    Description: This open access book provides insight on how the tactical urbanism has the capacity to influence change in mobility practices such as cycling. COVID-19 crisis prompted the public authorities to rethink the use of public space in order to develop means of transport that are both efficient and adapted to the health context and their effects on cycling practices in Europe, North, and South America. Its contributors collectively reveal and evidence through policies analysis, mapping, and innovative qualitative analysis bridging video and interviews, how those new infrastructures and policies can be a trigger for change in a context of mobility transition. This book provides an important element on the way local authorities can act in a quicker and more agile way. While some decisions are specific to the context of the beginning of the pandemic, the analysis offers lessons on the way to implement the transition toward a low-carbon mobility, on the importance of processes based on trials and errors, on the political stakes of reallocating road space.

    Description: This open access book constitutes a transnational and multidisciplinary inquiry of the most pressing challenges faced by young people Not in Employment, nor in Education or Training (NEET) in rural areas across Europe. . Rural NEETs are one of the most invisible segments of the youth population, in spite of the fact that the percentage of NEETs is higher in the countryside, compared to those in suburban and urban areas across the EU and many of the Southern and Eastern European countries. This book identifies and analyses different factors that may contribute to or hamper youth social development and social inclusion. Among them are main individual features of rural NEETs, the quality and characteristics of rural NEETs' informal social networks and support, the singularities of formal and non-formal education in rural areas and how they shape the transition from school to work, the role of employment services in providing adequate institutional support, the importance of policy package designor the role of new paradigms of rural development to uphold vulnerable young people in the European countryside . The contributions offered in this book provide a new model of analysis and comprehension of rural NEETs' personal development and social inclusion. This book therefore establishes the state of the art regarding available knowledge on rural NEETs, and represents an inspirational resource for new research agendas on the subject of vulnerable rural youth in Europe.     Description: This open access book evaluates research quality, quality of teaching and the relationship between the two through sound statistical methods, and in a comparative perspective with other European countries. In so doing, it covers an increasingly important topic for universities that affects university funding. It discusses whether university evaluation should be limited to a single factor or consider multiple dimensions of research, since academic careers, teaching and awarding degrees are intertwined. The chapters included in the book evaluate teaching and research, also taking the gender dimension into account, in order to understand where and when gender discrimination occurs in assessment. Divided into five sections, the book analyses the administrative data on the determinants of career completion of university students; increasing precariousness of academic careers, especially of young researchers; methods designed to assess research productivity when co-authorship and team production are becoming the standard practice; and interrelations between students’ achievements and teachers’ careers driven by research assessment. It brings together contributions from a large group of economists, statisticians and social scientists working under a project sponsored by ANVUR, the Italian agency for the evaluation of teaching and research of academic institutions. From an international perspective, the findings in this book are particularly interesting because despite low tuition costs, tertiary education in Italy has relatively low enrolment rates and even lower completion rates compared to those in other European and American countries. This book is of interest to researchers of the sociology of education, education policy, public administration, economics and statistics of education, and to administrators and policy makers working in the area of higher education.

Estos procesos han provocado que el mercado y el sector económico tengan cada vez más injerencia en el sistema educativo en general, y en el superior universitario en particular.     Description: This open access book shows how the adoption of global justice, such as eradication of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), has given rise to controversy, resistance, and transformation at the national, regional, and grass-roots levels in African and Asian countries where FGM/C has been practiced. It provides readers with up-to-date information about the effects of the campaign to eradicate FGM/C and the present situation of those countries, to which preceding books on FGM/C have scarcely referred. Adopting “zero tolerance” as a policy of eradication, WHO and other UN agencies have opposed any type of FGM/C, and many African countries have criminalized the practice. Although the campaign is based on the human rights discourse which is shared globally, the controversies concerning eradication of FGM/C on the national level and the responses of communities on the local level in those countries are diverse and complicated. Various actors such as NGOs, government officials, religious leaders, medical workers, and local inhabitants are embroiled and negotiate with each other concerning its eradication. With this book, readers are provided with an in-depth analysis of the complicated controversies and responses of local communities, referring to their particular historical and social backgrounds. The book provides two chapters on FGM/C in Asian countries, where not many studies have done yet. It also presents readers with a study of the arguments and responses to FGM/C of African immigrants by Australian health-care professionals as well as a study of male circumcision eradication campaigns, which have been carried on in tandem with FGM/C eradication campaigns but still not have been successful. With its many elaborate case studies, this book is highly recommended to readers who seek an in-depth and up-to-date integrated overview of the FGM/C studies as well as studies on the applicability of global justice to local communities.

