    Description: The research goal of this study was to investigate how supply chain partnerships and customer orientation affect the operational performance of food service companies by moderating flexibility. In total, 725 invitation messages were mailed to members of Ihergo, Groupon, 17P, of which, 166 were returned (a return rate of 22.9 %). Structured equation modeling with PLS analysis allows empirical assessment of the measurement model used in this study. Companies will redefine their business models by connecting suppliers’ and customers’ view, and by integrating customers’ opinions and queries for the planning and development of new products. Linkage efficiency suppliers will reduce inventory and decrease perishable for food service companies based on the driving force to buy in the virtual environment. Product innovation and reduction of the time to market by supplier integration and customer integration are important to food service companies, and flexibility plays an important role in food service companies.

    Description: E-procurement and supplier-relationship management systems have helped to substantially advance process execution in supply management. However, current supply network systems still face challenges of high data integration efforts, as well as the decoupling of structured data and processes from the growing amount of digitalized unstructured interactions of supply management professionals. Inspired by the room for improvement posed by this challenges, our research proposes a design for a supply network artifact in supplier qualification that addresses these problems by enabling holistic integration of data, processes, and people. The artifact is developed following an action design research approach. Building on a set of meta-requirements derived from literature and practice explorations, we conceptualize two design principles and derive corresponding design decisions that have been implemented in an software artifact. Finally, we formulate testable hypotheses and evaluate the artifact and its design in the context of supplier qualification. Our results show that the proposed design reduces mental effort of supply management professionals and significantly increases efficiency when performing typical supply network tasks such as supplier qualification.

    Description: Development of successful business models has become a necessity in turbulent business environments, but compared to research on business modeling tools, attention to the role of metrics in designing business models in literature is limited. Building on existing approaches to business models and performance measurement literature, we develop a generic open repository of metrics related to core business model concepts. We validate and assess the practical value of the repository based on four e-Business model cases. The repository can be utilized in designing business models, specifically for networked enterprises. It is neither complete nor universally applicable, but needs adjustment with each design. Ultimately, with this paper, we hope measurement will become an integral part of the business model innovation discussion.

    Description: The worldwide growth of mobile technology has enabled many companies to take advantage of its application as complementary sales tools. The main objective of this research is user acceptance analysis of near field communication mobile payment systems. Classic variables from the technology acceptance model, as well as variables from other recent studies, were used as models for this research (compatibility, security, personal innovation and individual mobility). To meet these objectives a questionnaire, filled out by 191 respondents, formed the basis of a structural equation modeling designed by PLS 3.0 software. The results show that attitude, subjective norms and innovation and are determinants of the future intention to use this technology. Finally, the main implications for corporate management and business development strategies which reinforce this type of business in light of new technical developments are discussed.

    Description: The development of Extract–Transform–Load (ETL) processes is the most complex, time-consuming and expensive phase of data warehouse development. Yet, the dynamics of modern business systems demand a more agile and flexible approach to their development. As a result, current research in this area is focused on ETL process conceptualization and the automation of ETL process development. This paper proposes a novel solution for automating ETL processes using the domain-specific modeling (DSM) approach. The proposed solution is based on the formal specification of ETL processes and the implementation of such formal specifications. Thus, in accordance with the DSM approach, several new domain-specific languages (DSLs) are introduced, each defining concepts relevant for a specific aspect of an ETL process. The focus of this paper is the actual implementation of the formal specification of an ETL process. To this end, a specific ETL platform (ETL-PL) is introduced to technologically support both the modeling of ETL processes (i.e., the creation of models in accordance with the introduced DSLs) and the automated transformation of the created models into the executable code of a specific application framework (representing ETL-PL’s execution environment). It should be emphasized that ETL-PL actually presumes the dynamic execution of ETL models or, more precisely, the executable code is generated at runtime. Thus the execution environment consists of code generator components and the components implementing the application framework. ETL-PL has been implemented as an extension of the .NET platform.

    Description: In enterprise integration, one of the most complex tasks is to map elements of various interfaces to each other. These interfaces often transport data in different ways. This means that some form of data transformation is needed. We present an approach where structural and semantic models of the interfaces can be used together to automate or semi-automate this otherwise tedious and error prone manual process. Some of the possible criteria for interface element mapping are shown, along with semantic conflicts and how they are detected and resolved. We also present a prototype tool, including an overview of its architecture, that enables us to test our approach and have a real-world runnable implementation that is deployable on an enterprise service bus runtime. Finally, we show how some of the steps in the mapping and conflict resolution process could be made configurable by the user, making the integration developer agnostic with respect to the technical implementation of the involved systems.

    Description: In today’s global competitive environment, the need for continuous improvement is a matter of considerable importance within manufacturing enterprises. To this end, project managers, and managers in general, design and assess different projects with the purpose of achieving efficient processes, reducing costs and waste, increasing product and service quality, developing new products and services, enhancing customer relationship management, optimising enterprise resources, and so on. However, it is well-known that managing enterprise resources in order to accomplish effective completion of projects is a complex task to carry out. Furthermore, it has been recognised that the way staff actually understands the purpose of a project, the way they perform different project activities, and how they are able to influence project design and assessment are key factors for influencing the success of a project. This paper presents a systemic methodology to design and assess projects more effectively and efficiently based on program logic models and system dynamics with the aim of facilitating a clear understanding of the needs, purposes, goals, activities and tasks of a project among its stakeholders towards achieving success.

    Description: The evaluation of modeling processes for years has focused on assessing the outcome of modeling, while the process of modeling itself hardly has been subject of examination. Only in recent years, with rising interest in collaborative conceptual modeling approaches, the process of modeling has gained more attention. Different streams of research have focused on examining the sequence of model manipulations or have considered the collaborative modeling to be a negotiation process and shaped evaluation criteria accordingly. This article proposes to add the perspective of articulation and alignment of the topic of modeling to the potential foci of evaluation. Its contribution is to show, how existing research originating in theories of co-construction of knowledge can be adapted for this purpose and how the adopted perspective is complementary to those already available in related work. A comparative field study applying different evaluation methods on a single real world showcase is presented to show the practical applicability of the approach and allows to identify potential for the combination of previously unrelated analytical dimensions.
