there are millions of migrants, in different countries, who have successfully integrated into their new societies.

    Description: The much-vaunted interwar period after World War I and before World War II was also a phase of in-between for German-Turkish relations: It ranged from the founding of nation-state republics in Germany and Turkey together with their comprehensive social and political changes to the years of the Nazi regime and Atatürk's government. Against this background, this study examines the knowledge about Turkey that is conveyed in German textbooks for the subjects of history and geography and that is considered worthy of being handed down. In doing so, it becomes clear how much textbook knowledge participated in the reproduction of outdated stereotypes, but also in the narrative that deals with the ""long past"" of the ""bond between our two peoples"" (Theodor Heuss).

    Description: Cultural Transfer and Circulation of Knowledge in the long 1960s. The German-American Fulbright Program for teachers. The dissertation traces intercultural knowledge movements between West Germany and the United States in the long 1960s, initiated by the teacher exchange of the German-American Fulbright Program, focussing on everyday culture and the educational/professional context. For the first time, the Annual Exchange Teacher's Reports on Teaching Experiences in the United States, which are kept in the archives of the German-American Fulbright Commission in Berlin, will be evaluated alongside further sources on the institutionalization, design and operationalization of the German-American Fulbright Program. The reports were submitted as completed questionnaires and form the basis of the work as a serial source. They provide information on how German exchange teachers perceived and reflected on their stay in the USA and show which misconceptions were consolidated or overcome. At the same time, knowledge circulation can be traced, and exchange teachers can be identified as agents of a knowledge movement after World War II. The aim here is not so much to write a normative success story of a straightforward US culture transfer to West Germany. Rather, the focus is on the multi-layered, interwoven, and above all open-ended knowledge movements as part of the German-American educational and cultural transfer processes of the post-war period. The focus will be on the agents, networks, structures, and communication spaces within the German-American Fulbright Program in order to understand where, how, and by whom elements were reflected, selected, adapted, and reshaped or rejected. Thus, the transatlantic exchange encounters of Fulbright teachers indicate that cultural objects and patterns of action as well as societal values were adopted from the United States, thus creating a readiness for modernization through adaptations and reinterpretations. The Fulbright Program continued the German-American educational exchange, setting new accents which influenced developments in the Federal Republic of Germany after 1945, especially in education and everyday culture, while at the same time aiding German culture in its initial opening up to ‚Americanization‘. As a result, the exchange teachers contributed to the cultural transfer between the U.S. and the Federal Republic of Germany in the long 1960s.

So deuten die transatlantischen Austauschbegegnungen der Fulbright-Austauschlehrer:innen darauf hin, dass kulturelle Objekte und Handlungsmuster sowie gesellschaftliche Wertvorstellungen aus den USA übernommen wurden und durch Adaptionen und Umdeutungen eine Bereitschaft zur Modernisierung schafften. Das Fulbright-Programm schrieb den deutsch-amerikanischen Bildungsaustausch fort und setzte dabei neue Akzente, die die Entwicklungen in der BRD nach 1945 vor allem im Bildungswesen und der Alltagskultur beeinflussten und zugleich eine Öffnung zur ‚Amerikanisierung‘ ermöglichten. So trugen die Austauschlehrer:innen als Multiplikator:innen zum Kulturtransfer zwischen den USA und der BRD in den langen 1960er Jahren bei.

Sustainability, with a focus on justice, authenticity and inclusivity, can be integrated into many different courses or disciplines even if it is beyond their historical focus. The narratives describe sustainability education in the classroom, the laboratory, and the field (broadly defined) and how the authors navigate the complexities of particular sustainability issues, such as climate change, water quality, soil health, biodiversity, resource use, and education in authentic ways that convey their complexity, the sociopolitical context, and their hopes for the future. The chapters explore how faculty engage students in learning about sustainability and the ways in which working at the edge of what we know about sustainability can be a significant source of engagement, motivation, and challenge.     Description: In diesem Open-Access-Buch werden mithilfe der forschungsleitenden Frage: „Wie ist Geographieunterricht angesichts des Zentralabiturs möglich?“ die Auswirkungen der Einrichtung beziehungsweise funktionalen Umdeutung des Zentralabiturs in den Bundesländern untersucht und systemtheoretisch interpretiert. In einer quantitativen Studie wird gezeigt, dass die Standardisierungsbemühungen der Bildungspolitik durch die Umsetzung in der Schulorganisation zu standardisierten Zentralabiturprüfungsaufgaben auf der Ebene der Bundesländer führen. In einer qualitativen Interviewstudie werden die Möglichkeiten von Geographielehrer_innen nachvollzogen, angesichts des Zentralabiturs zu handeln. Die Ergebnisse beleuchten das Zusammenspiel von Zentralabitur, Unterricht und unterrichtlichen Klausuren und die Rolle von Akteur_innen. Die individuellen Handlungsphänomene divergieren, dennoch können Typen identifiziert werden, die sich hinsichtlich der Intensität und der Frequenz der schulischen Gestaltung unterscheiden. Die systemtheoretische Interpretation der empirischen Ergebnisse kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass der Unterricht – und damit das Erziehungssystem als Ganzes – durch Selbst- und Fremdbeschränkung sowie durch Konkurrenz von Vermittlung/Aneignung und Selektion gefährdet ist.

