Description / Table of Contents: The authors completed collecting and arranging plates of photomicrographs for common pollen and spores in Quaternary strata. Given China's vast territory, complex vegetation types, a variety of plants, and polen grains with similar morphology probably produced by different plant species in different regions. We have organized this book's photomicrographs of pollen grains and spores in the division of China into five regions, i.e. northwest, northern, southeast, south and southwest China. Photomicrographs of pollen grains and spores in each region are arranged by plant classification system i.e. in order of algae, bryophyte, pteridophyte, gymnosperm, and angiosperm. All 409 plates of color photomicrographs for pollen grains and spores are finally illustrated and described.

Description: Bu çalışmanın amacı uluslararası emtia piyasalarından kaynaklanan asimetrik ve doğrusal olmayan fiyat hareketlerinin iç fiyatlara geçişkenliğini Türkiye için ölçmektir.
Description: The aim of this paper is to measure asymetric and nonlinear pass-through of international commodity prices to internal prices in the Turkish case. For this purpose, monthly data set of various international commodity prices(oil and food prices) and internal prices (ie. consumer price indices) fort the period 2003M02-2015M02 (145 observations) are utilized. The econometric estimation of the study is based on the recently developed NARDL Model. This model offers a proper possibility to simultaneously test the short and long-run nonlinearity through positive and negative 'Partial Sum Decompositions' of the international commodity prices to internal prices (ie. consumer price indices). According to our findings, it is concluded that there is a pass-through from international oil and food prices to domestic prices or inflation rate in an asymmetrical sense. The NARDL Model, in hand, also allows us to quantify the respective responses of the internal prices to positive and negative commodity price shocks from the 'Asymetric Dynamic Multipliers'. Hence, domestic inflation rates' response to international oil and food prices is asymmetrical respectively in 20-month and 15-month periods.

Description: Stare Juchy is a Masurian commune which is “a focus” of emigration, in Florian Znaniecki’s terms: a sizable percentage of its inhabitants reside and work abroad. Emigration from Juchy is an example of economic emigration from a peripheral region. Most migrants have elementary or vocational education, the outflows are directed towards one single destination (Iceland), and are based entirely on migration chains. Still, emigration from Stare Juchy has its own peculiarities related to the local socio-economic situation and model of emigration that developed here. In this text, the results of studies on emigration from Stare Juchy, carried out in the summer and fall of 2016, and in the spring of 2017 are presented. A special attention was given to re-emigration: the motives of returning, the re-emigrants’ contributions to local community, and effects of economic and social remittances. To what extent they are agents of change, and whether their activities and attitudes confirm the observations of Krzywicki and Znaniecki on the impact of emigration on technological, custom and cultural changes in the local community; or whether they stabilize and preserve the social system, by providing a financial sources that allow families to survive without any need to face new challenges.

Description: Bu calisma, Turkiye'nin 2001 krizi sonrasinda uyguladigi maliye politikasina butce harcamalari perspektifinden baktiktan sonra, 2016 ve sonrasinda beklenen dusuk buyume doneminde genisleyici bir maliye politikasinin ekonomik buyume uzerindeki etkilerini tartismaktadir.

Description: The text analyzes the political discourse in Poland for the presence of the topic of emigration and diaspora. The study is a qualitative content analysis, the subject of the analysis are programs of political parties, materials and documents created for election campaigns and exposé of prime ministers, forming successive governments. The analysis covers the period from election 1991 to the 2011-2015 parliamentary term. A more detailed analysis covers the years 2005-2011, the period after the Polish accession to the EU, symbolizing the beginning of the last wave of mass emigration. The main research questions concern the space, form and the recipients of political message on the theme of emigration and diaspora, its changes over time and the relationship between the declarations contained in the political parties programs, prime ministers exposé and later in government initiatives. The analysis showed that subjects relating to emigration and diaspora were present (though to varying degrees) during each election campaign, and the greatest interest in them took place during the elections in 2007. These topics were also not the subject of political controversy: the various political parties were rather consistent in the diagnosis of the situation and the solutions proposed in the programs, government initiatives on emigration and Poles living abroad met with symbolic resistance from the political opponents.

Description: The article discusses the case of academic silence around migration of Roma from Poland - both in Polish Romani studies (romology) and migration studies. The absence of Roma migration in migration research in Poland is contrasted with the absence of the subject of migration in Romani studies. Paradoxically, the group associated in the social imaginary with mobility is absent in migration studies in Poland. On the other hand, in the studies of Roma people in Poland, they turn out to be surprisingly static and immobilized. The aim of this paper is to critically explore this particular type of discursive silence, to think about what are the underlying theoretical and conceptual reasons and finally, how does it impact the migration and Romani studies.

