    Description: Morphogenesis and mechanoelectrical transduction of the hair cell mechanoreceptor depend on the correct assembly of Usher syndrome (USH) proteins into highly organized macromolecular complexes. Defects in these proteins lead to deafness and vestibular areflexia in USH patients. Mutations in a non-USH protein, glutaredoxin domain-containing cysteine-rich 1 (GRXCR1), cause non-syndromic sensorineural deafness. To understand the deglutathionylating enzyme function of GRXCR1 in deafness, we generated two grxcr1 zebrafish mutant alleles. We found that hair bundles are thinner in homozygous grxcr1 mutants, similar to the USH1 mutants ush1c (Harmonin) and ush1ga (Sans). In vitro assays showed that glutathionylation promotes the interaction between Ush1c and Ush1ga and that Grxcr1 regulates mechanoreceptor development by preventing physical interaction between these proteins without affecting the assembly of another USH1 protein complex, the Ush1c- Cadherin23-Myosin7aa tripartite complex. By elucidating the molecular mechanism through which Grxcr1 functions, we also identify a mechanism that dynamically regulates the formation of Usher protein complexes.

    Description: The paper presents a long-term analysis of the seasonal dynamics of the formation of the oxygen regime in the North-Eastern part of the Black Sea for the period of 1996–2017. The studies were conducted in the deep and coastal areas in vertical sections. It is shown that in the early spring period the oxygen saturation of the deep and coastal waters of the Black Sea was relatively low. At deep-water stations, the absence of thermocline can lead to the formation of oxycline in the center of the cyclone vortex at depths up to 60 m. In spring, in the coastal and deep water areas, the photosynthesis layer is always above the thermocline at depths of up to 20 m with higher oxygen saturation in the coastal zone of the sea. In summer, phytoplankton biomass reaches its maximum in the deep and coastal waters of the Black Sea, the depth of the thermocline increases, the power of the photosynthetic layer is located above the thermocline and can reach 50 m. In the early-autumn period of the year, the lowering of deep waters was noted at the coastal and deep-water stations, the depth of thermocline reaches its maximum, and the intensity of photosynthesis, the most pronounced in the surface horizon, decreases. In the coastal part of the North-Eastern Black Sea, the influence of water circulation is observed on the horizons of more than 40 m with the release of deep oxygen-poor waters in the dynamic area of Anapa–Novorossiysk–Gelendzhik.
    Description: В работе проведен многолетний анализ сезонной динамики формирования кислородного режима в северо-восточной части Черного моря за период 1996–2017 гг. Исследования были проведены на глубоководной и прибрежной акваториях по вертикальным разрезам. Показано, что в ранне-весенний период отмечено относительно невысокое насыщение воды кислородом на глубоководной и прибрежной акваториях Черного моря. На глубоководных станциях отсутствие термоклина может приводить к формированию оксиклина в центре циклонического вихря на глубинах до 60 м. В весенний период в прибрежной и глубоководной акваториях слой фотосинтеза располагается всегда над термоклином на глубинах до 20 м с более высоким насыщением воды кислородом в прибрежной зоне моря. В летний период года на глубоководной и прибрежной акваториях Черного моря биомассы фитопланктона достигают максимума, глубина залегания термоклина увеличивается, мощность фотосинтетического слоя располагается над термоклином и может достигать 50 м. В ранне-осенний период года на прибрежных и глубоководных станциях отмечено опускание глубинных вод, максимальное заглубление термоклина и снижение интенсивности фотосинтеза, наиболее выраженное в поверхностном горизонте. В прибрежной части северо-восточной акватории Черного моря влияние циркуляции вод прослеживается на горизонтах более 40 м с выходом глубинных обедненных кислородом вод в динамичном районе Анапа–Новороссийск–Геленджик.

