Description: Recently, in 2013, we proved that certain presentations present the Dunwoody -manifold groups. Since the Dunwoody -manifolds do not have a unique Heegaard diagram, we cannot determine a unique group presentation for the Dunwoody -manifolds. It is well known that every -knots in a lens space can be represented by the set of the 4-tuples (Cattabriga and Mulazzani (2004); S. H. Kim and Y. Kim (2012, 2013)). In particular, to determine a unique Heegaard diagram of the Dunwoody -manifolds, we proved the fact that the certain subset of representing all -bridge knots of -knots is determined completely by using the dual and mirror -decompositions (S. H. Kim and Y. Kim (2011)). In this paper, we show how to obtain the dual and mirror images of all elements in as the generalization of some results by Grasselli and Mulazzani (2001); S. H. Kim and Y. Kim (2011).

Description: The notion of generalized derivations of BCC-algebras is introduced, and some related properties are investigated. Also, we consider regular generalized derivations and the D-invariant on ideals of BCC-algebras. We also characterized KerD by generalized derivations.

Description: A new method proposed and coined by the authors as the homo-separation of variables method is utilized to solve systems of linear and nonlinear fractional partial differential equations (FPDEs). The new method is a combination of two well-established mathematical methods, namely, the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) and the separation of variables method. When compared to existing analytical and numerical methods, the method resulting from our approach shows that it is capable of simplifying the target problem at hand and reducing the computational load that is required to solve it, considerably. The efficiency and usefulness of this new general-purpose method is verified by several examples, where different systems of linear and nonlinear FPDEs are solved.

Description: By assigning a certain direction to the webgraphs, which are defined as the Cartesian product of cycles and paths, we prove that they are nonderogatory.

Description: Following our paper [Linear Algebra Appl. 433(2010), 699–717], we present a framework and computational tools for the Coxeter spectral classification of finite posets . One of the main motivations for the study is an application of matrix representations of posets in representation theory explained by Drozd [Funct. Anal. Appl. 8(1974), 219–225]. We are mainly interested in a Coxeter spectral classification of posets such that the symmetric Gram matrix is positive semidefinite, where is the incidence matrix of . Following the idea of Drozd mentioned earlier, we associate to its Coxeter matrix , its Coxeter spectrum , a Coxeter polynomial , and a Coxeter number. In case is positive semi-definite, we also associate to a reduced Coxeter number , and the defect homomorphism . In this case, the Coxeter spectrum is a subset of the unit circle and consists of roots of unity. In case is positive semi-definite of corank one, we relate the Coxeter spectral properties of the posets with the Coxeter spectral properties of a simply laced Euclidean diagram associated with . Our aim of the Coxeter spectral analysis of such posets is to answer the question when the Coxeter type of determines its incidence matrix (and, hence, the poset ) uniquely, up to a -congruency. In connection with this question, we also discuss the problem studied by Horn and Sergeichuk [Linear Algebra Appl. 389(2004), 347–353], if for any -invertible matrix , there is such that and is the identity matrix.

Description: A type of prolongation structure for several general systems is discussed. They are based on a set of one forms for which the underlying structure group of the integrability condition corresponds to the Lie algebra of , , and . Each will be considered in turn and the latter two systems represent larger cases. This geometric approach is applied to all of the three of these systems to obtain prolongation structures explicitly. In both cases, the prolongation structure is reduced to the situation of three smaller problems.

Description: We introduce the notion of -continuous functions and some other forms of continuity in biminimal structure spaces. Some new characterizations and several fundamental properties of -continuous functions are obtained.

Description: We study canonical paracontact connection on a para-Sasakian manifold. We prove that a Ricci-flat para-Sasakian manifold with respect to canonical paracontact connection is an -Einstein manifold. We also investigate some properties of curvature tensor, conformal curvature tensor, -curvature tensor, concircular curvature tensor, projective curvature tensor, and pseudo-projective curvature tensor with respect to canonical paracontact connection on a para-Sasakian manifold. It is shown that a concircularly flat para-Sasakian manifold with respect to canonical paracontact connection is of constant scalar curvature. We give some characterizations for pseudo-projectively flat para-Sasakian manifolds.

