    Description: Ecclesiastical institutions and actors were essential for the formation of normative orders in early modern Ibero-America. In a series of seminars, organised by the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Mexico City, Lima, Bogotá and São Paulo, scholars from different disciplines presented innovative studies on the history of religious normativity and its practices. Based upon the Lima colloquium, the present volume focuses on the viceroyalty of Peru (16th-19th centuries).

    Description: The volume, dedicated to the 44th International Conference of the Italian Union for Drawing, investigates the theme of ‘Transitions’, which particularly effectively represents our time and the current condition of the discipline of Drawing. The term, beyond its generic meaning of an intermediate stage in a process in which a condition changes from one state to another, has always been used in various fields, from music to geophysics. In fact, the disciplines of drawing have always been confronted with themes and issues relating to transitions from one condition to another. The history of representation tells us of transformations, even epochal ones, relating to ‘drawing’, with all that such transitions entail: suffice it to think of the evolution of forms of representation, of instrumental apparatuses, of the mutability of supports, of the analogical-digital transition underway, of the new modes of communication on platforms, of the hypertrophic offer of images also on the net that confirms Guy Debord’s intuitions relating to the new spectacularisation of society. Similarly, representation triggers transitions in the prefiguration and communication of design, the anticipation and foreshadowing of future events.The challenges posed by the digital pose open questions whose scope can only be glimpsed, such as the relationship between drawing and the act of modelling, and the construction of new paradigms of visual language and communication. ‘Transitions’, almost implicitly, points to possible futures, the evolution of technique and the search for new modes of expression; at the same time, however, it can suggest silences and reflections in a process of connection between history, theory, criticism and construction.

    Description: In 1907, the city of Heredia became the epicenter of the most important religious conflict experienced by Costa Rica in the 20th century. A complaint that the theory of evolution was being taught in the Lyceum (i.e. secondary school) of that city, triggered an increasingly intense confrontation between the Catholic parishioners and the circle of young radical intellectuals articulating around the writer and educator Roberto Brenes Mesén. In the course of this process, Costa Rican society, to the alarm of the government of Cleto González Víquez, was the scene of popular mobilizations in defense of the faith, excommunications and burning of impious texts, while Catholic morality was systematically questioned based on sexual abuse attributed to priests. For a moment, it seemed that the country had gone back in time, and that the ghosts of 1884 were present.

En los largos cuarenta años de la dictadura, la Iglesia sufrió importantes transformaciones, al compás de las que se experimentaban en el tejido social. Los lectores las encontrarán en estas páginas y comprobarán, una vez más, que la historia no se escribe de forma lineal.

    Description: En Resistir al neoliberalismo. Comunidades y autonomías Pilar Calveiro no se centra en las características del neoliberalismo sino, como su nombre lo indica, en la posibilidad y la potencia de las resistencias comunitarias. Para ello retoma la discusión sobre los rasgos violentos y autoritarios del neoliberalis mo, desarrollados en textos anteriores, enfatizando ahora en la conformación de redes de poder que rebasan al aparato estatal. Ello obliga a desplazar el foco de análisis, del Estado y sus responsabilidades directas o indirectas, a la gubernamentalidad neoliberal, como una trama más densa y compleja. Se trata de observar la articulación de las redes de poder legal/ilegales y público/privadas que, en el neoliberalismo, ejecutan diversas violencias orientadas a desarrollar verdaderas políticas del miedo.