Description: This working paper attempts to analyze the leading institutional features and mechanisms of rising and development of the Polish migration policy in the years 1989-2016 (April). We refer to the concept of "policy paradigm" created by Peter A. Hall (1993) who has analyzed the public policies in terms of a reflective adjustment of its objectives and administrative tools in accordance with previous experience and the incoming of new information. Referring to this concept we want to show that in Poland in the early 90s of XX century we experienced the radical change of the highly 'rationing' paradigm of migration policy and the creation of the new one (and more than 15 years of its functioning). We emphasize three of its features. First, that not emigration from Poland as the dominant migration phenomenon in this period but immigration (and different categories of foreigners) has been the main driver of shaping migration policy. Second point highlights the importance of the ministry of internal affairs as the leading actor of this policy. It was connected with the preference for the development of procedures and institutional mechanisms (as the main tools of co-operation within the administration) related to the control of migration processes, at the expense of a broader discussion about the goals of migration policy. Third point concerns the "practical" understanding of migration policy and its focusing on solving the migration issues in terms of legal procedures and institutional tools. From the one hand this approach hampered the functioning of the migration policy in Poland and solving new challenges of migration, but on the other hand it facilitated the acquisition of international and European (EU) legal solutions. At the end of the article we state the question whether the responses of the Polish authorities to the "migration crisis" in Europe from mid-2015 has been the continuation of the existing paradigm or the indicators of its change or even the radical break are being appears.

Description: "Bandas Latinas" - informal youth organizations whose affiliation is based on rootst in the Latin American community along with structures and symbols developed in the USA - appeared in Spain at the beginning of the 21st century and quickly became a symbol of the problems emerging within the context of youth and immigration. The objective of this paper is to provide a multi-aspectual presentation of the phenomenon, in both the aspect of issues involved in the integration of immigrants, as well as of changes occurring in the cultural and self-identification spheres as a result of migration and the existence of transnational networks. The experience of youth in Spain is subjected to continual comparison with that of Latino youth in the USA; the question is also posed of whether the phenomenon of these groups should be viewed in an exclusively negative light. The second chapter contains a presentation of the current state of knowledge on their activities in Spain, confronted with theories concerning integration of the children of immigrants, in particular the idea of segmented assimilation and concepts which emerged out of it. The third chapter addresses the Latin Kings organization - it serves as an example of how "bandas latinas" are created and evolve on three continents, under the influence of diverse factors and with the involvement of various actors. The issue of the dynamics involved in the formation of new markers of identification is raised (the pan-ethnic category of Latino), as well as the role of the culture industry, mass media and the Internet in the forms taken on by the phenomena under discussion; significant space is dedicated to discussion of the theory of imagination proposed by A. Appadurai. Chapter four is devoted to organizations created by youth from the Dominican Republic. They are depicted in the context of transnational studies on migration by Dominicans, particularly their consequences for culture (changes in the understanding of the category of race). The work is rounded out by observations flowing from the analysis conducted of webpages created by members of Dominican "bandas". The concluding chapter is an attempt at systematizing the conclusions appearing in the work, as well as pointing to what may potentially be the most important issues on the plane of migration research raised by the phenomenon of "bandas".

Description: Islamic finance is one of the most rapidly growing sectors in recent years. During the last decade the global value of Islamic assets has grown at yearly the pace of 10-12 per cent. Sharia compliant products, which are not based on the interest rate, has become popular also in non-Muslim countries, namely in the EU members states and in the US. Therefore, it is essential to address some practical aspects of use of these instruments such as risk management. The publication discusses characteristics of Islamic finance, financial risk that is included in main contracts and methods of its management (including practices of institutions that use Islamic financial products).

Description: The paper describes the dynamics of Polish migration to Ireland, taking into account the situation of the Irish economy and changing demand for workers on the Irish labour market. It also presents the characteristics of Polish migrants in the light of Irish, Polish and European statistics. The main focus of the analysis is the situation of Polish nationals on the island according to the 2016 Irish census, also taking into consideration main trends of change in comparison with the previous censuses. Polish immigrants, who used to be rare in Ireland before 2004, have since become the largest group of non-Irish nationals, spread all over the country, stable in size and slowly ageing. In comparison with other immigrant groups in Ireland, Poles stand out with their large percentage of persons with tertiary education and at the same time - a growing share of those continuing education. The report points to such signs of Poles' developing ties with Ireland as the share of households with children, growing number of Polish-Irish citizens and home ownership. The types distinguished among Polish migrants and their long-term migratory strategies are discussed separately.

