    Beschreibung: How small-scale drones, satellites, kites, and balloons are used by social movements for the greater good. Drones are famous for doing bad things: weaponized, they implement remote-control war; used for surveillance, they threaten civil liberties and violate privacy. In The Good Drone, Austin Choi-Fitzpatrick examines a different range of uses: the deployment of drones for the greater good. Choi-Fitzpatrick analyzes the way small-scale drones—as well as satellites, kites, and balloons—are used for a great many things, including documenting human rights abuses, estimating demonstration crowd size, supporting anti-poaching advocacy, and advancing climate change research. In fact, he finds, small drones are used disproportionately for good; nonviolent prosocial uses predominate. Choi-Fitzpatrick's broader point is that the use of technology by social movements goes beyond social media—and began before social media. From the barricades in Les Misérables to hacking attacks on corporate servers to the spread of #MeToo on Twitter, technology is used to raise awareness, but is also crucial in raising the cost of the status quo. New technology in the air changes politics on the ground, and raises provocative questions along the way. What is the nature and future of the camera, when it is taken out of human hands? How will our ideas about privacy evolve when the altitude of a penthouse suite no longer guarantees it? Working at the leading edge of an emerging technology, Choi-Fitzpatrick takes a broad view, suggesting social change efforts rely on technology in new and unexpected ways.

    Beschreibung: Quizás después de la salud y la economía, el tercer gran damnificado con la crisis planetaria es el mundo del trabajo, los mercados laborales advierten cambios sensibles: competencia global, aumento del desempleo en los mercados formales, mayor vulnerabilidad de los mercados informales, profundidad de la precariedad, generalización de la incertidumbre laboral para todos. La mayor consecuencia de esta crisis y gran depresión planetaria de la que quizás nos demoremos toda esta década siguiente en recuperarnos, como fue el caso de la gran depresión de 1929, es que deberemos soportar grandes pérdidas, lo que no deja de enfrentarnos a un proceso de trauma y duelo por ello. Se perderán empleos, 195 millones, en el mundo y 14 millones en América Latina dice la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT); se perderá capacidad adquisitiva derivada de una constricción del salario, en algunos sectores perderán hasta el 50 % de su ingreso mensual (turismo, entretenimiento, transporte, etc.). Se perderá también riqueza sobre todo en los que estaban en condición de independencia laboral, autónomos, y emprendedores, quienes no solo han perdido sus empleos, sino sus empresas, sus emprendimientos; perderán lo que habían ganado y hasta los ahorros de toda su vida, perderán su patrimonio. Los empleados, en su gran mayoría, perderán no solo el empleo y el valor de su salario, también perderán todos aquellos beneficios adicionales: primas legales y extralegales, apoyos económicos para educación y bienestar, bonos complementarios de compensación, etc. Estas pérdidas han quedado profundizadas de manera acelerada, en cuestión de semanas; los efectos y capacidad de recuperación se calculan en no pocos años.

    Beschreibung: Lieselott Herforth (1916-2010) war von 1965-1968 die erste deutsche Universitätsrektorin (TU Dresden) - und als Physikerin erfolgreich in einer Männerdomäne. In Berlin, Leipzig, Merseburg und Dresden beschäftigte sie sich u.a. mit radioaktiven Isotopen und der Strahlenmessung. Ihr Grundlagenwerk »Praktikum der Angewandten Radioaktivität und Radiochemie« (gem. mit Hartwig Koch) wird noch heute bundesweit in der Lehre eingesetzt und stetig aktualisiert. Spät trat sie in die SED ein und war Mitglied mehrerer hoher Gremien der DDR. Neben der Forschung engagierte sie sich für den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs und die Gleichstellung. Diese erste umfassende Biographie anlässlich ihres 100. Geburtstags zeichnet den Werdegang der Pionierin nach.

