Description:    Iodination reaction followed by conversion of iodine-substituted methylphenols to the corresponding trifl uoroacetates was suggested for improving the sensitivity of the gas-chromatographic determination of phenol and its methyl-substituted derivatives (al isomers of mono- and diethylphenols, 2,3,5-, 2,3,6-, and 3,4,5-trimethylphenols) in aqueous media. Acylation products of iodo methylphenols (104 compounds) were identified by linear-logarithmic retention indices on a standard nonpolar polydimethylsiloxane stationary phase, and the pattern of their variation with the number and nature of substituents were characterized. A procedure for identification of methyl-substituted phenols in water in their gas-chromatographic determination with an electron-capture detector was developed. Description:    Distribution of copper electrodeposited from a sulfuric acid solution onto fibrous carbon electrodes, copper deposition rate, and current efficiency by the metal were studied in relation to the electrolysis duration, electrical conductivity of the electrode, geometric current density, and solution flow rate. The variation of the electrode thickness on which copper ions discharge at the limiting diffusion current at various solution flow rates and the electrode thickness on which the whole amount of oxygen dissolved in the electrolyte is reduced were calculated in relation to the solution flow rate and geometric current density. The main factors governing the distribution of copper across the electrode thickness and the electrolysis parameters from the beginning of the process till “clogging” of a part of the electrode by the metal were determined. Description:    Diffusion coefficients characterizing penetration of aqueous solutions of magnesium, calcium, strontium, and barium nitrates across porous-glass membranes with predominant pore radii of 4.5–70 nm were determined. A decrease in the pore radii of the membranes is accompanied in all cases by an exponential fall of the diffusion mobility. A reversal of the diffusion mobility series was observed for membranes with pore radii of 4.5 and 70 nm on the background of the general tendency toward a concentration-related rise in the diffusion coefficients. Description:    Adsorption and subsequent polymerization of nickel(II) complexes with Schiff bases were studied in a porous carbon material used to manufacture electric double-layer capacitors (supercapacitors). The optimal modification conditions of the carbon material with polymeric complexes to obtain the maximum effect as regards the accumulation of electric energy in the supercapacitor were determined and substantiated. An effective and cost-efficient technique for modification of supercapacitor electrodes with electrically active polymers was suggested. Description:    Electrosorption of manganese dioxide on an electrochemically activated carbon fiber nonwoven electrode was studied as influenced by the current density, solution flow-through rate, and concentration of the MnO(OH) 2 colloid solution. It was found that manganese hydroxide can be deposited onto electrochemically activated fibers of fibrous carbon materials by different methods: (1) electrosorption of MnO(OH) 2 from its colloid solution, (2) synthesis of MnO(OH) 2 directly on the fibrous carbon material sample, and (3) impregnation with an MnO(OH) 2 colloid solution. Description:    The development and optimization of processes involving polymeric molecules require determination and monitoring of key molecular characteristics of the polymer. Samples of poly- N -methyl- N -vinylacetamide were synthesized and fractionated. Partial hydrolysis of the homopolymer fractions was performed, and fractions of a random copolymer of N -methyl- N -vinylacetamide and N -methyl- N -vinylamine hydrochloride were obtained. The molecular weights and conformational parameters of the homo- and copolymers in 0.2 M aqueous NaCl were determined by methods of molecular hydrodynamics. The causes of compositional heterogeneity were found based on solution of an inverse problem of formation of the molecular weight distribution. It was shown that the pre-hydrodynamic effects in a turbulent reactor at the stage of the reaction mixture formation allowed the synthesis of more uniform composition of the copolymer.