Description: We study the Dirichlet problem for the equation in the exterior of nonclosed Lipschitz surfaces in . The Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation is a particular case of our problem. Theorems on existence and uniqueness of a weak solution of the problem are proved. The integral representation for a solution is obtained in the form of single-layer potential. The density in the potential is defined as a solution of the operator (integral) equation, which is uniquely solvable.

Description: We study the role of predation dynamics in oscillation of pest population in insect ecology. A two-dimensional pest control model (under the use of insecticides) with time delay in predation is considered in this paper. By the Hopf bifurcation theory, we prove the existence of the stable oscillation of the system. We also consider the economic viability of the control process. First we improve the Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP) where the delay in the system is sufficiently small and control function is linear, and then we apply the improved version of PMP to perform the optimal analysis of the pest control model as a special case.

Description: We introduce a new class of mappings satisfying the “common limit range property” in symmetric spaces and utilize the same to establish common fixed point theorems for such mappings in symmetric spaces. Our results generalize and improve some recent results contained in the literature of metric fixed point theory. Some illustrative examples to highlight the realized improvements are also furnished.

Description: Diagonal updating scheme is among the cheapest Newton-like methods for solving system of nonlinear equations. Nevertheless, the method has some shortcomings. In this paper, we proposed an improved matrix-free secant updating scheme via line search strategies, by using the steps of backtracking in the Armijo-type line search as a step length predictor and Wolfe-Like condition as corrector. Our approach aims at improving the overall performance of diagonal secant updating scheme. Under mild assumptions, the global convergence results have been presented. Numerical experiments verify that the proposed approach is very promising.

The purpose of the present paper is to prove some theorems in the setting of a semigroup ideal of a 3-prime near ring admitting a generalized derivation, thereby extending some known results on derivations.

Description: We give a necessary and sufficient mean condition for the quotient of two Jensen functionals and define a new class of mean values where are continuously differentiable convex functions satisfying the relation ,  . Then we asked for a characterization of such that the inequalities or hold for each positive , where are the harmonic, arithmetic, logarithmic, and identric means, respectively. For a subclass of with , this problem is thoroughly solved.

Description: We give an Ulam type stability result for the following functional equation: under a suitable condition. We also give a concrete stability result for the case taking up as a control function.

Description: We consider meromorphic starlike univalent functions that are also bi-starlike and find Faber polynomial coefficient estimates for these types of functions. A function is said to be bi-starlike if both the function and its inverse are starlike univalent.

Description: We give a set of axioms to establish a perpendicularity relation in an Abelian group and then study the existence of perpendicularities in and and in certain other groups. Our approach provides a justification for the use of the symbol denoting relative primeness in number theory and extends the domain of this convention to some degree. Related to that, we also consider parallelism from an axiomatic perspective.

Description: For real numbers and such that , we denote by the class of normalized analytic functions which satisfy the following two sided-inequality: where denotes the open unit disk. We find some relationships involving functions in the class . And we estimate the bounds of coefficients and solve the Fekete-Szegö problem for functions in this class. Furthermore, we investigate the bounds of initial coefficients of inverse functions or biunivalent functions.

Description: We define pseudohyperbolical Smarandache curves according to the Sabban frame in Minkowski 3-space. We obtain the geodesic curvatures and the expression for the Sabban frame vectors of special pseudohyperbolic Smarandache curves. Finally, we give some examples of such curves.

Description: We use the geometric data to define a bordism invariant for the fiberwise intersection theory. Under some certain conditions, this invariant is an obstruction for the theory. Moreover, we prove the converse of fiberwise Lefschetz fixed point theorem.

Description: The purpose of this paper is to study n-dimensional -submanifolds of -dimension in a quaternionic projective space and especially to determine such submanifolds under some curvature conditions.

Description: We establish properly efficient necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for multiobjective fractional programming involving nonsmooth generalized -univex functions. Description: We investigate the cyclic homology and free resolution effect of a commutative unital Banach algebra. Using the free resolution operator, we define the relative cyclic homology of commutative Banach algebras. Lemmas and theorems of this investigation are studied and proved. Finally, the relation between cyclic homology and relative cyclic homology of Banach algebra is deduced.

