    Description: This work presents the application of the reduced differential transform method (RDTM) to find solutions of partial differential-algebraic equations (PDAEs). Two systems of index-two and index-three are solved to show that RDTM can provide analytical solutions for PDAEs in convergent series form. In addition, we present the posttreatment of the power series solutions with the Laplace-Padé resummation method as a useful technique to find exact solutions. The main advantage of the proposed technique is that it is based on a few straightforward steps and does not generate secular terms or depend on a perturbation parameter.

    Description: We proposed a robust mean change-point estimation algorithm in linear regression with the assumption that the errors follow the Laplace distribution. By representing the Laplace distribution as an appropriate scale mixture of normal distribution, we developed the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm to estimate the position of mean change-point. We investigated the performance of the algorithm through different simulations, finding that our methods is robust to the distributions of errors and is effective to estimate the position of mean change-point. Finally, we applied our method to the classical Holbert data and detected a change-point.

    Description: Locality preserving projection (LPP) retains only partial information, and category information of samples is not considered, which causes misclassification of feature extraction. An improved locality preserving projection algorithm is proposed to optimize the extraction of growth characteristics. Firstly, preliminary dimensionality reduction of sample data is constructed by using two-dimensional principal component analysis (2DPCA) to retain the spatial information. Then, two optimized subgraphs are defined to describe the neighborhood relation between different categories of data. Finally, feature parameters set are obtained to extract local information of samples by improved LPP algorithm. The experiments show that the improved LPP algorithm has good adaptability, and the highest SVM classification accuracy rate of this method can reach more than 96%. Compared with other methods, the improved LPP has superior optimized performance in terms of multidimensional data analysis and optimization.

    Description: The problem of tracking error constrained adaptive fuzzy output feedback control is investigated for a class of single-input and single-output (SISO) stochastic nonlinear systems with actuator faults, unknown time-delay, and unmeasured states. The considered faults are modeled as both loss of effectiveness and lock-in-place. The fuzzy logic systems are used to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions, and a fuzzy adaptive observer is designed for estimating the unmeasured states. By transforming the tracking errors into new virtual error variables and based on backstepping recursive design technique, a new fuzzy adaptive output feedback control method is developed. It is shown that all the signals of the resulting closed-loop system are bounded in probability and the tracking error remains an adjustable neighborhood of the origin within the prescribed bounds. The simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

    Description: The dynamical behaviors of the Lorenz-84 atmospheric circulation model are investigated based on qualitative theory and numerical simulations. The stability and local bifurcation conditions of the Lorenz-84 atmospheric circulation model are obtained. It is also shown that when the bifurcation parameter exceeds a critical value, the Hopf bifurcation occurs in this model. Then, the conditions of the supercritical and subcritical bifurcation are derived through the normal form theory. Finally, the chaotic behavior of the model is also discussed, the bifurcation diagrams and Lyapunov exponents spectrum for the corresponding parameter are obtained, and the parameter interval ranges of limit cycle and chaotic attractor are calculated in further. Especially, a computer-assisted proof of the chaoticity of the model is presented by a topological horseshoe theory.

    Description: An important question arousing in the framework of electroencephalography (EEG) is the possibility to recognize, by means of a recorded surface potential, the number of activated areas in the brain. In the present paper, employing a homogeneous spherical conductor serving as an approximation of the brain, we provide a criterion which determines whether the measured surface potential is evoked by a single or multiple localized neuronal excitations. We show that the uniqueness of the inverse problem for a single dipole is closely connected with attaining certain relations connecting the measured data. Further, we present the necessary and sufficient conditions which decide whether the collected data originates from a single dipole or from numerous dipoles. In the case where the EEG data arouses from multiple parallel dipoles, an isolation of the source is, in general, not possible.

    Description: This paper studies the effect of jump-diffusion random environmental perturbations on the asymptotic behaviour and extinction of Lotka-Volterra population dynamics with delays. The contributions of this paper lie in the following: (a) to consider delay stochastic differential equation with jumps, we introduce a proper initial data space, in which the initial data may be discontinuous function with downward jumps; (b) we show that the delay stochastic differential equation with jumps associated with our model has a unique global positive solution and give sufficient conditions that ensure stochastically ultimate boundedness, moment average boundedness in time, and asymptotic polynomial growth of our model; (c) the sufficient conditions for the extinction of the system are obtained, which generalized the former results and showed that the sufficiently large random jump magnitudes and intensity (average rate of jump events arrival) may lead to extinction of the population.

    Description: In order to well maintain the diversity of obtained solutions, a new multiobjective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition of the objective space for multiobjective optimization problems (MOPs) is designed. In order to achieve the goal, the objective space of a MOP is decomposed into a set of subobjective spaces by a set of direction vectors. In the evolutionary process, each subobjective space has a solution, even if it is not a Pareto optimal solution. In such a way, the diversity of obtained solutions can be maintained, which is critical for solving some MOPs. In addition, if a solution is dominated by other solutions, the solution can generate more new solutions than those solutions, which makes the solution of each subobjective space converge to the optimal solutions as far as possible. Experimental studies have been conducted to compare this proposed algorithm with classic MOEA/D and NSGAII. Simulation results on six multiobjective benchmark functions show that the proposed algorithm is able to obtain better diversity and more evenly distributed Pareto front than the other two algorithms.

