Beschreibung: Here we propose a novel scheme in which depolarized or unpolarized light can respond to polarization-dependent optical elements such as an input-polarization-dependent wavelength-selective filter. An optical apparatus for realizing the proposed scheme consists of a polarization beam splitter, two Faraday rotators, and four waveplates. By harnessing the polarization decomposition/superposition property of a polarization-diversity loop and the irreciprocity of optical Faraday rotation, we could make unpolarized light selectively excite one of the two principal axes of a polarization-dependent element like polarized one while maintaining the unpolarized nature. The principle of operation of this apparatus was theoretically analyzed through the investigation of the polarization variation of light passing through the optical elements comprising it. Then, its polarization-selective feature was experimentally verified by employing a long-period fiber grating inscribed on polarization-maintaining fiber, which had polarization-dependent spectral dips with different resonance wavelengths, as a polarization-dependent element in the polarization-diversity loop. One of the two spectrally separated resonances of the grating could be freely chosen through the proper control of the waveplates in the apparatus.

Beschreibung: A spectral optoelectronic system combining a collinear acousto-optic cell fabricated of calcium molybdate single crystal and a positive electronic feedback is proposed first and examined theoretically and experimentally. The feedback signal is formed at the cell output due to the optical heterodyning effect with the use of an unconventional regime of cell operation. It is shown that the feedback enables controlling spectral characteristics of the acousto-optic cell, resulting in enhancing the spectral resolution and the accuracy of optical wavelength determination. In the experiment, maximal filter passband narrowing was as great as 37 times.

Beschreibung: The quantum mechanical propagator of a massive particle in a linear gravitational potential derived already in 1927 by Kennard [ 2 , 3 ] contains a phase that scales with the third power of the time T during which the particle experiences the corresponding force. Since in conventional atom interferometers the internal atomic states are all exposed to the same acceleration a , this \(T^3\) -phase cancels out and the interferometer phase scales as \(T^2\) . In contrast, by applying an external magnetic field we prepare two different accelerations \(a_1\) and \(a_2\) for two internal states of the atom, which translate themselves into two different cubic phases and the resulting interferometer phase scales as \(T^3\) . We present the theoretical background for, and summarize our progress towards experimentally realizing such a novel atom interferometer.

Beschreibung: We propose a new laser mode locking state in which the pulse disperses quickly and then revives after a certain time. This mechanism is based on the temporal Talbot effect and requires a large amount of intra-cavity group velocity dispersion. Similar to the usual mode locking it should be possible to employ the Kerr effect to force the laser into this mode, even when the cold cavity dispersion is not exactly matched. We show that the mode spectrum of such a laser is not equidistant but increases linearly with very high precision. This Talbot frequency comb can be self referenced. The beating with the adjacent modes uniquely defines the optical mode frequency, which means that the optical spectrum is directly mapped into the radio frequency domain. This is similar to the dual frequency comb technique, albeit without the limiting relative jitter between two combs.

Beschreibung: . Dissipation can be represented in Hamiltonian mechanics in an extended phase space as a symplectic process. The method uses an auxiliary variable which represents the excitation of unresolved dynamics and a Hamiltonian for the interaction between the resolved dynamics and the auxiliary variable. This method is applied to viscous dissipation (including hyper-viscosity) in a two-dimensional fluid, for which the dynamics is non-canonical. We derive a metriplectic representation and suggest a measure for the entropy of the system.

Beschreibung: . According to the Special Theory of Relativity, there should be no resting frame in our universe. Such an assumption, however, could be in conflict with the Standard Model of cosmology today, which regards the vacuum not as an empty space. Thus, there is a strong need to experimentally test whether there is a resting frame in our universe or not. We propose that this can be done by precisely measuring the masses of two charged particles moving in opposite directions. If all inertial frames are equivalent, there should be no detectable mass difference between these two particles. If there is a resting frame in the universe, one will observe a mass difference that is dependent on the orientation of the laboratory frame. The detailed experimental setup is discussed in this paper.

Beschreibung: . The scattering of the position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation due to both single Dirac delta and double Dirac delta potentials has been investigated. We have obtained the reflection as well as transmission coefficients and current density for both potentials. Moreover, we have studied the Ramsauer-Townsend effect with the position-dependent mass in quantum mechanics.

Beschreibung: . In this paper, we analyze the dynamic behavior of the ill-posed Boussinesq equation (IPBE) that arises in nonlinear lattices and also in shallow water waves. Some solitary wave solutions are obtained by using the solitary wave ansatz method and the Bernoulli sub-Ode. By applying the technique of nonlinear self-adjoint, a quasi self-adjoint substitution for the IPBE is constructed. The classical symmetries of the equation are constructed. Then, we used along with the obtained nonlinear self-adjoint substitution to construct a set of new conservation laws (Cls).

Beschreibung: . In the present paper, the quantum corrections to the temperature, entropy and specific heat capacity of the charged non-rotating BTZ black hole are studied by the generalized uncertainty principle in the tunneling formalism. It is shown that quantum corrected entropy would be of the form of predicted entropy in quantum gravity theories like string theory and loop quantum gravity.
