    Description: During the 1920s and 1930s the wordless novel – stories told in black-and-white wordless woodcuts – was established as a narrative genre. The genre was most popular in Germany, but was as well known in other parts of Europé and in the US. The wordless novel was characterized by the absence of words, the use of woodcut and other relief printing techniques, as well as themes of social critique and serious existential issues. The purpose of the book is to - through the wordless novels of the 1920s and 30s - explain the uniqueness of the wordless narrative and thus the autonomous narrative possibilities of the image. The method of the examination is a close reading of the German artist Otto Nückel's wordless novel Schicksal (Destiny 1926). A comparative material consists of the Czech artist Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichova's wordless novel Z Mého Dětství (From My Childhood, 1929). Wordlessness is studied through the image's characteristics as an intermediary of messages and narratives and through comparisons with other expressions - the silent film, cirkus, expressionist dance and visual art, as well as medieval woodcuts. Narratives – which are usually put together by verbal communication – are in this project a tool for seeing: the image sequences or the image groups that ""replace"" the words - not as a lack or implied meaning of words, but as a personal visual story.

    Description: Among the literature aimed at students of art science and other image-interpreting sciences are a number of texts that deal with theories and theoretical concepts. However, what is largely missing, and which students often call for, are texts in Swedish that show how theories and concepts can be applied in concrete interpretation situations. The series Theoretical applications in art science aims to fill that gap, with the book Materiality being the fourth in the series. The book introduces and activates a concept that in recent decades has come to take an increasingly important place in humanistic research. Art scholars - but also archaeologists, anthropologists, literary scholars, ethnologists and other humanistic researchers - are increasingly interested in the material conditions for, and the manifestations of, people's social and cultural life and exchange. But despite its topicality in today's scientific conversation, the concept of materiality can seem elusive and elusive. It moves all the way from the most tangible analyzes of the material components of a cultural artefact, to the somewhat impenetrable theorizations of objectivity, agents and networks that are usually sorted under the label ""new materialism"". However, the book Materialitet gives concrete examples of how the concept of materiality can open up interpretations of important layers of meaning in works of art and other cultural artifacts. After the initial introduction where different perspectives and conceptualisations of materiality are discussed, six researchers each do their own analysis based on their subject area. The chapters are based on new research and are written specifically for this book. The different chapters together show the multifaceted nature of the concept of materiality, but do not lock it down to a definition, but open the eyes to a number of different interpretive paths.

Students must learn to write in new genres, and their teachers not only need to write but also help others develop their own writing. Even though writing is often essential for learning a discipline and developing a professional identity, these aspects are often overlooked in academic settings. A surprising number of us struggle with writing, and often do so alone. Writing touches upon deeply personal processes concerning who we are in the eyes of others and how we view ourselves. This book elucidates the creative and subjective sides of professional and academic writing, which are in fact quite similar to those of literary writing. Digitale medier byr på nye muligheter for å kombinere skrift med bilder og lyd, for aktiv respons, interaktiv utprøving og sosial samhandling. Det har vært satset stort på digitalt utstyr i høyere utdanning gjennom en årrekke, men arbeidsformene har ikke forandret seg tilsvarende. I denne boka analyserer forfatterne konkrete arbeidskrav og trekker inn studentenes refleksjoner omkring hvordan tekster og medier fungerer i læringsprosesser i ulike fag. Begrepet studielivskvalitet er et supplement til kvalitet forstått som målbarhet, nytte og effektivitet. De understreker betydningen av relasjoner som gjør at de føler seg sett og tatt alvorlig. Gjennom studiet utvikler studentene seg både faglig og personlig, de erfarer en transformasjon. Sentralt i boken er refleksjoner rundt studentenes erfaringer, vilkårene for god studielivskvalitet og utfordringer knyttet til den rådende forståelsen av kvalitet i dagens høyere utdanning.