    Description: A method of solving optimal manoeuvre control of linear underactuated mechanical systems is presented. The nonintegrable constraints present in such systems are handled by adding dummy actuators and then by applying Lagrange multipliers to reduce their action to zero. The open- and closed-loop control schemes can be analyzed. The method, referred to as the constrained modal space optimal control (CMSOC), is illustrated in the examples of gantry crane operations.

    Description: Wave propagation problems can be solved using a variety of methods. However, in many cases, the joint use of different numerical procedures to model different parts of the problem may be advisable and strategies to perform the coupling between them must be developed. Many works have been published on this subject, addressing the case of electromagnetic, acoustic, or elastic waves and making use of different strategies to perform this coupling. Both direct and iterative approaches can be used, and they may exhibit specific advantages and disadvantages. This work focuses on the use of iterative coupling schemes for the analysis of wave propagation problems, presenting an overview of the application of iterative procedures to perform the coupling between different methods. Both frequency- and time-domain analyses are addressed, and problems involving acoustic, mechanical, and electromagnetic wave propagation problems are illustrated.

    Description: We propose a BDDC preconditioner for the rotated finite element method for second order elliptic equations with piecewise but discontinuous coefficients. In the framework of the standard additive Schwarz methods, we describe this method by a complete variational form. We show that our method has a quasioptimal convergence behavior; that is, the condition number of the preconditioned problem is independent of the jumps of the coefficients and depends only logarithmically on the ratio between the subdomain size and the mesh size. Numerical experiments are presented to confirm our theoretical analysis.

    Description: We first define an accuracy function of hesitant fuzzy elements (HFEs) and develop a new method to compare two HFEs. Then, based on Einstein operators, we give some new operational laws on HFEs and some desirable properties of these operations. We also develop several new hesitant fuzzy aggregation operators, including the hesitant fuzzy Einstein weighted geometric (HFEWGε) operator and the hesitant fuzzy Einstein ordered weighted geometric (HFEWGε) operator, which are the extensions of the weighted geometric operator and the ordered weighted geometric (OWG) operator with hesitant fuzzy information, respectively. Furthermore, we establish the connections between the proposed and the existing hesitant fuzzy aggregation operators and discuss various properties of the proposed operators. Finally, we apply the HFEWGε operator to solve the hesitant fuzzy decision making problems.

    Description: Solutions are constructed for the Kalman-Yakubovich-transpose equation . The solutions are stated as a polynomial of parameters of the matrix equation. One of the polynomial solutions is expressed by the symmetric operator matrix, controllability matrix, and observability matrix. Moreover, the explicit solution is proposed when the Kalman-Yakubovich-transpose matrix equation has a unique solution. The provided approach does not require the coefficient matrices to be in canonical form. In addition, the numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the derived method. Some applications in control theory are discussed at the end of this paper.

    Description: The evolution simulation of dust particles provides an important way to analyze the impact of dust on the environment. KMC-based parallel algorithm is proposed to simulate the evolution of dust particles. In the parallel evolution simulation algorithm of dust particles, data distribution way and communication optimizing strategy are raised to balance the load of every process and reduce the communication expense among processes. The experimental results show that the simulation of diffusion, sediment, and resuspension of dust particles in virtual campus is realized and the simulation time is shortened by parallel algorithm, which makes up for the shortage of serial computing and makes the simulation of large-scale virtual environment possible.

    Description: This paper investigates simultaneous learning about both nature and others’ actions in repeated games and identifies a set of sufficient conditions for which Harsanyi’s doctrine holds. Players have a utility function over infinite histories that are continuous for the sup-norm topology. Nature’s drawing after any history may depend on any past actions. Provided that (1) every player maximizes her expected payoff against her own beliefs, (2) every player updates her beliefs in a Bayesian manner, (3) prior beliefs about both nature and other players’ strategies have a grain of truth, and (4) beliefs about nature are independent of actions chosen during the game, we construct a Nash equilibrium, that is, realization-equivalent to the actual plays, where Harsanyi’s doctrine holds. Those assumptions are shown to be tight.

    Description: This paper investigates the finite-time stability problem of switching genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with interval time-varying delays and unbounded continuous distributed delays. Based on the piecewise Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and the average dwell time method, some new finite-time stability criteria are obtained in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are easy to be confirmed by the Matlab toolbox. The finite-time stability is taken into account in switching genetic regulatory networks for the first time and the average dwell time of the switching signal is obtained. Two numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our results.

    Description: In the paper industry, numerous studies have explored means of optimizing order allocation and cutting trim loss. However, enterprises may not adopt the resulting solutions because some widths of the inventory exceed or are less than those required for acceptable scheduling. To ensure that the results better suit the actual requirements, we present a new decision model based on the adjustment of scheduling and limitation of inventory quantity to differentiate trim loss and inventory distribution data. Differential analysis is used to reduce data filtering and the information is valuable for decision making. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the applicability of the proposed method. The results show that our proposed method outperforms the manual method regarding scheduling quantity and trim loss.

