Notes:
The husbandry of grassland is still very much in its infancy in these islands and many problems face the farmer the answers to which are obscure or only partially known. It is true that in recent years grassland research has made good progress but much research remains to be done and new lines of investigation are constantly opening up. Only by free discussion and by pooling of experiences can research workers be made aware of the problems facing the farmer or of the progress made in different parts of the country Farmers too should know that their difficulties are appreciated and that steps are being taken to solve them.To this end it is hoped in this contribution from grassland workers in various parts of the country to give brief notes on questions of current concern. On this occasion, this section is based largely on original information provided by T. W. Evans (Leeds), and C. K. Thompson (Newcastle) and covers the counties of Cumberland, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland, Westmorland and Yorkshire, and on miscellaneous notes collected from other sources. It is hoped that this section will be a regular feature of the Journal and brief contributions are invited.—Editor.