    Description: The widespread cessation of fish-reclamation works in the last 15 to 20 years on natural water bodies caused the ichthyofauna of most lakes in the Altai Region to be represented by low-value and slow-growing fish. Fish productivity is largely determined by the degree of exploitation of the reservoir and the form of organization of the fishery. To ensure high and sustainable fish productivity of water bodies, fishery reclamation is carried out. The purpose of this work is to characterize the composition of the biota of the Middle Kulunda Lakes of the Altai Region. Studies were conducted in the summer of 2018 on the lakes Chernakovo, Krivoye, Grachevo, Altai Region. According to the degree of development of the fodder base of the lakes Chernakovo and Krivoye can be attributed to the reservoirs with medium feed for zooplankton and higher-than-average on benthos. Lake Grachevo, according to the degree of development of the fodder base, in terms of feed is below-average. In commercial catches the dominant position is occupied by perch and silver crucian carp. Their cumulative share, both in number and in terms of biomass, is 75.0–100.0 %, the recommended catch in the lakes of the Altai Region is 410 t.
    Description: Повсеместное прекращение рыбоводно-мелиоративных работ в последние 15–20 лет на естественных водоемах явилось причиной того, что ихтиофауна большинства озер Алтайского края представлена малоценной и тугорослой рыбой. Рыбопродуктивность во многом определяется степенью эксплуатации водоема и формой организации рыбного хозяйства. Для обеспечения высокой и устойчивой рыбопродуктивности водоемов осуществляют рыбохозяйственную мелиорацию. Цель данной работы охарактеризовать состав биоты Средне-Кулундинских озер Алтайского края. Исследования проводились в летний период 2018 г. на озерах Чернаково, Кривое, Грачево Алтайского края. По степени развития кормовой базы оз. Чернаково и Кривое можно отнести к водоемам со средней кормностью по зоопланктону и вышесредней по бентосу. Озеро Грачево, по степени развития кормовой базы относится к нижесреднекормным. В промысловых уловах доминирующее положение занимает окунь и серебряный карась. Их совокупная доля, как по численности, так и по биомассе составляет 75,0–100,0 %, рекомендованный объем вылова рыбы в озерах Алтайского края составляет 410 т.

    Description: Results of hydrobiological studies of the Bugazsky Spit coastal waters (the Black Sea, Bugazsky estuary and Bugazsky Liman) are presented. 43 species of phytoplankton, 12 species of zooplankton and 9 species of macrozoobenthos were recorded. In the studied area, the phytoplankton abundance ranged from 6.3 to 11.2 million cells/m3, its biomass was from 18.0 to 79.3 mg/m3, the respective values for zooplankton ranged from 108,080 to 129,760 ind./m3 and from 39.0 to 323.8 mg/m3, while those of macrozoobenthos were from 133 to 1067 ind./m2 and from 0.1 to 948.9 g/m2. All zooplankton should be considered as fodder organisms. The biomass of fodder fraction of the zoobenthos amounted to 0.1–25.4 g/m2.
    Description: Представлены результаты гидробиологических исследований прибрежных акваторий Бугазской косы (Черное море, Бугазcкое гирло и Бугазский лиман). Зарегистрировано 43 вида фитопланктона, 12 видов зоопланктона и 9 видов макрозообентоса. Численность фитопланктона изменялась от 6,3 до 11,2 млн кл./м3, биомасса — от 18,0 до 79,3 мг/м3, зоопланктона — от 108080 до 129760 экз./м3 и от 39,0 до 323,8 мг/м3, макрозообентоса — от 133 до 1067 экз./м2 и от 0,1 до 948,9 г/м2.     Description: The composition of phytoplankton of seven stations in the port area of Novorossiysk during threemonth (August, September, November) vegetation period was characterized by the prevalence of diatoms (Diatomeae) microalgae both in the abundance and biomass. The peak of the total abundance (79.9 thousand cells/l in the port area and 245 thousand cells/l in the middle part of the bay) and biomass (the average value 91.4 mg/m3 in the port area and 219 mg/m3 outside the port area) was recorded in September. Background monitoring station was characterized by a more uniform composition of the phytoplankton groups. The number of species in the port area varied in the range from 3 to 5, outside the port area — from 2 to 3. However, they comprised the species, characteristic of clean waters. The highest values of the water pollution index, which characterize the water stations as polluted and very polluted, were recorded in September. In November, the waters of five stations were estimated as clean (WPI less than 0.75), the rest — as moderately polluted (WPI within the range of 0.84–0.88).
    Description: Состав фитопланктона семи станций акватории порта г. Новороссийск за вегетационный период трех месяцев (август, сентябрь, ноябрь) характеризовался доминированием как по численности, так и по биомассе диатомовых (Diatomeae) микроводорослей. Пик общей численности (79,9 тыс. кл./л в порту и 245 тыс. кл./л в средней части бухты) и биомассы (среднее значение в порту 91,4 мг/м3 и 219 мг/м3 — вне порта) был отмечен в сентябре месяце. Фоновая станция отличалась более однообразным составом отделов фитопланктона. Число видов в порту изменялось от 3 до 5, за пределами — от 2 до 3. Однако формировали его представители, характерные для чистых вод. Наиболее высокие значения индекса загрязнения вод, характеризующие воды станций как загрязненные и грязные, были отмечены в сентябре. В ноябре воды пяти станций оценивались как чистые (ИЗВ менее 0,75), остальные — умеренно загрязненные (ИЗВ в пределах 0,84–0,88).