    Beschreibung: En América Latina y especialmente en Colombia una de las principales barreras para el ejercicio pleno de los derechos humanos, particularmente el de la educación, ha sido la discriminación o exclusión de las personas o grupos que históricamente han representado las minorías dentro del sistema educativo. Hacer frente a esta problemática y a sus causas, en el suroccidente colombiano, ha sido el foco de atención en el diseño, estructura y puesta en marcha de la prueba piloto de la creación del Observatorio de Educación Inclusiva–OEI de la Facultad de Educación de la Universidad Santiago de Cali. Una de las experiencias más significativas de su funcionamiento, ha sido el trabajo articulado con el Centro de Apoyo para la Inclusión y la REIS (Red de Educación e Inclusión Social), las cuales constituyen dos de las cinco unidades operativas del observatorio, con una I.E del municipio de Candelaria–Valle, Colombia. En ese lugar, se abordó la inclusión desde las reflexiones sobre las ¨Perspectivas de Género y la Diversidad Sexual con enfoque diferencial¨, con el propósito de poder sentar bases para la prevención del bullying, la salud mental en los contextos educativos, así como también, para la prevención de la intimidación y la ideación suicida, y finalmente, para garantizar la sana convivencia, los am bientes escolares libres de discriminación y el rendimiento escolar en niños, niñas y adolescentes.

Diese Veränderung lässt sich allerdings nicht schlicht wie eine fortschreitende Säkularisierung verstehen. Die Beiträge in diesem Band zeigen, dass religiöse Positionen und die gesellschaftliche Stellung der Religion ständig neu bestimmt werden: Unter Glaubenden und in Glaubensgemeinschaften, in der Zivilgesellschaft und in der Politik. So tritt Religion als Zündstoff hervor: als Inspiration für individuelles Engagement, als Orientierungspunkt für zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen und für die Politik, aber auch als Fokus für Konflikte und Ängste. Religion bleibt in diesen verschiedenen Erscheinungsformen ein ernst zu nehmender Faktor in der niederländischen Zeitgeschichte.

    Beschreibung: As an undergraduate at Brown University, Tyler Denmead founded New Urban Arts, a nationally recognized arts and humanities program primarily for young people of color in Providence, Rhode Island. Along with its positive impact, New Urban Arts, under his leadership, became entangled in Providence's urban renewal efforts that harmed the very youth it served. As in many deindustrialized cities, Providence's leaders viewed arts, culture, and creativity as a means to drive property development and attract young, educated, and affluent white people, such as Denmead, to economically and culturally kick-start the city. In The Creative Underclass, Denmead critically examines how New Urban Arts and similar organizations can become enmeshed in circumstances where young people, including himself, become visible once the city can leverage their creativity to benefit economic revitalization and gentrification. He points to the creative cultural practices that young people of color from low-income communities use to resist their subjectification as members of an underclass, which, along with redistributive economic policies, can be deployed as an effective means with which to both oppose gentrification and better serve the youth who have become emblematic of urban creativity.

Dabei ging es primär um die Befindlichkeit der Nation und der »Flüchtling« wurde zum Verursacher nationaler Bedrängnisse. Uwe Becker analysiert diese Diskurse und zeichnet nach, welche Narrative sich im »langen Sommer der Flucht« aufgebaut haben. Dabei zeigt er auf, wie sie im kollektiven Gedächtnis ruhen, jederzeit aktivierbar sind und bis heute eine restriktive Flüchtlingspolitik legitimieren.

Como en una representación teatral se reúnen todos los días en la escuela los distintos actores que, en el cumplimiento de sus roles, toman diversas actitudes que determinan las relaciones que entre ellos se establecen. Adultos, niños y adolescentes, reacomodan sus formas de actuar para establecer las normas de convivencia en la escuela. En este punto es pertinente aclarar que, cuando se habla de normas, no necesariamente se hace referencia a las aceptadas por los sistemas educativos; en la mayoría de los casos estas normas que rigen los comportamientos (especialmente entre los estudiantes), son normas recreadas a partir de las vivencias que en algunos casos se constituyen en una normalización de la agresión escolar.