    Description: A two-city SIR epidemic model with transport-related infections is proposed. Some good analytical results are given for this model. If the basic reproduction number , there exists a disease-free equilibrium which is globally asymptotically stable. There exists an endemic equilibrium which is locally asymptotically stable if the basic reproduction number . We also show the permanence of this SIR model. In addition, sufficient conditions are established for global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium.

    Description: This paper develops a probabilistic decomposition method for an /G/1 repairable queueing system with multiple vacations, in which the customers who arrive during server vacations enter the system with probability p. Such a novel method is used to analyze the main performance indices of the server, such as the unavailability and the mean failure number during . It is derived that the structures of server indices are two convolution equations. Further, comparisons with existing methods indicate that our method is effective and applicable for studying server performances in single-server /G/1 vacation queues and their complex variants. Finally, a stochastic order and production system with a multipurpose production facility is numerically presented for illustrative purpose.

    Description: The main goal is to reveal the 1-concavity property for a subclass of cost games called data cost games. The motivation for the study of the 1-concavity property is the appealing theoretical results for both the core and the nucleolus, in particular their geometrical characterization as well as their additivity property. The characteristic cost function of the original data cost game assigns to every coalition the additive cost of reproducing the data the coalition does not own. The underlying data and cost sharing situation is composed of three components, namely, the player set, the collection of data sets for individuals, and the additive cost function on the whole data set. The proof of 1-concavity is direct, but robust to a suitable generalization of the characteristic cost function. As an adjunct, the 1-concavity property is shown for the subclass of so-called “bicycle” cost games, inclusive of the data cost games in which the individual data sets are nested in a decreasing order.

    Description: To solve an unconstrained nonlinear minimization problem, we propose an optimal algorithm (OA) as well as a globally optimal algorithm (GOA), by deflecting the gradient direction to the best descent direction at each iteration step, and with an optimal parameter being derived explicitly. An invariant manifold defined for the model problem in terms of a locally quadratic function is used to derive a purely iterative algorithm and the convergence is proven. Then, the rank-two updating techniques of BFGS are employed, which result in several novel algorithms as being faster than the steepest descent method (SDM) and the variable metric method (DFP). Six numerical examples are examined and compared with exact solutions, revealing that the new algorithms of OA, GOA, and the updated ones have superior computational efficiency and accuracy.

    Description: Global synchronization analysis for complex networks with coupling delay is investigated. Firstly the constant time delay is analyzed and then the case for time-varying delay is considered. Sufficient conditions for network synchronization are given based on Lyapunov functional, linear matrix inequality, and Kronecker product technique. The unknown variables in the sufficient conditions are fewer than those in the recent reference. Moreover, for the time-varying delay case, we find that the conditions are dependent on the bounds of both time delay and its derivative, and the derivative of the time-varying delay can be any value in the bounds. Finally, numerical examples are given to validate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

    Description: The dynamical behavior of different Steffensen-type methods is analyzed. We check the chaotic behaviors alongside the convergence radii (understood as the wideness of the basin of attraction) needed by Steffensen-type methods, that is, derivative-free iteration functions, to converge to a root and compare the results using different numerical tests. We will conclude that the convergence radii (and the stability) of Steffensen-type methods are improved by increasing the convergence order. The computer programming package MATHEMATICA provides a powerful but easy environment for all aspects of numerics. This paper puts on show one of the application of this computer algebra system in finding fixed points of iteration functions.

    Description: The aim of this paper is to address how the secondary market affects the strategy of the manufacturer’s new product introduction by using the optimization method. To do so, we develop a two-period model in which a monopolistic manufacturer sells its new durable products directly to end consumers in both periods, while an entrant operates a reverse channel selling used products in the secondary market. We assume that the manufacturer launches a higher quality product in the second period for the technological innovation. We find that the secondary market can actually increase the manufacturer’s profitability and drives the new product introduction in the second period. We also derive the effect of the durability and the degree of quality improvement on the pricing of supply chain partners.

    Description: The main objective of this paper is to propose an optimal finite duration treatment method for cancer. A mathematical model is proposed to show the interactions between healthy and cancerous cells in the human body. To extend the existing models, the effect of vaccine therapy and chemotherapy are also added to the model. The equilibrium points and the related local stability are derived and discussed. It is shown that the dynamics of the cancer model must be changed and modified for finite treatment duration. Therefore, the vaccine therapy is used to change the parameters of the system and the chemotherapy is applied for pushing the system to the domain of attraction of the healthy state. For optimal chemotherapy, an optimal control is used based on state dependent Riccati equation (SDRE). It is shown that, in spite of eliminating the treatment, the system approaches the healthy state conditions. The results show that the development of optimal vaccine-chemotherapy protocols for removing tumor cells would be an appropriate strategy in cancer treatment. Also, the present study states that a proper treatment method not only reduces the population of the cancer cells but also changes the dynamics of the cancer.

    Description: We define the notions of Bosbach states and inf-Bosbach states on a bounded hyper BCK-algebra and derive some basic properties of them. We construct a quotient hyper BCK-algebra via a regular congruence relation. We also define a regular congruence relation and a inf-Bosbach state on . By inducing an inf-Bosbach state on the quotient structure /, we show that / is a bounded commutative BCK-algebra which is categorically equivalent to an MV-algebra. In addition, we introduce the notions of hyper measures (states/measure morphisms/state morphisms) on hyper BCK-algebras, and present a relation between hyper state-morphisms and Bosbach states. Then we construct a quotient hyper BCK-algebra / by a reflexive hyper BCK-ideal . Further, we prove that / is a bounded commutative BCK-algebra.