A esta se sumaron otras instituciones como el Instituto Superior de Relaciones Internacionales “Raúl Roa García". Fue una experiencia muy positiva para puertorriqueños y cubanos. Afortunadamente no quedó solo en interesantes conferencias e intercambios y visitas diversas. Más allá del enriquecimiento mutuo que significó el contacto directo entre boricuas y cubanos –que permitió conocernos mejor y constatar, una vez más, cuanto de común hay entre nosotros– nos lega esta interesante compilación de artículos.

    Description: La educación y los métodos pedagógicos que se desarrollan en Guatemala son el resultado de la actualización de un pasado colonial anudado al pensamiento patriarcal imperante. Este entramado ha posibilitado y vuelto legítimas prácticas institucionalizadas de violencia que extraen los medios de vida a quienes, por haber sido constituidos como sujetos indeseables, no son reconocidos como humanos por el actual régimen antropocéntrico. El texto que presentamos a continuación se centra en la realidad antes mencionada y, para su desarrollo, se dividió en tres partes cuyo objetivo es trasladar al lector nuestras experiencias en el ámbito educativo.

    Description: Esta edición se realiza en el contexto del Centenario de la Reforma Universitaria cordobesa de 1918 y del cincuentenario de los hechos de 1968: el Mayo Francés, el ’68 uruguayo, la passeata dos cen mil brasileña y la masacre de Tlatelolco. El año elegido constituye un ícono, donde el sentido común ha condensado toscamente la gran cantidad de movilizaciones estudiantiles inmediatamente anteriores y posteriores, como las ocurridas en Alemania Federal, Bélgica, Checoslovaquia, China, Corea, Egipto, España, Gran Bretaña, Estados Unidos, Italia, Japón, Polonia, la Unión Soviética y Yugoslavia. En nuestro continente, además de los casos mencionados, también hubo grandes luchas estudiantiles en Argentina, Colombia y Chile, que aparecen en este volumen, y en Bolivia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Perú y Venezuela, que lamentablemente no cuentan con capítulos específicos en nuestro libro.     Description: En ninguna otra época de la historia de la educación brasileña la infancia ha recibido tanta atención como en los días de hoy a tal punto que la educación infantil pasó a integrar la educación básica obligatoria. La aprobación de la Ley nº 12.796 en abril de 2013 que hizo compulsoria la matrícula a los cuatro años de edad en la Educación Infantil es tan sólo uno de los indicativos de cómo el tema de la infancia es central en la atención hodierna de educadores, gestores, investigadores, políticos y de la sociedad de modo general. Sin embargo, esa centralidad de la infancia e incluso la aprobación de la referida Ley, no nos garantiza que de veras se efectúe el cuidado educacional del niño. Por esa razón, tratar de la infancia, de su presencia en la escuela de forma compulsoria, de las condiciones de infraestructura para acoger a ese niño que llega más temprano a la escuela, de la manera como los municipios y las escuelas se están preparando para atender a esta nueva demanda formativa, son desafíos que necesitan ser enfrentados. El propósito de esta obra reside en contribuir para la calidad de la educación, especialmente la educación infantil. Esta obra presenta un estudio que hace una fotografía del esfuerzo de un municipio brasileño, de la región Sur, para hacer frente a la obligatoriedad legal de ofrecer educación infantil de calidad a los niños de 4 y 5 años. Más que etapa compulsoria, reflexiona sobre el derecho de tal nivel de escolarización, capaz de aportar elementos que contribuyan con las etapas subsecuentes de la Educación Básica. En esta perspectiva, el texto conyuga la ampliación del acceso con el desafío de la calidad.