    Description: Fordommer sitter i språket og i måten vi snakker på. De kommer til uttrykk på forskjellige måter og kan brukes både som humor og hatefulle ytringer. Ofte bruker vi fordommer uten at vi engang er klar over det. Men hva er egentlig fordommer? Og hvem rammes av fordommene? Dette er relevante spørsmål i dagens skole. I Fagfornyelsen legges det vekt på at skolen «skal fremme demokratiske verdier og holdninger som motvekt mot fordommer og diskriminering». I boken analyseres også hvordan fordommer og ulike forståelser av fenomenet inngår som tema i opplæringsloven og i læreplanverket, og hvordan ulike minoritetsgrupper har blitt og fremdeles blir fremstilt i skolens læreverk. Et viktig formål med boken er å gi konkrete eksempler på utforskende undervisning og mulige undervisningsstrategier for å kunne forebygge og motvirke fordommer i skolen i dag. Boken er forskningsbasert og inneholder bidrag fra en rekke ulike fagfelt. Bidragene er relevante for lærerutdanning, lektorutdanning og PPU. Boken er også aktuell for skoleledere, rådgivere og lærere både i ungdomsskolen og på videregående trinn.

    Description: Sápmi, the Sámi area, is transnational; it transcends four nation states, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. Art and art history has been considered natural parts of a nation state’s inventory at least since the 19th century and has contributed to the production and maintenance of national identities and narratives. What is the role of the nation state in art history, and how has the national paradigm affected the presentation of Sámi art, historically and today? Focusing on the discipline of art history in Norway, the volume exposes the prevailing representation of Sámi art, duodji, and dáidda as ethnographic material and relates it to the politics of nation building in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The book examines the representation of Sámi art, artefacts, practices, materialites, actors, concepts, and themes in Norwegian Art History, to uncover some of the established disciplinary mechanisms and narratives. The central method is historiography in combination with fieldwork in archives and museums, aimed at doing art historiography in the expanded field – to move beyond the traditional textual focus and question naturalized institutional and disciplinary boundaries. This is one of very few historiographical studies of the art historical discipline in Norway, and the only one that does this by centring on Sámi traditions, items, actors, and conceptualizations.

    Description: "How do you really become a skilled teacher? And what role should guidance play in the education of tomorrow's teachers? This theme is explored through a study of experienced practitioners' formalized counseling conversations with teacher students. The most important questions in the book are about how the practice teacher and teacher conduct conversations. Concretely, the question is: What is the content of the counseling interviews? How are the teacher students evaluated? How is the consequences of the counseling discussions understood? The guide being examined contains a step by step pedagogy. First, the teacher's student must learn to control, master and reflect on the social space both the classroom and the counseling conversation are. This is described as an overall moral and regulatory discourse. This discourse forms the basis for the teacher's next step - which is the actual teaching. The teacher's student must therefore master two discourses - one regulatory discourse and one teaching discourse - in order to become a skilled teacher. In addition, he or she must adapt to the regulatory discourse in the counseling conversation. The latter discourse represents in this book an initiation ritual for the teaching profession. This ritual gives the practice teacher control over the dedication, while limiting the room for maneuver in the counseling conversation. "
    Description: "Hvordan blir man egentlig en dyktig lærer? Og hvilken rolle skal veiledning spille i utdanningen av morgendagens lærere? Denne tematikken utforskes gjennom en studie av erfarne praksislæreres formaliserte veiledningssamtaler med lærerstudenter. De viktigste spørsmålene i boka handler om hvordan praksislærer og lærerstudenter gjennomfører veiledningssamtalene. Helt konkret spørres det: Hva er innholdet i veiledningssamtalene? Hvordan vurderes lærerstudentene? Hvordan forstås konsekvensene av veiledningssamtalene? Veiledningen som undersøkes, inneholder en trinnvis pedagogikk. Først må lærerstudenten lære seg å kontrollere, beherske og reflektere over det sosiale rommet både klasserommet og veiledningssamtalen er. Dette beskrives som en overordnet moralsk og regulerende diskurs. Denne diskursen danner grunnlaget for lærerstudentens neste trinn – som er selve undervisningen. Lærerstudenten må altså beherske to diskurser – én regulerende diskurs og én undervisningsdiskurs – for å bli en dyktig lærer. I tillegg må han eller hun tilpasse seg den regulerende diskursen i veiledningssamtalen. Den sistnevnte diskursen representerer i denne boka et innvielsesritual til læreryrket. Dette ritualet gir praksislæreren kontroll over innvielsen, samtidig som det begrenser handlingsrommet i veiledningssamtalen."

