Description: In the molecular structure of the title compound, C20H21N3O7, the quinoline ring system is slightly bent, with a dihedral angle between the phenyl and the pyridine rings of 3.47 (7)°. In the crystal, corrugated layers of molecules extending along the ab plane are generated by C—H...O hydrogen bonds. The intermolecular interactions were quantified by Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots. The most significant contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (42.3%), H...O/O...H (34.5%) and H...C/ C...H (17.6%) contacts. Molecular orbital calculations providing electron-density plots of the HOMO and LUMO as well as molecular electrostatic potentials (MEP) were computed, both with the DFT/B3LYP/6–311 G++(d,p) basis set. A molecular docking study between the title molecule and the COVID-19 main protease (PDB ID: 6LU7) was performed, showing that it is a good agent because of its affinity and ability to adhere to the active sites of the protein.

Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the packing arrangement are from H...H and C...H/H...C interactions.

Description: At 100 K, the title compound, C13H12N2O2, crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pna21 with two very similar molecules in the asymmetric unit. An intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond leads to an S(6) graph-set motif in each of the molecules. Intermolecular π–π stacking and C=O...π interactions involving the aldehyde O atoms link molecules into stacks parallel to [100]. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing stem from H...H (49.4%) and H...O/O...H (21.5%) interactions. Energy framework calculations reveal a significant contribution of dispersion energy. The crystal studied was refined as a two-component inversion twin.

Description: Co-crystallization from methanol of 3-amino-1H-pyrazole with 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid produces 3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium 3,5-dinitrobenzoate monohydrate, C3H6N3 +·C7H3N2O6 −·H2O, (I), while similar co-crystallization of this pyrazole with an equimolar quantity of fumaric acid produces bis(3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium) fumarate–fumaric acid (1/1), 2C3H6N3 +·C4H2O4 2−·C4H4O4, (II). The reaction of 3-amino-1H-pyrazole with a dilute solution of nitric acid in methanol yields a second, orthorhombic polymorph of 3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium nitrate, C3H6N3 +·NO3 −, (III). In each of (I)–(III), the bond distances in the cation provide evidence for extensive delocalization of the positive charge. In each of (I) and (II), an extensive series of O—H...O and N—H...O hydrogen bonds links the components into complex sheets, while in the structure of (III), the ions are linked by multiple N—H...O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional arrangement. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Description: The structure of tris(ethane-1,2-diamine-κ2 N,N')cobalt(III) bis(iodide) triiodide, [Co(C2H8N2)3]I3(I)2, at 120 K has orthorhombic (P212121) symmetry. The diamine nitrogen atoms form N—H...I hydrogen bonds throughout the lattice, resulting in a three-dimensional network, which involves the iodide and all atoms in the triiodide anions.

Description: The crystal structure of the title complex, cis-[Cr(NCS)2(cyclam)]Br (cyclam = 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane, C10H24N4), has been determined from synchrotron X-ray data. The asymmetric unit contains one [Cr(NCS)2(cyclam)]+ cation and one bromide anion. The CrIII ion of the complex cation is coordinated by the four N atoms of the cyclam ligand and by two N-coordinating NCS groups in a cis arrangement, displaying a distorted octahedral coordination sphere. The Cr—N(cyclam) bond lengths are in the range 2.075 (3) to 2.081 (3) Å while the average Cr—N(NCS) bond length is 1.996 (16) Å. The macrocyclic cyclam moiety adopts the most stable cis-V conformation. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonds involving the cyclam N—H groups as donor groups, and the bromide anion and the S atom of one of the NCS ligands as acceptor groups.

Description: The title IrIII complex, [Ir(C11H8N)2Cl(C25H22P2)], was synthesized from the substitution reaction between the (ppy)2Ir(μ-Cl)2Ir(ppy)2 (ppy = deprotonated 2-phenylpyridine, C11H8N−) dimer and 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)methane (dppm, C25H22P2) under an argon gas atmosphere for 20 h. The IrIII atom is coordinated by two C,N-bidentate ppy anions, a unidentate dppm ligand and a chloride anion in a distorted octahedral IrC2N2PCl arrangement. The N donor atoms of the ppy ligands are mutually trans while the C atoms are cis. Intramolecular aromatic π–π stacking between the phenyl rings of ppy and dppm, and C—H...Cl interactions are observed. In the crystal, C—H...Cl and C—H...π contacts link the molecules into a three-dimensional network. A Hirshfeld surface analysis was carried out to further quantify the intermolecular interactions, and indicated that H...H contacts (63.9%) dominate the packing.

Description: In the title molecular salt, C26H24N3S+·Br−, the dihedral angles between the thiazole ring and its attached phenyl and benzoyl rings are 54.81 (7) and 85.51 (7)°, respectively. In the crystal, ion pairs are linked by C—H...Br and N—H...Br hydrogen bonds and are connected into helical chains extending along the c-axis direction by weak, electrostatic S...Br− interactions. A Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed, which showed the dominant role of H...H contacts (51.3%).

Description: New syntheses have been developed for the synthesis of (borohydrido-κ3 H)tris[η5-(trimethylsilyl)cyclopentadienyl]uranium(IV), [U(BH4)(C8H13Si)3] or Cp′3U(BH4) (Cp′ = C5H4SiMe3) and its structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. This compound crystallized in the space group Poverline{1} and the structure features three η 5-coordinated Cp′ rings and a κ 3-coordinated (BH4)− ligand.

Description: The reaction of Co(NCS)2 with 3-(aminomethyl)pyridine as coligand leads to the formation of crystals of the title compound, [Co(NCS)2(C6H8N2)2] n , that were characterized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. In the crystal structure, the CoII cations are octahedrally coordinated by two terminal N-bonded thiocyanate anions as well as two pyridine and two amino N atoms of four symmetry-equivalent 3-(aminomethyl)pyridine coligands with all pairs of equivalent atoms in a trans position. The CoII cations are linked by the 3-(aminomethyl)pyridine coligands into layers parallel to the ac plane. These layers are further linked by intermolecular N—H...S hydrogen bonding into a three-dimensional network. The purity of the title compound was determined by X-ray powder diffraction and its thermal behavior was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry.

Description: In the title molecular salt, (C6H16N2)[CoCl4], the complete dication is generated by crystallographic inversion symmetry and the piperazine ring adopts a chair conformation with the pendant methyl groups in equatorial orientations. The complete dianion is generated by crystallographic twofold symmetry. In the crystal, the (C6H16N2)2+ and [CoCl4]2− ions are linked by N—H...Cl and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, thereby forming a two-dimensional supramolecular network. The Hirshfeld surface analysis and fingerprint plots reveal that the largest contributions to the crystal stability come from H...Cl/Cl...H (68.4%) and H...H (27.4%) contacts.

In II A, three carbon atoms of the cyclohexene ring are disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.670 (11):0.330 (11) occupancy ratio. In the crystal of I, molecules are linked through classical N—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with an R 2 2(8) ring motif and with their molecular planes parallel to the crystallographic (020) plane. Non-classical C—H...O hydrogen-bonding interactions connect the dimers, resulting in a three-dimensional network. In the crystal of II, molecules are linked by C—H...N, C—H...O and C—H...π interactions, forming a three-dimensional network.

Description: The crystal structures of three intermediate compounds in the synthesis of 8-bromo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,3,3-trimethyldipyrrin are reported; 4-bromo-2-formyl-1-tosyl-1H-pyrrole, C12H10BrNO3S, (E)-4-bromo-2-(2-nitrovinyl)-1-tosyl-1H-pyrrole, C13H11BrN2O4S, and 6-(4-bromo-1-tosylpyrrol-2-yl)-4,4-dimethyl-5-nitrohexan-2-one, C19H23BrN2O5S. The compounds show multitudinous intermolecular C—H...O interactions, with bond distances and angle consistent in the series and within expectations, as well as varied packing types. The merits of collecting data beyond the standard resolution usually reported for small molecules are discussed.

Description: In the title compound, C24H20ClNO2, the mean planes of 4-chlorophenyl, 2-methylphenyl and phenylene rings make dihedral angles of 62.8 (2), 65.1 (3) and 15.1 (2)°, respectively, with the 5-methyl-1,2-oxazole ring. In the crystal, molecules are linked by intermolecular C—H...N, C—H...Cl, C—H...π contacts and π–π stacking interactions between the phenylene groups. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (48.7%), H...C/C...H (22.2%), Cl...H/H...Cl (8.8%), H...O/O...H (8.2%) and H...N/N...H (5.1%) interactions.