    Description: This open access book discusses the emergence and development, and in some cases also the disappearance, of social movements and activism in Sweden during the 1980s. Its aim is to nuance and problematize the image of the 1980s as unilaterally dominated by right-wing politics and neoliberalism, as well as the idea of a conflict-free Scandinavian model. The 1980s have often been described as a period when the influence of radical-left movements during the 1970s diminished. Instead, this book argues that the 1980s was a decade in which new radical social movements emerged in opposition to the prevalent political order, including the nuclear disarmament movement, the women's movement, anti-fascist movements, and the punk and environmental movements. The authors also demonstrate how issues such as squatting, nuclear resistance, rent strikes and the environment, included a variety of contentious collective action. Sweden, therefore, presents an interesting example of how resistance and conflict in a strong welfare state have been influenced by contentious social movements. Placing Sweden within the wider context of Scandinavia and Europe, this edited collection makes an important contribution to the history of social movements.

    Description: This open access book provides insight on how the tactical urbanism has the capacity to influence change in mobility practices such as cycling. COVID-19 crisis prompted the public authorities to rethink the use of public space in order to develop means of transport that are both efficient and adapted to the health context and their effects on cycling practices in Europe, North, and South America. Its contributors collectively reveal and evidence through policies analysis, mapping, and innovative qualitative analysis bridging video and interviews, how those new infrastructures and policies can be a trigger for change in a context of mobility transition. This book provides an important element on the way local authorities can act in a quicker and more agile way. While some decisions are specific to the context of the beginning of the pandemic, the analysis offers lessons on the way to implement the transition toward a low-carbon mobility, on the importance of processes based on trials and errors, on the political stakes of reallocating road space.

    Description: This open access publication outlines the underlying framework for gathering data on civic knowledge, attitudes, and engagement as well as contextual information, and it describes the assessment design for the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement’s (IEA) International Civic and Citizenship Education Study 2022. The IEA International Civic and Citizenship Study (ICCS) investigates how young people are prepared to undertake their roles as citizens in a range of countries in the second decade of the 21st century. ICCS 2022 is a continuation of two earlier IEA studies, ICCS 2009 and ICCS 2016, and, for the first time, this survey includes the option of a computer-based assessment. Responding to enduring and emerging challenges of educating young people in a world where contexts of democracy and civic participation continue to change, the study addresses issues related to young people’s engagement through digital technologies, migration and diversity, perceptions of the political system, global citizenship, and education for sustainable development. Over the past 50 years, IEA has conducted comparative research studies in a range of domains focusing on educational policies, practices, and outcomes in many countries around the world. Prior to ICCS 2022, IEA conducted four international comparative studies of civic and citizenship education, with a first survey implemented in 1971, a second one in 1999, third in 2009 and fourth in 2016. ICCS 2022 data will allow education systems to evaluate the strengths of educational policies, both internationally, and in a regional context, and to measure progress in achieving critical components of their educational policy agendas.

    Description: Dieses Open-Access-Buch beschäftigt sich mit Umweltproblemen, die selbst im Kontext der heutigen globalen ökologischen Krise weitgehend gesellschaftlich unsichtbar bleiben, da sie ihre oftmals schwerwiegenden sozial-ökologischen Auswirkungen allmählich, schleichend und über längere Zeiträume hinweg in Form einer slow violence (Rob Nixon) entfalten. Am Beispiel der toxischen Industrieabfälle (Tailings) der chilenischen Bergbauindustrie werden in der Untersuchung anhand von drei Fallstudien die zentralen Gründe und Dimensionen dieser Unsichtbarkeit dargestellt und ihr Zusammenspiel analysiert.

