    Beschreibung: Eleonora Ramirez de Montalvo is one of the most important historical figures of woman’s assistance and education during the seventeenth century. She is the founder of two lay congregations: the Minime Ancille of the Divine Incarnation (1647) and the Minime Ancille of the Holy Trinity (1650). This volume lists and describes in an analytical way the papers produced and preserved by the second of these, also known Montalve alla Quiete, which for over two centuries carried out an intense activity and exerted a considerable influence in Tuscany. The study of this archive provides a unique range of information both on the economic and political events, and on the relationships maintained by the Montalve with society growing its prestige and heritage. It also offers the opportunity to undertake countless historical research on facts that concern Florentine territory and the rest of Tuscany.

    Beschreibung: The history of the Cuban school is doubly intertwined with the history of the country’s social and economic evolution since the early days of the 1956 Revolution. Arguably, the escuela media superior has been the most subjected to experiments, reforms, successes, mistakes and difficulties, but it has been recognized as having a distinct degree of quality by international bodies, such as UNESCO. This ‘level’ of the Cuban educational system has assumed a fundamental role over the decades, after having resolved the shortcomings of the previous school system and having been adapted on several occasions to the changes in the socio-economic policies of the communist government. In fact, it trained qualified technicians essential to the economic development of Cuba and created a mass consciousness, whose unifying element resided in the collective commitment and not in that of the individual.

    Beschreibung: The general purpose of military paperwork in the Roman army was to control and to manage the personnel, giving detailed information about compositions of the unit, status and availability of the soldiers for duty tasks, their salaries and expenses. The needs of the service called for documents highly readable that, in their form and content, show a good degree of uniformity over time and space. Although some scholars have discussed the various typologies of documents and have reconstructed the branches of military bureaucracy, until now the topic is still a field open for study. The volume by Ornella Salati aims to address the question of documents’ composition in the Roman army during the first three centuries AD, analysing Latin papyri from Egypt. Particular attention is paid firstly to their layout, visual details (format of columns, blank spaces) and handwriting (capital and/or cursive); secondly their pattern, content and language (specific sentences, formulae) are discussed. Comparative evidence from other military contexts (Vindolanda in northern England, Dura Europos in southern-eastern Syria, Gholaia in north Africa) are also taken into account. Possible connections with time and space, and even with the material support are explored in order to show similarities and differences. Such comprehensive approach consents to obtain a deeper knowledge of the organization of the Roman army and of the system of writing, authentication and archiving its documents.

    Beschreibung: The Royal Institute of Signore Montalve alla Quiete was born between 1885 and 1886, by the union of the two congregations founded by the venerable Eleonora Ramirez de Montalvo: the Montalve di Ripoli and the Montalve alla Quiete. From them inherits the principles and the educational action carried out for over two centuries, bringing them to the threshold of the new millennium. In this analytical inventory are described the papers produced by the new Institute. The core relating to female education is only one of the subjects that this archive can offer: architectural and social transformations, the two world wars, customs and traditions of population are just some examples of the researchs offered and the Tuscan historical frame that the cards draw in a well-defined way.

    Beschreibung: Il volume raccoglie gli Atti del III Seminario ostiense, tavola rotonda internazionale ormai divenuta annuale presso l’École française de Rome, articolata, come nei seminari precedenti, in due sezioni. La prima, tematica, ha come oggetto Ostia e la riva destra del Tevere, e si apre con contributi che vanno dall’età protostorica (Bronzo recente e finale) all’età arcaica. Per il periodo romano, accanto alla presentazione di scavi recenti si segnala la ripresa delle ricerche nella Necropoli di Porto all’Isola Sacra, col riesame di alcune categorie di materiali, determinanti ai fini della cronologia, provenienti dalle esplorazioni sistematiche condotte alla fine degli anni ’80 del secolo scorso. La seconda sezione accoglie contributi di vario genere, alcuni dei quali approfondiscono aspetti del vastissimo, e ancora solo parzialmente esplorato, patrimonio epigrafico ostiense, nonché i risultati di scavi e di sondaggi stratigrafici recenti nel contesto della città, interessanti anche per chiarire meglio l’attitudine e il programma operativo degli archeologi al tempo del Grande Scavo del 1938-42.