It particularly focuses on discussing issues pertaining to effective teaching behaviour including definitions and conceptualizations, measurement, differences, and importance to student outcomes from international perspectives. The book will draw upon the rich cultures with diverse contexts involving Asia, Australia, Africa, America, and Europe which serve as the background setting to better understand teaching quality from a wide spectrum of educational systems and performances. It shows that effective teaching behaviour can be conceptualized and operationalized uniformly using specific frameworks and measures, but also addresses some limitations that should be tackled. The book discusses promising ways to measure and compare effective teaching behaviour from classical test theory (CTT) as well as item response theory (IRT) perspectives. It indicates that effective teaching behaviour in diverse countries follows a systematic level of complexity, which provides an avenue for ongoing teacher education and teacher professional development. Exkursionen sind ein idealer Zugang, die Lebenswelt in den Unterricht zu bringen. Der vorliegende Sammelband zeigt an Hand von konkreten Anwendungsbeispielen fünfzehn exkursionsdidaktische Methoden für die Grundschule auf, die auf verschiedenste Lernumgebungen und Orte transferiert werden können. Dabei werden nicht nur klassische Exkursionen realisiert, sondern insbesondere auch schüler*innenzentrierte sowie medial augmentierte und digitale Exkursionen vorgestellt.     Description: In diesem Open.Access-Buch wird gezeigt, dass eine verminderte Fähigkeit zur Simultanerfassung eine Ursache von Rechenschwäche sein kann. Mathematische Lernschwierigkeiten offenbaren sich häufig schon im frühen Grundschulunterricht. Die gängigen Lernmaterialien im mathematischen Anfangsunterricht verwenden zur Mengendarstellung die Kraft der Fünf, die für betroffene Schüler*innen eine besondere Hürde darstellt. In einem Educational Design Research-Projekt wurde gemeinsam mit Personen mit Trisomie 21, dem Down-Syndrom, das mathildr-System entwickelt. Das System eignet sich in der Binnendifferenzierung als Alternative zur Kraft der Fünf und kann zur Entwicklung einer Mengenvorstellung und zum Erlernen des Kopfrechnens verwendet werden. In einer formativen Evaluation wurden die Lernfortschritte von 30 Schüler*innen mit Trisomie 21 im Alter von vier bis 17 Jahren im Zusammenhang mit dem mathildr-System dokumentiert. Ein abschließendes Quasi-Experiment mit 36 Schüler*innen mit Trisomie 21 zeigt zudem, dass sich mathildr zur quasi-simultanen Mengenerfassung eignet. Im Rahmen des Forschungsprojektes wurden Lernmaterialien entwickelt, die Einzug an Schulen gehalten haben.