Description: Cycloaddition reactions between 3-(5-aryloxy-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1-(thiophen-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-ones and thiosemicarbazide leads to the formation of reduced 3,4′-bipyrazole-2-carbothioamides. Further cycloaddition of these intermediates with either diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate or 4-bromophenacyl bromide leads to reduced 3,4′-bipyrazoles carrying oxothiazole or thiazole substituents, respectively. The structures of two representative intermediates and two representative products established unambiguously the regiochemistry of the cycloaddition reactions. The molecules of 3′-methyl-5′-(2-methylphenoxy)-1′-phenyl-5-(thiophen-2-yl)-3,4-dihydro-1′H,2H-3,4′-bipyrazole-2-carbothioamide, C25H23N5OS2 (Ia), are linked by N—H...N hydrogen bonds to form simple C(8) chains. The analogous compound 5′-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-3′-methyl-1′-phenyl-5-(thiophen-2-yl)-3,4-dihydro-1′H,2H-3,4′-bipyrazole-2-carbothioamide hemihydrate crystallizes as a hemihydrate, C24H19Cl2N5OS2·0.5H2O (Ib), and the independent components are linked into a chain of spiro-fused R 4 4(20) rings by a combination of O—H...N and N—H...O hydrogen bonds. In the structure of ethyl (Z)-2-{2-[3′-methyl-1′-phenyl-5-(thiophen-2-yl)-5′-(2-methylphenoxy)-3,4-dihydro-1′H,2H-3,4′-bipyrazole-2-yl]-4-oxo-4,5-dihydrothiazol-5-ylidene}acetate, C31H27N5O4S2 (II), inversion-related pairs of molecules are linked by paired C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds to form cyclic centrosymmetric dimers, but there are no direction-specific intermolecular interactions in 4-(4-bromophenyl)-2-[5′-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-3′-methyl-1′-phenyl-5-(thiophen-2-yl)-3,4-dihydro-1′H,2H-3,4′-bipyrazole-2-yl]-4-thiazole, C32H22BrCl2N5OS2 (III). Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Description: The title compound, C9H7NO2S crystallizes with two independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit with Z = 8. Both molecules are almost planar with a dihedral angle between the isoxazole and thiophen rings of 3.67 (2)° in molecule A and 10.00 (1) ° in molecule B. The packing of molecules A and B is of an ABAB... type along the b-axis direction, the configuration about the C=C bond is Z. In the crystal, the presence of C—H...O, C—H... N and π–π interactions [centroid–centroid distances of 3.701 (2) and 3.766 (2) Å] link the molecules into a three-dimensional architecture. An analysis of Hirshfeld surfaces shows the importance of C—H...O and C—H...N hydrogen bonds in the packing mechanism of the crystalline structure.

Description: Bedaquiline is one of two important new drugs for the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB). It is marketed in the US as its fumarate salt, but only a few salts of bedaquiline have been structurally described so far. We present here five crystal structures of bedaquilinium maleate {systematic name: [4-(6-bromo-2-methoxyquinolin-3-yl)-3-hydroxy-3-(naphthalen-1-yl)-4-phenylbutyl]dimethylazanium 3-carboxyprop-2-enoate}, C32H32BrN2O2 +·C4H3O4 −, namely, a hemihydrate, a tetrahydrofuran (THF) solvate, a mixed acetone/hexane solvate, an ethyl acetate solvate, and a solvate-free structure obtained from the acetone/hexane solvate by in situ single-crystal-to-single-crystal desolvation. All salts exhibit a 1:1 cation-to-anion ratio, with the anion present as monoanionic hydromaleate and a singly protonated bedaquilinium cation. The maleate exhibits the strong intramolecular hydrogen bond typical for cis-dicarboxylic acid anions. The conformations of the cations and packing interactions in the maleate salts are compared to those of free base bedaquiline and other bedaquilinium salts.

Description: Pigment Red 52, Na2[C18H11ClN2O6S], is an industrially produced hydrazone-laked pigment. It serves as an intermediate in the synthesis of the corresponding Ca2+ and Mn2+ salts, which are used commercially for printing inks and lacquers. Hitherto, no crystal structure of any salt of Pigment Red 52 is known. Now, single crystals have been obtained of a dimethyl sulfoxide solvate hydrate of the monosodium salt of Pigment Red 52, namely, monosodium 2-[2-(3-carboxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydronaphthalen-1-ylidene)hydrazin-1-yl]-5-chloro-4-methylbenzenesulfonate dimethyl sulfoxide monosolvate monohydrate, Na+·C18H12ClN2O6S−·H2O·C2H6OS, obtained from in-house synthesized Pigment Red 52. The crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction at 173 K. In this monosodium salt, the SO3 − group is deprotonated, whereas the COOH group is protonated. The residues form chains via ionic interactions and hydrogen bonds. The chains are arranged in polar/non-polar double layers.

Description: The reaction of copper(II) sulfatepentahydrate with 2-nitrobenzoic acid and N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine (TMEDA) in basic solution produces the complex bis(2-nitrobenzoato-κO)(N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine-κ2 N,N′)copper(II), [Cu(C7H4NO4)2(C6H16N2)] or [Cu(2-nitrobenzoate)2(tmeda)]. Each carboxylate group of the 2-nitrobenzoate ligand is coordinated by CuII atom in a monodentate fashion and two TMEDA ligand nitrogen atoms are coordinate by the metal center, giving rise to a distorted square-planar coordination environment. In the crystal, metal complexes are linked by centrosymmetric C—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming ribbons via a R 2 2(10) ring motif. These ribbons are linked by further C—H...O hydrogen bonds, leading to two-dimensional hydrogen-bonded arrays parallel to the bc plane. Weak π–π stacking interactions provide additional stabilization of the crystal structure. Hirshfeld surface analysis, dnorm and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were examined to verify the contributions of the different intermolecular contacts within the supramolecular structure. The major interactions of the complex are O...H/H...O (44.9%), H...H (34%) and C...H (14.5%).

Description: The title compound, C5D6ClN2O+·Cl−, crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group, Pbcm, and consists of a 4-chloro-2-methyl-6-oxo-3,6-dihydropyrimidin-1-ium cation and a chloride anion where both moieties lie on a crystallographic mirror. The cation is disordered and was refined as two equivalent forms with occupancies of 0.750 (4)/0.250 (4), while the chloride anion is triply disordered with occupancies of 0.774 (12), 0.12 (2), and 0.11 (2). Unusually, the bond angles around the C=O unit range from 127.2 (6) to 115.2 (3)° and similar angles have been found in other structures containing a 6-oxo-3,6-dihydropyrimidin-1-ium cation, including the monclinic polymorph of the title compound, which crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c [Kawai et al. (1973). Cryst. Struct. Comm. 2, 663–666]. The cations and anions pack into sheets in the ab plane linked by N—H...Cl hydrogen bonds as well as C—H...O and Cl...O interactions. In graph-set notation, these form R 3 3(11) and R 3 2(9) rings. Theoretical calculations seem to indicate that the reason for the unusual angles at the sp 2 C is the electrostatic interaction between the oxygen atom and the adjacent N—H hydrogen.

Description: The quaternary A 2W3SeO12 (A = NH4, Cs, Rb, K or Tl) selenites have been prepared in the form of single crystals by hydrothermal and novel solid-state reactions. They were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermal and spectroscopic studies. All of them have a hexagonal tungsten oxide (HTO) related [W3SeO12]2− anionic framework with pyramidally coordinated Se4+ ions. The known A 2W3SeO12 (A = NH4, Cs or Rb) compounds are isostructural with the Cs2W3TeO12 compound and have a non-centrosymmetric layered structure containing intra-layer Se—O bonds. The new compound K2W3SeO12(α) is isostructural with the K2W3TeO12 compound and has a centrosymmetric three-dimensional structure containing interlayer Se—O bonds. It is inferred that the new Tl2W3SeO12 compound has the same three-dimensional structure as K2W3SeO12(α).

Description: The title compound, bis(N,N-diallyl-5-methoxytryptammonium) (5-MeO-DALT) fumarate (systematic name: bis{N-[2-(5-methoxy-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]- N-(prop-2-en-1-yl)prop-2-en-1-aminium} (E)-but-2-enedioate), 2C17H23N2O+·C4H2O4 2−, has a single tryptammonium cation and half of a fumarate dianion in the asymmetric unit. The tryptammonium and fumarate ions are held together in one-dimensional chains by a series of N—H...O hydrogen bonds. These chains are combinations of R 4 4(22) rings, and C 2 2(14) and C 4 4(28) parallel chains along [111].

Description: In the title molecule, C13H13N3O, the isoxazole ring is inclined to the benzimidazole ring at a dihedral angle of 69.28 (14)°. In the crystal, N—H...N hydrogen bonds between neighboring benzimidazole rings form chains along the a-axis direction. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (48.8%), H...C/C...H (20.9%) and H...N/N...H (19.3%) interactions. The optimized structure calculated using density functional theory at the B3LYP/6–311 G(d,p) level is compared with the experimentally determined structure in the solid state. The calculated highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy gap is 4.9266 eV.

Description: Di-tert-butyl N,N′-{[13,15,28,30,31,33-hexaethyl-3,10,18,25,32,34-hexaazapentacyclo[25.3.1.15,8.112,16.120,23]tetratriaconta-1(31),3,5,7,9,12(33),13,15,18,20,22,24,27,29-tetradecaene-14,29-diyl]bis(methylene)}dicarbamate methanol disolvate, C52H72N8O4·2CH3OH, was found to crystallize in the space group P21/c with one half of the macrocycle (host) and one molecule of solvent (guest) in the asymmetric unit of the cell, i.e. the host molecule is located on a crystallographic symmetry center. Within the 1:2 host–guest complex, the solvent molecules are accommodated in the host cavity and held in their positions by O—H...N and N—H...O bonds, thus forming ring synthons of graph set R 2 2(7). The connection of the 1:2 host-guest complexes is accomplished by C—H...O, C—H...N and C—H...π interactions, which create a three-dimensional supramolecular network.

Description: In the title compound, C27H33NO5, a 3,3,6,6-tetramethyltetrahydroacridine-1,8-dione ring system carries an ethyl acetate substituent on the acridine N atom and an o-hydroxyphenyl ring on the central methine C atom of the dihydropyridine ring. The benzene ring is inclined to the acridine ring system at an angle of 80.45 (7)° and this conformation is stabilized by an intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond between the hydroxy substituent on the benzene ring and one of the carbonyl groups of the acridinedione unit. The ester C=O oxygen atom is disordered over major and minor orientations in a 0.777 (9):0.223 (9) ratio and the terminal –CH3 unit of the ethyl side chain is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.725 (5): 0.275 (5) ratio. In the crystal, C—H...O hydrogen bonds combine to link the molecules into a three-dimensional network. van der Waals H...H contacts contribute the most to the Hirshfeld surface (66.9%) followed by O...H/H...O (22.1%) contacts associated with weak hydrogen bonds.