    Description: A novel active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) controller is proposed based on support vector regression (SVR). The SVR-ADRC is designed to force an underactuated autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to follow a path in the horizontal plane with the ocean current disturbance. It is derived using SVR algorithm to adjust the coefficients of the nonlinear state error feedback (ELSEF) part in ADRC to deal with nonlinear variations at different operating points. The trend of change about ELSEF coefficients in the simulation proves that the designed SVR algorithm maintains the characteristics of astringency and stability. Furthermore, the path following errors under current in simulation has proved the high accuracy, strong robustness, and stability of the proposed SVR-ADRC. The contributions of the proposed controller are to improve the characteristics of ADRC considering the changing parameters in operating environment which make the controller more adaptive for the situation.

    Description: Performing reliability analysis of electric vehicle motor has an important impact on its safety. To do so, this paper proposes its reliability modeling and evaluation issues of electric vehicle motor by using fault tree (FT) and extended stochastic Petri nets (ESPN). Based on the concepts of FT and ESPN, an FT based ESPN model for reliability analysis is obtained. In addition, the reliability calculation method is introduced and this work designs a hybrid intelligent algorithm integrating stochastic simulation and NN, namely, NN based simulation algorithm, to solve it. Finally, taking an electric vehicle motor as an example, its reliability modeling and evaluation issues are analyzed. The results illustrate the proposed models and the effectiveness of proposed algorithms. Moreover, the results reported in this work could be useful for the designers of electric vehicle motor, particularly, in the process of redesigning the electric vehicle motor and scheduling its reliability growth plan.

    Description: A parallel multipopulation genetic algorithm (PMPGA) is proposed to optimize the train control strategy, which reduces the energy consumption at a specified running time. The paper considered not only energy consumption, but also running time, security, and riding comfort. Also an actual railway line (Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway) parameter including the slop, tunnel, and curve was applied for simulation. Train traction property and braking property was explored detailed to ensure the accuracy of running. The PMPGA was also compared with the standard genetic algorithm (SGA); the influence of the fitness function representation on the search results was also explored. By running a series of simulations, energy savings were found, both qualitatively and quantitatively, which were affected by applying cursing and coasting running status. The paper compared the PMPGA with the multiobjective fuzzy optimization algorithm and differential evolution based algorithm and showed that PMPGA has achieved better result. The method can be widely applied to related high-speed train.

    Description: To deal with the problem of resource integration and optimal scheduling in cloud manufacturing, based on the analyzation of the existing literatures, multitask oriented virtual resource integration and optimal scheduling problem is presented from the perspective of global optimization based on the consideration of sharing and correlation among virtual resources. The correlation models of virtual resources in a task and among tasks are established. According to the correlation model and characteristics of resource sharing, the formulation in which resource time-sharing scheduling strategy is employed is put forward, and then the formulation is simplified to solve the problem easily. The genetic algorithm based on the real number matrix encoding is proposed. And crossover and mutation operation rules are designed for the real number matrix. Meanwhile, the evaluation function with the punishment mechanism and the selection strategy with pressure factor are adopted so as to approach the optimal solution more quickly. The experimental results show that the proposed model and method are feasible and effective both in situation of enough resources and limited resources in case of a large number of tasks.

    Description: Substation locating and sizing is an important component of urban power networks. In this paper, an improved method based on the weighted Voronoi diagram and transportation model for substation planning is proposed, which can optimize the location, capacity, and power supply range for each substation with the minimum investment which contains the cost of the lines, substations, and annual operation expense. The weighted Voronoi diagram (WVD) whose weights can be adaptively adjusted can calculate the location and the capacity for each substation with good performance of global convergence and better convergence speed. Transportation model can simulate the best correspondence relationship between the loads and substations. The impact of geographical factors is also considered in this paper. Large amount of experiments show that the improved method can get more reasonable and more optimized planning result within shorter time than the original WVD and other algorithms.

    Description: The effects of wavy geometry on natural convection in an enclosure with two wavy vertical walls and filled with fluid saturated porous media are investigated numerically by using finite element method. The wavy enclosure is transformed to a unit square in the computational domain and the finite element formulations are solved in terms of -coordinate based on iterative method. In order to investigate the effects of interested parameters, the values of wave amplitude ( = 0.05 and 0.1) and number of undulations (n = 1 and 2) are chosen with constants Ra = 105, Da = 10−3, and Pr = 0.71. It is found that the increase in number of undulations has small effect on natural convection inside the enclosure whereas the increase in wave amplitude reduces the strength of convection because higher wave volume plays a barricade role.