    Description: In this historical study, the educational ideal of piety, which was omnipresent in the early modern period, is systematically explored for the first time and located in the context of theology, anthropology and theories of affect. In the context of the theories of affect, the concept of piety gains depth and is made fruitful for pedagogical questions. At the same time, the theories of affect of the 16th century find their legitimate place in theological anthropology. The author analyses the foundations on which the education of affects was based in the Christian confessional context of the 16th century. The potential for emancipation becomes just as visible as immanent (self-)optimisation and pressure to conform. Two of the most important protagonists of 16th century pedagogy are examined: Erasmus of Rotterdam and Philipp Melanchthon. At the same time, the confessional differentiation of the pedagogy of piety and the regulation of affect is brought into view. Here, the study brings to light decisive differences rooted in the respective anthropologies. The work opens up the foundations for research into piety from a pedagogical perspective. Piety appears as a multi-layered concept with great potential for understanding the pedagogy of the 16th and 17th centuries.
    Description: In der vorliegenden historischen Studie wird erstmals das in der Frühen Neuzeit allgegenwärtige Erziehungsideal der Frömmigkeit systematisch erschlossen und im Kontext von Theologie, Anthropologie und Affektenlehre verortet. Im Kontext der Affekttheorien gewinnt der Frömmigkeitsbegriff an Tiefe und wird für pädagogische Fragestellungen fruchtbar gemacht. Zugleich finden die Affekttheorien des 16. Jahrhunderts in der theologischer Anthropologie ihren legitimen Ort. Der Autor analysiert, auf welchen Grundlagen die Erziehung der Affekte im christlich-konfessionellen Kontext des 16. Jahrhunderts beruhte. Das Emanzipationspotential wird dabei ebenso sichtbar wie immanenter (Selbst-)Optimierungs- und Anpassungsdruck. Untersucht werden zwei der wichtigsten Protagonisten der Pädagogik des 16. Jahrhunderts: Erasmus von Rotterdam und Philipp Melanchthon. Damit wird zugleich die konfessionelle Ausdifferenzierung der Frömmigkeitspädagogik und der Affektregulierung in den Blick genommen. Hier fördert die Untersuchung entscheidende, in der jeweiligen Anthropologie begründete Unterschiede zu Tage. Die Arbeit erschließt die Grundlagen für eine Frömmigkeitsforschung aus pädagogischer Perspektive. Frömmigkeit erscheint dabei als ein vielschichtiger Begriff mit großem Potential zum Verständnis der Pädagogik des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts.

In der Hoffnung auf nachhaltigere Effekte an Schulen gerät bei der Diskussion um Schulinspektion in Deutschland die Zusammenarbeit beteiligter Akteure zunehmend in den Fokus der Aufmerksamkeit. Christina Luig arbeitet anhand von Experteninterviews aus verschiedenen Akteursperspektiven Modi der Handlungskoordination heraus und identifiziert vorherrschende Handlungslogiken, die auf Steuerungsproblematiken und Rollenkonflikte im Akteurskonglomerat hinweisen. So lassen sich die Transferbedingungen von Inspektionsdaten in die Schulentwicklungspraxis besser verstehen und Überlegungen skizzieren, in welche Richtung sich Schulinspektion weiterdenken lassen sollte.

    Description: The study describes creative experiences as learning experiences of students and primary school children in the context of the Learning and Research Workshop Primary School of the TU Dresden (LuFo). The aim is to elaborate what is 'special' about learning in university learning workshops in order to contribute to the current discourse on the self-understanding of university learning workshops. The study emerged from the TUD-Sylber project Teaching, Learning and Research in Workshops, in which workshop seminars in the format of research-based learning in the LuFo were developed from 2016 to 2019 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jeanette Hoffmann. The seminar I developed, Didactic Research Workshop on Creative Writing, forms the framework for the empirical study. The central research question is: How does learning take place in university learning workshops? The starting point is the phenomenological understanding of learning as experience in connection with creative processes. This is examined in three objects: in writing processes of primary school children, in free children's texts as well as in reflection conversations with students.

Die zentrale Forschungsfrage lautet: Wie vollzieht sich Lernen in Hochschullernwerkstätten? Ausgangspunkt bildet das phänomenologische Verständnis von Lernen als Erfahrung in Verbindung mit Schöpferischen Prozessen. Dieses wird an drei Gegenständen untersucht: in Schreibprozessen von Grundschulkindern, an freien Kindertexten sowie in Reflexionsgesprächen mit Studierenden.