    Beschreibung: Al comenzar la labor de prologar este libro me encontré en una posición familiar para mí: sin saber qué hacer. Y, ante la ignorancia y el no conocimiento del siguiente paso, pensé: ¿Qué es lo que hace un investigador? Pues curiosea, investiga, pregunta, hasta que descubre cual es el siguiente paso, que es lo que toca hacer ahora. Y en la búsqueda está el camino. En la investigación el investigador se va formando a sí mismo, impulsado por dos cosas: 1) El reconocimiento de que no sabe y 2) El querer saber. La humildad académica y la curiosidad son el combustible y motor del investigador, sin ellos la investigación no existe. En el momento en el que se tiene una actitud de “saberlo todo” el camino se ha terminado. Rosaura Rojas Monedero es una investigadora, ya que en ella están presentes ambos elementos, junto con un tercero muy particular, que si se combina con la humildad académica y la curiosidad se logran resultados extraordinarios: la pasión. Rosaura es una mujer apasionada por saber, por investigar, y sobre todo por lograr lo que se propone. Tuve la fortuna de conocer este proyecto desde su génesis, cuando una estudiante del Doctorado en Métodos Alternos de Solución de Conflictos de la Facultad de Derecho y Criminología de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, del cual soy egresada, me contactó buscando una guía adicional para la elaboración de su tesis.

    Beschreibung: El presente capítulo busca exponer algunas de las teorías sobre la “memoria colectiva” que son consideradas como parte del “canon” de las ciencias culturales (Kulturwissenschaften) alemanas. Esta línea de pensamiento se distingue de los estudios culturales o “cultural studies” anglosajones en que su enfoque está dirigido al tema de la memoria colectiva y a su conexión con las ciencias históricas43. No obstante, en el contexto anglosajón han surgido teorías culturales que analizan a profundidad la relación entre imaginarios y el poder político, lo cual complementa necesariamente a las ciencias culturales de esta vertiente alemana. En este texto, el objetivo es presentar dicha producción de conocimiento de las ciencias culturales alemanas, así como algunas miradas críticas desde los contextos anglosajón y francófono para, finalmente, elaborar una reflexión de esta producción de conocimiento desde América Latina. Es decir: ¿qué nos aportan las ciencias culturales en sus vertientes alemana, anglosajona y francófona en el sentido de elaborar cuestionamientos en torno a la memoria colectiva? ¿cuál es el aporte de un diálogo con estas epistemologías? Más allá, es importante XXpreguntarnos por las limitantes de dicho canon desde contextos del sur global si queremos reflexionar sobre estos temas desde México. ¿Qué cuestionamientos y vetas de investigación pueden proponerse y abrirse en torno a la memoria colectiva y la enseñanza de la historia en México desde una reflexión crítica de este corpus teórico?

She shows how they occupy a contradictory position, as they are racialized in Germany as temporary and migrant grunt workers, yet their middle-class aspirations reflect efforts to build a new, global, and economically dominant India. The ways they accept and resist the premises and conditions of their work offer new potentials for alternative visions of living and working in neoliberal economies. Demonstrating how these coders' cognitive labor realigns and reimagines race and class, Amrute conceptualizes personhood and migration within global capitalism in new ways.

The establishment of the Third Reich ensured that, from the German speaking world, at least, this became a one-way traffic. In this book Christian Fleck explores the invention of empirical social research, which by 1950 had become the binding norm of international scholarship, and he analyses the contribution of German refugee social scientists to its establishment. The major names are here, from Adorno and Horkheimer to Hirshman and Lazarsfeld, but at the heart of the book is a unique collective biography based on original data from more than 800 German-speaking social scientists. Published in German in 2008 to great acclaim, Fleck's important study of the transatlantic enrichment of the social sciences is now available in a revised English-language edition.

