Description: The purpose of this book is to explain the process of establishing the seven Spanish grand colleges where a large part of the State and the Church elite servants were educated in the 16th and 17th centuries. To this end those colleges are considered, first, in the framework of the European collegiate movement, before placing them in the Spanish one. A study of the institutional system of those foundations follows and, in the process, several given truths are challenged.

Description: This book studies the configuration of the freedom of higher education in Spain and in Europe during the 19th century. After a comparative study of European reality (France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Great Britain and the United States), the book shows that in Spain, during the Revolutionary Sexennium (1868-1874), measures were carried out that were in the European vanguard. The study analyzes, at different stages, who had a monopoly on university education; if professors could freely teach a program; if students had freedom to organize their studies and exams; if the University was free to grant its degrees; and if the university degrees allowed the holder to directly and freely practice his profession. The book concludes with an extensive appendix of legislation, speeches and other virtually unknown materials of the Revolutionary Sexennium.---Este libro estudia la configuración de la libertad de enseñanza superior en España y en Europa durante el siglo XIX.

Description: The purpose of this book is to make a comparison the books of statutes of the seven Spanish elite colleges – the colegios mayores – and their changes throughout the time. To do so those books have been deconstructed first and reordered later, in accordance with the type of members of the college communities, their internal organization, core values and rules regarding daily life and the protection and control of the colleges. In practical terms this work is a companion book of part II of Escuelas de imperio. La formación de una elite en los Colegios Mayores (siglos XVI-XVII) (2019), where the foundations of the Spanish collegiate system are analyzed. The book includes a transcript of the constitutions and statutes of the College of Santa Cruz in Valladolid, whose last printed edition is from 1786.

Description: We describe the Miocene–Quaternary geological–structural evolution of the region between the Salar de Uyuni and de Atacama, Andes of Chile and Bolivia. We recognized four main tectonic events based on fold geometry, fault kinematics and stratigraphic data. The oldest event, of Miocene age, is characterized by folding and reverse faulting of the sedimentary successions with an E–W direction of shortening in the northern part of the studied area and a WNW–ESE shortening in the southern part. The following two events, of Pliocene age, are characterized by lower shortening amounts; they occurred first by reverse faulting with a NW–SE-trending greatest principal stress (ó1, computed with striated fault planes) and a vertical least principal stress (ó3), followed by pervasive strike-slip faulting with the same NW–SE-trending ó1 and a horizontal NE–SW ó3. The fourth event, dating to the late Pliocene–Quaternary is characterized by normal faulting: the ó3 still trends NE–SW, whereas the intermediate principal stress ó2 exchanged with ó1. Volcanism accompanied both the contractional, transcurrent and extensional tectonic phases. The Mio–Pliocene compression appears directly linked to a rapid convergence and an apparently important coupling between the continental and oceanic plates. The E–W to WNW–ESE direction of shortening of the Miocene structures and the NW–SE ó1 of the Pliocene structures seem to be more linked to an intra-Andean reorientation of structures following the WNW-directed absolute motion of the South-American Plate. The extensional deformations can be interpreted as related to gravity forces affecting the highest parts of the volcanic belt in a sort of asymmetrical (SW-ward) collapse of the belt.
