Description:
Data on the community of the invader bivalve mollusc Anadara kagoshimensis in the Azov Sea are presented. It was first recorded in the Kazantip Bay (Azov Sea) in 1989. During desalination period (2000-2006), when average salinity of the water body was lower than 10.0 ‰, the decrease in the Anadara development rate and reduction of the community habitats in the sea part were observed. Stable increase in water salinity has been observed in the Azov Sea since 2007, which caused successful acclimatization of the mollusc in the area of the sea itself, and it also invaded the Taganrog Bay. The data on taxonomic composition, abundance and biomass of the Anadara community and its preferences of the bottom sediment type and salinity in the Azov Sea are presented. In the growing season, biomass of the studied species in the community varied at the range from 87.0 to 815.7 g/m2. The material used for the research included zoobenthos samples, collected during the surveys of
the FSBSI «AzNIIRKH» in 2015, when average annual salinity of the Azov Sea made up 13.37 ‰. At each station, sediment samples were taken twice, using Petersen dredge with sampling area of 0.1 m2.