Description: The title compound, C24H24N2O5S, crystallizes with two independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. In the central ring systems of both molecules, the tetrahydrofuran rings adopt envelope conformations, the pyrrolidine rings adopt a twisted-envelope conformation and the six-membered ring is in a boat conformation. In molecules A and B, the nine-membered groups attached to the central ring system are essentially planar (r.m.s. deviations of 0.002 and 0.003 Å, respectively). They form dihedral angles of 64.97 (9) and 56.06 (10)°, respectively, with the phenyl rings. In the crystal, strong intermolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds and weak intermolecular C—H...O contacts link the molecules, forming a three-dimensional network. In addition weak π–π stacking interactions [centroid-to centroid distance = 3.7124 (13) Å] between the pyrrolidine rings of the nine-membered groups of A molecules are observed. Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots were used to quantify the intermolecular interactions present in the crystal, indicating that the environments of the two molecules are very similar. The most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H...H (55.8% for molecule A and 53.5% for molecule B), O...H/H...O (24.5% for molecule A and 26.3% for molecule B) and C...H/H...C (12.6% for molecule A and 15.7% for molecule B) interactions.

Description: A nickel(II) terephthalate complex, viz. [Ni(C6H4N2)2(H2O)4](O2CC6H4CO2)·4H2O, has been synthesized and studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The supramolecular structure of the compound is stabilized by a three-dimensional array of O—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds, along with π–π stacked pyridine-3-carbonitrile rings and C—H...O interactions.

Description: In the title molecule, C16H14N2O, the dihydroquinoxaline moiety is not planar as there is a dihedral angle of 4.51 (5)° between the constituent rings. In the crystal, C—H...O hydrogen bonds form helical chains about the crystallographic 21 screw axis in the b-axis direction. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (51.7%), H...C/C...H (26%) and H...O/O...H (8.5%) interactions. The optimized structure calculated using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/6–311 G(d,p) level is compared with the experimentally determined structure in the solid state. The calculated HOMO–LUMO energy gap is 3.8918 eV.

Description: The title pyridazinone derivative, C19H14Cl2N2O, an important pharmacophore with a wide variety of biological applications is not planar, the chlorophenyl and pyridazinone rings being almost perpendicular, subtending a dihedral angle of 85.73 (11)°. The phenyl ring of the styryl group is coplanar with the pyridazinone ring [1.47 (12)°]. In the crystal, N—H...O hydrogen bonds form inversion dimers with an R 2 2(8) ring motif and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds also occur. The roles of the intermolecular interactions in the crystal packing were clarified using Hirshfeld surface analysis, and two-dimensional fingerprint plots indicate that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (37.9%), C...H/H...C (18.7%), Cl...H/ H...Cl (16.4%) and Cl...C/C...Cl (6.7%) contacts.

Description: Reduction of bicyclo[3.3.0]octane-3,7-dione yields a mixture of the endo-3,endo-7-diol and endo-3, exo-7-diol (C8H14O2) isomers (5 and 6). These form (5)2·(6) co-crystals in the monoclinic P21/n space group (with Z = 6, Z′ = 1.5) rather than undergoing separation by means of fractional recrystallization or column chromatography. The molecule of 5 occupies a general position, whereas the molecule of 6 is disordered over two orientations across a centre of symmetry with occupancies of 0.463 (2) and 0.037 (2). Individual diol hydroxy groups associate around a pseudo-threefold screw axis by means of hydrogen bonding. The second hydroxy group of each diol behaves in a similar manner, generating a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network structure. This hydrogen-bond connectivity is identical to that present in three known helical tubuland diol–hydroquinone co-crystals, and the new crystal structure is even more similar to two homologous aliphatic diol co-crystals.

[Cu(bpy)2(NO3)](NO3) was mixed with ascorbic acid and Dabco (1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane) in DMF (dimethylformamide) solution in the presence of air to produce the title compound. The structure consists of square-pyramidal complexes that are joined by Cu...O contacts [2.703 (2) Å] into centrosymmetric dimers. The C4H4O6 2− ligand, which occupies three coordination sites at Cu, has previously been identified as an oxidation product of ascorbate ion.

Description: The title heterocyclic compound, C20H27N, has been prepared in good yield (72%) via a BiCl3-catalyzed cationic Povarov reaction between N-propargyl-4-methylaniline and (±)-citronellal. The X-ray single-crystal study indicates that the structure consists of molecules connected by C—H...π contacts to produce chains, which pack in a sandwich–herringbone fashion along the b-axis direction. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that H...H interactions dominate by contributing 79.1% to the total surface. Energy frameworks and DFT calculations indicate a major contribution of dispersive forces to the total interaction energy.

Description: The conformation about the central benzene ring in the molecule of (I), C20H19N3O2, is partially determined by an intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond. In the crystal, chains parallel to the c axis are generated by intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds with the chains assembled into a three-dimensional network structure by intermolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds and C—H...π(ring) interactions. The molecule of (II), C22H21N3O, differs from (I) only in the substituent at the hydrazide N atom where a phenylmethylene moiety for (II) is present instead of a furanmethylene moiety for (I). Hence, molecules of (I) and (II) show similarities in their molecular and crystal structures. The conformation of the central portion of the molecule of (II) is also therefore partially determined by an intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond and intermolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonds form chains parallel to the c axis. Likewise, the chains are connected into a three-dimensional network by C—H...O hydrogen bonds and C—H...π(ring) interactions.

The BaO9 and BaO10 coordination polyhedra share edges and corners to form a three-dimensional network. All of the active hydrogen atoms act as donors in O—H...O hydrogen bonds. Most of the acceptors are carboxylate oxygen atoms, but there are also water...water hydrogen bonds. Both of the citrate hydroxyl groups form intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bonds to terminal carboxyl groups.

Description: In the title compound, C15H15Br2NO2, two bridged tetrahydrofuran rings adopt envelope conformations with the O atom as the flap. The pyrrolidine ring also adopts an envelope conformation with the spiro C atom as the flap. In the crystal, the molecules are linked into dimers by pairs of C—H...O hydrogen bonds, thus generating R 2 2(18) rings. The crystal packing is dominated by H...H, Br...H, H...π and Br...π interactions. One of the Br atoms is disordered over two sites with occupation ratio of 0.833 (8):0.167 (8).

The Ca atoms are located on centers of inversion. Each Ca is surrounded by four 1-methylpyrrolidin-2-one (NMP) ligands and coordinated through one of the two O atoms to two (E)-1,1′-dimethyl-2,2′-dioxo-1,1′,2,2′-tetrahydro-[3,3′-bipyrrolylidene]-5,5′-bis(thiolate), [C10H8N2O2S2]2−, dianions (abbreviation: DMTBT). This dianion thus facilitates the formation of a 1-D polymer, which propagates in the [011] direction. These ribbons are linked by intermolecular C—H...S interactions. Each Ca atom is in an octahedral CaO6 six-coordinate environment with Ca—O bond lengths ranging from 2.308 (6) to 2.341 (6) Å, cis bond angles ranging from 88.2 (2) to 91.8 (2)° and the trans angles all 180° due to the Ca atoms being located on centers of inversion. Theoretical calculations were carried out using density functional theory (DFT) and the results showed that although the central DMTBT dianion is planar there is likely some resonance across the central bond between both azapentyl rings, but this is not sufficient to establish a ring current. The calculated UV–vis spectrum shows a peak at 625 nm, which accounts for the deep blue–purple color of solutions of the complex.

Description: The structure of the natural product lawinal [systematic name: (−)-(2S)-5,7-dihydroxy-6-methyl-4-oxo-2-phenylchromane-8-carbaldehyde, C17H14O5] at 150 K is reported. The compound crystallizes with monoclinic (I2) symmetry and with Z′ = 2. The absolute configuration could not be determined reliably from X-ray analysis only. However, our analysis returns the S-configuration at the C-2 position, consistent with previous stereochemical assignment from specific rotation. The independent molecules form into alternating hydrogen-bonded chains with C—H...O=CH intermolecular linkages that run parallel to the crystallographic a axis and are extended into the ac plane by π–π interactions between their phenyl substituents.

Description: The title ketenylidene, [Au3(C2O)(C26H35O2P)3](C2F6NO4S2), was obtained upon exposure of [2-(dicyclohexylphosphino)-2′,6′-dimethoxy-1,1′-biphenyl]gold(I) bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide to acetic anhydride at elevated temperature. The ketenylidene bridge caps the tri-gold cluster. The title compound has provided crystals that upon analysis represent the first tri-gold ketenylidene with atomic distances indicative of bonding interaction between the gold atoms.

Description: The title compounds 3a, C14H13N5OS, and 3b, C13H12N6OS, both show an E configuration about the N=C bond and a planar NH2 group. The molecules, which only differ in the presence of a phenyl (in 3a) or pyridyl (in 3b) substituent, are closely similar except for the different orientations of these groups. The amino hydrogen atoms form classical hydrogen bonds; in 3a the acceptors are the oxygen atom and the cyano nitrogen atom, leading to ribbons of molecules parallel to the b axis, whereas in 3b the acceptors are the oxygen atom and the pyridyl nitrogen, leading to a layer structure perpendicular to (overline{1}01).

The geometry around the central molybdenum is slightly distorted octahedral and the facial isomer is found exclusively. The packing within the crystal is stabilized by three-dimensional non-classical intermolecular hydrogen-bonding contacts between individual methyl substituents of dimethyl sulfoxide and the oxygen atoms of either another dimethyl sulfoxide or a carbonyl ligand on adjacent complex molecules. The observed bond lengths in the carbonyl ligands and between carbonyl carbon atoms and molybdenum are correlated to the observed FT–IR bands for the carbonyl stretches and compared to respective metrical parameters of related complexes.