Description: The aim of the report is the analysis of mechanisms behind labour migrants' social network formation and the role of networks in the process of everyday integration, understood as interaction in vital areas of people's lives, such as work, education or free time. The analysis is based on data deriving from a qualitative research conducted among Ukrainian labour migrants working in both the primary and the secondary labour market sector in Poland. In the first part of the report we analyse the mechanisms of Ukrainian labour migrants' tie formation with other Ukrainians and with Poles - in the work environment, during studies or through hobby groups. We show that the migrants' networks are characterised by homogeneity in various dimensions: nationality, regional origin, migration experience and socio-occupational status and we identify the reasons behind this. The second part of the report concerns the role of social networks in providing instrumental and emotional support. We distinguish resources, to which migrants have access through their social networks and their meaning for integration in economic, legal and socio-cultural dimensions. According to our research results, migrants can in a satisfactory way accomplish their migration goals, relying primarily on ties to other Ukrainians, and ties to Poles do not have an impact on the their sense of feeling integrated in Poland.

Description: According to Saskia Sassen (2012), contemporary borders are not erected against other sovereigns, but against nonstate transnational actors, migrants among them. The autonomy of migration of the latter is an act of resistance against the border regimes. Border and immigration controls aim at detecting and disciplining individuals, whose mobility questions state sovereignty. As Walters (2002) and De Genova (2010) notice, deportation and their sheer possibility, or deportability of migrants, produce sovereignty in the face of uncontrolled border-crossings, perceived by the states as a disturbing symptom of 'losing control.' The paper dialectically joins the theories concerning the macrolevel (state sovereignty, capitalist system relying on the immigrant labor force) and the level micro (the individual experience of deportation). The author presents the types of violence they experienced throughout the process of deportation. The analyzed ethnographic material is an outcome of the fieldwork conducted between 2012 and 2014 in the pueblo San Ángel in Lower Mixteca in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Qualitative interviews with 27 inhabitants of pueblo who were deported from the US between 2006 and 2012 are the basis of the analysis. Deportation was an experience of the US state for this women and men who attempted to remain 'in the shadows.' The article presents the analysis of the phases of deportation (detection, detention, immigration court, transfer and return to Mexico) and the types of violence experienced. It is necessary to include also types of violence other than the physical, among them the objective types of violence: (éZiézek 2010): the structural (Galtung 1969) and the symbolic (Bourdieu, Wacquant 2001). The author demonstrates that symbolic violence can lead to resigning from appealing against the deportation order. The author describes how violence used against migrants reconstructs the US sovereignty in lieu of 'the shadows' where the migrants lived.

Description: 1914 ve 1918 yılları arasında, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu iktisadi anlamda yıkım yaratan Birinci Dünya Savaşı’na dahil olmuştu.
Description: Between 1914 and 1918, the Ottoman Empire was involved in the World War I, leading to disruptions in economic life. The end of the war created the occupation of the Ottoman Empire by the Allies and struggle against the Allies' occupation. The historical literature argued that when Bulgaria asked for an armistice in September 1918, it was realized that the end of the war was approaching, as the Ottoman economy went into recession. Based on articles in the Ottoman newspapers, i.e., Tasvir-i Efkar and Vakit, in addition to data of foreign exchange rates and prices in the çIstanbul Bourse, this paper examines how the Ottoman economy was affected by the end of the World War I. The findings imply the presence of the higher economic recovery by October 1918 when the Ottoman Empire asked for armistices.

Description: This paper describes the origins of Polish diaspora structures in Iceland. To this end, and with reference to the theory of civic participation, we point out two analytic categories: the association activity of the immigrants understood as their capacity for self-organization and creation of community events, and the engagement of the immigrants given by their participation in such events. In the second part, we describe the major Polish associations and informal initiatives, and apply to them a variant of SWOT analysis. In the final part we describe the divisions within the leadership of the Polish community in Iceland and the issues faced by Polish associations there.

Description: The concepts such as culture, technology, design, or human capital, the tangible benefits of which are vague, are mostly effective in setting the financial value of a company, a work of art, a software, or any product. This situation triggered both sectoral and academic studies intended for analyzing and measuring this vagueness. The subject of what the “good design” is, which is an important input affecting the value of the physical environment in the cities, and the problematic of its measurability started to occupy the architectural research agenda. The prevalent view that the more intangible benefits are detected and disclosed the more “good” designs the cities will have has prompted the people who conduct research in this field to develop very comprehensive models. However, these studies that started in the ‘90s unfortunately failed to have the expected impact on creation and development of more livable cities. In this context, to get a better insight of how the financial sector reads these benefits, the subject has been opened up for discussion within the framework of the “power theory of value”, by searching for traces of the differential capitalization and strategic sabotage concepts in the physical space, which are in favor of the rootless transnational capitalist class that is at the center of this theory and the modern-day secular temples owned by the 1% of the architectural patronage who finance the highest budget projects in cities and its spatial dimension have been seen through this lens. As an outcome of the study, different values these temples and the spatial dimension concerning them carry for different actors, and how these different values or benefits are capitalized, and the types of sabotages they cause have been explained in detail, and it has been targeted to make a provocative contribution to the literature.