    Description: This open access book examines places on the margins and the dynamics through which a marginal position of a place is created. Specifically, it explores how places, mostly in sparsely populated areas, often perceived as immobile and frozen in time, come into being and develop through interference of everyday mobilities and creative practices that cut across the spheres of culture and nature as usually defined. Through fieldwork and case studies from areas in Iceland, Finland, Greenland, and Scotland, the book’s twelve chapters draw out the multiple relations through which places emerge, where people compose their lives as best they can with their surroundings. A special concern is to explore the links between travelling, landscape, and material culture and how places and margins are enacted through mobilities and creative practices of humans and other beings. The emphasis on mobility disturbs the perception of a place as a bounded entity and offers a useful and necessary understanding of places as mobile and fluid. Mobilities on the Margins is a novel and timely contribution to the exploration of human and more-than-human interactions in a world of increasingly fluid mobilities and insistent crises.

    Description: El presente libro es resultado de una serie de contribuciones hechas por destacados miembros del Grupo de Trabajo “Integración y Unidad Latinoamericana" a lo largo del año 2018. Originariamente inspiradas por el debate y los interrogantes surgidos durante la reunión anual del grupo realizada en Buenos Aires los días 06 y 07 de noviembre de 2017, cuyo propósito fue analizar la crisis del multilateralismo y su impacto sobre el hemisferio - con foco en los procesos de integración regional. En el mes siguiente de ese mismo año, se continuó profundizando en dicha discusión paralelamente a la realización de la Reunión Ministerial de la Organización Mundial de Comercio que sesionó en la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Estas iniciativas impulsadas por el GT –como parte de un programa regional más amplio de los GT de CLACSO–, aborda en términos más especícos el análisis del punto de inexión o de reconguración del proceso de globalización y de su correspondiente sistema multilateral hegemónico, así como las implicancias que tales cambios conllevan para los esquemas de integración de América Latina y el Caribe. Estos fenómenos tienen como trasfondo el estallido de la crisis nanciera de 2008 en Estados Unidos y su posterior mutación en crisis global, la cual no ha podido ser superada del todo hasta ahora.

    Description: Se espera que este libro, en primer lugar, nutra la reexión sobre la apremiante necesidad de repensar la formación de los docentes y el desarrollo del pensamiento crítico en los países de origen de los investigadores y en las universidades, las facultades y los centros de enseñanza donde se hallan vinculados. En segundo lugar, construir comunidad académica en el contexto del Grupo de Trabajo de CLACSO “Formación docente y pensamiento crítico", de tal manera que se fortalezca la docencia y la investigación en contextos multisituados de la región latinoamericana, a la vez que se posibilitan proyectos transformadores de realidades en diferentes niveles educativos. La lectura de estas siete obras de Freire ha suscitado reexiones del orden político, social, económico, educativo y cultural que, se aspira, entren en diálogo con otras voces interesadas en la formación de docentes en todo el sentido del concepto. Finalmente, hay que anotar que el método Freire sigue en vía de ser reconocido y puesto en práctica en los escenarios reales y particulares de aquellos docentes interesados en su propia formación y en la de sus estudiantes como pensadores críticos. La autorevisión, la autocrítica, la evaluación y los ajustes al mismo método se constituyen en parte de sus características.