Description: The crystal structure of the novel hydrated CuII salt, [Cu(L)(H2O)2]Cl2·4H2O (L = 3,14-diethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[16.4.0.07,12]docosane, C22H44N4) has been determined using synchrotron radiation. The asymmetric unit contains one half of the [Cu(L)(H2O)2]2+ cation (completed by crystallographic inversion symmetry), one chloride anion and two lattice water molecules. The copper(II) atom exists in a tetragonally distorted octahedral environment with the four N atoms of the macrocyclic ligand in equatorial and two O atoms from water molecules in axial positions. The latter exhibit a long axial Cu—O bond length of 2.7866 (16) Å due to the Jahn–Teller distortion. The macrocyclic ring adopts a stable trans-III conformation with typical Cu—N bond lengths of 2.0240 (11) and 2.0441 (3) Å. The complex is stabilized by hydrogen bonds formed between the O atoms of coordinated water molecules and the NH groups as donors, and chloride anions as acceptors. The chloride anions are further connected to the lattice water solvent molecules through O—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, giving rise to a three-dimensional network structure.

Description: Single crystals of Zn2(HTeO3)(AsO4), dizinc(II) hydroxidodioxidotellurate(IV) oxidoarsenate(V), were obtained as one of the by-products in a hydrothermal reaction between Zn(NO3)2·6H2O, TeO2, H3AsO4 and NH3 in molar ratios of 2:1:2:10 at 483 K for seven days. The asymmetric unit of Zn2(HTeO3)(AsO4) contains one Te (site symmetry m), one As (m), one Zn (1), five O (three m, two 1) and one H (m) site. The ZnII atom exhibits a coordination number of 5 and is coordinated by four oxygen atoms and a hydroxide group, forming a distorted trigonal bipyramid. The hydroxide ion is positioned at a significantly larger distance on one of the axial positions of the bipyramid. The [ZnO4OH] polyhedra are connected to each other by corner-sharing to form ∞ 2[ZnO3/2(OH)1/2O1/1] layers extending parallel to (001). The TeIV atom is coordinated by three oxygen atoms and a hydroxide group in a one-sided manner in the shape of a bisphenoid, revealing stereochemical activity of its 5s 2 electron lone pair. The AsV atom is coordinated by four oxygen atoms to form the tetrahedral oxidoarsenate(V) anion. By corner-sharing, [TeO3OH] and [AsO4] groups link adjacent ∞ 2[ZnO3/2(OH)1/2O1/1] layers along [001] into a three-dimensional framework structure.

Description: The title compound, C17H19NO4, was synthesized by the reaction of 7-(diethylamino)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid with allyl bromide and purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel. Crystals suitable for single-crystal X-ray diffraction were obtained by recrystallization from acetone. The aromatic core of the molecule is not planar with the diethylamino group and with the carboxyl group that are rotated out of the 2-oxo-2H-chromene plane by 6.7 (2)° and 11.4 (2)°. The NC2 unit of the diethylamino group is planar with an angle sum close to 360°. Intermolecular Car—H...Ocarbonyl interactions lead to the formation of chains parallel to the b axis. X-ray powder diffraction analysis proves that the title compound was obtained as a pure phase.

Description: The title hydrated copper(I)–L-cysteine–chloride complex has a polymeric structure of composition {[Cu16(CysH2)6Cl16]·xH2O} n [CysH2 = HO2CCH(NH3 +)CH2S− or C3H7NO2S], namely, poly[[tetra-μ3-chlorido-deca-μ2-chlorido-dichloridohexakis(μ4-L-cysteinato)hexadecacopper] polyhydrate]. The copper atoms are linked by thiolate groups to form Cu12S6 nanoclusters that take the form of a tetrakis cuboctahedron, made up of a Cu12 cubo-octahedral subunit that is augmented by six sulfur atoms that are located symmetrically atop of each of the Cu4 square units of the Cu12 cubo-octahedron. The six S atoms thus form an octahedral subunit themselves. The exterior of the Cu12S6 sphere is decorated by chloride ions and trichlorocuprate units. Three chloride ions are coordinated in an irregular fashion to trigonal Cu3 subunits of the nanocluster, and four trigonal CuCl3 units are bonded via each of their chloride ions to a copper ion on the Cu12S6 sphere. The trigonal CuCl3 units are linked via Cu2Cl2 bridges covalently connected to equivalent units in neighboring nanoclusters. Four such connections are arranged in a tetrahedral fashion, thus creating an infinite diamond-like net of Cu12S6Cl4(CuCl3)4 nanoclusters. The network thus formed results in large channels occupied by solvent molecules that are mostly too ill-defined to model. The content of the voids, believed to be water molecules, was accounted for via reverse Fourier-transform methods using the SQUEEZE algorithm [Spek (2015). Acta Cryst. C71, 9–18]. The protonated amino groups of the cysteine ligands are directed away from the sphere, forming N—H...Cl hydrogen bonds with chloride-ion acceptors of their cluster. The protonated carboxy groups point outwards and presumably form O—H...O hydrogen bonds with the unresolved water molecules of the solvent channels. Disorder is observed in one of the two crystallographically unique [Cu16(CysH2)6Cl16] segments for three of the six cysteine anions.

Description: The crystal structure of the title salt, C20H42N4 2+·2ClO4 −, has been determined using synchrotron radiation at 220 (2) K. The structure determination reveals that protonation has occurred at diagonally opposite amine N atoms. The asymmetric unit comprises one half of the organic dication, which lies about a center of inversion, and one perchlorate anion. The macrocyclic dication adopts the most stable endodentate trans-III conformation. The crystal structure is stabilized by intramolecular N—H...N, and intermolecular N—H...O and C–H...O hydrogen bonds involving the macrocycle N—H and C—H groups as donors and the O atoms of perchlorate anions as acceptors, giving rise to a three-dimensional network.

Description: The crystal structures of three benzimidazole esters containing aryl or heterocyclic substituents at position 2 are reported, and all three exhibit disorder of molecular entities. In ethyl 1-methyl-2-[4-(prop-2-ynoxy)phenyl]-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylate, C20H18N2O3, (I), the prop-2-yn-1-oxyphenyl unit is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having effectively equal occupancies, 0.506 (5) and 0.494 (5). The propyl substituent in ethyl 1-propyl-2-(pyren-1-yl)-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylate, C29H24N2O2, (II), is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.601 (8) and 0.399 (8), and the ester unit in ethyl 1-methyl-2-(5-chloro-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylate, C21H19ClN4O2 (III), is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.645 (7) and 0.355 (7). In each of the C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds in (I), the donor and acceptor form parts of different disorder components, so that no continuous aggregation is possible. The molecules of (II) are linked by a single C—H...O hydrogen bond into C(10) chains, which are linked into sheets by a π–π stacking interaction, whereas those of (III) are just linked into C(13) chains, again by a single C—H...O hydrogen bond. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Description: The crystal structure of dilithium potassium citrate monohydrate, Li+·2K+·C6H5O7 3−·H2O or LiK2C6H5O7·H2O, has been solved by direct methods and refined against laboratory X-ray powder diffraction data, and optimized using density functional techniques. The complete citrate trianion is generated by a crystallographic mirror plane, with two C and three O atoms lying on the reflecting plane, and chelates to three different K cations. The KO8 and LiO4 coordination polyhedra share edges and corners to form layers lying parallel to the ac plane. An intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond occurs between the hydroxyl group and the central carboxylate group of the citrate anion as well as a charge-assisted intermolecular O—H...O link between the water molecule and the terminal carboxylate group. There is also a weak C—H...O hydrogen bond.

Description: In the title molecule, C28H25Cl2N3O3S, the heterocyclic portion of the tetrahydroisoquinoline unit is planar while the cyclohexene ring adopts a twist-boat conformation. The two 4-chlorophenyl groups extend away from one side of this unit while the hydroxyl and acetyl groups extend away from the opposite side and form an intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond. The crystal packing consists of layers parallel to the bc plane. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (37.3%), Cl...H/H...Cl (17.6%), O...H/H...O (11.1%), C...H/H...C (10.9%) and N...H/H...N (9.7%) interactions.

Description: In comparison with the previous structure determination of K2Mg3(OH)2(SO4)3(H2O)2, dipotassium trimagnesium dihydroxide tris(sulfate) dihydrate, from laboratory powder X-ray diffraction data [Kubel & Cabaret-Lampin (2013). Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 639, 1782–1786], the present redetermination against CCD single-crystal data has allowed for the modelling of all non-H atoms with anisotropic displacement parameters. As well as higher accuracy and precision in terms of bond lengths and angles, the clear localization of the H-atom positions leads also to a reasonable hydrogen-bonding scheme for this hydroxy hydrate. The structure consists of (100) sheets composed of corner- and edge-sharing [MgO6] octahedra and sulfate tetrahedra. Adjacent sheets are linked by the potassium cations and a hydrogen bond of medium strength involving the water molecule. The title compound is isotypic with its CoII and MnII analogues: the three K2 M 3(OH)2(SO4)3(H2O)2 (M = Mg, Co, Mn) structures are quantitatively compared.

Description: The title compound [systematic name: 2-(N-hydroxyimino)-1,2-diphenylethanol], C14H13NO2, consists of hydroxy phenylacetophenone and oxime units, in which the phenyl rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 80.54 (7)°. In the crystal, intermolecular O—HOxm...NOxm, O—HHydr...OHydr, O—H′Hydr...OHydr and O—HOxm...OHydr hydrogen bonds link the molecules into infinite chains along the c-axis direction. π–π contacts between inversion-related of the phenyl ring adjacent to the oxime group have a centroid–centroid separation of 3.904 (3) Å and a weak C—H...π(ring) interaction is also observed. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of the crystal structure indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H...H (58.4%) and H...C/C...H (26.4%) contacts. Hydrogen bonding and van der Waals contacts are the dominant interactions in the crystal packing.