    Description: This book aims to study the history of the University of Tortosa from its canonical erection in 1600 to 1717, when it was transferred to Cervera. Through four chapters the place of the University of Tortosa in the set of the Universities of the Crown of Aragon is studied, through the proposopography of rectors, lecturers and graduates. It was a Convent-University run by the Order of Preachers that exclusively taught Philosophy and Theology. The documentary appendix includes the Statutes of the Colegio de San Matías and San Jaime, the Statutes of the University, as well as the list of graduates that has been preserved for the periods 1600-1623 and 1659-1717. Among them, there are numerous regular and secular clergymen from Valencia, Catalonia, Aragon and Mallorca.---Este libro pretende estudiar la historia de la Universidad de Tortosa desde su erección canónica en 1600 hasta 1717, año en el que fue transferida a Cervera. A través de cuatro capítulos, se estudia el lugar de la Universidad de Tortosa en el conjunto de las Universidades de la Corona de Aragón, mediante la proposopografía de rectores, lectores y graduados.     Description: The court and court society in the Hispanic world (16th-18th centuries): The courtly world has emerged as a propitious intellectual and historiographical space for thinking and writing the history of early modernity. Ever since the renewal of the so-called ‘political history,’ but also after the perspective of cultural studies, the courtly has become the privileged scenario for the study of the political society of the Modern Age, starting from the analysis of the formation of the different social actors’ different political identities in dispute, as well as the tracking of hidden interests in decision-making in order to understand power groups or networks. Similarly, the courtly cannot but be thought of as that singular scenario and/or space of conjunction and indistinction between the political (public) and the economic (private), as well as a locus of identity formation and dispute. In this sense, the study of the Ancien Régime societies cannot ignore the courtly, which is a key element for understanding and analyzing one of the articulating elements of the globality of the European monarchies, particularly the Hispanic monarchy. As this work describes, this global perspective allows us to understand the importance and imprint of the courtly in America. Therefore, the aim is to analyze and understand the court and the courtly world from multiple perspectives. The articles that make up this work problematize the courtly from different geographical spaces, but above all from different intellectual concerns and preoccupations: princely and courtly education, the problem of the King’s favorite, the religious, the nobiliary, the place of the feminine in the court or, also, the materiality of the courtly texts and the materiality of the government of the monarchy from the court.

Desde la renovación de la denominada ‘historia política’, pero también desde los estudios culturales, lo cortesano ha devenido en el escenario privilegiado de estudio de la sociedad política de la Edad Moderna, partiendo de análisis de la conformación de las diferentes identidades políticas en disputa de los distintos actores sociales, como también del rastreo de intereses ocultos en las tomas de decisiones para comprender redes o grupos de poder. Asimismo, lo cortesano no puede dejar de pensarse como ese escenario y/o espacio singular de conjunción e indistinción entre lo político (público) y lo económico (privado), así como un locus de conformación y disputa identitaria. En este sentido, el estudio de las sociedades del Antiguo Régimen no puede obviar lo cortesano, máxima para comprender y analizar uno de los elementos articuladores de la globalidad de las monarquías europeas, singularmente de la monarquía hispánica. Esta perspectiva global nos permite comprender, como se realiza en esta obra, la importancia e impronta de lo cortesano en América. Por lo tanto, esta obra busca analizar y comprender la corte y el mundo cortesano desde múltiples perspectivas. Los artículos que conforman esta obra problematizan lo cortesano desde diversos espacios geográficos, pero sobre todo desde distintas inquietudes y preocupaciones intelectuales: la educación principesca y cortesana, el problema del valimiento, lo religioso, lo nobiliario, el lugar de lo femenino en la corte o, también, la materialidad de los textos cortesanos y la materialidad del gobierno de la monarquía desde la corte.

A cuarenta años de la primera descripción clínica de casos de lo que se conoció como el Síndrome de Inmunodeficiencia Adquirida, nos encontramos en un momento propicio para ver con mayor perspectiva el fenómeno de esta pandemia. Definitivamente, la coyuntura es ideal para debatir el tema del VIH y quien mejor que los, las y les activistas de nuestra región para hablarnos de la desesperación y el ostracismo padecido. Pero también, para que nos cuenten cómo a pesar de los estigmas y de las limitaciones, lograron buscar soluciones, se reunieron, organizaron y crearon un mejor futuro para las nuevas generaciones.