    Description: The Pravin method for Hankel transforms is based on the decomposition of kernel function with exponential function. The defect of such method is the difficulty in its parameters determination and lack of adaptability to kernel function especially using monotonically decreasing functions to approximate the convex ones. This thesis proposed an improved scheme by adding new base function in interpolation procedure. The improved method maintains the merit of Pravin method which can convert the Hankel integral to algebraic calculation.     Description: In a ring signature scheme, a user selects an arbitrary ring to be able to sign a message on behalf of the ring without revealing the signer’s identity. Whistle-blowers especially find this useful. To date, various ring signature schemes have been proposed, all considered to be secure as existentially unforgeable with respect to insider corruption; that is, an adversary who chooses ring-message pairs for which he requests signatures, corrupts honest users, and obtains their signing keys can not produce forgeries for new ring-message pairs. Lattice-based ring signature schemes offer lower computational overhead and security from quantum attacks. In this paper, we offer a lattice-based scheme. We begin by showing that the existing ring signature schemes are not sufficiently secure, because existential unforgeability still permits a signer to potentially produce a new signature on previously signed messages. Furthermore, we show that existing ring signature schemes from lattices are not even existentially unforgeable with respect to insider corruption. We then improve previous schemes by applying, for the first time, the concept of strong unforgeability with respect to insider corruption to a ring signature scheme in lattices. This offers more security than any previous ring signature scheme: adversaries cannot produce new signatures for any ring-message pair, including previously signed ring-message pairs.

    Description: As today’s hardware architecture becomes more and more complicated, it is getting harder to modify or improve the microarchitecture of a design in register transfer level (RTL). Consequently, traditional methods we have used to develop a design are not capable of coping with complex designs. In this paper, we suggest a way of designing complex digital logic circuits with a soft and advanced type of SystemVerilog at an electronic system level. We apply the concept of design-and-reuse with a high level of abstraction to implement elliptic curve crypto-processor server farms. With the concept of the superior level of abstraction to the RTL used with the traditional HDL design, we successfully achieved the soft implementation of the crypto-processor server farms as well as robust test bench code with trivial effort in the same simulation environment. Otherwise, it could have required error-prone Verilog simulations for the hardware IPs and other time-consuming jobs such as C/SystemC verification for the software, sacrificing more time and effort. In the design of the elliptic curve cryptography processor engine, we propose a 3X faster GF(2m) serial multiplication architecture.

    Description: After establishing the sparse representation of the source signal subspace, we propose a new method to estimate the direction of arrival (DOA) by solving an -norm minimization for sparse signal recovery of the source powers. Second-order cone programming is applied to reformulate this optimization problem, and it is solved effectively by employing the interior point method. Due to the keeping of the signal subspace and the discarding of the noise subspace, the proposed method is more robust to noise than many other sparsity-based methods. The real data tests and the numerical simulations demonstrate that the proposed method has improved accuracy and robustness to noise, and it is not sensitive to the knowledge about the number of sources. We discuss the computational cost of our method theoretically, and the experiment results verify the computational effectiveness.

    Description: Under a balanced loss function, we derive the explicit formulae of the risk of the Stein-rule (SR) estimator, the positive-part Stein-rule (PSR) estimator, the feasible minimum mean squared error (FMMSE) estimator, and the adjusted feasible minimum mean squared error (AFMMSE) estimator in a linear regression model with multivariate errors. The results show that the PSR estimator dominates the SR estimator under the balanced loss and multivariate errors. Also, our numerical results show that these estimators dominate the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator when the weight of precision of estimation is larger than about half, and vice versa. Furthermore, the AFMMSE estimator dominates the PSR estimator in certain occasions.

    Description: This paper addresses the problem of accurate path following control for an underactuated unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) in the horizontal plane. For an underactuated UUV, the line-of-sight (LOS) guidance method is adopted to map 2D reference trajectory into a desired orientation, and through the tracking of heading to achieve path following, where the sideslip is introduced to modify the desired orientation. In this paper, we propose a method called dynamic surface and active disturbance rejection control (DS-ADRC) to solve the path following control problem. This controller can effectively avoid the phenomenon of explosion of terms in the conventional backstepping method, reduce the dependence on the UUV controller mathematical model, and enhance the antijamming ability. Simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method for an underactuated UUV. The results show that, even for this controller with disturbance, the cross-track error of UUV is gradually converged to zero and has some certain robustness.

    Description: Because of the advances in Internet technology, the applications of the Internet of Things have become a crucial topic. The number of mobile devices used globally substantially increases daily; therefore, information security concerns are increasingly vital. The botnet virus is a major threat to both personal computers and mobile devices; therefore, a method of botnet feature characterization is proposed in this study. The proposed method is a classified model in which an artificial fish swarm algorithm and a support vector machine are combined. A LAN environment with several computers which has infected by the botnet virus was simulated for testing this model; the packet data of network flow was also collected. The proposed method was used to identify the critical features that determine the pattern of botnet. The experimental results indicated that the method can be used for identifying the essential botnet features and that the performance of the proposed method was superior to that of genetic algorithms.

    Description: To better deal with imprecise and uncertain information in decision making, the definition of linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy sets (LIFSs) is introduced, which is characterized by a linguistic membership degree and a linguistic nonmembership degree, respectively. To compare any two linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy values (LIFVs), the score function and accuracy function are defined. Then, based on -norm and -conorm, several aggregation operators are proposed to aggregate linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy information, which avoid the limitations in exiting linguistic operation. In addition, the desired properties of these linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy aggregation operators are discussed. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method in multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM).