    Description: Narratives about northern Sweden are often narratives about nature. This has been true throughout history and is still true today. Different ways of understanding nature have become intertwined with the place and the people who live there. The nature in northern Sweden can be magnificent and impressive, but it can also be desolate, threatening and dangerous. A dominant image of nature in northern Sweden - then as now - is the image of resources, assets. The overall aim of the study is to shed light on the role of nature in linguistic place-making in northern Sweden with a particular focus on the settler colonization during the 18th and 19th centuries. Through a selection of text sources, nature’s central place in the story of the colonization, of the place, its history, change and future is highlighted. The texts that are analyzed are the two journals in which Petrus Læstadius described his work as a missionary in Lapland, as well as Olov Petter Pettersson's detailed description of the settler colonization in the work Gamla byar i Vilhelmina. The settler colonization took place in areas with Sami presence and history and this study connects to the research field of Settler Colonial Studies in a critical discussion of the linguistic place-making in the texts. One of the aims of the study is to also shed light on the connections that exist between the settler colonization depicted in the texts, and the linguistic place-making with nature at the center that is ongoing in northern Sweden today.

    Description: This anthology is a conclusion of the research results from a four-year VR project called Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland - a holistic study of a World Heritage (2014–2017). Decorative painted interiors and furniture as well as patterned interior textiles during 1700–1870 have been investigated with a combination of methods from both the humanities and the natural sciences. The purpose has been to obtain new and in-depth knowledge of paint, dyes and other raw materials and techniques used in the manufacture of artefacts and interiors in the farmhouses in this region. Through the study, an increased understanding of the local availability of paint material and the trade at that time has been obtained. In addition, detailed knowledge of the originators of the interiors has been generated. The project thus adds new knowledge for further investigation of cultural, social and economic contexts and conditions for the interior design culture that emerged and was formed in Hälsingland farms during the 18th and 19th centuries.

    Description: Like muligheter til god leseforståelse? 20 år med lesing i PISA presenterer forskning basert på PISA-undersøkelsen 2018. Hovedresultatene fra undersøkelsen ble presentert i en kortrapport i desember 2019, og denne antologien består av primær- og sekundæranalyser av norske resultater i lesing siden PISA 2000. Ulike tematiske felt innenfor leseforskningen har fått egne kapitler, som lesestrategier, kritisk lesing, lesevaner og å lese mellom linjene.     Description: TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) er en internasjonal komparativ undersøkelse som måler elevenes kompetanse i matematikk og naturfag. TIMSS gjennomføres både på barnetrinnet og på ungdomstrinnet. Gjennom spørreskjemaer til rektorer, lærere, elever og foresatte (bare på barnetrinnet) samles det inn informasjon om elevenes læringskontekst. Dette gjør det mulig å undersøke sammenhenger mellom bakgrunnsfaktorer og elevenes læringsutbytte. Denne boka inneholder analyser av data fra TIMSS 2015-undersø-kelsen. Norge deltok med elever fra 4., 5., 8. og 9. trinn. I analysene som presenteres i denne boka, belyses blant annet følgende: Er det fortsatt en positiv utvikling i norske elevers prestasjoner i realfag? Hvordan presterer norske elever i matematikk og naturfag sammenliknet med elever i de andre nordiske landene? Hvordan kan undervisningskvalitet måles, og hvordan er sammenhengen mellom lærernes undervisningskvalitet og elevenes læringsutbytte? Hva karakteriserer norske realfagslæreres kompetanse? Hvilke sammenhenger finnes mellom lærerkompetanse, undervisningskvalitet og elevenes læringsutbytte? Hvilken betydning har lekser og lærernes faglige kompetanse for likeverd i skolen? Hvilke aspekter ved skolemiljøet har betydning for elevenes læringsutbytte? Ole Kristian Bergem, Hege Kaarstein og Trude Nilsen ved ILS (Institutt for lærerutdanning og skoleforskning) ved Universitetet i Oslo er redaktører av boka.     Description: This study investigates the pictorial world of the medieval Vadstena Abbey church. The interior of the church was filled with altars and images that had the three separated groups of viewers in mind: the 60 nuns, the 25 conventual brothers and the numerous pilgrims coming to visit the shrine of Saint Birgitta. The pilgrims faced a pictorial message where the role of saint Birgitta was emphasized, but still one among all the other saints. The images directed to the nuns and the brothers accentuated the role of the Virgin Mary as the exemplarily follower of Christ. Furthermore, all the church interior was furnished to enhance the position of the nuns, i.e. that this monastic foundation was made primarily for women.