    Description: At the end of the book culture, enquiries about the self-understanding of school expand in the recognisable horizon of a transmedial network culture. Media-critical reform pedagogy holds on to talk and action as the leading medium and conceives school as a "media-resistant polis". In contrast, the mainstream school is justified as a 'literary counterculture' in which writing is to be defended as the highest achievement in the process of civilisation. In both lines of discourse on school pedagogy, school is conceived as a monomedial province. With reference to this, the present volume asserts: In mono-medial school provinces, which orient educational processes to a dominant leading medium, competences for a meaning-generating examination of topics, questions and problems of the establishing network culture are only marginally developed. Schools designed in this way are also less and less successful in connecting to the experiential horizons of children and young people who roam the extracurricular spectrum of media cultural architectures as transmedial nomads. Accordingly - also in view of the PISA results - the thesis of a new variant of school alienation must be examined. In critical distance to the perspectives presented, the potentiality of a media-ecological approach for a theorisation of school as a media-specific educational architecture is demonstrated. In doing so, the impact of media technologies on the contrasting shaping of spatiotemporal relations of cultural orders as well as synaesthetic relations of modes of perception will be examined. In relation to this, new educational potentials of transmedial networks can be heuristically identified. These are the focus of both the programmatic perspectives of media-ecological educational research and the conceptual outlook on schools in the image of a 'hypermedial plateau network'. (DIPF/Orig.)
    Description: Am Ende der Buchkultur expandieren Anfragen nach dem Selbstverständnis von Schule im erkennbaren Horizont einer transmedialen Netzwerkkultur. Die medienkritische Reformpädagogik hält an Talk und Action als Leitmedium fest und konzipiert Schule als "medienresistente Polis". Dagegen wird die Regelschule als 'literale Gegenkultur' begründet, in der es Schriftlichkeit als höchste Errungenschaft im Zivilisationsprozess zu verteidigen gilt. Schule wird in beiden schulpädagogischen Diskurslinien als monomediale Provinz entworfen. Darauf bezogen wird im vorliegenden Band behauptet: In monomedialen Schulprovinzen, die Bildungsprozesse an einem dominanten Leitmedium ausrichten, werden Kompetenzen für eine sinngenerierende Auseinandersetzung mit Themen, Fragen und Problemen der sich etablierenden Netzwerkkultur nur marginal entfaltet. Auch gelingt es einer so konzipierten Schule zunehmend weniger an die Erfahrungshorizonte der Kinder und Jugendlichen anzuknüpfen, die als transmediale Nomaden das außerschulische Spektrum medienkultureller Architekturen durchstreifen. Es ist entsprechend - auch mit Blick auf die PISA-Ergebnisse - die These von einer neuen Variante der Schulentfremdung zu prüfen. In kritischer Distanz zu den dargestellten Perspektiven wird die Potenzialität eines medienökologischen Ansatzes für eine Theoretisierung von Schule als medienspezifische Bildungsarchitektur aufgezeigt. Nachgegangen wird dabei der Wirkmächtigkeit von Medientechnologien sowohl auf die kontrastreiche Ausformung raumzeitlicher Relationen kultureller Ordnungen als auch synästhetischer Relationen von Wahrnehmungsmodi.     Description: This book discusses and analyses global policies and practices aimed at promoting equity in higher education participation and attainment. Although the massification of higher education systems has facilitated the participation of students from deprived backgrounds, socioeconomic inequalities persist in access to the most prestigious institutions and programmes. Privileged students benefit from a number of advantages in the competition for selective and scarce places: access to information, lower aversion to debt, higher expectations, better previous schooling and higher academic achievement. The chapters present a critical analysis of equity policies in different countries – with or without affirmative action policies, within a context of neoliberal policies or within a social democratic model – and the reasons why they have failed to promote equity and fairness, preventing students from achieving their full educational potential. This is an open access book.

    Description: This open access book includes a series of relevant policy research articles, elaborared in the framework of the “Quality in higher education: internationalisation and databases to enhance the Romanian education system” project, implemented by the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI), together with the Ministry of Education. The project aims to develop and implement systemic measures at tertiary education level, leading to an increased quality of the overall higher education system and universities better prepared for labour market requirements and international standards. The book focuses on areas of interest for Romanian higher education, such as systemic measures to improve access, participation and completion for (vulnerable) students, better promotion of the Romanian higher education to attract students, as well as instruments for a more efficient use of data at higher education level. Each article includes evidence-based policy proposals that could support new strategic initiatives in higher education, including new legislation. Additionally, the collection of articles tells a comprehensive story about the audacity of a higher education system which went through significant challenges to align itself with both European and international trends, as well as respond to national imperatives. Over the last three decades, since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Romanian higher education has undergone significant transformations, aiming to align itself to the latest developments and trends at European and international level. The National Law on Education no. 1/2011 has set the stage for a full implementation of the Bologna Process action lines, taking into account that Romania was already a part of the largest European intergovernmental process – currently the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) – as a founding member. However, since the adoption of this normative framework, the law suffered numerous amendments, making it challenging to observe and achieve coherence in its implementation. Furthermore, Romania is also currently redesigning the strategy for the alocation of European structural funds 2021-2027, based on two strategic documents - the new Education and Employment Operational Programme and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan which highlight the reform and investment priorities at a national level. At the same time, 2021 is a good time to analyze the level of implementation for the objectives and measures included in the National Strategy for Tertiary Education 2015-2020, the Europe 2020 Strategy, and the Bologna Process action lines in the 2010 – 2020 timeframe. Therefore, the present moment may be an important time to assess the impact of strategic documents and actions in the last decade and, possibly, to draft a new National Education Law, better adapted to current realities, starting from the recent initiative by the President of Romania – the Educated Romania strategic vision which was also politically assumed by the Romanian Government.