Description: Six 1-halobenzoyl-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazines have been prepared using carbodiimide-mediated coupling reactions between halobenzoic acids and N-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine. The molecules of 1-(4-fluorobenzoyl)-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine, C18H19FN2O2 (I), are linked into a chain of rings by a combination of C—H...O and C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds. 1-(4-Chlorobenzoyl)-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine, C18H19ClN2O2 (II), crystallizes in the space group Pca21 with Z′ = 4 and it exhibits both pseudosymmetry and inversion twinning: a combination of six C—H...O and two C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds generate a three-dimensional assembly. In 1-(4-bromobenzoyl)-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine, C18H19BrN2O2 (III), which also crystallizes in space group Pca21 but with Z′ = 2, the bromobenzoyl unit in one of the molecules is disordered. Pseudosymmetry and inversion twinning are again present, and a combination of three C—H...O and one C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds generate a two-dimensional assembly. A single C—H...O hydrogen bond links the molecules of 1-(4-iodobenzoyl)-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine, C18H19IN2O2 (IV), into simple chains but in the isomeric 3-iodobenzoyl analogue (V), which crystallizes in space group P212121 with Z′ = 2, a two-dimensional assembly is generated by a combination of four C—H...O and two C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds; pseudosymmetry and inversion twinning are again present. A single C—H...O hydrogen bond links the molecules of 1-(2-fluorobenzoyl)-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine, C18H19FN2O2 (VI), into simple chains. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Description: The reaction of 1,5-dibromopentane with urotropine results in crystals of the title molecular salt, 5-bromourotropinium bromide [systematic name: 1-(5-bromopentyl)-3,5,7-triaza-1-azoniatricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane bromide], C11H22BrN4 +·Br− (1), crystallizing in space group P21/n. The packing in compound 1 is directed mainly by H...H van der Waals interactions and C—H...Br hydrogen bonds, as revealed by Hirshfeld surface analysis. Comparison with literature examples of alkylurotropinium halides shows that the interactions in 1 are consistent with those in other bromides and simple chloride and iodide species.

Description: The title diorganotin Schiff base derivative, [Sn(C4H9)2(C15H13N3O2S)], features a penta-coordinated tin centre defined by the N,O,S-donor atoms of the di-anionic Schiff base ligand and two methylene-C atoms of the n-butyl substituents. The resultant C2NOS donor set defines a geometry intermediate between trigonal–bipyramidal and square-pyramidal. In the crystal, amine-N—H...O(methoxy) hydrogen bonding is found in a helical, supramolecular chain propagating along the b-axis direction. The chains are assembled into a layer parallel to (overline{1}01) with methylene-C—H...π(phenyl) interactions prominent; layers stack without directional interactions between them. The analysis of the calculated Hirshfeld surface showed the presence of weak methylene-C—H...π(phenyl) interactions and short H...H contacts in the inter-layer region. Consistent with the nature of the identified contacts, the stabilization of the crystal is dominated by the dispersion energy term.

Description: The compound N-[2-(4-fluoro-3-phenoxybenzoyl)hydrazinecarbothioyl]benzamide, C21H16FN3O3S, crystallizes in the monoclinic centrosymmetric space group P21/c and its molecular conformation is stabilized via an intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond. The corresponding para-methoxy derivative, namely, N-[2-(4-fluoro-3-phenoxybenzoyl)hydrazinecarbothioyl]-4-methoxybenzamide, C22H18FN3O4S, crystallizes in the monoclinic centrosymmetric space group C2/c. The supramolecular network mainly comprises N—H...O, N—H...S and C—H...O hydrogen bonds, which contribute towards the formation of the crystal structures for the two molecules. The different intermolecular interactions have been further analysed using Hirshfeld surface analysis and fingerprint plots.

Description: Two novel aluminium double salts, [Al(H2O)6](SO4)NO3·2H2O, hexaquaaluminium sulfate nitrate dihydrate, (1), and [Al(H2O)6](SO4)Cl·H2O, hexaquaaluminium sulfate chloride hydrate, (2), were obtained in the form of single crystals. Their crystal structures are each based on an octahedral [Al(H2O)6]3+ unit and both structures have in common one charge-balancing SO4 2− anion. The final positive charge from the aluminium(III) cation is balanced by an NO3 − or a Cl− anion for (1) and (2), respectively. Compound (1) further contains two unligated water molecules while compound (2) only contains one unligated water molecule. In the crystal structures, all components are spatially separated and interactions are mediated via medium–strong hydrogen bonding, compared to many other reported aluminium sulfates where corner-sharing of the building units is common. The two compounds represent rare cases where one aluminium(III) cation is charge-balanced by two different anions.

Description: The crystal structures of dichloridopalladium(II) complexes bearing 2-methyl- and 2-phenyl-8-(diphenylphosphanyl)quinoline, namely, dichlorido[8-(diphenylphosphanyl)-2-methylquinoline-κ2 N,P]palladium(II), [PdCl2(C22H18NP)] (1) and dichlorido[8-(diphenylphosphanyl)-2-phenylquinoline-κ2 N,P]palladium(II), [PdCl2(C27H20NP)] (2), were analyzed and compared to that of the 8-(diphenylphosphanyl)quinoline (PQH) analogue (3). In all three complexes, the phosphanylquinoline moiety acts as a bidentate P,N-donating chelate ligand. In the PQH complex (3), the PdII center has a typical planar coordination environment; however, both the methyl- and phenyl-substituted phosphanylquinoline (PQMe and PQPh, respectively) complexes (1) and (2) exhibit a considerable tetrahedral distortion around the PdII center, as parameterized by the τ4 values of 0.1555 (4) and 0.1438 (4) for (1) and (2), respectively. The steric interaction from the substituted group introduced at the 2-position of the quinoline ring enforces the cis-positioned Cl ligand to be displaced from the ideal coordination plane. Also, the ideally planar phosphanylquinoline five-membered chelate ring shows a large bending deformation by the displacement of the PdII center from the quinoline plane. In addition, in the phenyl-substituted complex (3), the coordinating quinolyl and the substituted phenyl rings are not co-planar to each other, having a dihedral angle of 33.08 (7)°. This twist conformation prohibits any intermolecular π–π stacking interaction between the quinoline planes, which is observed in the crystals of complexes (1) and (2).

Description: The title compound, C17H13NO3, adopts a Z configuration about the C=C bond. The isoxazole and methoxybenzylidene rings are almost coplanar with a dihedral angle of 9.63 (7)° between them. In contrast, the phenyl substituent is twisted significantly out of the plane of the oxazole ring, with the two rings inclined to each other by 46.22 (4)°. The crystal structure features C—H...O, C—H...N and C—H...π hydrogen bonds and π–π contacts. An analysis of the Hirshfeld surfaces points to the importance of H...H, H...C/C...H and H...O/O...H contacts. The included surface areas of the title compound were compared to those of the isomeric structure (Z)-4-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-3-phenylisoxazol-5(4H)-one [Zhang et al. (2015). Description: The unit cell of the title compound, [FeII(NCS)2(C19H32N8)], consists of two charge-neutral complex molecules. In the complex molecule, the tetradentate ligand N 1 ,N 3-bis[(1-tert-butyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methylene]-2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine coordinates to the FeII ion through the N atoms of the 1,2,3-triazole and aldimine groups. Two thiocyanate anions, also coordinated through their N atoms, complete the coordination sphere of the central Fe ion. In the crystal, neighbouring molecules are linked through weak C—H...C/S/N interactions into a three-dimensional network. The intermolecular contacts were quantified using Hirshfeld surface analysis and two-dimensional fingerprint plots, revealing the relative contributions of the contacts to the crystal packing to be H...H 50.8%, H...C/C...H 14.3%, H...S/S...H 20.5% and H...N/N...H 12.1%. The average Fe—N bond distance is 2.170 Å, indicating the high-spin state of the FeII ion, which does not change upon cooling, as demonstrated by low-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. DFT calculations of energy frameworks at the B3LYP/6–31 G(d,p) theory level were performed to account for the interactions involved in the crystal structure.

Description: The compound, {6,6′-dimethoxy-2,2′-[(4-azaheptane-1,7-diyl)bis(nitrilomethanylidyne)]diphenolato}zinc(II) methanol monosolvate, [Zn(C22H27N3O4)]·CH3OH, at 298 K crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pna21. The Zn atom is coordinated by a pentadentate Schiff base ligand in a distorted trigonal–bipyramidal N3O2 geometry. The equatorial plane is formed by the two phenolic O and one amine N atom. The axial positions are occupied by two amine N atoms. The distorted bipyramidal geometry is also supported by the trigonality index (τ), which is found to be 0.85 for the molecule. In the crystal, methanol solvent molecule is connected to the complex molecule by an O—H...O hydrogen bond and the complex molecules are connected by weak supramolecular interactions, so achiral molecules generate a chiral crystal. The Hirshfeld surface analysis suggests that H...H contacts account for the largest percentage of all interactions.

Description: The solid-state structures of the synthetic psychedelic 5-methoxy-N,N-di-n-propyltryptamine (5-MeO-DPT) {systematic name: N-[2-(5-methoxy-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]-N-propylpropan-1-amine}, C17H25N2O, and its fumarate salt, bis(5-methoxy-N,N-di-n-propyltryptammonium) fumarate (systematic name: bis{N-[2-(5-methoxy-1H-indol-3-yl)ethyl]-N-propylpropan-1-aminium} but-2-enedioate), 2C17H25N2O+·C4H2O4 2−, are reported. The freebase has a single tryptamine molecule in the asymmetric unit. The molecules are linked together by N—H...N hydrogen bonds in zigzag chains along the [010] direction. The fumarate salt has a single tryptammonium cation and half of a fumarate dianion in the asymmetric unit. The tryptammonium and fumarate ions are held together in one-dimensional chains by a series of N—H...O hydrogen bonds. These chains are combinations of R 4 4(22) rings, and C 2 2(14) and C 4 4(28) parallel chains along [001].