    Description: En los últimos años hemos visto un crecimiento importante de diversas investigaciones enmarcadas en los Estudios Sociales del Deporte en nuestro continente. Gracias al esfuerzo personal de académicos como Pablo Alabarces y Simoni Lahud Guedes, hoy se han multiplicado las publicaciones que adscriben a esta comunidad. También ha habido esfuerzos institucionales de múltiples universidades que han contratado académicos e investigadoras y que han financiado estudios, sumado al interés del Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO) por apoyar este trabajo en el continente. Concretamente, el Grupo de Trabajo “Deporte, Cultura y Sociedad" de CLACSO ha generado vínculos entre académicos del continente para continuar con el legado de quienes nos han marcado el camino. Este libro es una muestra de cómo, colaborativamente, se pueden construir investigaciones críticas y enfocadas en la transformación de las desigualdades e injusticias.

    Description: El Diablo entra en el Paraíso, con la intención de apropiarse de la humanidad utilizando un nuevo y formidable instrumento: el proceso. Compuesto en el siglo XIV, transmitido como obra jurídica falsamente atribuida a Bartolo da Sassoferrato, el “Proceso entre el Diablo y la Virgen María” es un proceso simulado, en forma de diálogo, entre el Diablo, Cristo y la Virgen. Considerado como obra menor y casi ignorado por la historiografía, la obra constituye en realidad un extraordinario ejemplo de sincretismo cultural: el lenguaje de la teología sirve al derecho como fuente de legitimación, y a la inversa, la construcción escatológica y la misma teoría de la Salvación se injertan en una estructura jurídica. Desde esta perspectiva, aquí se vuelve a proponer el texto como un punto de observación ideal para aprehender las interacciones de una cultura poliédrica y compleja, suma de teatro y literatura, de derecho y teología, culta y popular.

    Description: Esta compilación ofrece un marco conceptual de fundamentos sólidos para analizar los derechos en materia de género y sexualidad durante la marea rosa latinoamericana, plantea interrogantes difíciles sobre las relaciones entre ideología y gobierno, y destaca el modo en que se convierte a las feministas y personas LGBT y queer en chivos expiatorios de las vastas luchas nacionalistas, antineoliberales y antiimperialistas. Hoy, cuando la marea rosa está en clara retirada y un auténtico tsunami de derecha sacude gran parte de la región, sin embargo, es más fundamental que nunca evaluar los aciertos y desaciertos que ocurrieron durante los gobiernos de izquierda para imaginar las estrategias que podrían ayudar a feministas, personas queer y otras fuerzas progresistas a maniobrar el brusco cambio de dirección en curso en todas las Américas.

    Description: Los territorios rurales en Colombia enfrentan retos actuales relacionados no sólo con los aspectos sociales fundamentales para la paz, sino, también con las condiciones productivas y ambientales necesarias para avanzar hacia modelos de desarrollo rural sostenibles. Objetivos como alcanzar soberanía alimentaria, luchar contra la pobreza rural, adaptar la agricultura a riesgos emergentes y mitigar el efecto del cambio climático, proteger los recursos naturales especialmente suelo, agua y agrobiodiversidad, asegurar la prestación de servicios ecosistémicos, atender a la creciente demanda de alimentos, entre otros, requieren reconfigurar los sistemas agroalimentarios. Simultáneamente, la agricultura familiar viene siendo promovida por movimientos sociales que reconocen el papel esencial que cumplen de producir alimentos y cuidar la naturaleza y exigen el reconocimiento de su rol y políticas diferenciales que les permitan reproducir dignamente sus condiciones sociales de vida.

    Description: Si los especialistas de la historia de las ideas y de la historia social se han interesado en la percepción del «otro» religioso, pocos son los estudios que han examinado esta cuestión en la Edad Media. Esta obra ofrece una nueva perspectiva de las relaciones interreligiosas a través de una selección de estudios de carácter histórico, social, religioso o artístico de los problemas vividos entre las comunidades cristiana, musulmana y judía. Muestran cómo un autor, un artista, sea judío, musulmán o cristiano, describe o comprende las prácticas religiosas, las realidades culturales, las costumbres de sus oponentes y su evolución en el Medioevo. Estos estudios nos permiten comprender mejor los problemas de interrelación en el mundo actual, en este momento en que Europa vive cambios profundos ante la necesidad de integrar las masas de inmigrantes de diversas culturas y religiones en su propia realidad.