    Description: With apparent advantages of the several GHz license-free spectrums, 10 W maximum transmit power, and so forth, 60 GHz wireless communication technology has become the first choice for Gbps level short-range wireless communications. This paper researches 60 GHz wireless communications over the additive white Gaussian noise channel. Channel capacity with quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) is investigated for the unlicensed 59–64 GHz radio spectrum set aside by FCC. Moreover, the capacity with QAM is compared to that with phase shift keying (PSK). It is shown that QAM is capable of providing Gbps data rate and outperforms PSK especially when the modulation order is large. The results prove that QAM is an attractive scheme for 60 GHz wireless communications.

    Description: Numerical simulation of advective-dispersive contaminant transport is carried out by using high-order compact finite difference schemes combined with second-order MacCormack and fourth-order Runge-Kutta schemes. Both of the two schemes have accuracy of sixth-order in space. A sixth-order MacCormack scheme is proposed for the first time within this study. For the aim of demonstrating efficiency and high-order accuracy of the current methods, some numerical experiments have been done. The schemes are implemented to solve two test problems with known exact solutions. It has been exhibited that the methods are capable of succeeding high accuracy and efficiency with minimal computational effort, by comparisons of the computed results with exact solutions.

    Description: The paper constructs a class of simple high-accurate schemes (SHA schemes) with third order approximation accuracy in both space and time to solve linear hyperbolic equations, using linear data reconstruction and Lax-Wendroff scheme. The schemes can be made even fourth order accurate with special choice of parameter. In order to avoid spurious oscillations in the vicinity of strong gradients, we make the SHA schemes total variation diminishing ones (TVD schemes for short) by setting flux limiter in their numerical fluxes and then extend these schemes to solve nonlinear Burgers’ equation and Euler equations. The numerical examples show that these schemes give high order of accuracy and high resolution results. The advantages of these schemes are their simplicity and high order of accuracy.

    Description: This paper examines an alternative approach to the centralized resource allocation model that indicates that all the units are under the control of an entity of the centralized decision maker. The proposed approach is a technique for connecting the two basic Radial CRA-BCC and Nonradial CRA-SBM models in an integrated structure called connected CRA-SBM. In the proposed model, exchanging the two parameter amounts can change the location of the analysis between the CRA-BCC and the CRA-SBM models and deal with the weaknesses inherent in such models. By remedying all the weaknesses in one model, the entire units are simply projected on the frontier line and one can obtain suitable benchmarks for each of them. In the offered model, all of the inputs and outputs, respectively, decrease and increase simultaneously. Lastly, numerical examples emphasize the significance of the offered method.

    Description: For patients who have a senile mental disorder such as dementia, the quantity of exercise and amount of sunlight are an important clue for doses and treatment. Therefore, monitoring daily health information is necessary for patients’ safety and health. A portable and wearable sensor device and server configuration for monitoring data are needed to provide these services for patients. A watch-type device (smart watch) that patients wear and a server system are developed in this paper. The smart watch developed includes a GPS, accelerometer, and illumination sensor, and can obtain real time health information by measuring the position of patients, quantity of exercise, and amount of sunlight. The server system includes the sensor data analysis algorithm and web server used by the doctor and protector to monitor the sensor data acquired from the smart watch. The proposed data analysis algorithm acquires the exercise information and detects the step count in patients’ motion acquired from the acceleration sensor and verifies the three cases of fast pace, slow pace, and walking pace, showing 96% of the experimental results. If developed and the u-Healthcare System for dementia patients is applied, higher quality medical services can be provided to patients.

    Description: This paper focuses on a class of stochastic differential equations with mixed delay based on Lyapunov stability theory, Itô formula, stochastic analysis, and inequality technique. A sufficient condition for existence and uniqueness of the adapted solution to such systems is established by employing fixed point theorem. Some sufficient conditions of exponential stability and corollaries for such systems are obtained by using Lyapunov function. By utilizing Doob’s martingale inequality and Borel-Cantelli lemma, it is shown that the exponentially stable in the mean square of such systems implies the almost surely exponentially stable. In particular, our theoretical results show that if stochastic differential equation is exponentially stable and the time delay is sufficiently small, then the corresponding stochastic differential equation with mixed delay will remain exponentially stable. Moreover, time delay upper limit is solved by using our theoretical results when the system is exponentially stable, and they are more easily verified and applied in practice.

    Description: Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a nonparametric approach for measuring the relative efficiencies of peer decision-making units (DMUs). For systems with two-stage structures, where all the outputs from the first stage are the only inputs to the second stage, the centralized model, which is based on the concept of cooperative game theory, has been widely used to examine the efficiencies of such systems. We define the cross efficiencies of systems with two-stage structures. Since the centralized model may lead to multiple and unacceptable cross efficiencies and rankings of DMUs due to its high flexibility in choosing optimal weights on input and output factors, we develop a game model to obtain a unique cross efficiency measure, which is constructed from the perspective of noncooperative game. An iterative algorithm is then proposed to obtain the game cross efficiencies for the overall systems and subsystems. We use the proposed game model to evaluate the performance of top 30 US commercial banks. The results show that the game model can lead to a unique reasonable cross efficiency for each DMU.