Description: The title compounds, 8-{1-[3-(cyclopent-1-en-1-yl)benzyl]piperidin-4-yl}-2-methoxyquinoline, C27H30N2O (I), and 8-{4-[3-(cyclopent-1-en-1-yl)benzyl]piperazin-1-yl}-2-methoxyquinoline, C26H29N3O (II), differ only in the nature of the central six-membered ring: piperidine in I and piperazine in II. They are isoelectronic (CH cf. N) and isotypic; they both crystallize in the triclinic space group Poverline{1} with very similar unit-cell parameters. Both molecules have a curved shape and very similar conformations. In the biaryl group, the phenyl ring is inclined to the cyclopentene mean plane (r.m.s. deviations = 0.089 Å for I and 0.082 Å for II) by 15.83 (9) and 13.82 (6)° in I and II, respectively, and by 67.68 (6) and 69.47 (10)°, respectively, to the mean plane of the quinoline moiety (r.m.s. deviations = 0.034 Å for I and 0.038 Å for II). The piperazine ring in I and the piperidine ring in II have chair conformations. In the crystals of both compounds, molecules are linked by C—H...π interactions, forming chains in I and ribbons in II, both propagating along the b-axis direction. The principal contributions to the overall Hirshfeld surfaces involve H...H contacts at 67.5 and 65.9% for I and II, respectively. The major contribution to the intermolecular interactions in the crystals is from dispersion forces (E dis), reflecting the absence of classical hydrogen bonds.

Description: The title sterically congested piperazine derivative, C20H27FN2O2, was prepared using a modified Bruylants approach. A search of the Cambridge Structural Database identified 51 compounds possessing an N-tert-butyl piperazine substructure. Of these only 14 were asymmetrically substituted on the piperazine ring and none with a synthetically useful second nitrogen. Given the novel chemistry generating a pharmacologically useful core, determination of the crystal structure for this compound was necessary. The piperazine ring is present in a chair conformation with di-equatorial substitution. Of the two N atoms, one is sp 3 hybridized while the other is sp 2 hybridized. Intermolecular interactions resulting from the crystal packing patterns were investigated using Hirshfeld surface analysis and fingerprint analysis. Directional weak hydrogen-bond-like interactions (C—H...O) and C—H...π interactions with the dispersion interactions as the major source of attraction are present in the crystal packing.

Description: The title molecule, C17H26N2O, adopts an L-shaped conformation, with the straight n-decyl chain positioned nearly perpendicular to the dihydrobenzimidazole moiety. The dihydrobenzimidazole portion is not quite planar as there is a dihedral angle of 1.20 (6)° between the constituent planes. In the crystal, N—H...O hydrogen bonds form inversion dimers, which are connected into the three-dimensional structure by C—H...O hydrogen bonds and C—H...π(ring) interactions. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H...H (75.9%), H...C/C...H (12.5%) and H...O/O...H (7.0%) interactions. Based on computational chemistry using the CE–B3LYP/6–31 G(d,p) energy model, C—H...O hydrogen bond energies are −74.9 (for N—H...O) and −42.7 (for C—H...O) kJ mol−1.

Description: In the molecular structure of the title compound, C16H13Cl2N5, the 1,4-dihydropyridine ring of the 1,3,4,8-tetrahydro-2H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidine ring system adopts a screw-boat conformation, while the 1,3-diazinane ring is puckered. In the crystal, intermolecular N—H...N and C—H...N hydrogen bonds form molecular sheets parallel to the (110) and (overline{1}10) planes, crossing each other. Adjacent molecules are further linked by C—H...π interactions, which form zigzag chains propagating parallel to [100]. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most significant contributions to the crystal packing are from N...H/H...N (28.4%), H...H (24.5%), C...H/H...C (21.4%) and Cl...H/H...Cl (16.1%) contacts.

Description: The title compound, [ZnCl2(C13H11N3)]·C3H7NO, crystallized in the monoclinic crystal system in space group P21/n. The asymmetric unit contains one neutral complex molecule, which consists of a zinc ion, a bidentate ligand, and two chlorido ligands with dimethylformamide monosolvate. The ligand has two moieties, a benzimidazole and an aniline group. The benzimidazole and aniline planes are not coplanar, subtending a dihedral angle of 18.24 (8)°. The Zn(II) ion shows distorted tetrahedral geometry, being coordinated by an imidazole N atom, the aniline N atom, and two chlorido ligands. Description: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C15H12Br2F3NO2, consists of two crystallographically independent molecules. In both molecules, the pyrrolidine and tetrahydrofuran rings adopt an envelope conformation. In the crystal, molecule pairs generate centrosymmetric rings with R 2 2(8) motifs linked by C—H...O hydrogen bonds. These pairs of molecules form a tetrameric supramolecular motif, leading to molecular layers parallel to the (100) plane by C—H...π and C—Br...π interactions. The most important contributions to the surface contacts of both molecules are from H...H (23.8 and 22.4%), Br...H/H...Br (18.3 and 12.3%), O...H/H...O (14.3 and 9.7%) and F...H/H...F (10.4 and 19.1%) interactions, as concluded from a Hirshfeld surface analysis.

In N-(benzo[d]thiazol-6-yl)-3-bromobenzamide, C14H9BrN2OS, where the two ring systems are nearly parallel to one another [dihedral angle = 5.8 (2)°], the molecules are linked by N—H...O and C—H...N hydrogen bonds to form ribbons of R 3 3(19) rings, which are linked into sheets by short Br...Br interactions [3.5812 (6) Å]. N-(6-Methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-nitrobenzamide, C15H11N3O4S, crystallizes with Z′ = 2 in space group Pna21: the dihedral angles between the ring systems [46.43 (15) and 66.35 (13)°] are significantly different in the independent molecules and a combination of two N—H...N and five C—H...O hydrogen bonds links the molecules into a three-dimensional network. The molecules of 5-cyclopropyl-N-(6-methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)isoxazole-3-carboxamide, C15H13N3O3S, exhibit two forms of disorder, in the methoxy group and in the cyclopropylisoxazole unit; symmetry-related pairs of molecules are linked into dimers by pairwise N—H...N hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Description: In the title compound, C16H15N5, the 1,4-dihydropyridine ring has a shallow boat conformation, while the 1,3-diazinane ring adopts an envelope conformation. In the crystal, pairwise N—H...N hydrogen bonds generate centrosymmetric dimers featuring R 2 2(12) motifs and C—H...N contacts connect these dimers to form double layers lying parallel to (001). Weak C—H...π and N—H...π interactions help to consolidate the double layers and van der Waals interactions occur between layers. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most significant contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (38.5%), N...H/H...N (33.3%) and C...H/H...C (27.3%) contacts.

Description: Twinning by pseudo-merohedry is a common phenomenon in small-molecule crystallography. In cases where twin-component volume fractions are markedly different, structure solution is often no more difficult than for non-twinned structures of similar complexity. When twin-component volume fractions are similar, however, structure solution can be much more of a problem. This paper presents hints and tips for such cases by means of three worked examples. The first example presents the most common (and simplest) case of a two-component pseudo-orthorhombic twin. The second example describes structure solution of a reticular threefold pseudo-hexagonal twin that benefits from use of an unconventional space-group setting. The third example covers structure solution of a reticular fourfold pseudo-tetragonal twin. All three structures are ultimately shown to be monoclinic crystals that twin as a consequence of unit-cell metrics that mimic those of higher symmetry crystal systems.

Description: Two polymorphs of the title tetrakis-substituted pyrazine carboxylic acid, 3,3′,3′′,3′′′-{[pyrazine-2,3,5,6-tetrayltetrakis(methylene))tetrakis(sulfanediyl]}tetrapropionic acid, C20H28N2O8S4, (H4L1), have been obtained, H4L1_A and H4L1_B. Each structure crystallized with half a molecule in the asymmetric unit of a triclinic Poverline{1} unit cell. The whole molecules are generated by inversion symmetry, with the pyrazine rings being located about inversion centers. The crystals of H4L1_B were of poor quality, but the X-ray diffraction analysis does show the change in conformation of the –CH2—S—CH2—CH2– side chains compared to those in polymorph H4L1_A. In the crystal of H4L1_A, molecules are linked by two pairs of O—H...O hydrogen bonds, enclosing R 2 2(8) ring motifs forming layers parallel to plane (100), which are linked by C—H...O hydrogen bonds to form a supramolecular framework. In the crystal of H4L1_B, molecules are also linked by two pairs of O—H...O hydrogen bonds enclosing R 2 2(8) ring motifs, however here, chains are formed propagating in the [001] direction and stacking up the a-axis. Reaction of H4L1 with Hg(NO3)2 in the presence of a potassium acetate buffer did not produce the expected binuclear complex, instead crystals of a potassium–organic framework were obtained, poly[(μ-3-{[(3,5,6-tris{[(2-carboxyethyl)sulfanyl]methyl}pyrazin-2-yl)methyl]sulfanyl}propanoato)potassium], [K(C20H27N2O8S4)] n (KH3L1). The organic mono-anion possesses inversion symmetry with the pyrazine ring being located about an inversion center. A carboxy H atom is disordered by symmetry and the charge is compensated for by a potassium ion. A similar reaction with Zn(NO3)2 resulted in the formation of crystals of a dipotassium-organic framework, poly[(μ-3,3′-{[(3,6-bis{[(2-carboxyethyl)sulfanyl]methyl}pyrazine-2,5-diyl)bis(methylene)]bis(sulfanediyl)}dipropionato)dipotassium], [K2(C20H26N2O8S4)] n (K2H2L1). Here, the organic di-anion possesses inversion symmetry with the pyrazine ring being located about an inversion center. Two symmetry-related acid groups are deprotonated and the charges are compensated for by two potassium ions.

