    Description: Religions of foreign origin have shaped Chinese cultural history much stronger than generally assumed and continue to have impact on Chinese society in varying regional degrees. The essays collected in the present volume put a special emphasis on these “foreign” and less familiar aspects of Chinese religion. Apart from an introductory article on Daoism (the prototypical autochthonous religion of China), the volume reflects China’s encounter with religions of the so-called Western Regions, starting from the adoption of Indian Buddhism to early settlements of religious minorities from the Near East (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism) and the early modern debates between Confucians and Christian missionaries. Contemporary religious minorities, their specific social problems, and their regional diversities are discussed in the cases of Abrahamitic traditions in China.

    Description: This study essentially provides the edition and annotated translation of a historical inscription in the assembly hall of Dgung ’phur Monastery in Spu rang (Mnga’ ris, Western Tibet). The inscription deals with religious and political events in the history of Western Tibet up to the beginning of the 17th century. The introductory part of the study includes a description of the inscription’s general characteristics, a summary of its contents, an enquiry into its date and a discussion of the magistrate Mgon po skyabs, whom the inscription identifies as the “founder” of Dgung ’phur.
    Description: Die vorliegende Studie bietet im Wesentlichen die Edition und annotierte Übersetzung einer historischen Inschrift in der Versammlungshalle des Klosters Dgung ’phur in Spu rang (Mnga’ ris, Westtibet). Die Inschrift behandelt religiöse und politische Ereignisse in der Geschichte Westtibets bis zum Anfang des 17. Jahrhunderts.     The Ontological Nature of Part-Whole Oscillations: An Interdisciplinary Determination (2021)

    Description: The nature of structures comprising part-whole relations belongs to the oldest, most fundamental and still discussed questions of philosophical ontology. Unlike many former approaches, which either give priority to the parts or to the whole of such structures, the present project is an ontological investigation that suggests an alternative to a hierarchical conception of parts and whole with a one-sided dependence relationship. In considering the dynamic ‘in-between’ or interplay of parts and whole, I develop and determine an ontological category called ‘part-whole oscillations’ (pwo).
    Description: Die Beschaffenheit von Strukturen mit Verhältnissen zwischen Ganzen und Teilen gehört zu den ältesten, grundlegendsten und immer noch besprochenen Fragen der philosophischen Ontologie. Im Gegensatz zu vielen früheren Ansätzen, welche entweder die Teile oder das Ganze solcher Strukturen priorisieren, stellt das vorliegende Projekt eine ontologische Untersuchung dar, die eine Alternative zu einem hierarchischen Verständnis von Teilen und Ganzen mit einseitigem Abhängigkeitsverhältnis anbietet. Unter Berücksichtigung des dynamischen ‘Dazwischen’ beziehungsweise Wechselspiels von Teilen und Ganzen, entwickle und bestimme ich eine ontologische Kategorie namens ‘Teil-Ganze-Oszillationen’ (kurz pwo: part-whole oscillations).

    Description: Tell city of Abu al-Kharaz is situated in the central Transjordanian Jordan Valley and excavated by the author from 1989 to 2012. The town flourished in the Early Bronze Age, and after an occupational lacuna of more than thousand years the site was re-occupied in the second half of the Middle Bronze Age and remained permanently occupied until the end of the Iron Age. The new volume is No. III in a series of three (The Early Bronze Age Vol. I, published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences Press in 2008, and the Middle and Late Bronze Ages Vol. II, in 2006).
    Description: Tell Abu al-Kharaz, ein Siedlungshügel im mittleren Jordantal, wurde zwischen 1989 und 2012 unter der Leitung des Autors erforscht. Die Stadt erlebte ihre Blütezeit in der Frühbronzezeit und – nach einer längeren Besiedlungslücke – in der späten Mittelbronze- und der Spätbronzezeit. Als letzter Band in einer Serie von drei Bänden über Tell Abu al-Kharaz (Band I: Frühbronzezeit, 2008; Band II: Mittel- und Spätbronzezeit, 2006) ist das vorliegende Buch der erste abgeschlossene Bericht über eine eisenzeitliche Siedlung im Jordantal.

    Description: The Carnuntum canabae legionis holds a special place in the category of the civilian suburbs of Roman fortresses. An overall plan of the canabae now exists, thanks to the intensification of aerial-archaeological evaluations in recent years in the area of present-day villages of Petronell and Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (Lower Austria, A); its richness in detail makes it unique. The hope of obtaining additional evidence regarding the expansion and chronology of the settlement - as well as the use of municipal zones (such as residential, economic and funerary areas, and open spaces) - was linked to the idea of performing a large-scale surface survey.
    Description: Die Carnuntiner canabae legionis nehmen unter den römischen Lagervorstädten eine Sonderstellung ein. Dank der in den letzten Jahren intensivierten luftbildarchäologischen Auswertung auf dem Gebiet der heutigen Gemeinden von Petronell und Bad Deutsch-Altenburg (Niederösterreich, A) liegt mittlerweile ein canabae-Gesamtplan vor, der hinsichtlich seines Detailreichtums wohl als singulär unter den römischen Lagervorstädten einzustufen ist. Mit einem großflächig konzipierten Oberflächensurvey war die Hoffnung verknüpft, ergänzende Indizien für die Siedlungsausdehnung, für die Siedlungschronologie und für die Nutzung von Siedlungszonen (Wohnbebauung, Wirtschaftsbereiche, Gräberfelder, Freiflächen) zu erhalten.