    Description: A portfolio rebalancing model with self-finance strategy and consideration of V-shaped transaction cost is presented in this paper. Our main contribution is that a new constraint is introduced to confirm that the rebalance necessity of the existing portfolio needs to be adjusted. The constraint is constructed by considering both the transaction amount and transaction cost without any additional supply to the investment amount. The V-shaped transaction cost function is used to calculate the transaction cost of the portfolio, and conditional value at risk (CVaR) is used to measure the risk of the portfolios. Computational tests on practical financial data show that the proposed model is effective and the rebalanced portfolio increases the expected return of the portfolio and reduces the CVaR risk of the portfolio.

    Description: This paper considers the stable set and coloring problems of hypergraphs and presents several new results and algorithms using the semitensor product of matrices. By the definitions of an incidence matrix of a hypergraph and characteristic logical vector of a vertex subset, an equivalent algebraic condition is established for hypergraph stable sets, as well as a new algorithm, which can be used to search all the stable sets of any hypergraph. Then, the vertex coloring problem is investigated, and a necessary and sufficient condition in the form of algebraic inequalities is derived. Furthermore, with an algorithm, all the coloring schemes and minimum coloring partitions with the given q colors can be calculated for any hypergraph. Finally, one illustrative example and its application to storing problem are provided to show the effectiveness and applicability of the theoretical results.

    Description: We present an efficient iterative method for solving a class of nonlinear second-order Fredholm integrodifferential equations associated with different boundary conditions. A simple algorithm is given to obtain the approximate solutions for this type of equations based on the reproducing kernel space method. The solution obtained by the method takes form of a convergent series with easily computable components. Furthermore, the error of the approximate solution is monotone decreasing with the increasing of nodal points.     Description: Template matching is an approach for signal pattern recognition, often used for biomedical signals including electroencephalogram (EEG). Since EEG is often severely contaminated by various physiological or pathological artifacts, identification and rejection of these artifacts with improved template matching algorithms would enhance the overall quality of EEG signals. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to improve the accuracy of conventional template matching methods by adopting the dynamic positional warping (DPW) technique, developed recently for handwriting pattern analysis. To validate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed method, eye-blink artifacts in the EEG signals were detected, and the results were then compared to those from conventional methods. DPW was found to outperform the conventional methods in terms of artifact detection accuracy, demonstrating the power of DPW in identifying specific one-dimensional data patterns.

    Description: This study provides a dynamic model and analyzes its process that may plunge the business ecosystem into ToC (the Tragedy of the Commons). When developing the model, we have in mind some industries where the marketing competition to secure a large installed base is intense. The social commerce industry is a representative example of this type of industries, but the scope of this study is not limited to the industry. We first introduce a previous study focusing on the static Nash equilibrium, and then present an extended version of the basic model in a dynamic perspective. According to our analyses on the dynamic equilibria together with their stability, there may be a unique interior equilibrium, but it is highly likely unstable. In addition, possible (near) boundary equilibria are also unstable for a wide range of parameter values. We also conduct some numerical experiments and discover cycles as solutions to some particular instances. Since those cycles contain the ToC traps, a policy measure or regulation may need to be employed. Our approach and results will help to figure out a clue to escape from the ToC trap, thereby shedding new light on the sustainable growth of the business ecosystem, which is prone to excessive marketing competition.

    Description: The asymptotic behavior of the solution of the singularly perturbed boundary value problem is examined. The derivations prove that a unique pair exists, in which components and satisfy the equation and boundary value conditions . The issues of limit transfer of the perturbed problem solution to the unperturbed problem solution as a small parameter approaches zero and the existence of the initial jump phenomenon are studied. This research is conducted in two stages. In the first stage, the Cauchy function and boundary functions are introduced. Then, on the basis of the introduced Cauchy function and boundary functions, the solution of the restoration problem is obtained from the position of the singularly perturbed problem with the initial jump. Through this process, the formula of the initial jump and the asymptotic estimates of the solution of the considered boundary value problem are identified.

    Description: In this paper, we proposed a new building recognition method named subregion’s multiscale gist feature (SM-gist) extraction and corresponding columns information based dimensionality reduction (CCI-DR). Our proposed building recognition method is presented as a two-stage model: in the first stage, a building image is divided into 4 × 5 subregions, and gist vectors are extracted from these regions individually. Then, we combine these gist vectors into a matrix with relatively high dimensions. In the second stage, we proposed CCI-DR to project the high dimensional manifold matrix to low dimensional subspace. Compared with the previous building recognition method the advantages of our proposed method are that (1) gist features extracted by SM-gist have the ability to adapt to nonuniform illumination and that (2) CCI-DR can address the limitation of traditional dimensionality reduction methods, which convert gist matrices into vectors and thus mix the corresponding gist vectors from different feature maps. Our building recognition method is evaluated on the Sheffield buildings database, and experiments show that our method can achieve satisfactory performance.

    Description: Grey target decision model for mixed attributes including real numbers, interval numbers, triangular fuzzy numbers, and trapezoidal fuzzy numbers is complex for its data processing in different ways and information distortion in handling fuzzy numbers. To solve these problems, the binary connection number proposed in set pair analysis is applied to unify different types of index values with their parameters’ average values and standard deviations as determinacy-uncertainty vectors. Then the target center index vectors are determined by the modules of index vectors of all alternatives under different attributes. So the similarity of each index vector and its target center index vector called nearness degree can be calculated. Following, all the nearness degrees are normalized in linear method in order to be compared with each other. Finally, the optimal alternative can be determined by the minimum of all integrated nearness degrees. Case study demonstrated that this approach can not only unify different types of numbers, and simplify the calculation but also reduce the information distortion in operating fuzzy numbers.

