    Beschreibung: This book, which comprises four different parts, divided into eighteen chapters, puts forward an analysis drawing both from philosophy and from literary hermeneutics. Its guiding thread are the creative or «poietic» processes through which the «self» forms and transforms itself as a configuration of symbols and a work of language, in the laboratory of (auto)biographic memory and imagination. The book sheds light on the open, exploratory and experimental character of literature in general and of the experiences of writing and narrating in particular. But it also emphasizes the elusive, unstable and perhaps never fully graspable trait of these experiences in a first person perspective. In the book, the processes of subjectivity and identity (personal or collective) are explored and the mechanisms for interpreting life and world are investigated.

    Beschreibung: Este trabalho pretende constituir um contributo para uma melhorcaracterização, na perspetiva forense, da avaliação do dano corporalpós-traumático quando um estado anterior está presente e promoveruma uniformização cada vez maior da avaliação efetuada pelosprofissionais sobre os conceitos analisados. Serão abordadas aspossíveis associações existentes entre patologias orgânicas outraumáticas e um estado anterior, com o objetivo de melhor descrever osprincípios gerais e específicos para o estabelecimento da imputabilidadee/ou agravamento dessas mesmas patologias. A este propósito, serãonarradas perícias médico-legais, onde as lesões traumáticas provocaramum eventual agravamento do estado anterior ou em que este influenciounegativamente as consequências do traumatismo. Tais casos foramanalisados, enfatizando a metodologia de avaliação médico-legal e aforma de valorização do estado anterior. Visa-se, também, perceber qual oefeito da conclusão médico-legal na decisão judicial, pelo que seconclui esta obra com uma análise do valor ou da influência da avaliaçãomédico-legal na tomada de decisão judicial em Portugal quando umacondição patológica preexistente está presente, identificando os pontosfortes e fracos da mesma.〈/p〉

    Beschreibung: Comes from the 10th century the oldest codex with the treatise On the Sublime. For a long time attributed to Cassius Longinus (third century ), the text is now generally considered a first century work, written by an anonymous or a Dionysius Longinus whose life and work is unknown. Ignored, as it seems, in Antiquity and the Middle Ages, the text came to meet its editio princeps only in 1554, in Basel and by the hand of Francesco Robortello. It was then successively edited and translated, first into Latin and later into several European languages, starting with the famous French version of Boileau that for a long time was the main source for the knowledge of the treatise in Europe. Peri Hypsous moves away from the stylistic approach of ancient rhetorical books and presents a definition of Sublime as a quality of discourse which produces in the hearers and readers not persuasion but wonder and ecstasy. It is precisely this idea of wonder and shudder that has inspired the works of Burke (A Philosophical Enquiry into the origin of our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful, 1757) and Kant, by whose hands the treatise On the Sublime entered the history of Western Aesthetics.

    Beschreibung: Widely acknowledged as a relevant public health problem, linked to personal and interpersonal suffering, somatization is still an unresolved problem by medicine. Perhaps because it remains on its margins and asks for solutions that medicine can’t offer, among other reasons. It means a clinical region largely ignored or devalued with the fatalistic presumption that the patients, who “are not ill”, have to live with the symptomatic pattern that characterizes their behavior. This way, somatization arises as a recurrent motive for non-satisfaction for the patient and also as a frustrating experience for the doctor, given the difficulties that characterize their relationship and the usual non-efficacy of therapeutic interventions. The tacit silence of somatization in clinical practice is broken everyday by this discontent noise, both in primary care and in the general hospital. It is a silence mainly nourished by a most conventional biomedical persuasion, claiming that the patients do have nothing wrong with them. One of the main assumptions of this book defends that the patients have comprehensive and legitimate reasons, in biographical, social and cultural contexts so many times strange to the conventional clinical evaluation, to recur to the somatic metaphor.