    Description: Franz Hinkelammert afirmó hacia fines del siglo XX una idea que tiene plena vigencia: "La nueva derecha es heredera de las dictaduras militares de Seguridad Nacional, y su vocación es asegurar el esquema de poder originado por esas dictaduras bajo formas democráticas, en beneficio de las élites y con la bendición de Estados Unidos".En efecto, las estrategias de la derecha vuelven a sus orígenes. En el plano político, se ha intensificado el perfil ideológico desplazando el espectro hacia posturas ultraderechistas. El autoritarismo de nueva generacio´n registrado durante la segunda de´cada de este milenio definitivamente se ha exacerbado. Esta matriz se ha reforzado en lo económico, actualizando la antigua alianza tecno-militar en la composición de los gobiernos en cargos claves (Brasil, Paraguay y Colombia), al tiempo que se refuerza el imaginario del Estado emprendedor, ahora conducido sin mediaciones y en forma directa por empresarios.

Lo hace munido de una concepción de la historia que no mira con nostalgia el pasado y cree en la necesidad de reinventar siempre el camino, en al menos dos direcciones. Por un lado, buscando profundizar la integración latinoamericana en una tarea permanente de rearticulación de sus objetivos e instituciones, conformada tanto de visiones y agendas convergentes como de pragmatismo y eficacia. Por el otro, avanzando en un modelo de gobernabilidad que sepa ampliar las bases del Estado sin coaptar el poder popular, en una dinámica que no es sencilla de alcanzar pero sobre la que se podrá sostener un programa de gobierno progresista que no traicione la voluntad y la capacidad de movilización de las bases.

    Description: In contemporary societies we see a state of social inequality as in the old regime: the accumulation of wealth in 1% of the population, multimillionaires as presidents, the increase in luxury consumption, the emergence of a culture of distinction, as well as the concentration of the earth and the spatial segregation. To understand these phenomena in a coherent interpretative framework, this essay proposes the hypothesis that in the early 21st century we are experiencing a new combination of refeudalization at the global level, but with specific regional features. In Latin America, this concept is particularly useful for understanding the return of the right to power after a period of leftist governments.
    Description: En las sociedades contemporáneas constatamos un estado de desigualdad social como en el viejo régimen: la acumulación de la riqueza en el 1% de la población, multimillonarios como presidentes, el aumento en el consumo de lujo, el surgimiento de una cultura de distinción, así como la concentración de la tierra y la segregación espacial. Para comprender estos fenómenos en un marco interpretativo coherente, este ensayo plantea la hipótesis de que en el temprano siglo XXI vivimos una nueva combinación de refeudalización a nivel global, pero con rasgos regionales específicos. En América Latina este concepto es particularmente útil para entender el regreso de la derecha al poder después de una época de gobiernos de izquierda.

    Description: El Bolsón es conocido internacionalmente como un pueblo paradisíaco, bucólico, mágico y natural, algo que, ante todo, favorece al mercado turístico e inmobiliario, que motoriza la economía local. Las disputas sociales y políticas que se expresan en el espacio público son presentadas como conflictos traídos desde afuera que amenazan la armonía reinante. Sin embargo, su historia está marcada por la conflictividad y la estigmatización sucesiva de diversas otredades, y esto configura la trama de relaciones de poder, las experiencias de los sujetos y los modos de representarlas. Amparada en el relativo aislamiento geográfico, esta narrativa insiste en la ajenidad del pueblo a los convulsionados años setenta. Frente a ello, esta investigación expone la dimensión y las modalidades que efectivamente revistió la represión política en El Bolsón entre 1974 y 1983, así como las memorias que circularon localmente en momentos claves de la lucha por los derechos humanos hasta el año 2012, cuando fue creado el primer sitio de memoria sobre la expresión local de la última dictadura.