Supported by new administrative statistics, discourses and dispositives emerged that aimed not least at normalizing social deviance. This volume traces various discourses on the production of the pedagogical (a)normal between 1900 and 1970 and thus provides an important contribution to difference-theoretical analyses from the perspective of the history of education.

    Description: In diesem Open.Access-Buch wird gezeigt, dass eine verminderte Fähigkeit zur Simultanerfassung eine Ursache von Rechenschwäche sein kann. Mathematische Lernschwierigkeiten offenbaren sich häufig schon im frühen Grundschulunterricht. Die gängigen Lernmaterialien im mathematischen Anfangsunterricht verwenden zur Mengendarstellung die Kraft der Fünf, die für betroffene Schüler*innen eine besondere Hürde darstellt. In einem Educational Design Research-Projekt wurde gemeinsam mit Personen mit Trisomie 21, dem Down-Syndrom, das mathildr-System entwickelt. Das System eignet sich in der Binnendifferenzierung als Alternative zur Kraft der Fünf und kann zur Entwicklung einer Mengenvorstellung und zum Erlernen des Kopfrechnens verwendet werden. In einer formativen Evaluation wurden die Lernfortschritte von 30 Schüler*innen mit Trisomie 21 im Alter von vier bis 17 Jahren im Zusammenhang mit dem mathildr-System dokumentiert. Ein abschließendes Quasi-Experiment mit 36 Schüler*innen mit Trisomie 21 zeigt zudem, dass sich mathildr zur quasi-simultanen Mengenerfassung eignet. Im Rahmen des Forschungsprojektes wurden Lernmaterialien entwickelt, die Einzug an Schulen gehalten haben.

    Description: This open access book provides insights from Indigenous higher degree research (HDR) students on supervision practices in an Australian context. It examines findings from qualitative studies conducted with Indigenous HDR students from different academic disciplines, enrolled higher education institutions across Australia, and supervisors of Indigenous HDR students. Six types of data and their thematic analyses are presented, to understand the needs and experiences of both Indigenous HDR students and supervisors of Indigenous HDR students. This book also unpacks assumptions and commonly held beliefs about Indigenous HDR students, and shares what Indigenous HDRs report they need to experience success in higher education.     Description: This book is open access and discusses the re-imagining of the higher education sector. It exposes problems that relate to the way that universities have become over-managed business enterprises which may not reflect societal, national, or global educational needs. From there, it proposes some solutions, including three innovative programs, that make universities more responsive to needs, as well as reduce their impact on the environment. The central idea of this book is developing the ‘Distributed University,’ which distributes education to where it is needed, reducing local and global inequalities in access, and emphasizing local relevance in place of large centralized campuses, with a low impact on the environment. It emphasizes the distribution of trust in place of managerialism and collaboration in place of competition. By focusing on distributing education online, this book discusses how the higher education sector can be set up to adapt to the changes in the ways we work and learn today, and which will be required to adapt to and take advantage of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

A teacher from Germany opens her classroom to the videographic observations of a Japanese and a German research group. In order to build bridges between the different fields of work related to the same object - the teacher's teaching - the researchers and the teacher open their analytical perspectives of teaching to each other. The volume maps discursive border crossings between an action-oriented didactic, a qualitative-reconstructive and a development-oriented view of the Japanese Jugyo Kenkyu (Lesson Study), in which the different professional cultures meet without intervening transformatively in each other's fields. The different perspectives invite to perceive ideas and concepts of teaching and its research with other than the usual readings and to productively introduce related irritations into the debates about the research and development of teaching.