    Description: This open access book presents a series of speculative, experimental modes of inquiry in the present times of environmental damage that have come to be known as the age of the Anthropocene. Throughout the book authors develop more nuanced ways of engaging with the environmentally vulnerable Arctic. They counter distancing, exoticising, and even apocalyptic imaginaries of the Arctic by staying proximate with mundane places and beings of the north. The volume engages and plays with familiar tourism concepts, such as hospitality, visiting, difference, care, openness, and distance, while expanding the focus from binary and human-centric approaches of hosts and guests to questions of wellbeing among multispecies communities. The transdisciplinary group of contributors share a curiosity about how staying proximate may provide theoretical depth and epistemological openings to attend to current tensions and to diversify the ways we do and enact research.     Description: Este libro pone en diálogo las discusiones del buen vivir con una serie de propuestas que se desplegaron entre mediados de la década de los sesenta y comienzos de la década del ochenta en América Latina. En aquél contexto, Fundación Bariloche, Oscar Varsavsky y, en buena medida la CEPAL, se ocuparon de formular alternativas al patrón de desarrollo centrado en el crecimiento económico, al tiempo que mostraron la factibilidad de esos otros estilos de desarrollo mediante el diseño de modelos matemáticos multivariados. Más recientemente, las propuestas del buen vivir, inspiradas en el Sumak Kawsay, han involucrado una profunda crítica al neoliberalismo y su modelo civilizatorio. A lo largo de los capítulos se traza una radiografía explorando en los significados de la escuela secundaria, así como en las expectativas de las y los jóvenes acerca de lo que ocurre en el espacio escolar, particularmente en los aspectos que les gustan y los que cambiarían, y se indaga en las normas escolares realizando un recorrido que da cuenta de distintas formas de construcción de ciudadanía. Los autores apelan a diferentes situaciones escolares para dar cuenta de las maneras en que se relacionan las generaciones hoy y de la construcción de experiencias escolares más gratificantes; incorporando así nuevas discusiones al necesario debate sobre ese ciclo de nuestra educación formal.

    Description: Esta coletânea reúne trabalhos de acadêmicos e especialistas componentes do Grupo de Trabalho “Políticas públicas y territorios" do Conselho Latino-americano de Ciências Sociais (CLACSO). Apresentam-se aqui os resultados de nove pesquisas acerca de experiências de políticas públicas em distintos recortes temporais e seus impactos territoriais e duas contribuições teóricas. Investigar e refletir em torno das políticas públicas implica em aproximar-se do “Estado em ação" ou dos modos que as ações dos governos foram e são levadas a cabo. Significa igualmente considerar que as esferas do Estado (municipal, metropolitano, estadual/provincial, nacional/federal) encontram-se em constante mutação. Neste sentido, historicizar as políticas públicas adquire relevância porque permite estabelecer suas continuidades e descontinuidades como também revelar os projetos políticos que as conceberam. As políticas (policies) — instrumentos de governo que classificam os indivíduos e as populações coletivizando modos de ação e formas de expressão — podem resultar na via de acesso a estudos comparativos entre os diversos Estados latino-americanos. A perspectiva de organização deste livro surgiu também a partir das mudanças de paradigmas nas Ciências Sociais que convidam à busca de nexos e vínculos para compreender o urbano e o regional na trama das relações sociais e territoriais.

    Description: This open access book challenges international policy ‘groupthink’ about lifelong learning. Adult learning – too long a servant of business competitiveness – should be reimagined as central to democratic society. Young adults, especially from disadvantaged backgrounds, engage more in education and training, and learn more day-to-day at work, if provision is democratically organised and based on enduring and inclusive institutional networks, and when jobs encourage and reward the acquisition of skills. Using innovative qualitative and quantitative methods, the contributors develop a critical perspective on dominant policies, investigating – across the European Union and Australia – how ‘vulnerable’ young adults experience programmes designed to improve their ‘employability’, and how ‘skills for jobs’ policies squeeze out wider – and wiser – ideas of what education and training should do. Chapters show why some provision works for those with poor educational backgrounds, why labour market and educational institutions matter so much, how adult education can empower and expand people’s agency, and the challenges of using artificial intelligence in lifelong learning policy-making. Several investigate the pivotal role of workplace learning in organisational life, and in learning during ‘emerging adulthood’. Important comparative studies of workplace learning in the metals, retail and adult education sectors show the role of management, trade unions and social movements in young adults’ learning.

El estudio, que explica cómo se establecen los lineamientos y prioridades de la nueva política educativa, se centra en la experiencia del Proyecto Hondureño de Escuelas comunitarias (PROHECO), situado principalmente en el área rural, y financiado por el Banco Mundial en sus inicios. En este trabajo se argumenta que la nueva política educativa se fundamenta en una política social minimista, que reduce las necesidades básicas a la mínima expresión. así, paradójicamente, aunque la educación continúa siendo una prioridad en la lucha contar la pobreza, la inversión educativa continúa reduciéndose.