Description: Classical wavelet thresholding methods suffer from boundary problems caused by the application of the wavelet transformations to a finite signal. As a result, large bias at the edges and artificial wiggles occur when the classical boundary assumptions are not satisfied. Although polynomial wavelet regression and local polynomial wavelet regression effectively reduce the risk of this problem, the estimates from these two methods can be easily affected by the presence of correlated noise and outliers, giving inaccurate estimates. This paper introduces two robust methods in which the effects of boundary problems, outliers, and correlated noise are simultaneously taken into account. The proposed methods combine thresholding estimator with either a local polynomial model or a polynomial model using the generalized least squares method instead of the ordinary one. A primary step that involves removing the outlying observations through a statistical function is considered as well. The practical performance of the proposed methods has been evaluated through simulation experiments and real data examples. The results are strong evidence that the proposed method is extremely effective in terms of correcting the boundary bias and eliminating the effects of outliers and correlated noise.

Description: This paper focuses on the derivation of diagonally implicit two-point block backward differentiation formulas (DI2BBDF) for solving first-order initial value problem (IVP) with two fixed points. The method approximates the solution at two points simultaneously. The implementation and the stability of the proposed method are also discussed. A performance of the DI2BBDF is compared with the existing methods.

Description: We review some more and less recent results concerning bounds on nonlinear eigenvalues (NLEV) for gradient operators. In particular, we discuss the asymptotic behaviour of NLEV (as the norm of the eigenvector tends to zero) in bifurcation problems from the line of trivial solutions, considering perturbations of linear self-adjoint operators in a Hilbert space. The proofs are based on the Lusternik-Schnirelmann theory of critical points on one side and on the Lyapounov-Schmidt reduction to the relevant finite-dimensional kernel on the other side. The results are applied to some semilinear elliptic operators in bounded domains of . A section reviewing some general facts about eigenvalues of linear and nonlinear operators is included.

Description: The purpose of the present paper is to establish some new results giving the sharp bounds of the real parts of ratios of harmonic univalent functions to their sequences of partial sums by using convolution. Relevant connections of the results presented here with various known results are briefly indicated.

Description: Based on some ideas of Greene and Krantz, we study the semicontinuity of automorphism groups of domains in one and several complex variables. We show that semicontinuity fails for domains in , , with Lipschitz boundary, but it holds for domains in with Lipschitz boundary. Using the same ideas, we develop some other concepts related to mappings of Lipschitz domains. These include Bergman curvature, stability properties for the Bergman kernel, and also some ideas about equivariant embeddings.

Description: We are going to generalize the Jungck's fixed point theorem for commuting mappings by mean of the concepts of altering distance functions and compatible pair of mappings, as well as, by using contractive inequalities of integral type and contractive inequalities depending on another function.

Description: We study the Dirichlet problem for the 2D Laplace equation in a domain bounded by smooth closed curves and smooth cracks. In the formulation of the problem, we do not require compatibility conditions for Dirichlet's boundary data at the tips of the cracks. However, if boundary data satisfies the compatibility conditions at the tips of the cracks, then this is a particular case of our problem. The cases of both interior and exterior domains are considered. The well-posed formulation of the problem is given, theorems on existence and uniqueness of a classical solution are proved, and the integral representation for a solution is obtained. It is shown that weak solution of the problem does not typically exist, though the classical solution exists. The asymptotic formulae for singularities of a solution gradient at the tips of the cracks are presented.

Description: We establish some coupled fixed point theorems for a mapping satisfying some contraction conditions in complete partial metric spaces. Our consequences extend the results of H. Aydi (2011).

Description: The purpose of the present paper is to study a certain subclass of harmonic univalent functions associated with Dziok-Srivastava operator. We obtain coefficient conditions, distortion bounds, and extreme points for the above class of harmonic univalent functions belonging to this class and discuss a class preserving integral operator. We also show that class studied in this paper is closed under convolution and convex combination. The results obtained for the class reduced to the corresponding results for several known classes in the literature are briefly indicated.

