p-Nitro-benzoldiazoniumchlorid bildet mit 2-Carbäthoxy-tetrahydro-thiopyranon-(3) (III) eine Azoverbindung (V), die leicht Japp-Klingemann-Spaltung zur Carbonsäure VI erleidet. - Die aus p-Nitro-benzoldiazoniumchlorid und 2- bzw. 4-Carbäthoxy-thiophanon-(3) (XX bzw. XVI) erhältlichen, bisher als “Azofarbstoffe + H2O” aufgefaßten Produkte werden als Carbonsäuren (XXIII a bzw. XIX a) bewiesen, die durch Japp-Klingemann-Spaltung der hier erstmals hergestellten Azoverbindungen XXII bzw. XVIII entstanden sind. - Die Japp-Klingemann-Spaltung der Azoverbindungen V, XVIII und XXII läßt sich, statt mit Wasser, auch mit anderen nucleophilen Agenzien (Methanol, Ammoniak, Anilin, Phenylhydrazin) ausführen, wobei Ester, Amide, Anilide bzw. Phenylhydrazide der Carbonsäuren VI, XXIIIa bzw. XIXa erhalten werden. - Es wird ein Reaktionsmechanismus für die Japp-Klingemann-Spaltung vorgeschlagen.