Description: The title compound, {[K4Ni2(C7H6N4O7)2]·4.8H2O} n , was obtained as a result of a template reaction between oxalohydrazidehydroxamic acid, formaldehyde and nickel(II) nitrate followed by partial hydrolysis of the formed intermediate. The two independent [Ni(C7H6N4O7)]2– complex anions exhibit pseudo-C S symmetry and consist of an almost planar metal-containing fragment and a 1,3,5-oxadiazinane ring with a chair conformation disposed nearly perpendicularly with respect to the former. The central NiII atom has a square-planar N2O2 coordination arrangement formed by two amide N and two carboxylate O atoms. In the crystal, the nickel(II) complex anions form layers parallel to the ab plane. Neighboring complex anion layers are connected by layers of potassium cations for which two of the four independent cations are disordered over two sites [ratios of 0.54 (3):0.46 (3) and 0.9643 (15):0.0357 (15)]. The framework is stabilized by an extensive system of hydrogen bonds where the water molecules act as donors and the carboxylic O atoms, the amide O atoms and the oxadiazinane N atoms act as acceptors.

Description: In the title compound, C22H22ClN3O4S, which has potential non-steroidal anti-inflammatory activity, the benzothiazine and cyclohexenone rings both adopt a distorted sofa conformation while the 4H-pyrane ring adopts a very flattened sofa conformation. The two bicyclic fragments are skewed to each other, with the dihedral angle between their least-squares planes being 72.8 (1)°. In the crystal, the molecules form a hydrogen-bonded chain parallel to the a axis due to N—H...O and N—H...Cl hydrogen bonds. Neighbouring chains are linked by C—H...N, C—H...O and π–π stacking interactions. Hirshfeld surface analysis was used to investigate the importance of the different types of intermolecular interactions whose contributions are: H...H = 44.7%, O...H/H...O = 21.8%, N...H/H...N = 11.9%, C...H/H...C = 9.5%, Cl...H/H...Cl = 7.2%. Parts of the molecule, viz. the phenyl ring and the ethyl side chain, are equally disordered over two sets of sites.

Description: The title compound, C23H19BrN4O2, is a product of an azo coupling reaction between 3,4-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)imidazole and 4-bromophenyldiazonium tetrafluoroborate. Its crystal structure was determined using data collected at 120 K. The molecule adopts a trans configuration with respect to the N=N double bond. The imidazole and aryl rings attached to the azo linkage are coplanar within 12.73 (14)°, which indicates significant electron delocalization within the molecule. In the crystal, the molecules form centrosymmetric dimers via pairs of N—H...O hydrogen bonds.

Description: The first title benzoyl amide, C17H20ClNO5 (3a), crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4 and the second, C19H24ClNO5 (3b), also crystallizes in P21/c with Z = 8 (Z′ = 2), thus there are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. In 3a, the phenyl ring makes a dihedral angle of 50.8 (3)° with the amide moiety with the C=O group on the same side of the molecule as the C—Cl group. One methoxy group is almost in the plane of the benzene ring, while the ethoxy and other methoxy substituent are arranged on opposite sides of the ring with the ethoxy group occupying the same side of the ring as the C=O group in the amide moiety. For one of the two molecules in 3b, both the amide and 5,5-dimethyl-3-oxocyclohex-1-en-1-yl moieties are disordered over two sets of sites with occupancies of 0.551 (2)/0.449 (2) with the major difference between the two conformers being due to the conformation adopted by the cyclohex-2-en-1-one ring. The three molecules in 3b (i.e., the undisordered molecule and the two disorder components) differ in the arrangement of the subsituents on the phenyl ring and the conformation adopted by their 5,5-dimethyl-3-oxocyclohex-1-en-1-yl moieties. In the crystal of 3a, N—H...O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into a zigzag chain propagating in the [001] direction. For 3b a combination of C—H...O and N—H...O intermolecular interactions link the molecules into a zigzag ribbon propagating in the [001] direction.

Description: The product obtained from the reaction of pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid and hydrated copper(II) chloride in hot aqueous NaOH solution was determined by low temperature X-ray diffraction to be [Cu3(C6H4NO3)4(OH)2(H2O)2] n or [Cu3(μ-OH)2(μ-nicNO)4(H2O)2] n (nicNO is pyridine-3-carboxylate N-oxide), a structure obtained from room temperature data and reported previously. The present determination is improved in quality and treatment of the H atoms. A Hirshfeld surface analysis of the intermolecular interactions is presented.

Description: The title compound, [Cu2(C19H23N7O)(C2H3O2)4] n , was obtained via reaction of copper(II) acetate with the coordinating ligand, 6-ethoxy-N 2,N 4-bis[2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl]-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine. The crystallized product adopts the monoclinic P21/c space group. The metal core exhibits a paddle-wheel structure typical for dicopper tetraacetate units, with triazine and pyridyl nitrogen atoms from different ligands coordinating to the two axial positions of the paddle wheel in an asymmetric manner. This forms a coordination polymer with the segments of the polymer created by the c-glide of the P21/c setting of the space group. The resulting chains running along the c-axis direction are held together by intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bonding. These chains are further packed by dispersion forces, producing an extended three-dimensional structure.

Description: The title compound, [Fe(C3H7NO)6][Cd2Cl7], crystallizes in the trigonal space group Roverline{3} and is assembled from discrete [Fe(DMF)6]3+ cations (DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) and [Cd2Cl7]3− anions. In the cation, the iron(III) atom, located on a special position of overline{3} site symmetry, is coordinated by six oxygen atoms from DMF ligands with all Fe—O distances being equal [2.0072 (16) Å]. A slight distortion of the octahedral environment of the metal comes from the cis O—Fe—O angles deviating from the ideal value of 90° [86.85 (7) and 93.16 (7)°] whilst all the trans angles are strictly 180°. The central Cl atom of the [Cd2Cl7]3− anion is also located on a special position of overline{3} site symmetry and bridges two corner sharing, tetrahedrally coordinated CdII atoms. The two Cd atoms and the central Cl atom are colinear. The two sets of terminal chloride ligands on either side of the dumbbell-like anion are rotated relative to each other by 30°. In the crystal, the cations and anions, stacked one above the other along the c-axis direction, are held in place principally by electrostatic interactions. There are also C—H...Cl and C—H...O interactions, but these are rather weak. Of the six crystal structures reported to date for ionic salts of [Fe(DMF)6] n+ cations (n = 2, 3), five contain FeII ions. The title compound is the second example of a stable compound containing the [Fe(DMF)6]3+ cation. The existence of both [Fe(DMF)6]2+ and [Fe(DMF)6]3+ cations shows that the DMF ligand coordination sphere can accommodate changes in the charge and spin states of the metal centre.

Description: In the title molecule, C23H28N2O, the phenyl ring is inclined to the quinoxaline ring system at a dihedral angle of 20.40 (9)°. In the crystal, C—H...O interactions between neighbouring molecules form chains along the a-axis direction. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions to the crystal packing are from H...H (70.6%), H...C/C...H (15.5%) and H...O/O...H (4.6%) interactions. The optimized structure calculated using density functional theory at the B3LYP/6–311 G(d,p) level is compared with the experimentally determined structure in the solid state. The calculated highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy gap is 3.8904 eV. Part of the n-nonyl chain attached to one of the nitrogen atoms of the quinoxaline ring system shows disorder and was refined with a double conformation with occupancies of 0.604 (11) and 0.396 (11).

The fluorene skeleton is nearly planar and the crystal structure is composed of molecular layers extending parallel to the (302) plane. Within a layer, one formyl oxygen atom participates in the formation of a Carene—H...O bond, which is responsible for the formation of an inversion symmetric supramolecular motif of graph set R 2 2(10). A second oxygen atom is involved in an intramolecular Carene—H...O hydrogen bond and is further connected with a formyl hydrogen atom of an adjacent molecule. A Hirshfeld surface analysis indicated that the most important contributions to the overall surface are from H...H (46.9%), O...H (27.9%) and C...H (17.8%) interactions.

Description: The compound bis{μ3-2,5-bis[N-(4-isopropylphenyl)-P,P-diphenylphosphorimidoyl]pyrrol-1-ido-κ3 N:N′:N′′}trisilver(I) trifluoromethanesulfonate deuterated benzene pentasolvate, [Ag3(C46H44N3P2)2](CF3O3S)·5C6D6, (I), was synthesized from two equivalents of NaL [L = 2,5-(4- i PrC6H4N=PPh2)C4H2N] and three equivalents of AgOTf (OTf = OSO2CF3). High-quality crystals of (I) formed with five deuterated benzene solvent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Notably, the bond lengths and angles between the three silver atoms are markedly different, unlike in most other reported trisilver complexes that tend to form three equivalent metal centers. Additionally, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a trisilver complex with six nitrogen donors from two bisphosphinimine ligands.

Description: An unusually large and structurally complex charge-neutral polynuclear cluster, hexa-μ2-azido-di-μ3-chlorido-hexa-μ2-hydroxido-di-μ3-oxido-hexakis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)hexathorium–diethyl ether–tetrahydrofuran (1/0.56/1.44), [Th3(C10H15)6Cl3(N3)6(OH)6O2]·0.56C4H10O·1.44C4H8O or [Th3(Cp*)3(O)(OH)3]2Cl2(N3)6·0.56C4H10O·1.44C4H8O (Cp* = [pentamethylcyclopentadienyl])−, has been crystallized as a mixed tetrahydrofuran/diethyl ether solvate and structurally characterized. The molecule contains a number of unusual features, the most notable being a finite yet exceptionally long cyclic metal-azido chain. These rare features are the consequence of both sterically protecting Cp* ligands and highly bridging oxide and hydroxide ligands in the same system and illustrate the interesting new possibilities that can arise from combining organometallic and solvothermal f-block element chemistry.