    Description: This research project explores the colonial hegemony and pedagogical contradictions imbedded within the process of collective-national identity development among Palestinian students in the Israeli formal educational system through inductive examination of the dialectical interplay between the three agents of the formal educational process; namely, the formal curriculum, the students and the teachers. The study utilised Grounded Theory (Glaser & Strauss, 1967) as a qualitative research method and used three sets of data: (a) the formal curriculum of history used in grades 7-12 in Palestinian schools in Israel, (b) in-depth qualitative interviews with 7 History Palestinian teachers who are officially employed by the Israeli government and teach Palestinian students in the segregated Palestinian schools in Israel, (c) in-depth interviews with 14 Palestinian college students who are graduates of this formal educational system.

La escuela media en particular es un espacio que contribuye a la formación de subjetividades juveniles, es un ámbito de interpretación e integración simbólica, de estructuración de proyectos y expectativas de vida.     Description: Este libro reúne reflexiones desde una perspectiva latinoamericana, a 70 años de la sanción de la gratuidad universitaria en Argentina. Los tres bloques en los que se organiza el libro proponen sendos abordajes sobre el tema: el primero se enfoca en la experiencia argentina desde una perspectiva histórica; el segundo aborda las experiencias de distintos países de América Latina y Estados Unidos desde las perspectivas del cogobierno, el financiamiento y las iniciativas tendientes al desarancelamiento; el tercero reflexiona sobre los significados, los límites y las potencialidades de la gratuidad en el marco de sociedades desiguales. Abordar la gratuidad no significa -como sostiene Ernesto Villanueva- tratar con un legado exento de tensiones y contradicciones. Más bien, su reivindicación pone en cuestión los relatos historiográficos hegemónicos que se concentraron en oponer lo nacional-popular a la cuestión universitaria e intelectual, realizando una aproximación más compleja a la trama de discursos que configuran las luchas por el derecho a la educación universitaria en nuestra región. "Nuestra región cuenta con experiencias distintas y diversas, pero que comparten un mandato: a la universidad debe entrar el pueblo y ella debe estar en función de un proyecto político de nación que tenga como norte el desarrollo soberano con inclusión social."

    Description: This open access book engages with the concept of reproductive justice by exploring case studies of struggles around abortion in the context of rising anti-genderism, religious fundamentalism, and ethno-nationalism. Based on rich qualitative data offering in-depth analyses from different geographical, political and cultural contexts, the book explores how reproductive justice is understood, contested and given meaning. Chapters further develop the Black feminist concept of reproductive justice in a critical dialogue with postcolonial theory and explore the strength of transnational feminist practices. This book thus offers a fresh approach to the issue of abortion by engaging with contemporary political and cultural processes, and it expands the narrow notions of women’s rights, particularly notions of property rights over bodies, towards an analysis of the political economy of social reproduction and how it affects bodies that can be pregnant.     Description: En toda América Latina -advierte Gunther Dietz- los sistemas educativos nacionales vienen arrastrando una importante deuda histórica con los pueblos originarios y con sus juventudes. Un rápido balance de las respuestas a las demandas de una educación específica redunda en una educación de baja calidad, descontextualizada, y cultural y lingüísticamente impertinente y enajenante, especialmente en la educación superior. En México, donde este problema se agudiza, el subsecretario de Educación Superior Luciano Concheiro calificó la situación como "brutal desigualdad": solo un 1.2% de las y los jóvenes hablantes de alguna lengua originaria de México logran ingresar a la educación superior.