Description: This study asks how the Ottoman bondholders traded at the Paris stock exchange evaluated the outcomes of tax and constitutional reforms, based on the data for the most traded bond's price, i.e., the Turkish unified bond, at the Paris stock exchange from 1903 to 1909. The reforms aimed at higher tax income and decreasing arbitrary implications of the Ottoman state. The data are manually collected from The Times. The findings show that the constitutional reform was negatively related to perceived risk of the investors, since there was again a parliamentary system in the Ottoman Empire to blockage the arbitrary policies.

Description: The report presents selected results of the survey on Ukrainian migrants conducted in Warsaw and its vicinities in 2016. It describes histories of Ukrainian citizens’ migration to Poland from the perspective of their professional and family situation and in relation to their social networks and social capital. It addresses differences between male and female migrants by demonstrating that, on the average, women have longer experience with migration to Poland and tend to start their migration at older age and more often as persons possessing already their own families (e.g. children) in Ukraine. By examining transitions of migrants’ professional status, the report reveals barriers for socio-economic integration of migrants in Poland and points to differences in sectoral concentration of male and female Ukrainian workers. As it regards social networks of studied migrants, especially of women, what attracts attention is their homogeneity in relation to various individual characteristics of persons involved in these networks such as citizenship, education, wealth and age. Both for men and women resources achievable by means of these networks are first of all of practical (e.g. help in finding job or accommodation) and emotional character. Overall, the results of the described survey point to the high importance of the gender dimension in migration and everyday integration of Ukrainian migrants in Poland.

Description: This report presents the results of quantitative research that was a part of the project "In search of a theory of multiple migration. A quantitative and qualitative study of Polish migrants after 1989" (NCN: Sonata Bis funding scheme). Data was gathered with a web-questionnaire, with respondent-driven sampling. Respondents were adults born in Poland who are currently living abroad and had stayed in at least two foreign countries (including the current one). Our sample is feminized, and persons between 25 and 34 are the biggest age group. Another important characteristic of the sample is the dominance of individuals with tertiary education. While half of the sample had lived in more than two foreign countries, the most mobile group (5 migrations and more) constituted only a small percentage of the sample. Three most common countries of respondents first migrations are Great Britain, Germany and USA. In the moment when they took part in the research, the biggest groups of respondents were living in Great Britain, Germany and the Czech Republic. Most frequent motivations for migration (both for first and current migration) were issues related to work.

Description: In recent ten years or so, in some regions and sectors of the Polish economy the share of foreign workers in the labour market became significant, especially in certain months of each year. This phenomenon has been increasingly bearing on labour force balances at local and regional levels, and on the employment strategies of individual companies. Workers employed within the framework of so-called simplified procedure played particularly important role in this process. The analysis that follows has been devoted to the situation of those workers and it compares their situation with that of natives. It has been based on national sample survey of companies which in 2016 registered a declaration of intention to employ a foreign worker. The author argues that, recently observed, relatively high incidence of foreign workers in the Poland's labour market contributes to the strengthening of that market segmentation. His analysis strongly supports a hypothesis implying the deterioration of terms 4 of employment (including wages) of the employees in the inferior (lower) segment of labour market and the intensification of discriminatory practices by employers as a result of the strengthened segmentation.

Description: This paper examines the issue of Polish post-accession migration to the UK. The aim of the study was to investigate potential effect of Brexit on initial motivations, strategies and future plans of Poles living in Britain. UK's decision to leave the EU made on 23 June 2016 was undoubtedly an important moment for Polish migrants on the Isles, bringing a lot of uncertainties about their future legal status, pushing initially "intentionally unpredictable" young people towards rethinking their decisions and taking some action. Drawing on the qualitative study - the in-depth interviews with long-term migrants, conducted in Brighton and London region as a part of YMOBILITY project, potential changes in initially adapted strategies and migrants' future plans were analysed. The research based on the theoretical notions of "liquid migration", "social anchoring" and "differentiated embedding" is aiming to shed light on factors, which might influence Polish migrants' decision-making process. The results of the study indicate that personal factors seem to be of more importance than political events and determine migrants' future actions.