Description: In the title compound, C17H14Cl2N4, the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 50.09 (9)°. The central –N=N– unit shows an E configuration. In the crystal, C—H...N interactions, C—Cl...π and π–π stacking interactions [centroid-to-centroid distance = 3.7719 (14) Å] link the molecules, forming molecular layers approximately parallel to the (002) plane. Additional weak van der Waals interactions between the layers consolidate the three-dimensional packing. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H...H (33.6%), N...H/ H...N (17.2%), Cl...H/H...Cl (14.1%) and C...H/H...C (14.1%) contacts.

Description: The polymeric title complex, poly[hexa-μ-aqua-diaquatetra-μ-cyanurato-tetralithium] [Li4(C3H2N3O3)4(H2O)7] n , synthesized at room temperature from an aqueous solution of lithium hydroxide and cyanuric chloride, crystallizes in the triclinic space group Poverline{1}. There are two distinct Li+ cations in the asymmetric unit, one of which, Li1, has distorted trigonal–bipyramidal geometry and is coordinated via oxygen to two cyanurate anions occupying equatorial positions, and three water molecules, two in the axial positions and the third in an equatorial position. One of the axial water ligands and the equatorial water ligand are involved in bridging to a crystallographically equivalent Li1 cation. A centre of inversion lies between the two Li1 cations and the Li1...Li1 distance is 3.037 (5) Å. The remaining axial water ligand bridges to the second Li cation, Li2, which is disordered over two crystallographic sites with approximately equal occupancy, and has an Li1...Li2 distance of 3.438 (7) Å. The terminal Li2 cation is coordinated to three water molecules and an oxygen atom from a cyanuric anion and has a distorted tetrahedral geometry. A three-dimensional network of intermolecular hydrogen bonds involving N—H...O, O—H...O and O—H...N interactions serves to hold the structure together. The title compound was further characterized using IR and UV–vis spectroscopy and TG–DTA analysis.

Description: The investigation of the coordination chemistry of heterometallic transition-metal complexes of palladium (Pd) and rhenium (Re) led to the isolation and crystallographic characterization of tetrakis(1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-ylidene)palladium(II) hexadecacarbonyltetrarhenium diethyl ether disolvate, [Pd(C5H8N2)4][Re4(CO)16]·2C4H10O or [Pd(IMe)4][Re4(CO)16]·2C4H10O, (1), and octa-μ-carbonyl-dicarbonyltetrakis(triphenylphosphane)palladiumdirhenium, [Pd4Re2(C18H15P)4(CO)10] or Pd4Re2(PPh3)4(μ-CO)8(CO)2, (2), from the reaction of Pd(PPh3)4 with 1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-carboxylate and Re2(CO)10 in a toluene–acetonitrile mixture. In complex 1 the Re—Re bond lengths [2.9767 (3)–3.0133 (2) Å] are close to double the covalent Re radii (1.51 Å). The palladium–rhenium carbonyl cluster 2 has not been structurally characterized previously; the Pd—Re bond lengths [2.7582 (2)–2.7796 (2) Å] are about 0.1 Å shorter than the sum of the covalent Pd and Re radii (1.39 + 1.51 = 2.90 Å). One carbene ligand and a diethyl ether molecule are disordered over two positions with occupancy ratios of 0.5:0.5 and 0.625 (15):0.375 (15) in 1. An unidentified solvent is present in compound 2. The given chemical formula and other crystal data do not take into account the unknown solvent molecule(s). The SQUEEZE routine [Spek (2015). Acta Cryst. C71, 9–18] in PLATON was used to remove the contribution of the electron density in the solvent region from the intensity data and the solvent-free model was employed for the final refinement. The cavity with a volume of ca 311 Å3 contains approximately 98 electrons.

Description: The synthesis and crystal structure of the title racemic compound, [Co(C2H8N2)3]Cl3.{[Na(H2O)6]Cl}0.5, are reported. The trivalent cobalt atom, which resides on a crystallographic threefold axis, is chelated by a single ethylene diamine (en) ligand and yields the tris-chelate [Co(en)3]3+ cation with distorted octahedral geometry after the application of crystal symmetry. The sodium cation (site symmetry overline{3}), has a single water molecule bound to it in the asymmetric unit and yields a distorted, octahedrally coordinated hydrated [Na(H2O)6]+ cation after the application of symmetry. One of the chloride ions lies on a general position and the other has overline{3} site symmetry. An extensive array of C—H...O, N—H...Cl and O—H...Cl hydrogen bonds exists between the ethylene diamine ligands, the water molecules of hydration, and the anions present, thereby furnishing solid-state stability.

Description: The title compounds, [Fe4(C2H3O2)6(C7H4O3)FO(C5H5N)3]·C5H5N·0.24H2O (1-F) and [Fe4(C2H3O2)6(C7H4O3)ClO(C5H5N)3]·H2O (1-Cl) were synthesized using a self-assembly reaction in methanol and pyridine with stoichiometric addition of salicylhydroxamic acid (H3shi), acetic acid (HOAc), and the appropriate ferric halide salt. The compounds crystallize as solvates, where 1-F has one pyridine molecule that is disordered about a twofold axis and one water molecule with an occupancy of 0.24 (2); and 1-Cl has one water molecule that is disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.71 (1) and 0.29 (1). The space groups for each analog differ as 1-F crystallizes in Fdd2 while 1-Cl crystallizes in P21. The difference in packing is due to changes in the intermolecular interactions involving the different halides. The two molecules are mostly isostructural, differing only by the torsion of the pyrine ligands and slight orientation changes in the acetate ligands. All of the iron(III) ions are in six-coordinate octahedral ligand field geometries but each one exhibits a unique coordination environment with various numbers of O (four to six) and N (nought to two) atom donors. Bond-valence sums confirm each iron is trivalent. The hydroximate ligand is bound to three iron(III) ions using a fused chelate motif similar to those in metallacrown compounds.

Description: Nafamostat dimesylate {systematic name: [amino({6-[(4-{[amino(iminiumyl)methyl]amino}phenyl)carbonyloxy]naphthalen-2-yl})methylidene]azanium bis(methanesulfonate)}, C19H19N5O22 +·2CH3O3S−, is a broad-spectrum serine protease inhibitor and has been applied clinically as an anticoagulant agent during hemodialysis and for treatment of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). Since nafamostat contains flexible moieties, it is necessary to determine the conformation to understand the structure–activity relationships. The divalent cation has a screw-like motif. The guanidinium group is approximately perpendicular to the naphthyl ring system, subtending a dihedral angle of 84.30 (14)°. In the crystal, the nafamostat molecules form columnar structures surrounded by a hydrophilic region.

Description: Two new 1-(thiazol-2-yl)-4,5-dihydropyrazoles have been synthesized from simple precursors, and characterized both spectroscopically and structurally. In addition, two intermediates in the reaction pathway have been isolated and characterized, one of them structurally. The molecules of the intermediate (E)-1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]prop-2-en-1-one, C19H16O3 (I), are linked by a combination of C—H...O and C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds to form ribbons. The products (RS)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-(4-phenythiazol-2-yl)-3-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole, C28H23N3O2S (II), and (RS)-5-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-[4-(4-methylphenyl)thiazol-2-yl]-3-[4-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole, C29H25N3O2S (III), are closely related – differing only by presence or absence of a methyl group at the arylthiazolyl substituent – and crystallize in an isomorphous setting. Both molecules contain an effectively planar dihydro-pyrazole ring, and possess an overall T-shaped structure, which is a characteristic of triaryl-substituted 4,5-dihydro-1-(thiazol-2-yl)pyrazole compounds. The crystal packing is characterized by intermolecular C—H...S and C—H...π (aryl/alkyne) interactions. A combination of two C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds links the product molecules into sheets.

Description: The title compounds, 6-nitroquinazolin-4(3H)-one (C8H5N3O3; I), 6-aminoquinazolin-4(3H)-one (C8H7N3O; II) and 4-aminoquinazolin-1-ium chloride–4-aminoquinazoline–water (1/1/2), (C8H8N3 +·Cl−·C8H7N3·2H2O; III) were synthesized and their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. In the crystals of I and II, the quinazoline molecules form hydrogen-bonded dimers via N—H...O interactions. The dimers are connected by weak intermolecular C—H...N and C—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming a layered structure in the case of I. In the crystal of II, N—H...N and C—H...O interactions link the dimers into a three-dimensional network structure. The asymmetric unit of III consists of two quinazoline molecules, one of which is protonated, a chloride ion, and two water molecules. The chloride anion and the water molecules form hydrogen-bonded chains consisting of fused five-membered rings. The protonated and unprotonated quinazolin molecules are linked to the chloride ions and water molecules of the chain by their amino groups.

Description: The structure of 4-chloro-1H-pyrazole, C3H3ClN2, at 170 K has orthorhombic (Pnma) symmetry and is isostructural to its bromo analogue. Data were collected at low temperature since 4-chloro-1H-pyrazole sublimes when subjected to the localized heat produced by X-rays. The structure displays intermolecular N—H...N hydrogen bonding and the packing features a trimeric molecular assembly bisected by a mirror plane (m normal to b) running through one chlorine atom, one carbon atom and one N—N bond. The asymmetric unit therefore consists of one and one-half 4-chloro-1H-pyrazole molecules. Thus, the N—H proton is crystallographically disordered over two positions of 50% occupancy each.