From multiple viewpoints the contributors to this volume propose ways of understanding the ongoing processes of globalization that configure peoples and places via a politics of rurality in a capitalist world economy, and through an optics of raciality that intersects with class, gender, identity, land, and environment. In tackling the dynamics of space and place, their essays address matters such as the heightened risks and multiple states of insecurity in the global economy; the new logics of expulsion and primitive accumulation dynamics shaping a new "savage sorting"; patterns of resistance and transformation in the face of globalization's political and environmental changes; the steady decline in the livelihoods of people of color globally and their deepened vulnerabilities; and the complex reconstitution of systemic and lived racialization within these processes. El autor hace crítica además de una mirada del pasado indígena generalizadora o mitológica, recomienda: “El indio se considerará, desde el principio, como un caso más en la humanidad, como un pueblo entre los similares (...)” (Villoro, 1998, p. 178).

À partir d’études de cas, l’ouvrage permet une approche globale de la question grâce à la grande diversité de terrains étudiés : Afrique - Afrique sub-saharienne, Côte d’Ivoire, Maroc ; Amérique - Mexique, Haïti ; Asie - Inde, Chine, Iran ; Europe, France. Il croise les réflexions de quatre anthropologues, six historien(ne)s, deux sociologues, un géographe et un spécialiste d’histoire littéraire. Sans figer la définition de ces processus de (ré) appropriation, il s'agit de les envisager d'un point de vue méthodologique et heuristique. Au-delà de notions déjà travaillées comme celles de « transfert culturel » ou « d’acculturation », les travaux présentés ici permettent de dépasser la seule description de la distribution ou circulation des savoirs, adoptés ou rejetés dans certaines régions, en se focalisant plutôt sur l’agentivité des acteurs dans ces processus d’intégration de savoirs ou savoir-faire considérés comme exogènes ou bien redécouverts après des longues périodes d’oubli. Les études de cas proposées pourront nourrir les réflexions théoriques, servir de base pour des études régionales, ou encore permettre des approches comparatives.

    Beschreibung: Las medidas implementadas a propósito del COVID-19 han desencadenado una doble crisis. Por un lado, está la sensación de vulnerabilidad que provoca en la mayoría de las personas un virus que ha mostrado la capacidad de arrebatar la vida sin discriminar edad, género, etnia o condición socioeconómica. Por otro lado, ha quedado al descubierto la fragilidad de las seguridades sobre las cuales han reposado las prácticas habituales que organizan nuestra vida social en sus distintos ámbitos: el mundo del trabajo, el financiero, las dinámicas económicas, las relaciones familiares e interpersonales en general. Ambos desdoblamientos han sido intersectados por un discurso intimidante acerca del colapso que podríamos experimentar como sociedad, en caso de no adaptarnos a los efectos inevitables del virus y flexibilizar las medidas restrictivas del aislamiento en función de una pronta activación de las actividades productivas que dan vida a la economía.

    Beschreibung: L’étude de la famille dans le Nord de l’Afrique, et dans les sociétés musulmanes, a connu ces quinze dernières années des développements fort intéressants en raison des transformations des codes familiaux, ainsi que du déploiement de nouvelles technologies dans le domaine de la reproduction et des questions bioéthiques qui l’accompagnent (Bras, 2007 ; Bonte, Benkheira, 2009-2010 ; Clarke, 2009 ; Fortier, 2010 ; Voorhoeve, 2012 ; Benkheira et al., 2013). Celles-ci traduisent par ailleurs des mutations sociétales importantes et profondes (augmentation de la population urbaine, de l’accès à l’éducation et du travail salarié féminin, notamment) et une relecture des normes islamiques et/ou traditionnelles/coutumières, notamment en matière d’égalité entre hommes et femmes. Toutefois, alors qu’une vaste littérature aborde le sujet des transformations de la famille en Europe et ailleurs, sous l’angle de la parentalité (parenthood) – repenser la famille à partir de l’enfant et de son bien-être –, force est de constater que les travaux dans cette perspective sont rares s’agissant des sociétés du Nord de l’Afrique, et plus largement des sociétés musulmanes. Cet ouvrage constitue donc une contribution à l’étude de la parentalité en Afrique musulmane, avec un focus particulier sur les pays de l’Afrique du Nord. L’objectif, ici, est de renouveler les questionnements, les perspectives et les analyses s’agissant des constances et des transformations des liens familiaux en contexte musulman africain. Les directeurs de la publication souhaitent remercier Sabrina Mervin, l'ancienne directrice du Centre Jacques Berque, pour le soutien apporté au programme à l'origine de cet ouvrage collectif.