    Description: Escuelas de Dignidad es el desenlace de una larga investigación en escuelas públicas argentinas y brasileñas que propone una porfiada utopía en tiempos inciertos y amenazantes. Quiere contribuir a instalar la política como un derecho humano que abre las puertas a los demás de derechos. Valoriza las prácticas de las y los directores de escuelas que, desde una peleada autonomía, construyeron currículos de educación popular para los niños y adolescentes de las clases subalternizadas: los marginados urbanos, los campesinos y los pueblos originarios en distintas regiones del país y en el sur de Brasil. Las historias de vida de los protagonistas permiten comprender cómo estas experiencias fueron posibles y aportan criterios para la formación de nuevas generaciones de educadores que se comprometan con la expansión de la educación popular en las escuelas públicas.

    Description: Faltaba un libro sobre la actualidad de la reforma agraria en América Latina y el Caribe. Los estudiosos y los elaboradores de políticas de desarrollo de la agricultura en el continente latinoamericano carecían de una visión de conjunto para la innovación en las investigaciones y en las políticas públicas. Conocer las semejanzas y las diferencias de la cuestión agraria es fundamen tal para comprender la permanente lucha por la tierra, los avances y retrocesos de las agriculturas campesinas, indígenas y quilombolas en las disputas territoriales con el agronegocio. Antes, se tenía solamente una visión de las experiencias de luchas populares y políticas de reforma agraria referentes al propio país. Ahora, podemos conocer estas realidades en los estudios sobre Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Cuba, México, Paraguay y tener una visión amplia en los artículos sobre Améri ca Latina. La actualidad de la reforma agraria presentada en este libro demuestra que las luchas de los pueblos del campo avanzan determinadas por las coyunturas políticas y económicas. En períodos de gobiernos neoliberales ocurre el fortalecimiento del agronegocio y en períodos post-neoliberales también hay un fortalecimiento de la agricultura familiar. Este libro traza una visión histórica de este proceso y es resultado de profundas y extensas investigaciones presentadas en las reuniones del Grupo de Trabajo CLACSO: Desarrollo Rural: Campesinado, Disputas Territoriales y Decolonialidad.

    Description: El Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO) junto a la Editorial OCTAEDRO de Barcelona y El Diario de la Educación, convocaron a principios de 2018 un concurso internacional bajo el nombre Educación crítica y emancipación. Se recibieron 155 postulaciones, de las cuales, luego de la revisión técnica, 134 estuvieron en condiciones de ser evaluadas cualitativamente por el Comité Internacional para considerar la calidad, pertinencia y coherencia de las propuestas de acuerdo a las bases de la convocatoria. El proceso de evaluación estuvo a cargo de un Comité Internacional compuesto por quince expertos/as de ocho países: Judith Naidorf (Argentina), Joan Rue (España), Sebastián Gómez (Argentina), Carolina Horta (Colombia), Anahí Guelman (Argentina), Mónica Salazar (Colombia), Juan Carlos Hernández (El Salvador), Pablo Martinis (Uruguay), Olaya Dotel (República Dominicana), Juan León (España), Cibele Lima Rodrigues (Brasil), Rodrigo Cornejo (Chile), Jenny Assael (Chile), Orlando Pulido (Colombia) y Jaume Carbonell (España). De acuerdo a la evaluación y la alta calidad de los ensayos presentados se decidió, además de los cinco premios ganadores anunciados en la convocatoria, reconocer una mención especial y cinco menciones honoríficas. Este publicación reúne los ensayos, en un libro colectivo, de los cinco ganadores y la mención especial, que tendrán su apoyo en la participación de la 8º Conferencia Latinoamericana y Caribeña en Ciencias Sociales a realizarse en Buenos Aires del 19 al 23 de noviembre de 2018.

    Description: Creemos que la construcción político-pedagógica y teórico-conceptual que se sintetiza en la noción de “praxis crítica emancipatoria" es tremendamente productiva para la educación emancipadora y las pedagogías críticas latinoamericanas, porque se opone a concepciones tecnicistas, neoliberales y hegemónicas del campo educativo y pedagógico; porque recupera la actividad transformadora del ser humano, reivindicando la articulación entre la comprensión y la transformación de la realidad; porque reivindica la importancia de la construcción de alternativas para la prefiguración de la sociedad del porvenir, y por tanto, alimenta la utopía y la esperanza; porque exige afectarse con el dolor y el sufrimiento del otro o la otra, indignarse y activar el ejercicio político de la resistencia; porque reclama el desarrollo de la acción política desde abajo, de la mano de los pueblos, comunidades y sujetos oprimidos, explotados y excluidos.