    Description: Kan vi arbeide med metodar i skulen utan å trekkje inn innhald og mål? Kva kan digital teknologi gje av pedagogisk meirverdi? Kan tysk danningsteori framleis vere til hjelp til å forstå undervisning og læring? Denne boka handlar om det som skjer når danningsteori møter utfordringane med digital teknologi i skulen og særleg med bruken av mobile einingar (m-læring) i lærarutdanninga. Undervisningstema som er drøfta, er filosofi og etikk, engelsk litteratur og kunst og handverk. Sentrale perspektiv er henta frå den tyske teoretikaren Wolfgang Klafki (1927–2016). Klafkis kategoriale danningsteori blir kritisk drøfta i lys av dagens digitale utfordringar, og mottakinga av teorien hans i norsk pedagogikk og didaktikk blir òg vurdert. Forfattarane argumenterer for at Klafki framleis er aktuell. Eit sentralt poeng for Klafki var at danning er tosidig; ho har alltid både ei formal og ei materiell side. Vi kan ikkje «lære å lære» utan å lære noko. Han peika også på at det konkrete emnet har ei generell side, ein kategori, av større eller mindre danningsverdi. For å kunne velje læringsstoff og metode, må læraren og læreplanmakaren må ha ein fagleg idé om kva dette kan vere.

    Description: This anthology presents research projects that examine the intersection between music, technology and education from a variety of perspectives. The contributors are from a range of educational programs within traditional pre-, primary and lower secondary school education, as well as music performance and technology educational programs. Data for the studies stems from primary and lower secondary school, as well as informal learning environments, in addition to the contributors’ respective education programs. The research projects examine a wide range of topics such as gamification of ukulele and song teaching, composition with iPads in the classroom, live looping as an approach to ensemble conducting, authentic music technology learning spaces, music-making in the “laptop-era”, sound, the notion of net-based presence, and challenges in higher electronic music education. As this anthology is the first publication in the MusPed:Research series, it also contains an introductory chapter about the series and the research network Musikkpedagogikk i utdanning (MiU). This anthology makes a distinct contribution to the research field of music technology in education and questions educational practices in the school and higher educational levels, the goals and content of music education, and our understanding of music and music creation in itself.
    Description: I denne antologien presenteres forskingsprosjekter som hvert på sin måte undersøker møtet mellom musikk, teknologi og utdanning. Forfatterne i antologien kommer fra ulike utdanningsprogrammer, der både tradisjonelle barnehagelærer- og grunnskolelærerutdanninger så vel som faglærer-, utøvende musikk- og musikkteknologiutdanninger er representert. Prosjektene henter datamateriale fra de respektive utdanningene, men også fra musikkfaget i grunnskolen samt fra mer uformelle læringsarenaer. Forskningsarbeidene i antologien undersøker blant annet spillifisering av ukulele- og sangundervisning, komposisjon med iPad i klasserommet, live looping i ensembleledelse, autentiske musikkteknologiske læringsrom, musikkskaping i «laptop-æraen», sound, opplevelsen av nettbasert nærvær og utfordringer i høyere musikkteknologisk utdanning. Som første utgivelse i skriftserien MusPed:Research inneholder antologien også et eget introduksjonskapittel som omhandler skriftserien og forskningsnettverket Musikkpedagogikk i utdanning (MiU). Antologien stiller spørsmål ved etablert didaktisk praksis i musikkfaget i grunnskole og høyere utdanning, ved musikkutdanningens mål og innhold samt ved selve forståelsen av musikk og musikkskaping som sådan, og er et bidrag til voksende skandinaviske og internasjonale forskningsfelt om musikkteknologi i utdanningskontekster.