    Beschreibung: Education, Recent History and Memory. Research and Methodological Approaches: Recent Latin American history has been marked by processes of political radicalization, dictatorships, authoritarianism and armed conflicts. Education, pedagogical thinking and educational policies in the region were not immune to these historical conditions. This work studies the intersections between the recent history of education, on the one hand, and memory, on the other, a field which adopted methodological perspectives with specific features. The compiled chapters attempt to answer some key questions for Argentina and Colombia: how to approach the role of pedagogical ideas in the revolutionary projects, in the configuration of schools, in the circulation and confrontation of memories about a traumatic past? What place do educational policies and the commitment of educators occupy in the approach to social and political conflict?

    Beschreibung: The pandemic crisis has made increasingly relevant and urgent to reflect on the way our cities are organised, on an intra-urban scale. The book aims to bring to the reader's attention the theme of urban neighbourhoods, approaching it from a sociological point of view. The first two chapters outline the theoretical and analytical framework of the neighbourhood approach, contextualising social capital in a differentiated urban dimension within it and recognising the specificity of places and territories in which collective life is organised. In the central chapters, declined in more applicative terms, the reflection focuses on spatialisation of public housing and social mix in the city of Bologna; on residential practices and strategies in the Scampia district (Naples), from which the dynamics of an informal real estate market of social rents emerge. The book continues with an action-research on neighbourhood effect and equity in the right to health within the urban context of Bologna. The final chapter is dedicated to the sustainable city and the importance of neighbourhoods in facing the global challenge of climate change.

    Beschreibung: This book documents how COVID-19 impacts gender, agriculture, and food systems across the globe with on-the-ground accounts and personal reflections from scholars, practitioners, and community members. During the coronavirus pandemic with many people under lockdown, continual agricultural production and access to food remain essential. Women provide much of the formal and informal work in agriculture and food production, distribution, and preparation often under precarious conditions. A cadre of scholars and practitioners from across the globe provide their timely observations on these issues as well as more personal reflections on its impact on their lives and work. Four major themes emerge from these accounts and are interwoven throughout: the pervasiveness of food insecurity, the ubiquity of women’s care work, food justice, and policies and research that can that can result in a resilience that reimagines the future for greater gender and intersectional equality. We identify what lessons we can learn from this global pandemic about research and practices related to gender, food, and agricultural systems to strive for more equitable arrangements. This book will be of great interest to students, scholars and practitioners working on gender and food and agriculture during this global pandemic and beyond.

    Beschreibung: Existe una tendencia mundial a pensar que por culpa de la pandemia del COVID-19, la educación debe pasar de lo presencial a lo virtual, de un momento a otro, como si fuera una actividad tan sencilla a la que no se le debe dar tanto tiempo en adoptarse o en asumirse como una nueva o novedosa forma de aprender. En todos los niveles, desde preescolar hasta la universidad, los educandos han tenido que cambiar intempestivamente la forma de acceder al conocimiento, y en este cambio abrupto se han visto inmiscuidos, por su injerencia directa en ese proceso, los padres de familia, las instituciones educativas, los profesores y la sociedad misma; todos han tenido que acoplarse a pesar de su disposición, tiempo, deseos, miedos, dudas, incertidumbres y otras tantas situaciones, a esta nueva forma que si bien se desarrolla en un medio virtual al que casi todos acceden frecuentemente, muy pocos la habían relacionado directamente con la, tal vez, única forma de continuar los estudios actualmente, esto ha traído cierta crisis en este entorno porque ha costado un desgaste emocional tanto de unos como de otros.