Description: Steady-state creep response in a rotating disc made of Al-SiC (particle) composite having linearly varying thickness has been carried out using isotropic/anisotropic Hoffman yield criterion and results are compared with those using von Mises yield criterion/Hill's criterion ignoring difference in yield stresses. The steady-state creep behavior has been described by Sherby's creep law. The material parameters characterizing difference in yield stresses have been used from the available experimental results in literature. Stress and strain rate distributions developed due to rotation have been calculated. It is concluded that the stress and strain distributions got affected from the thermal residual stress in an isotropic/anisotropic rotating disc, although the effect of residual stress on creep behavior in an anisotropic rotating disc is observed to be lower than those observed in an isotropic disc. Thus, the presence of residual stress in composite rotating disc with varying thickness needs attention for designing a disc.

Description: We find approximate expressions and for the real and imaginary parts of the th zero of the Bessel polynomial . To obtain these closed-form formulas we use the fact that the points of well-defined curves in the complex plane are limit points of the zeros of the normalized Bessel polynomials. Thus, these zeros are first computed numerically through an implementation of the electrostatic interpretation formulas and then, a fit to the real and imaginary parts as functions of , and is obtained. It is shown that the resulting complex number is -convergent to for fixed .

Description: This paper deals with a class of algebraic hyperstructures called semihypergroups, which are a generalization of semigroups. In this paper, we introduce pure hyperradical of a hyperideal in a semihypergroup with zero element. For this purpose, we define pure, semipure, and other related types of hyperideals and establish some of their basic properties in semihypergroups.

Description: This paper deals with recent developments of Hilbert-type discrete and integral inequalities by introducing kernels, weight functions, and multiparameters. Included are numerous generalizations, extensions, and refinements of Hilbert-type inequalities involving many special functions such as beta, gamma, logarithm, trigonometric, hyper-bolic, Bernoulli's functions and Bernoulli's numbers, Euler's constant, zeta function, and hypergeometric functions with many applications. Special attention is given to many equivalent inequalities and to conditions under which the constant factors involved in inequalities are the best possible. Many particular cases of Hilbert-type inequalities are presented with numerous applications. A large number of major books and recent research papers published during 2009–2012 are included to stimulate new interest in future study and research.

Description: We study the backward problem with time-dependent coefficient which is a severely ill-posed problem. We regularize this problem by combining quasi-boundary value method and quasi-reversibility method and then obtain sharp error estimate between the exact solution and the regularized solution. A numerical experiment is given in order to illustrate our results.

Description: We show how a quantum formulation of financial economics can be derived from asymmetries with respect to Fisher information. Our approach leverages statistical derivations of quantum mechanics which provide a natural basis for interpreting quantum formulations of social sciences generally and of economics in particular. We illustrate the utility of this approach by deriving arbitrage-free derivative-security dynamics.

Description: We present a new proof of generalized Flett's mean value theorem due to Pawlikowska (from 1999) using only the original Flett's mean value theorem. Also, a Trahan-type condition is established in general case.

Description: Some properties of the nilpotent elements of a residuated lattice are studied. The concept of cyclic residuated lattices is introduced, and some related results are obtained. The relation between finite cyclic residuated lattices and simple MV-algebras is obtained. Finally, the notion of nilpotent elements is used to define the radical of a residuated lattice.

Description: Generalized solutions to the abstract Cauchy problem for a quasilinear equation with the generator of an integrated semigroup and with terms reflecting nonlinear perturbations and white noise type perturbations are under consideration. An abstract stochastic Colombeau algebra is constructed, and solutions in the algebra are studied.

Description: We introduce and study generalized transversal lightlike submanifold of indefinite Sasakian manifolds which includes radical and transversal lightlike submanifolds of indefinite Sasakian manifolds as its trivial subcases. A characteristic theorem and a classification theorem of generalized transversal lightlike submanifolds are obtained.