    Description: In August–September 2017, the state of the plankton community was monitored in the western part of the Bering Sea and the adjacent waters of the Pacific Ocean in connection with the resumption of mass feeding migrations of salmonidae. The basis of zooplankton biomass in the period of research was a fraction of large individuals, 65–84 %; the fraction of small individuals amounted to 5–15 %, and of average-sized ones — to 11–20 %. The dominant groups in the large-sized fraction of zooplankton were copepods (Neocalanus plumchrus, Eucalanus bungii), chaetognatha (Sagitta elegans) and Coelenterata (Aglantha digitale). The total stock of plankton in the 50–0 m layer was 23.84 thousand tons, in the 200–0 m layer — 46.3 thousand tons. The high biomass of zooplankton in the investigated area indicates favorable conditions for feeding salmonidae.
    Description: В августе–сентябре 2017 г. в водах западной части Берингова моря и прилегающей части Тихого океана был проведен мониторинг состояния планктонного сообщества в период нагула и миграций тихоокеанских лососей. Основу биомассы зоопланктона формировала крупная фракция — 65–84 %; мелкая и средняя фракции составляли, соответственно, 5–15 и 11–20 %. Доминирующими видами были копеподы: Neocalanus plumchrus и Eucalanus bungii, щетинкочелюстные Sagitta elegans, кишечнополостные Aglantha digitale.     Description: In 2018, the abundance and biomass of Artemia cysts were monitored in 35 hypersaline water bodies of Russia (in Crimea and Western Siberia), and the results are presented. The fraction of benthic cysts in total stocks is shown to be considerable, and conclusion is made that these cysts will define the formation of abundance of the first generation in the following harvesting season.

    Description: Interfacial solar steam generation is emerging as a promising technique for efficient desalination. Although increasing efforts have been made, challenges exist for achieving a balance among a plethora of performance indicators—for example, rapid evaporation, durability, low-cost deployment, and salt rejection. Here, we demonstrate that carbonized manure can convert 98% of sunlight into heat, and the strong capillarity of porous carbon fibers networks pumps sufficient water to evaporation interfaces. Salt diffusion within microchannels enables quick salt drainage to the bulk seawater to prevent salt accumulation. With these advantages, this biomass-derived evaporator is demonstrated to feature a high evaporation rate of 2.81 kg m−2 h−1 under 1 sun with broad robustness to acidity and alkalinity. These advantages, together with facial deployment, offer an approach for converting farm waste to energy with high efficiency and easy implementation, which is particularly well suited for developing regions.