    Description: On the one hand, expectations of primary school teachers are high. On the other hand, a specific pedagogical professionalism of primary school teachers is doubted again and again. In fact, a compilation of requirements and competences that apply specifically to primary school teachers does not yet exist. While in the discourse on professional theory, challenges for and demands on the professionalism of secondary school teachers seem to be discussed and empirically developed, in the discourse on primary school pedagogy, methodological-didactic questions as well as structural framework conditions come into view, without grasping the consequences for the actions of primary school teachers and framing them in terms of professional theory. The aim of this volume is therefore to link the two discourses more closely and to look at the professionalisation of primary school teachers from different perspectives.
    Description: Einerseits sind die Erwartungen an Grundschullehrkräfte hoch. Andererseits wird immer wieder eine spezifische pädagogische Professionalität von Grundschullehrkräften bezweifelt. Tatsächlich existiert eine Zusammenstellung von Anforderungen und Kompetenzen, die speziell für Grundschullehrkräfte gelten, bislang nicht.     Description: This open access book provides teachers with approaches to strengthen reading comprehension instruction based on scientific research and evidence-based didactic principles. In this volume, the Progress in International Reading Study (PIRLS) framework is used to inform teachers about the skills and knowledge that students need to comprehend certain texts. The book gives practical guidance on how a teacher can help students to learn these skills, specifically, when teaching reading to multilingual students. Good practices from schools in five participating PIRLS countries—Chile, Chinese Taipei, England, Georgia, and Spain—are shared.     Description: This book is about the ways in which experiments can be employed in the context of research on learning technologies and child–computer interaction (CCI). It is directed at researchers, supporting them to employ experimental studies while increasing their quality and rigor. The book provides a complete and comprehensive description on how to design, implement, and report experiments, with a focus on and examples from CCI and learning technology research. The topics covered include an introduction to CCI and learning technologies as interdisciplinary fields of research, how to design educational interfaces and visualizations that support experimental studies, the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of experiments, methodological decisions in designing and conducting experiments (e.g. devising hypotheses and selecting measures), and the reporting of results. As well, a brief introduction on how contemporary advances in data science, artificial intelligence, and sensor data have impacted learning technology and CCI research is presented. The book details three important issues that a learning technology and CCI researcher needs to be aware of: the importance of the context, ethical considerations, and working with children. The motivation behind and emphasis of this book is helping prospective CCI and learning technology researchers (a) to evaluate the circumstances that favor (or do not favor) the use of experiments, (b) to make the necessary methodological decisions about the type and features of the experiment, (c) to design the necessary “artifacts” (e.g., prototype systems, interfaces, materials, and procedures), (d) to operationalize and conduct experimental procedures to minimize potential bias, and (e) to report the results of their studies for successful dissemination in top-tier venues (such as journals and conferences). This book is an open access publication.

    Description: This open access book evaluates research quality, quality of teaching and the relationship between the two through sound statistical methods, and in a comparative perspective with other European countries. In so doing, it covers an increasingly important topic for universities that affects university funding. It discusses whether university evaluation should be limited to a single factor or consider multiple dimensions of research, since academic careers, teaching and awarding degrees are intertwined. The chapters included in the book evaluate teaching and research, also taking the gender dimension into account, in order to understand where and when gender discrimination occurs in assessment. Divided into five sections, the book analyses the administrative data on the determinants of career completion of university students; increasing precariousness of academic careers, especially of young researchers; methods designed to assess research productivity when co-authorship and team production are becoming the standard practice; and interrelations between students’ achievements and teachers’ careers driven by research assessment. It brings together contributions from a large group of economists, statisticians and social scientists working under a project sponsored by ANVUR, the Italian agency for the evaluation of teaching and research of academic institutions. From an international perspective, the findings in this book are particularly interesting because despite low tuition costs, tertiary education in Italy has relatively low enrolment rates and even lower completion rates compared to those in other European and American countries. This book is of interest to researchers of the sociology of education, education policy, public administration, economics and statistics of education, and to administrators and policy makers working in the area of higher education.

    Description: This open access book addresses the growing trend in the field of early childhood education and care (ECEC) research named collaborative knowledge building in which researchers and ECEC personnel collaborate. This kind of research encompasses a number of approaches, such as design studies, action studies, Learning Studies, Lesson Studies, and combined research and development studies. There are important differences between these approaches, but they also share some features, which makes it possible to see them as examples of a particular tradition of knowledge building. Collaborative knowledge building constitutes close ties between developing practices of early childhood education and care, and generating empirically grounded theoretical knowledge. This book contributes to the methodology of practices-developing research by mapping this movement through exemplifying themes actualised in such studies, and through conceptualizing important and recurring gains and challenges. It also describes how the latter can be taken on.