    Description: En el marco de intensos cambios políticos y económicos, el salto de siglo trajo a Latinoamérica nuevas orientaciones en la gestión y negociación de las políticas sociales, además de consensos y conflictos en torno a las mismas. Sin abandonar del todo las medidas de corte liberal recomendadas por el Consenso de Washington, buena parte de los gobiernos de la región incluyeron en sus agendas objetivos de corte universalista, junto con la implementación de un conjunto de transformaciones (heterogéneas) que mantienen, consolidan o modifican procesos iniciados en los años ochenta del siglo pasado. Partiendo de este contexto, la presente obra colectiva del Grupo de Trabajo sobre Pobreza y Políticas Sociales de CLACSO, condensa sus preocupaciones sobre los retos que enfrenta América Latina para enfrentar los niveles de exclusión social que la caracterizan, a la vez que ensaya explicaciones sobre la incidencia de los ciclos económicos y políticos que afectan permanentemente su patrón de distribución de la riqueza, e instituyen una lógica de avance y retroceso que bloquea la instalación de adecuadas estrategias de bienestar, con capacidad para atender los principales riesgos sociales y reducir la desigualdad. El análisis de esta compleja e histórica problemática, contextualizada en los primeros quince años del siglo XXI, ofrece la oportunidad de identificar las distintas orientaciones políticas de los gobiernos de turno y sus dilemas.

El grupo de trabajo tiene como objetivo central el análisis y apoyo de las experiencias de solidaridad económica en América Latina, decantándose por la exploración de los alcances y límites que tales procesos suponen para las comunidades locales y los movimientos sociales.     Description: "Ecclesiastical institutions and actors were essential for the formation of normative orders in early modern Ibero-America. However, both legal historiography, due to its strong legalistic, state-centred imprint, and general historiography on colonial times, more inclined towards secular law, have only rarely discussed the contribution of ecclesiastical normativity to the formation of that normative texture which, in the historiographical tradition, has been called ‘derecho indiano’. In light of this situation, the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History has organised a series of seminars in different Latin American cities in order to offer an interdisciplinary forum dedicated to the research of ‘ecclesiastical normativities and institutions in Ibero-America’ between the 16th and 19th centuries. The present volume is the first in a series of publications that document the results of this cycle of seminars celebrated in Mexico City, Lima, Bogotá and São Paulo. The book, focusing on New Spain, is divided into five thematic parts. The first section presents investigations on canon law and moral theology that deal with characteristic aspects of multinormativity and the teaching of those disciplines in early modern times. The second section examines diocesan governance and ecclesiastical power in Mexico City and Puebla via statutes of the cathedral chapter, members of the ‘curia arzobispal’ and pertinent legal opinions. In the third section, the contributors reflect on the normativity and administration of sacraments, drawing on conciliar norms, treatises, pragmatic literature but as well on registers of baptisms and confessions. The fourth section deals with ethnic groups in courts of justice, both civil and ecclesiastic ones: indigenous people accused of ‘hechicería’ in a tribunal of Tlaxcala and Afro-Mexicans who started litigation in the archiepiscopal court of Mexico. The articles of the fifth section cover the topics of beatification, devotion and cultural expressions (music, images) from a normative perspective and extend the period of investigation to the 19th century. The articles on ecclesiastical institutions and normativities in New Spain collected in this volume propose new research fields for legal history and the history of the Church, which at the same time are relevant for social and cultural history. The editors’ purpose has been to present approaches that explore the relationship between different types of normativities, their local adaptations, the ties with global debates, the forms of solving conflicts, as well as the role of jurists, theologians and other actors. The topics discussed by the authors represented in this volume – who cultivate the disciplines of history, legal history, church history, ethnohistory, art history and the history of music – contribute to a better understanding of the normative religious universe in Spanish America."