    Description: Este trabajo se basa en el análisis de los resultados de la Encuesta Nacional sobre la Estructura Social (ENES), realizada en el marco del Programa de Investigación sobre la Sociedad Argentina Contemporánea (Pisac). En él se recupera una valiosa tradición académica latinoamericana, en el sentido de dar visibilidad a los problemas de la exclusión, la marginalidad y las desigualdades no sólo con el fin de describirlos y explicarlos, sino también para poner en debate académico, social y político el alcance de las políticas de desarrollo vigentes. Más allá de que los datos generados, disponibles en acceso abierto, pueden servir para investigaciones muy variadas, desde un amplio abanico de enfoques teóricos, el sentido epistemológico, teórico y político de la información recogida se nutre de una perspectiva crítica de las actuales condiciones socioeconómicas estructurales que atraviesan a nuestra sociedad.

    Description: La construcción del trabajo de enseñar tiene una rica historia de luchas, debates, disputas y de propuestas. Algunas de esas manifestaciones alcanzaron mayor institucionalización que otras, pero todas fueron construyendo componentes de un rol que ha producido mucha vida hasta hoy. Esas expresiones consolidaron también una imagen social acerca de qué es un o una docente, qué debe esperarse de él o ella y cuáles son sus atributos. La docencia –como trabajo y como rol social– es una de esas prácticas sociales que se han sedimentado y cuyos puntos de origen, así como las decisiones que contribuyeron a su conformación, se han vuelto menos evidentes. Desplegar ceremonias tiene que ver con generar condiciones para transmitir, traspasar, recibir y albergar, establecer características para que se produzca algo que no estaba dado antes.

    Description: Este libro tiene el objetivo de identificar las dinámicas centrales en los procesos de internacionalización de los Posgrados en Brasil y México, entre 2010 y 2014, analizando particularmente las experiencias de Movilidad Académica Internacional de estudiantes de dos programas de doctorado en Educación y las contribuciones que estas traen para la formación académica y producción científica de los mismos. Se presenta organizado en cuatro capítulos. El primero propone una radiografía de los macrocosmos que albergan los programas de posgrado seleccionados, desde su institucionalización hasta la actualidad; es decir, un panorama histórico del campo de posgrado en Brasil y en México. Consecuentemente, el segundo capítulo expone el análisis de documentos, tanto los referidos a las directrices de política exterior en curso, como los que incluyen las políticas federales para la internacionalización del posgrado, reflejadas en las políticas institucionales implementadas al interior de los dos doctorados en Educación seleccionados, durante el periodo de estudio elegido; principalmente, aquellas que fomentaron la MAI. Los últimos dos capítulos muestran los efectos generados por las movilidades académicas, a partir de los datos construidos a través de la realización de las entrevistas, buscando dar voz a los protagonistas de las experiencias.

    Description: This open access book offers the first in-depth study of the history and current debates surrounding electronic cigarettes comparing the UK, US and Australia. Since their introduction, e-cigarettes have been the subject of much public, media and regulatory attention, with discussion centring on whether these devices encourage or discourage smoking. This study delves into the history of policymaking and institutions in three countries which have taken different approaches to the regulation of e-cigarettes. In the UK, the tradition of harm reduction through nicotine has helped form a response which has endorsed e-cigarettes, though not without considerable controversy. In contrast, the US has a cessation-only anti-tobacco agenda, and Australia has effectively banned e-cigarettes. This book argues that each country frames the long-term use of nicotine differently and prioritises the health of different groups within the population of smokers or non-smokers, set against a broad backdrop of national responses to addiction. By taking this comparative approach, the authors explore the relationship between history, evidence and policy in public health more widely.