It explores how the fads, fashions and preoccupations of celebrities enter the popular lifeblood, explains what is distinctive about contemporary celebrity, and reveals the psychological, social and economic consequences of fame both upon the public and celebrities themselves. The book develops the framework for looking at celebrity culture which Rojek set out back in 2001, by showing how ascribed celebrity, achieved celebrity and celetoids overlap. The book gives a new emphasis to the role of the media and public relations in engineering fame, and the psychological consequences of celebrity - notably Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Celebrity Worship Syndrome. The book is a landmark contribution in explaining how celebrities dominate the social horizon and why we need them.

Gender Violence, the Law, and Society analyses and explores the historical and cultural roots of issues of gender-based and sexual violence in Japan, India and South Africa. Using a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary methods, this edited collection highlights the intersection of marginalized gender and sexual identities – such as raped women, gay men and women who are victims of commodified violence – and marginalized geographic areas.Taking a structured and holistic approach, the chapters authors break down issues across three levels: violence, state, and society. By exploring case studies from the three selected geographical areas, both the roots and effects and related organization and belief systems are explored in their relations to the issues of sexual and gendered violence.     Beschreibung: This volume examines the transformation of subjectivities following contemporary societal trends with regulatory and administrative authorities targeting human subjectivity with the aim to transform it. It addresses the malleability of human subjectivity through rich qualitative analyses of how different governing attempts are received by the subjects themselves. While the scholarship on governmentality has so far produced an enormously useful body of literature on the ‘how’ aspect of governing, this book suggests that it has been prone to overestimate the degree to which our subjectivities are open to change. Combining ethnographic sensitivity with more traditional governmentality perspectives allows us to explore how governing attempts ‘land’ in the terrain targeted—human subjectivity—in actual social contexts, under specific forms of governing and rationality. In doing so, the book makes a distinctive contribution to a second generation of governmentality studies. It will appeal to social scientists with interests in governance, governmentality, social policy and the sociology of work.

    Beschreibung: A finales de la década de los años ochenta del siglo pasado, la historiografía de la educación en México tuvo un cambio significativo, pues a partir de ese momento, comenzaron a surgir estudios que planteaban la posibilidad de reconstruir historias del pasado educativo que en la “historiografía tradicional” no habían sido contempladas. En este sentido, nuevos objetos de estudio han ido cobrando relevancia en las investigaciones en torno a la historia de la educación; las mujeres, los niños, el magisterio, los libros escolares o la cultura escolar forman parte hoy en día de esos objetos en los que los investigadores de la educación se han interesado. Esta inquietud por conocer cómo era la educación de ayer, ha trazado horizontes de investigación en donde la interdisciplinariedad ha tenido un lugar preponderante. El diálogo que la Historia ha podido sostener con otras ciencias como la Antropología, la Sociología o la Pedagogía (por mencionar algunos ejemplos) ha enriquecido los trabajos en Historia de la Educación en los últimos años. La diversidad de sujetos históricos que se han ido estudiando ha mostrado las peculiaridades que la educación ha tenido en nuestro país; cada una de las particularidades que los investigadores han encontrado deben considerarse como las piezas de un rompecabezas.