    Description: Hace años que México atraviesa por una crisis de largo aliento, combinada con sucesivos estallidos de indignación y reclamos populares. Este texto propone ubicar y pensar la crisis de México a nivel específico del estado, considerándolo en su doble faz de instrumento de dominación y promesa no inocua de bienestar y evitando salidas sencillas. Este tipo de crisis no es nuevo en la región latinoamericana, por lo que recurrimos a otras experiencias (Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador y Venezuela) con ánimos de analizar qué podemos recuperar. El factor que nos permite la comparación con estos casos es la instancia de renovación constituyente: la convocatoria a renovar los acuerdos más básicos que nos ligan como pueblo. Pensamos la renovación constituyente no como simple recambio legal o técnico, sino como la convocatoria amplia a re-construir la nación a partir de acuerdos sociales básicos. ¿La figura del Congreso Constituyente es útil para estos fines? ¿cuál ha sido la experiencia al respecto en América Latina en el último movimiento constituyente? ¿Cómo se ven las perspectivas de México a la luz de esas experiencias? Estas son las preguntas que guían el texto.

    Description: Sin duda, estos trece artículos ofrecen diversos análisis, información rigurosa y actualizada, reflexiones críticas y perspectivas y metodologías innovadoras que delinean las principales características del gobierno urbano local en relación con las condiciones habitacionales actuales y la política de vivienda implementada en diferentes ciudades de Am.rica Latina.     Description: En el ámbito estrictamente programático cada uno de los proyectos emancipatorios que hoy se citan en la arena político-intelectual (el del pensamiento decolonial, el de la profundización del Estado Democrático de Derecho o el del Socialismo) asume conceptualizaciones, a menudo inmanentes, de modernidad y colonialismo que resultan internamente problemáticas. Del mismo modo, parecen contradictorias las formas principales de conceptualización de la dupla modernidad/colonialismo entre los diversos proyectos. Todo ello hace imperativo explorar el alcance, los límites y las posibilidades de síntesis entre estas diversas aproximaciones. El análisis de las tensiones entre modernidad y colonialismo contribuye, sin duda, al examen de los méritos y problemas de cada uno de estos programas emancipatorios. Por una parte, la modernidad misma es disecada conceptualmente según las aspiraciones y compromisos de cada programa emancipador. Por otra, el colonialismo, dibujado en sus versiones economicistas, culturalistas, políticas, localistas o globalistas, o en mezclas matizadas, dependiendo del género emancipatorio que sostenga el pincel, parece indicar sentidos distintos a la resistencia y a las luchas sociales. El análisis de las tensiones entre modernidad y colonialismo ofrece así un espacio inigualable para pensar los alcances y problemas de cada una de estas formas de pensamiento emancipatorio latinoamericano.

    Description: El presente libro es resultado de una iniciativa conjunta entre la Confederación Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Trabajadores Estatales (CLATE) y el Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO), que tuvo su origen en ocasión del año del cincuentenario de ambas organizaciones. En relación a las investigaciones que aquí se publican, creemos que hemos respondido a la necesidad de articular la acción sindical con la investigación social. Para los trabajadores existe una doble demanda al respecto. En primer lugar, la de contar con información de primera mano, que pueda servir de insumo a la acción sindical. En segundo lugar, la de poder relevar y conocer en profundidad distintos aspectos vinculados al mundo del trabajo a través de estudios de alcance regional, que permitan un análisis comparado entre nuestros países. Y esto es así tanto por el carácter regional de nuestra Confederación como por el hecho de que los embates del capital sobre el trabajo se producen a nivel regional y global, lo que exige respuestas por parte de los trabajadores en el mismo sentido.

    Description: En la larga historia de Occidente, el derecho fue y sigue siendo el medio por excelencia para la construcción institucional. A partir de montajes hechos de palabras, proferidas por quien tiene el poder para hacerlo, el derecho tiene la singularidad de promover existencia a lo que ellas enuncian. Esta capacidad de artificio que contiene el discurso jurídico se remonta a la tradición latina, romana y medieval, que designaba al derecho como un arte, un saber sistemático y técnico que movilizaba su interpretación al servicio de la práctica. A partir de relevar la construcción técnica e histórica de ciertos artificios y operaciones jurídicas que tuvieron un lugar clave en el derecho europeo medieval y moderno y, que, en la actualidad, o bien ya no existen bajo forma jurídica o han cambiado radicalmente su sentido, proponemos una reflexión sobre la capacidad de intervención y producción de efectos del discurso jurídico.