Description: We develop the local theory of surfaces immersed in the pseudo-Galilean space, a special type of Cayley-Klein spaces. We define principal, Gaussian, and mean curvatures. By this, the general setting for study of surfaces of constant curvature in the pseudo-Galilean space is provided. We describe surfaces of revolution of constant curvature. We introduce special local coordinates for surfaces of constant curvature, so-called the Tchebyshev coordinates, and show that the angle between parametric curves satisfies the Klein-Gordon partial differential equation. We determine the Tchebyshev coordinates for surfaces of revolution and construct a surface with constant curvature from a particular solution of the Klein-Gordon equation.

Description: The aim of this paper is to introduce the space of roots to study the topological properties of the spaces of polynomials. Instead of identifying a monic complex polynomial with the vector of its coefficients, we identify it with the set of its roots. Viète's map gives a homeomorphism between the space of roots and the space of coefficients and it gives an explicit formula to relate both spaces. Using this viewpoint we establish that the space of monic (Schur or Hurwitz) aperiodic polynomials is contractible. Additionally we obtain a Boundary Theorem.

Description: We will extend the definition of antieigenvalue of an operator to antieigenvalue-type quantities, in the first section of this paper, in such a way that the relations between antieigenvalue-type quantities and their corresponding Kantorovich-type inequalities are analogous to those of antieigenvalue and Kantorovich inequality. In the second section, we approximate several antieigenvalue-type quantities for arbitrary accretive operators. Each antieigenvalue-type quantity is approximated in terms of the same quantity for normal matrices. In particular, we show that for an arbitrary accretive operator, each antieigenvalue-type quantity is the limit of the same quantity for a sequence of finite-dimensional normal matrices.

Description: A function analytic in the open unit disk is said to be bi-univalent in if both the function and its inverse map are univalent there. The bi-univalency condition imposed on the functions analytic in makes the behavior of their coefficients unpredictable. Not much is known about the behavior of the higher order coefficients of classes of bi-univalent functions. We use Faber polynomial expansions of bi-univalent functions to obtain estimates for their general coefficients subject to certain gap series as well as providing bounds for early coefficients of such functions.

Description: We raise several elementary questions pertaining to various aspects of means. These questions refer to both known and newly introduced families of means, and include questions of characterizations of certain families, relations among certain families, comparability among the members of certain families, and concordance of certain sequences of means. They also include questions about internality tests for certain mean-looking functions and about certain triangle centers viewed as means of the vertices. The questions are accessible to people with no background in means, and it is also expected that these people can seriously investigate, and contribute to the solutions of, these problems. The solutions are expected to require no more than simple tools from analysis, algebra, functional equations, and geometry.

Description: The notion of symmetric left bi-derivation of a BCI-algebra X is introduced, and related properties are investigated. Some results on componentwise regular and d-regular symmetric left bi-derivations are obtained. Finally, characterizations of a p-semisimple BCI-algebra are explored, and it is proved that, in a p-semisimple BCI-algebra, F is a symmetric left bi-derivation if and only if it is a symmetric bi-derivation.

Description: We showed that the class of left Baire-1 compositors is precisely the class of continuous functions. This answers a characterization problem posed in the work by Zhao (2007, page 550) and settles in the affirmative the conjecture in the work by Fenecios and Cabral (2012, page 43). Moreover, based on the above result we provide a new proof that the class of functions where is the class of all positive continuous functions and is the class of all positive constants as defined in the work by Bakowska and Pawlak (2010) is exactly the class of all continuous functions.

Description: We present an efficient and simple algorithm to generate 4-point n-ary interpolating schemes. Our algorithm is based on three simple steps: second divided differences, determination of position of vertices by using second divided differences, and computation of new vertices. It is observed that 4-point n-ary interpolating schemes generated by completely different frameworks (i.e., Lagrange interpolant and wavelet theory) can also be generated by the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we have discussed continuity, Hölder regularity, degree of polynomial generation, polynomial reproduction, and approximation order of the schemes.

Description: A stochastic Ramsey model is studied with the Cobb-Douglas production function maximizing the expected discounted utility of consumption. We transformed the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation associated with the stochastic Ramsey model so as to transform the dimension of the state space by changing the variables. By the viscosity solution method, we established the existence of viscosity solution of the transformed Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation associated with this model. Finally, the optimal consumption policy is derived from the optimality conditions in the HJB equation.