One is external, reflected in a global university crisis that imposes the marketization of higher education on the ancient practice of scholarship. The other, internal threat is social science's withdrawal from publicly–engaged teaching and research into the protective bunker of disciplinarity. In articulating a vision for the public role of social science in the twenty-first century, John Brewer argues that these threats also constitute an opportunity for a new public social science to emerge, confident in its public value and fully engaged with the future of humanity in its teaching, research and civic responsibilities, while also remaining committed to science. Interventions based on objects, Brice Laurent claims, have become a dominant path for European policy-making. In European Objects, Laurent analyzes the political consequences of these interventions and their democratization. He uses the term “European objects” to describe technical entities that are regulated—and thereby transformed—by European policies. To uncover the bureaucratic and regulatory intricacies of European governance, Laurent focuses on a series of these objects, including food products, chemicals, financial products, consumer goods, drinking water, and occupational environments. Laurent argues that taking European objects seriously offers a way to rephrase the dreams of harmonization and, eventually, rethink the constitutional strength of European integration. Laurent doesn't just clarify how European regulation works, but also explores ways to realize long-term objectives for European integration, such as a harmonized market or an objective expertise. Regulation is best understood as “regulatory machinery” bringing together various types of legal constraints, material interventions on objects, and the imagining of desirable futures. Analyzing European objects enables Laurent to explore what regulation has become after years of evolution have made it a central component of the European policy world.     Beschreibung: El presente capítulo aborda la política pública como una respuesta organizada del Estado con relación a necesidades sentidas por la población, basada en un sentido ético de la acción política, entendida como la actividad mancomunada de los que sienten tales necesidades. Entendemos que la política pública es colocada como un horizonte límite en el análisis, lo que no permite profundizar en la calidad de la justicia y los bienes jurídicos a defender. Por tanto, este capítulo reclama un análisis y reflexión, por parte de las profesiones asistenciales, que vaya más allá de los límites de una política o programa concreto accediendo a las necesidades sentidas por los afectados y sus formas de organización socio-política, de tal manera la justicia aparecería como un nuevo horizonte reflexivo que hasta ahora no se presenta con claridad. Para estas reflexiones nos servimos de la investigación Visibilizando la Paternidad Adolescente en Contextos de Pobreza, financiada por la Comisión Sectorial de Investigaciones Científicas de la Universidad de la República, especialmente de las entrevistas realizadas a técnicos que trabajan en torno al embarazo a edades tempranas.

    Beschreibung: La crisis planetaria derivada de la de salud pública desatada por la pandemia del COVID-19 ha replanteado las reglas de juego de la geopolítica, la economía y la convivencia social en tiempos de globalización. Esta pandemia tuvo como primer impacto el colapso del sistema sanitario, y como segundo, el ingreso a una cuarentena a nivel global que paralizó la sociedad y la economía, y nos empujó a un confinamiento preventivo. Esto a su vez implicó el empuje hacia la virtualización de las actividades, tales como la educación remota y el teletrabajo, o mejor aún, el trabajo en casa, de manera intempestiva, involuntaria e improvisada; acelerando así el ingreso en la cuarta revolución industrial, pues el trabajo y estudio apoyado en la tecnología virtual basada en internet, que iba a tomar dos décadas en instalarse como modelo dominante, tomó ahora solo tres meses. Esta virtualización improvisada e impuesta es la vez antídoto y veneno, pues permite seguir con las actividades laborales, académicas y sociales, pero a la vez trae riesgos para la salud mental de los seres humanos y la expansión de un estado de malestar general: que se suma al, de por sí, malestar del confinamiento.

Anhand einer praxeologischen Forschung in zwei Wiener Bezirken analysieren die Autor*innen die Schauplätze des Tauschens und Teilens, des Reparierens, des Upcyclings und des Kreativ-Seins, in denen sich Menschen im öffentlichen Raum für den Erhalt von Dingen engagieren. Mit dem Begriff des Schauplatzes rücken sie die öffentlichkeitswirksamen Praktiken eines nachhaltigen Umgangs mit den Dingen in den Vordergrund und verbinden diese mit aktuellen Diskussionen über notwendige Entwicklungen urbaner Infrastrukturen der Sorge und der Suffizienz.