    Description: Training of an artificial neural network (ANN) adjusts the internal weights of the network in order to minimize a predefined error measure. This error measure is given by an error function. Several different error functions are suggested in the literature. However, the far most common measure for regression is the mean square error. This paper looks into the possibility of improving the performance of neural networks by selecting or defining error functions that are tailor-made for a specific objective. A neural network trained to simulate tension forces in an anchor chain on a floating offshore platform is designed and tested. The purpose of setting up the network is to reduce calculation time in a fatigue life analysis. Therefore, the networks trained on different error functions are compared with respect to accuracy of rain flow counts of stress cycles over a number of time series simulations. It is shown that adjusting the error function to perform significantly better on a specific problem is possible. On the other hand. it is also shown that weighted error functions actually can impair the performance of an ANN.

    Description: We investigate the inverse problem in the nonhomogeneous heat equation involving the recovery of the initial temperature from measurements of the final temperature. This problem is known as the backward heat problem and is severely ill-posed. We show that this problem can be converted into the first Fredholm integral equation, and an algorithm of inversion is given using Tikhonov's regularization method. The genetic algorithm for obtaining the regularization parameter is presented. We also present numerical computations that verify the accuracy of our approximation.

    Description: A new epidemiological model is introduced with nonlinear incidence, in which the infected disease may lose infectiousness and then evolves to a chronic noninfectious disease when the infected disease has not been cured for a certain time . The existence, uniqueness, and stability of the disease-free equilibrium and endemic equilibrium are discussed. The basic reproductive number is given. The model is studied in two cases: with and without time delay. For the model without time delay, the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable provided that ; if , then there exists a unique endemic equilibrium, and it is globally asymptotically stable. For the model with time delay, a sufficient condition is given to ensure that the disease-free equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable. Hopf bifurcation in endemic equilibrium with respect to the time is also addressed.

    Description: Extensive research in the field of telecommunications has been done on the techniques of multipath routing, as they offer many advantages over conventional single-path routing methods. Some of these techniques make use of the so-called Destination-Oriented Directed Acyclic Graphs (DODAGs) which are constructed on the networks, usually in a distributed way. However, while defining methods of forming DODAGs, the authors of multipath algorithms tend to overlook a possibly significant issue which could, in a way, define the quality of a given DODAG in the context of multipath routing, namely, providing an equitable distribution of the paths between the nodes in the newly created DODAG. In this paper, a few requirements for constructing a “fair” DODAG are identified in the context of multipath routing. An optimization algorithm that tries to find an equitable solution according to these requirements is also presented. Three DODAG-creation algorithms that appear in the literature are simulated and compared against this equitable solution, and none of them is getting close to it in terms of fairness in the distribution of the paths. Moreover, two interesting properties of equitable solutions are revealed in the simulations.

    Description: This paper discusses the stock size selection problem (Chambers and Dyson, 1976), which is of relevance in the float glass industry. Given a fixed integer N, generally between 2 and 6 (but potentially larger), we find the N best sizes for intermediate stock from which to cut a roster of orders. An objective function is formulated with the purpose of minimizing wastage, and the problem is phrased as a combinatorial optimization problem involving the selection of columns of a cost matrix. Some bounds and heuristics are developed, and two exact algorithms (depth-first search and branch-and-bound) are applied to the problem, as well as one approximate algorithm (NOMAD). It is found that wastage reduces dramatically as N increases, but this trend becomes less pronounced for larger values of N (beyond 6 or 7). For typical values of N, branch-and-bound is able to find the exact solution within a reasonable amount of time.

    Description: The element-free Galerkin (EFG) method is one of the widely used meshfree methods for solving partial differential equations. In the EFG method, shape functions are derived from a moving least-squares (MLS) approximation, which involves the inversion of a small matrix for every point of interest. To avoid the calculation of matrix inversion in the formulation of the shape functions, an improved MLS approximation is presented, where an orthogonal function system with a weight function is used. However, it can also lead to ill-conditioned or even singular system of equations. In this paper, aspects of the IMLS approximation are analyzed in detail. The reason why singularity problem occurs is studied. A novel technique based on matrix triangular process is proposed to solve this problem. It is shown that the EFG method with present technique is very effective in constructing shape functions. Numerical examples are illustrated to show the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method. Although our study relies on monomial basis functions, it is more general than existing methods and can be extended to any basis functions.

    Description: Train operation is a complex nonlinear process; it is difficult to establish accurate mathematical model. In this paper, we design ATO speed controller based on the input and output data of the train operation. The method combines multimodeling with predictive functional control according to complicated nonlinear characteristics of the train operation. Firstly, we cluster the data sample by using fuzzy-c means algorithm. Secondly, we identify parameter of cluster model by using recursive least square algorithm with forgetting factor and then establish the local set of models of the process of train operation. Then at each sample time, we can obtain the global predictive model about the system based on the weighted indicators by designing a kind of weighting algorithm with error compensation. Thus, the predictive functional controller is designed to control the speed of the train. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