    Beschreibung: In this book, the dynamics of a nascent political organization in relation to the question of powers and institutions of the Southern Kingdom during the years of 1943-44 are analyzed. The Southern party of DC, taking advantage of both old and new forms of politics, would soon benefit, in addition to the experience of Luigi Sturzo’s populism, of an emerging political class and of the increased weight of the Church in the material and civil crisis caused by the war. In Naples, one of the foremost political headquarters of the liberated Italy, the Catholic Party faced the difficulty of an unconditional membership carried out by the ecclesiastical hierarchy and large sections of the populace to traditional monarchical authority, while its leading group acted from the inside in the context of the pluralistic political and democracy system going out in Cln.

    Beschreibung: Theodor Mommsen aveva ventisette anni nel 1844, quando giunse la prima volta in Italia, dando inizio alla straordinaria avventura epigrafica che l’avrebbe condotto a pubblicare le Inscriptiones Regni Neapolitani Latinae (1852) e quindi alla progettazione del Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum. Marie-René de La Blanchère (Tours, 17 febbraio 1853 - Parigi, 30 maggio 1896) ne aveva ventisei nel ’79, al momento dell’arrivo presso la neonata École française de Rome con l’obiettivo di indagare le antichità della regione pontina: iniziava allora una contrastata (e per certi versi drammatica) vicenda di vita e di ricerca, il cui principale frutto resta il “saggio di storia locale” su Terracine (1884), preceduto e seguito da importanti contributi sul Latium adiectum e l’Africa romana; nel 1885 l’Autore si sarebbe trasferito in Tunisia, dove divenne protagonista della vasta opera di studio e salvaguardia delle antichità locali, culminata nella fondazione del Museo del Bardo. Questo libro raccoglie gli atti del convegno internazionale Dalle terre pontine all’Africa romana: Marie-René de La Blanchère, archeologo, epigrafista, orientalista (San Felice Circeo, 3-4 giugno 2016), organizzato dall’École francaise de Rome e dal Comune di San Felice Circeo (LT) in sinergia con la Soprintendenza archeologica del Lazio Meridionale, con “Sapienza” Università di Roma e l’Università della Tuscia di Viterbo. Nel ripercorrere le tappe della carriera scientifica di La Blanchère, il volume – arricchito dalla prima bibliografia sistematica degli scritti dell’Autore – affronta alcuni momenti chiave della politica culturale della Francia di fine Ottocento, sullo sfondo della virtuosa competizione tra le istituzioni archeologiche europee in Italia, soffermandosi in particolare sulle tappe della ‘scoperta’ delle antichità del Lazio meridionale, negli anni in cui si compiva la titanica impresa dei volumi IX e X del CIL (1883).

    Beschreibung: Le borgate nate in epoca fascista rappresentano una pagina fondamentale della storia di Roma contemporanea. Additate come i luoghi più malfamati della città, specchio dei suoi contrasti socio-economici e urbanistici, in esse può riassumersi il modo disordinato in cui la capitale è cresciuta e si è sviluppata. Avamposti dell’espansione edilizia del secondo dopoguerra, le borgate hanno costituito il luogo d’approdo per migliaia di famiglie dalle molteplici provenienze. Argomento fino a oggi poco dissodato, il processo di popolamento della periferia romana è affrontato in questo libro per mezzo di nuove fonti archivistiche, con cui è stato possibile verificare ipotesi di studio di recente acquisizione. Sullo sfondo, la storia del più importante Istituto di case popolari italiano svoltasi durante il ventennio, un periodo nel quale l’ente, fiancheggiatore delle politiche urbanistiche e abitative del fascismo per la capitale e, seppur a fasi alterne, organo edilizio del Governatorato, fu impegnato nella costruzione di intere parti di città e in quella di un vasto esperimento pedagogico di educazione fascista nei suoi caseggiati, contribuendo anch’esso all’instaurazione di un sistema dalle caratteristiche totalitarie.
