    Description: Et nytt medielandskap har gitt endrede vilkår for offentlig debatt: for ytringsfrihet, informasjonsfrihet og kunnskapsformidling. Men der noen ser en grenseløs ny offentlighet preget av hets og sjikane, ser andre et knugende meningsklima der det straffer seg å gå mot strømmen. Og der noen hyller de nye mediene for å slippe nye stemmer til, tviler andre på at en meningsfylt samtale er mulig i dagens algoritmestyrte sosiale medier. Hvordan kan virkeligheten oppfattes så forskjellig? I denne boken undersøker forfatterne om disse motpolene har gjenklang i den norske befolkningen, eller om polariseringen er overdrevet. De utforsker hvilke grenser folk trekker for hva man kan hevde og mene offentlig, om disse grensedragningene har endret seg i de senere årene, og hvordan alder, kjønn, utdanning og politisk ståsted henger sammen med ulike oppfatninger og erfaringer.     Description: Norway tops international indexes on children’s rights but continues to attract criticism for its level of compliance with the Convention of the Rights of Child. This book is the first scholarly attempt to address this implementation paradox. The authors ask: What is the current level of implementation? How can we explain any gap in perceived performance? Can we improve our measurement of children’s rights? With the use of quantitative and qualitative methods, the volume examines a wide range of areas relevant to children’s rights. These include child protection and sexual violence, detention and policing, poverty and custody proceedings, asylum and disability, sexual orientation and gender identity, and childcare and human rights education. In addition, the book offers a proposal for an alternative statistical approach to measuring Norway’s performance. The book’s editors conclude by pointing towards the complex set of factors that complicate full realisation and the need for the Government to engage in proper measurement of implementation.

    Description: This text gives a comprehensive coverage of how optimization problems involving decisions and uncertainty may be handled by the methodology of Stochastic Dynamic Programming (SDP). A rapidly changing world with seemingly growing uncertainty needs a modern approach to this classic methodology. The book treats discrete, as well as continuous problems, all illustrated by relevant real world examples. The book presents a comprehensive outline of SDP from its roots during World War II until today. Much of recent research are covered, as well as parts of the authors’ own original research. Algorithms and computer techniques are added when needed. The book may serve as a supplementary text book on SDP (preferably at the graduate level) given adequate added background material. Kjetil Kåre Haugen is a professor of Logistics and Sport Management at Molde University College, Specialized University in Logistics.

Er det en kreativ tanke med skrivingen, en spesiell kreativ prosess mens man skriver, eller er det utviklingen av et kreativt produkt i form av en kreativ akademisk tekst? I denne boka undersøkes disse spørsmålene på kryss og tvers gjennom elleve kapitler. Forfatterne har utfordret seg selv når det gjelder form så vel som innhold: ved å vise populærvitenskapens tekster når de fungerer som best, ved å se nærmere på essayets potensial som tanke og didaktisk ramme, ved å utforske følelsenes betydning for sakprosaen, og ved å vandre gjennom gatene og oppsøke tidsånden. I kreativ skriving er det en leken og utprøvende tilnærming til formen, ikke bare til innholdet, som er metoden for å utvikle tanken. Kreativitet i akademisk skriving er ikke et tilvalg – å skrive i en kreativ modus ligger i kjernen av den vitenskapelige metoden i humanistisk forskning. Denne innsikten er noe av det viktigste humanistisk forskning kan gi videre til andre fagfelt, studenter og allmennheten generelt: at man gjennom skriving kan tenke kreativt i betydningen nytt og verdifullt.

    Description: This edited volume presents new approaches to better understand how knowledge is presented verbally and visually in children’s and young adult nonfiction picturebooks. Nonfiction for children and young adults has existed alongside fiction ever since the very first texts for children appeared. However, in the field of children’s literature, there are few critical, theoretical and analytical studies on nonfiction. The chapters in this edited volume demonstrate increased international interest and attention to the variety of nonfiction for children and young adults generally and nonfiction picturebooks in particular. The present volume brings together contributors from different countries and different academic disciplines; they represent a diversity of academic cultures. Together the chapters propose typologies, models, and analytical tools for encountering and interpreting both contemporary and historical nonfiction picturebooks and contribute to increased understanding of verbal and visual complexity in nonfiction picturebooks.

    Description: Public long-term care services represent an interesting illustration of a particular type of commitment on the part of the welfare state, mainly because such services tend to involve more binding forms of reciprocity than in most other services. This book explores the implications of this reality in further detail with the aim of providing a deeper insight into the welfare state as an emergent phenomenon and into what we conceptualize as a “welfare state experiment” – the case of Scandinavia. Our ambition is to advance a historical and multi-scalar analysis of this experiment by exploring how key tenets of the welfare state are changing in the light of neoliberalism and the contemporary crisis of social reproduction conceived of as a “care crisis”. The contributors to this book approach this issue from diverse angles based on their different theoretical perspectives and scientific disciplines such as social anthropology, sociology, social work, and economy. They investigate how changes in the welfare service-chain are articulated at street- level by the public services and at the macro level in social policy and the imagination. They also examine how the relation(s) between these two realms of social reality give shape to a variety of ‘translations’, conflicts and negotiations.

    Description: This book is about Indigenous education and citizenship. Our center of attention is the politics of Indigenous education to be put into practice. We emphasise the processual aspects of both education and citizenship. We investigate how having both Indigenous and non- Indigenous citizens in nation state education systems is reflected in policy, pedagogy, and practice, and how to consider the implications for future forms of education and citizenship. The book contributes to knowledge about Indigenous education as a field of research, policy, and practice around the world. To reach this goal, we examine the conceptual, political, and pedagogical issues relating to Indigenous citizenship and education in four different contexts, namely Sápmi, Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and Namibia. Together, the contributors of the book come from different research disciplines, from Indigenous studies, education, and social anthropology to sociolinguistics, political science, and philosophy. The chapters highlight continua and diversity rather than dichotomies and unity. We look for how local practices relate to national and international demands and perspectives, and for different ways of performing citizenship. Together, we seek the connections between the local, the national and the international, and between educational policy and practice.
